Starbunclemania guide for All the Mods 10 3.0 to 4.10

What is Starbunclemania?

Starbunclemania is included in this pack at version 1.4.0.1, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack since version 3.0 or earlier, so it's a long-standing member of the mod list.[1]

Beyond that, I can't tell you much with confidence. The sources I have don't describe what the mod does, who it's aimed at, or what its items and mechanics are, so I'm not going to guess and risk sending you down the wrong path.[1]

What is confirmed about its place in progression: the mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, and no quests in this pack involve it. You won't be prompted toward it by the questbook, so you'll find it through your own exploring.[1]

Unverified The mod's gameplay features, its recipes, its config options and how it fits into mid- or late-game progression are unverified. No in-jar guidebook or platform description was available to confirm them.

How do you get started with Starbunclemania?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Starbunclemania is all about giving your Starbuncles new jobs. Most of its items change what a Starbuncle does, such as moving fluids, moving energy, voiding items, placing blocks or mining. In this pack the first thing to get is the Fluid Jar, because the other fluid items build on it.[2]

Step one: make a Fluid Jar

The Fluid Containment Jar comes first. The pack changed its recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

You can also place a Wixie on a Fluid Jar to make the Wixie Mixer. The jar is used in the recipe for the Glyph Pickup Fluid glyph too, shown below.[2][3]

Glyph (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: starbunclemania:glyph_pickup_fluid

The glyph picks up fluids from the world and fills a tank in the hotbar or next to the turret.

Step two: make a Source Condenser

The pack uses the Source Condenser to get Source into a form that Fluid Hatches can handle. The Runic Crucible needs Source, and this pack has no Source Hatches to supply it. Place a Source Jar with some Source next to the condenser and it turns the Source into Liquefied Source. The quest a quest in "?" covers this, and in the Forbidden & Arcanus chapter it comes after Tier 5 Forge.[4]

The pack also has a Create mixing recipe that produces the Source fluid. The pack changed this one too.[3]

Next: make a Starbucket

The Starbucket changes a Starbuncle's job to carrying fluids around. It's made at an Enchanting Apparatus, and the Fluid Jar you already have goes into it.[2][3]

Step four: pick your other Starbuncle jobs

Once fluids work, add the other job items as you need them. These have recipes the pack changed:[3]

  • StarbAttery makes a Starbuncle transport FE energy.[2][3]
  • StarBin makes a Starbuncle void the items it picks up and the items from linked chests.[2][3]
  • Starbuilder makes a Starbuncle place blocks in specified spots.[2][3]
  • Starminer makes a Starbuncle mine blocks in specified spots. You can give it a tool, and it defaults to an iron pick.[2][3]

Tip: The Starbucket, StarbAttery, StarBin, Starbuilder and Starminer can all be used as a plain cosmetic by sneaking while using them. This doesn't change the Starbuncle's current behavior.[2]

How does Starbunclemania work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Starbunclemania is built around one idea: you give a familiar a piece of headwear, and that changes what it does. What the sources describe are familiar jobs, Wixie workstations, and some fluid and Source items, not big multiblocks or standalone machines. Here is how each part works in this pack.[2]

Tip: Every job item can also be used as a plain cosmetic. Sneak while using it and the familiar keeps its current behavior.[2]

Starbuncle job items

Each of these changes a starbuncle's job. Here is what the tooltips say about them.[2]

  • Starbucket makes the starbuncle transport fluids around.[2]
  • StarbAttery makes it transport FE energy around.[2]
  • Starballoon makes it transport Mekanism chemical around. It can be dyed, and it supports Starbuncle, Drygmy and Wixie familiars.[2]
  • Starbuilder makes it place blocks in specified spots.[2][3]
  • Starminer makes it mine blocks in specified spots. You can give it a tool to use, and it defaults to an iron pick.[2][3]
  • StarBin makes it void the items it picks up, and items from linked chests.[2][3]
  • Square Robin Mask tweaks the starbuncle's item transport to round-robin items between inventories, and it also stops pickup.[2][3]

The pack changed the crafting recipes for the StarbAttery, the StarBin, the Starbuilder and the Starminer, so don't trust the mod's default recipes for those. The recipes below are the in-pack ones.[3]

Direction scrolls and fluid scrolls

The Wyrm Degree is a cosmetic for Starbuncles and Bookwyrm familiars. It also allows item starbuncles to read Direction Scrolls.[2]

