What is Tool Belt?
Tool Belt is a small mod that adds a single item to the pack: the Tool Belt. This pack ships Tool Belt version 2.2.3, and the mod has been included since All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the pack.[1][2]
In the pack's questbook, the Tool Belt appears in the "tips_and_tricks" chapter. The quest a quest in "?" has the belt as its task, so the pack treats it as a handy tip rather than a progression gate.[2]
Unverified The sources I was given do not describe what the belt does in detail, how it is crafted in this pack, or any config options. I am leaving those out rather than guessing, so check the in-game item and quest for specifics.
Unverified Where Tool Belt sits in the pack's progression is not confirmed by the sources beyond its quest chapter placement.
How do you get started with Tool Belt?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Getting started with Tool Belt in this pack is a short list: craft the Tool Belt, then the Belt Pouch. The pack has changed the crafting recipe for both items, so use the recipes shown below.[3]
Step 1: Craft the Tool Belt
Start with the Tool Belt. This is the pack's own version of the recipe, not the mod's default.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | ||
| any iron ingot |
Recipe id: toolbelt:belt
The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default.
The Tool Belt is also the task of a quest in the tips_and_tricks chapter of the quest book: a quest in "?".[4]
Step 2: Craft the Belt Pouch
Next is the Belt Pouch. The pack changed this recipe too, and it is a separate recipe from the belt's.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any gold ingot | ||
| Empty slot | ||
Recipe id: toolbelt:pouch
The pack also changed this recipe from the mod's default.
Checking your belt
The mod has a tooltip line that reads "Upgrades" followed by the upgrades and a slot count, so check the tooltip to see what your belt currently has.[5]
How does Tool Belt work?
5 parts
Tool Belt is a small mod, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids to worry about. The mechanics are about the Tool Belt, the Belt Pouch, and how you pull tools out of them. Here is everything the pack's files confirm.[6][7][8][9]
Crafting the belt and pouch
The pack changed the recipes for both items. Here are the exact in-pack versions.[9]
Some config options can swap these recipes for sewing recipes. general.enableGridCraftingRecipes is set to AUTO. In AUTO, the belt and pouch crafting recipes are disabled if the Sewing Kit mod is present, and sewing recipes are used instead. general.enableSewingKitSupport is true, so sewing support is switched on. general.anvilUpgrading is also AUTO, which means the crafting and upgrade recipes use the Sewing mechanics when the Sewing Kit mod is present.[7]
Unverified The sources do not say whether the Sewing Kit mod is installed in this pack. The recipes above are the ones the pack dump lists, so check in-game if you are unsure which route applies to you.
The belt slot
general.customBeltSlotMode is set to ON in this pack. If it were AUTO, the belt slot would be disabled whenever Curios is present, and OFF disables the belt slot permanently.[7]
Using the radial menu
You swap tools through a radial menu. By default you open it with the R key and then click to activate the swap. menu.releaseToSwap is false in this pack, so releasing the key does not swap. If you turn it on, releasing the key activates the swap instead.[6]
- menu.displayEmptySlots is false. When true, the menu always shows every slot, even empty ones, and lets you choose which empty slot to insert into.[6]
- menu.clipMouseToCircle is false. When true, the menu tries to keep your mouse inside the outer circle.[6]
- menu.allowClickOutsideBounds is false. When true, you can click outside the outer circle to activate items.[6]
What goes in the belt
Item restrictions are controlled by general.blacklist, which disallows items from the belt, and general.whitelist, which force-allows them. The whitelist takes precedence over the blacklist. Both lists are empty in this pack, so the pack adds no extra restrictions of its own.[8]
Belt tooltips show a line in the form "Upgrades: %s (%s slots)", so you can see a belt's upgrades and slot count by hovering over it.[5]
Display settings
display.beltItemScale is 0.5 and accepts values from 0.1 to 2.0. It controls the size of the items drawn on the belt. display.showBeltOnPlayers is true, so belts and tools are drawn on players. Set it to false if you want them hidden.[6]
Unverified The sources do not explain how many slots a belt or pouch has, how upgrades add slots, or exactly how the pouch interacts with the belt, so none of that is covered here.
How do you progress through Tool Belt?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
The sources for this pack show the Tool Belt and the Belt Pouch for Tool Belt, and the pack has changed the crafting recipe for both of them. No further tiers are shown.[3]
The quest
The quest tied to this mod is a quest in "?" in the tips_and_tricks chapter. It has no title, and its task is the Tool Belt.[4]
Crafting the belt
The pack uses its own shaped recipe for the belt, so don't assume the mod's default recipe applies. Here is the exact in-pack version:[3]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | ||
| any iron ingot |
Recipe id: toolbelt:belt
This recipe is changed by the pack.
Crafting the pouch
The Belt Pouch also has a shaped recipe changed by the pack. It is separate from the belt's recipe, so check the one below before you start gathering materials.[3]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Tool Belt?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Tool Belt only shows up in one place in the quest book: the "tips_and_tricks" chapter. There's a single quest that involves it, so there's no long questline to follow here.[4]
- a quest in "?" is an untitled quest in the "tips_and_tricks" chapter. Its task is to have a Tool Belt item.[4]
Since this is the only quest for the mod, there's no order to worry about. You can pick it up whenever you get around to making a belt.[4]
Unverified The quest's rewards, whether it needs other quests finished first, and how the Tool Belt is crafted in this pack are not confirmed by the available quest data.
Which Tool Belt config options matter?
3 parts
Tool Belt splits its settings across three files in this pack: a client file for how the belt and radial menu look and feel, a common file for belt slot and recipe behavior, and a server file for what can go on the belt. Here is every option and how the pack sets it.[6][7][8]
Radial menu and display (client)
- display.beltItemScale is set to 0.5. It scales the items drawn on the belt, and the allowed range is 0.1 to 2.0.[6]
- display.showBeltOnPlayers is true, so belts and tools are drawn on players. Set it to false to stop that.[6]
- menu.releaseToSwap is false. You need to click to activate a swap. If you set it to true, releasing the menu key (R) activates the swap instead.[6]
- menu.displayEmptySlots is false, so the radial menu doesn't show empty slots. Setting it to true shows all slots and lets you choose which empty slot to insert into.[6]
- menu.clipMouseToCircle is false, so the menu does not try to keep your mouse inside the outer circle.[6]
- menu.allowClickOutsideBounds is false, so clicking outside the outer circle does not activate items.[6]
Belt slot and recipes (common)
- general.customBeltSlotMode is set to ON (allowed values are OFF, AUTO and ON). With AUTO the belt slot would be disabled if Curios is present, and OFF disables it permanently. The pack uses neither of those.[7]
- general.enableGridCraftingRecipes is AUTO. In AUTO, the belt and pouch crafting recipes are disabled if the Sewing Kit mod is present, and sewing recipes are used instead.[7]
- general.anvilUpgrading is AUTO. In AUTO, the crafting and upgrade recipes use the Sewing mechanics if the Sewing Kit mod is present. OFF would disable anvil upgrading regardless.[7]
- general.enableSewingKitSupport is true. Set it to false and sewing recipe support is never enabled, even if the mod is there.[7]
Allowed items (server)
- general.blacklist is an empty list, so the pack blocks no items from the belt. It lists items that can't be placed in the belt.[8]
- general.whitelist is also empty. It force-allows items and takes precedence over the blacklist if you fill both.[8]
Unverified The sources show the values this pack uses but not the mod's defaults, so I can't confirm which of these options the pack changed. They also don't show whether the Sewing Kit mod is in the pack, so I can't say which crafting path the AUTO settings end up using.
