What is Jade 🔍?
2 parts
Jade is the little information HUD that pops up when you look at something. Point your crosshair at a block or entity and Jade tells you what it is. If you've played with Hwyla or Waila before, it's the same idea brought to modern Minecraft, with a redesigned API, more vanilla addons, more configuration options and better accessibility.[1]
This pack includes Jade version 15.9.2 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been in the pack since version 1.3 or earlier.[2]
Jade is for everyone playing the pack. You don't craft it and you don't progress through it. It's a quality-of-life tool that sits on your screen the whole time and saves you from guessing what a block is or opening it just to check what's inside.[1]
Client and server features
Jade can run on the client only, but many of its features need Jade installed on the server too. Examples include item storage contents, a brewing stand's fuel amount and the bees inside a beehive.[1]
Default keys
- Keypad 0 opens the configuration screen.[1]
- Keypad 1 toggles the overlay on and off.[1]
- Keypad 2 toggles the liquid display.[1]
- Keypad 3 shows recipes and Keypad 4 shows uses for what you're looking at. Both require JEI.[1]
- Keypad 5 narrates your target.[1]
Unverified The sources don't confirm whether the Jade Addons integration mod is included in this pack, or whether this pack changes any of Jade's default keys or settings.
How do you get started with Jade 🔍?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Jade is the info HUD in this pack. It shows information about whatever you're looking at, so it's the first thing to learn before you start exploring all the other mods. Once you know what a block or mob is, you can decide what to do with it.[1]
Unverified No in-pack recipe or quest involving Jade could be confirmed, so there is nothing to craft or complete to get started with it.
Learn the default keys
These are Jade's default keybinds. If the tooltip doesn't react the way you expect, check your Controls screen, because the pack may have rebound them and I can't confirm that from my sources.[1]
- Keypad 0 opens the configuration screen. Start here.[1]
- Keypad 1 toggles the overlay on and off.[1]
- Keypad 2 toggles the liquid display.[1]
- Keypad 3 shows recipes and Keypad 4 shows uses, both requiring JEI.[1]
- Keypad 5 narrates your target.[1]
First steps in the config screen
- Open the configuration screen with its key and look for the display mode setting. It controls how the tooltip behaves and how the show-details key works.[1][3]
- Pick a mode. Hold-key mode needs you to hold the overlay key. Toggle mode turns the overlay on and off each time you press the key. Lite mode shows further information while you hold the details key.[3]
- Turn on the option that shows which mod an item comes from. In a big pack this saves a lot of guessing.[3]
- Optionally enable the setting that shows the target's coordinates, or the one that shows your distance to it.[3]
If the tooltip gets in your way, there are options to hide it on most GUI screens, on the debug screen and on the player list. You can also turn the tooltip off completely with the global switch. If you prefer to hear information, Jade has a narrator and accessibility features for showing more detail.[3]
How does Jade 🔍 work?
6 parts
Jade doesn't add machines, multiblocks or pipes of its own. It's an information HUD, a modern take on Hwyla/Waila, that shows you information about whatever you're looking at. Its core mechanics are all about how that overlay behaves, what it can read from blocks and entities, and how much control you get over it.[1][4]
The overlay and its display modes
The tooltip has a global on/off switch. On top of that, a display mode setting controls how the overlay behaves normally and how the Show Details key works. There are three modes to pick from.[4]
- Hold key mode: the overlay only appears while you hold the Show Overlay key.[4]
- Lite mode: the overlay shows its basic info, and you hold Show Details to see more.[4]
- Toggle mode: pressing Show Overlay turns the tooltip on and off. When you hide it, a small popup reminds you to press the key again to bring it back.[4]
You can also have the overlay animate when it appears and disappears, and morph smoothly when its size changes. It can hide itself automatically while the debug screen, the player list or most GUIs are open. If your main hand is set to left, it can mirror its position.[4]
Reading storage, energy and fluids
This is where Jade gets really useful around a modded base. When you look at a container, the overlay can list the items inside it. Separate settings control how many items appear normally and how many appear while you hold Show Details. Another setting caps how many items get their full names shown instead of just icons.[4]
Energy and fluid storage have their own detailed options. With these turned on, energy or fluid info only shows while you press Show Details, which keeps the overlay compact until you want the numbers.[4]
Fluids in the world work a little differently. A key toggles whether Jade shows liquids at all. A fallback option makes Jade only show a fluid when there's nothing else to target, so water or lava won't get in the way of the block you actually care about.[1][4]
Client side versus server side
Jade can run on the client alone, but many of its features need Jade on the server as well. Examples include item storage contents, a brewing stand's fuel amount and the bees inside a beehive. If you're on a server without Jade and those details are missing, that's why.[1]
Unverified Whether this pack's server setup includes Jade on the server side isn't confirmed by the available sources.
For extra integration with other mods, Jade's author points players to a separate Jade Addons mod.[1]
Unverified Whether Jade Addons is included in this pack isn't confirmed by the available sources.
Extra info you can switch on
Jade's plugins can add a lot of small but handy details to the overlay. Each one can be toggled in the plugin settings.[4]
- Coordinates of your target, plus relative coordinates while you hold Ctrl.[4]
- The distance between you and your target, and which face of the block you're touching.[4]
- Registry names, including special IDs like BlockEntity and Fluid. This can follow the game's advanced tooltips option.[4]
- Harvest tool information, which can optionally show in creative or spectator mode too.[4]
- The time until an entity's next drop, such as an egg or an armadillo scute.[4]
- A note block's note and instrument, a block's enchantment power, and whether something like a sign is waxed.[4]
- A warning for special TNT that ignites when hit.[4]
- The name of the mod an item comes from, shown on its tooltip.[4]
A reach distance setting increases how far away a target can be and still be picked up. A perspective setting lets you choose between an eye-based mode, which is more accurate while you're moving, and a camera-based mode, which works better with mods that change how the camera behaves.[4]
Accessibility and narration
Jade has an accessibility plugin that displays and narrates more details, with finer control in the plugin settings. A key narrates your current target. When you open the narrator, a popup confirms it's on and tells you to press the key again to turn it off.[1][4]
Default keys
- Keypad 0 opens the configuration screen.[1]
- Keypad 1 toggles the overlay.[1]
- Keypad 2 toggles liquid display.[1]
- Keypad 3 shows recipes and Keypad 4 shows uses for what you're looking at. Both require JEI.[1]
- Keypad 5 narrates your target.[1]
Unverified These are Jade's default keybinds. The sources don't confirm whether this pack changes them, and they don't list a default key for Show Details.
Which Jade 🔍 config options matter?
1 part
Jade keeps almost all of its settings in an in-game screen rather than a config file you edit by hand, so you tune it while you play. Press Keypad 0 to open the configuration screen and browse the options there.[1]
Jade is highly configurable compared to Hwyla, which is one of its headline differences, so it is worth a minute in that screen to turn off the readouts you never look at and keep the ones you do.[1]
Default keys worth knowing
- Keypad 0 opens the configuration screen.[1]
- Keypad 1 toggles the overlay on and off.[1]
- Keypad 2 toggles the liquid display, so you can see fluids you are looking at.[1]
- Keypad 3 shows recipes for the thing you are looking at, and Keypad 4 shows its uses. Both need JEI installed.[1]
- Keypad 5 narrates the target for accessibility.[1]
Unverified This pack does not ship a config file for Jade in the sources available here, so there is nothing to confirm about values the pack changed from the mod defaults. Treat the in-game configuration screen as the place where your settings live, and assume defaults until you change them yourself.