Recipe id: starbunclemania:direction_scroll

There are also Fluid Scroll: Allow and Fluid Scroll: Deny. Each has a recipe that clears the scroll back to blank, and the pack does not change those recipes. The sources don't explain how the scrolls are applied, so I'm leaving out the details.[3]

Wixie workstations

Using a Wixie Charm on certain blocks changes which recipes your Wixie works with. These are the options the tooltips describe.[2]

  • Furnace: the Wixie uses smelting and smoking recipes.[2]
  • Stonecutter: the Wixie uses stonecutter recipes.[2]
  • Cutting Board: the Wixie uses cutting board recipes.[2]
  • Cooking Pot: the Wixie uses cooking pot recipes.[2]
  • Crucible: the Wixie uses Eidolon's crucible recipes.[2]
  • Fluid Containment Jar: the Wixie uses the milk and water in the side tanks for crafting recipes instead of buckets. The advancement text calls this the Wixie Mixer.[2]

The Fluid Jar recipe was changed by the pack, so check the in-pack version here.[3]

Source and fluid handling

The Source Condenser and the Fluid Sourcelink each have their own recipe. The Source Condenser is made from a Source Relay and a Fluid Jar. The sources don't describe exactly how either one behaves, so I'm not going to guess.[3]

Fluid spell glyphs

The mod adds fluid glyphs for your spells. Glyph Pickup Fluid picks up fluids from the world and fills a tank in your hotbar or next to the turret. Glyph Place Fluid places fluid in the world, draining from a tank in your hotbar or next to the turret.[2][3]

Both glyphs accept several augments. AOE increases the radius of targeted blocks, Pierce increases the depth, and Randomize adds a chance to not target a block. Sensitive on the pickup glyph targets the block hit directly instead of the relative position. On the place glyph, it places the fluid inside the block hit instead of relative to it.[2]

How do you progress through Starbunclemania?

4 parts

Starbunclemania doesn't give you a clean tier ladder in this pack. What the recipes do show is a natural order, so this section groups the mod by what each item needs: crafting-table gear first, then the fluid chain, then Ars Nouveau enchanting apparatus crafts, with cosmetics as an optional extra.[5]

Unverified The sources here show no quests for this mod and no place for it on the ATM Star path, so I can't give you an official quest order. The order below comes only from the recipes.

Starbuncle gear from the crafting table

Start with the utility items. The pack changed the recipes for all of these, so don't rely on older guides or the mod's own defaults: StarBin, Starminer, Starbuilder and StarbAttery.[5]

How does Starbunclemania work with other mods?

5 parts

In this pack, Starbunclemania connects to other mods through one item: starbunclemania:source_fluid (Liquefied Source). The pack adds a lot of recipes that use it as an ingredient, and they all run in the runic enchanter and runic crucible machine types under the Modern Industrialization recipe namespace.[5]

Enchanted books

Most of the connecting recipes are runic enchanter recipes that make a Enchanted Book. Each one takes an enchanting base (Inferium Enchanting Base, Prudentium Enchanting Base, Tertium Enchanting Base, Imperium Enchanting Base or Supremium Enchanting Base), plus Lapis Lazuli, one extra item, Liquefied Source and anything in the experience tag.[5]

The extra item picks the result. The recipes show vanilla items like Feather, Blaze Rod, Piston and Nautilus Shell. A few use other mods' items instead: Dark Steel Ingot appears in imperium and tertium recipes, and Experience Rod appears in a supremium one.[5]

Mystical Agriculture

The inferium enchanting base is itself made in the runic enchanter. It uses Writable Book, Inferium Essence, Prosperity Shard, Liquefied Source and experience.[5]

What changed in Starbunclemania between versions?

Starbunclemania has a short history in All the Mods 10. It arrived in version 3.0 of the pack, and it has had one update since.[6][7]

  • All the Mods 10 3.0: Starbunclemania was added at version 1.4.0.0.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 4.0: Starbunclemania was updated from 1.4.0.0 to 1.4.0.1.[7]

All the Mods 10 4.10 still ships Starbunclemania 1.4.0.1, using the file starbunclemania-1.21.1-1.4.0.1.jar. So if you're on 4.10, you have the same version the pack moved to in 4.0.[1]

Unverified What actually changed between Starbunclemania 1.4.0.0 and 1.4.0.1 is unverified. The pack changelogs only record the version bump, and there are no stored changelogs for the shipped jars. Whether the pack changed any recipes or values for this mod is also unconfirmed.
