What is Tool Belt?

Tool Belt is a small utility mod, and its one item is Tool Belt. This pack ships Tool Belt 2.2.6, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the modlist.[1]

Where does it fit in progression? The only hint in the pack files is a quest, a quest in "?", in the "tips_and_tricks" chapter. Its task is to have the Tool Belt. Because it sits in a tips chapter, the pack treats it as a handy extra, not a gate to a major progression step.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe how the Tool Belt works (how many tools it holds, how you switch tools, or how you obtain it). Its crafting recipe and config options also aren't confirmed here, so check in-game before relying on any details. I also can't confirm a place for it on the ATM Star path.

How do you get started with Tool Belt?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Getting started with Tool Belt in this pack is a short list: craft the Tool Belt, then the Belt Pouch. The pack has changed the crafting recipe for both items, so use the recipes shown below.[3]

Step 1: Craft the Tool Belt

Start with the Tool Belt. This is the pack's own version of the recipe, not the mod's default.[3]

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default.

The Tool Belt is also the task of a quest in the tips_and_tricks chapter of the quest book: a quest in "?".[4]

Step 2: Craft the Belt Pouch

Next is the Belt Pouch. The pack changed this recipe too, and it is a separate recipe from the belt's.[3]

The pack also changed this recipe from the mod's default.

Checking your belt

The mod has a tooltip line that reads "Upgrades" followed by the upgrades and a slot count, so check the tooltip to see what your belt currently has.[5]

How does Tool Belt work?

4 parts

Tool Belt is a small mod, and the sources only cover a few of its systems: the two craftable items, the radial menu you use to swap tools, and some pack config options. It has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids that I can confirm. Everything below sticks to what the pack files show.[5][6][7][8]

The belt and the pouch

The mod adds two items, the Tool Belt and the Belt Pouch. The belt's tooltip lists its upgrades and how many slots it has. How upgrades work and how many slots each level gives are not covered by the sources, so I won't guess at them.[5][8]

The pack changed both crafting recipes, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Here are the exact in-pack recipes.[8]

Belt slot and recipe handling

general.customBeltSlotMode is set to ON in this pack. The config describes AUTO as disabling the belt slot when Curios is present, and OFF as disabling it permanently, so ON is the setting that avoids both.[7]

The mod can switch to sewing recipes if the Sewing Kit mod is installed. general.enableSewingKitSupport is true here, and both general.enableGridCraftingRecipes and general.anvilUpgrading are on AUTO. With AUTO and Sewing Kit present, the belt and pouch crafting recipes are disabled and sewing recipes are used instead. Anvil upgrading also follows the sewing mechanics in that case. Setting anvil upgrading to OFF would disable it entirely.[7]

Unverified The sources don't say whether Sewing Kit is actually installed in this pack, so it is unconfirmed whether the sewing path or the normal crafting recipes apply. The recipes shown above are the ones listed in the pack's recipe dump.

The radial menu

You swap tools through a radial menu. The pack leaves all of its client options off, which gives the following behavior.[6]

Tip: If you'd rather swap quickly, set the release-to-swap option to true in the client config. Releasing R will then activate the swap without a click.[6]

Display options

display.beltItemScale controls the size of items drawn on the belt. It is 0.5 in the pack, the same as the mod default, and accepts values from 0.1 to 2.0. display.showBeltOnPlayers is true, so belts and their tools are drawn on players. Setting it to false stops that.[6]

How do you progress through Tool Belt?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

The sources for this pack show the Tool Belt and the Belt Pouch for Tool Belt, and the pack has changed the crafting recipe for both of them. No further tiers are shown.[3]

The quest

The quest tied to this mod is a quest in "?" in the tips_and_tricks chapter. It has no title, and its task is the Tool Belt.[4]

Crafting the belt

The pack uses its own shaped recipe for the belt, so don't assume the mod's default recipe applies. Here is the exact in-pack version:[3]

Crafting the pouch

The Belt Pouch also has a shaped recipe changed by the pack. It is separate from the belt's recipe, so check the one below before you start gathering materials.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Tool Belt?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Tool Belt only shows up in one place in the quest book: the "tips_and_tricks" chapter. There's a single quest that involves it, so there's no long questline to follow here.[4]

Since this is the only quest for the mod, there's no order to worry about. You can pick it up whenever you get around to making a belt.[4]

Unverified The quest's rewards, whether it needs other quests finished first, and how the Tool Belt is crafted in this pack are not confirmed by the available quest data.

Which Tool Belt config options matter?

2 parts

Tool Belt has two config files, a client one for how things look and how the radial menu behaves, and a common one for how the belt slot and recipes work. Here is what this pack sets in each.[6][7]

Radial menu and display (client)

  • display.beltItemScale is 0.5 in this pack, which matches the mod default. It accepts values from 0.1 to 2.0 and controls the scale of items on the belt.[6]
  • display.showBeltOnPlayers is true, so belts and tools are drawn on players. Set it to false if you don't want them drawn.[6]
  • menu.releaseToSwap is false. That means releasing the menu key (R) does not activate the swap, and you need to click instead. Set it to true if you'd rather swap on release.[6]
  • menu.displayEmptySlots is false, so the radial menu doesn't always show every slot when some are empty. If you turn it on, it shows all slots and lets you choose which empty slot to insert into.[6]
  • menu.clipMouseToCircle is false. Turning it on makes the menu try to keep your mouse inside the outer circle.[6]
  • menu.allowClickOutsideBounds is false. Turning it on lets you click outside the outer circle to activate items.[6]

Belt slot and recipes (common)

  • general.customBeltSlotMode is set to ON in this pack. The other options are OFF, which disables the belt slot permanently, and AUTO, which disables it if Curios is present.[7]
  • general.enableGridCraftingRecipes is AUTO. With AUTO, the belt and pouch crafting recipes are disabled if the Sewing Kit mod is present, and sewing recipes are used instead.[7]
  • general.anvilUpgrading is AUTO. With AUTO, the crafting and upgrade recipes use the Sewing mechanics if the Sewing Kit mod is present. OFF disables anvil upgrading regardless.[7]
  • general.enableSewingKitSupport is true. Setting it to false would turn off sewing recipe support even if the Sewing Kit mod is installed.[7]

Unverified The config files here only show the pack's values, and only the belt item scale lists a mod default. I can't confirm which of the other options the pack changed. I also can't confirm whether Curios or the Sewing Kit mod is installed, so I can't say how the AUTO settings resolve in practice.
