What is Corail Tombstone?
2 parts
Corail Tombstone is the pack's death-safety net: when you die, your inventory goes into a decorative grave instead of scattering across the floor, so a lava dive or a surprise mob stack is an inconvenience rather than a run-ender. This pack ships version 9.4.8 for NeoForge 1.21.1.[1][2]
It does a lot more than hold your stuff, though. The mod wraps a medieval fantasy layer around death itself: souls that haunt your graves, prayers, rituals, soul-bound magic, forgotten scrolls with riddles hidden inside, tameable undead companions and a flying carpet. It has been in development since 2016 and is built to work in singleplayer and on dedicated servers alike, with broad compatibility with other mods.[1]
Who it's for
If you mostly want the insurance policy, you can ignore everything else and just walk back to your grave. If you like side progression, there's a whole knowledge system to dig into: you earn knowledge points by enchanting with a grave's soul, freeing a soul from a receptacle, praying near a decorative grave with the Ankh of Prayer, or completing the mod's advancements. Those points buy perks in the Knowledge of Death screen, which also contains a cross-linked compendium explaining the mod's features.[1]
Where it fits
Tombstone runs alongside your normal progression rather than gating it. You get the grave protection from your very first death, and the knowledge, perk and exploration content is there whenever you feel like chasing it, abandoned graves on the Overworld surface and in the ocean are a good early excuse to go looking.[1]
How do you get started with Corail Tombstone?
5 parts
The nice thing about this mod is that you don't have to craft anything before it works. When you die, your inventory is kept safe in a decorative grave. The crafting below is about making that grave your own and unlocking a few extras.[1]
Get Grave Dust
Almost everything here starts with Grave Dust. You get it by killing undead or through the Cat Morning Gift.[1][3]
This pack adds another source. It changes a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe so that it gives Wax and Grave Dust. The recipe dump lists no item inputs for it.[3]
Centrifuge (productivebees)

This centrifuge recipe is changed by the pack.
Make a grave plate
The Grave Plate is how you name your graves. At an anvil, combine a plate with an iron ingot to engrave a name. You can then apply or change that name on your decorative graves, unless a config option has disabled name changes.[1][3]

Craft your marble
Marble is the base for decorative graves, and each colour has its own recipe. Dark Marble is the shortest one to start with, since it only needs two ingredients.[1][3]
White Marble and Carmin Marble use the mod's own recipes. This pack changes the recipes for Blue Marble and Green Marble, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs.[3]

Every marble colour has slab, stairs and wall versions for building. Blue and carmin marble also have stonecutter recipes for their slabs, stairs and walls.[3]
Build a decorative grave
Decorative graves come in several models and colours, and there is no gameplay difference between them, so pick what you like. Each recipe takes one of the marbles plus an ingredient from the decorative grave ingredients tag. Here is one example, the normal model in blue.[1][3]

Try the magic items
After a death, a soul will often come to haunt your grave and stays until it's freed. The config lets you adjust how often this happens.[1]
Next up are the Strange Scroll and the Strange Tablet. Both use Grave Dust in their recipes.[3]

How does Corail Tombstone work?
7 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Tombstone is built around death, not machines. The sources describe no power, fluid or multiblock systems, so this section covers what the mod does: graves, souls, engraving, knowledge, prayers and alignment, plus the pack's config values for them.[1]
Graves and recovering your stuff
When you die, a decorative grave appears and keeps your inventory safe. It's a block that gives off a faint fog at night, and you can harvest it with a pickaxe or a shovel. It comes in several models and colors, and none of them differ in gameplay, so pick whichever you like.[1]
After a while a soul will often come to haunt your grave and stays until you free it. Freeing it enables certain enchantments (via magic scrolls or tablets) or an upgrade to the grave's key.[1]
In this pack, sneaking at a grave activates it, and a grave is allowed to appear in water. Holding the key highlights the grave from far away, and the marker is the wing type. Your items are equipped automatically in every case, both on death respawn and on grave recovery.[4]
- client.activate_grave_by_sneaking is true in the pack.[4]
- client.allow_grave_in_water is true.[4]
- client.auto_equip_rule is set to ALWAYS.[4]
- client.highlight is true and client.marker_type is WING.[4]
The pack also keeps the compatibility options on. Curios slots are auto-equipped, cosmetic armor is kept when you die, and potion effects stay on you after returning from the conquered End. See compatibility.curio_auto_equip, compatibility.keep_cosmetic_armor and compatibility.preserve_effects_on_return_end_conquered.[5]
The mod also has a Soulbound enchantment that preserves the item on death. The Preservation effect keeps your experience and beneficial effects on death.[6]
Building your own decorative graves
Decorative graves are made from a marble block plus an ingredient from a tag. Dark Marble, Blue Marble and Carmin Marble are among the marbles in the recipe dump, and each one has its own set of grave recipes. The marbles themselves are made with Grave Dust.[7]

The mod's project page says you also need an Essence of Undeath. It's unlocked through advancements, and it rarely drops from undead, comes from the Cat Morning Gift, or can be fished in deep water. Grave Dust comes from killing undead or from the Cat Morning Gift.[1]
Engraving
At the anvil, combine a grave plate with an iron ingot to engrave a name onto it. You can then apply or change that name on your decorative graves. A config option can disable name changes.[1]

Grave Guardian
Rarely, a Grave Guardian appears near a grave. It protects the area from hostile creatures and offers trades, which are one way to get Essence of Undeath. The pack leaves it enabled via decorative_grave.allow_grave_gardian.[1][5]
Knowledge of Death and Ankh prayers
You earn knowledge points by using a grave's soul to enchant an item, by freeing a soul from a receptacle, by praying near a decorative grave with the Ankh Of Prayer, or by completing the mod's advancements. The Ankh's default cooldown is 6 in-game hours, and it can be adjusted in the config.[1]
Spend the points on perks in the Knowledge of Death screen. Its keybind is not set by default and sits under misc. The same screen has a Compendium section with information about the mod.[1]

What the Ankh can do depends on your alignment. Among other things it can grant beneficial effects when you pray at decorative graves, or charm certain creatures such as undead into companions.[1]
Alignment points in this pack
Every alignment value I can see in the pack's common config matches the mod default. Good deeds earn points and bad ones cost you.[5]
- Using a Potion of Earthly Garden gives 10 points (alignment.points_earthly_garden).[5]
- Exorcising a zombie villager gives 20 (alignment.points_exorcism_zombie_villager).[5]
- Freeing a soul in a receptacle gives 50 (alignment.points_free_soul_receptacle).[5]
- Killing a raider gives 5 (alignment.points_kill_raider).[5]
- Praying for protection gives 20 (alignment.points_pray_of_protection).[5]
- Killing one of your tamed creatures costs 10 (alignment.points_kill_tamed_creature).[5]
- Killing a villager costs 15 (alignment.points_kill_villager).[5]
- Plundering a player's grave costs 10 (alignment.points_plunder_player_grave).[5]
- Using a tablet of cupidity costs 10 (alignment.points_tablet_of_cupidity).[5]
- Zombifying a villager costs 20 (alignment.points_zombify_villager).[5]
Abandoned graves and in-game config
Lootable abandoned graves generate in 5 colors, and their loot is configurable in config/tombstone/loottables. You can find them with the structure tag #tombstone:abandoned_grave.[1]
The in-game config screen opens with the /tbgui command or a customizable keybind. Commands such as TBShowLastGrave and TBRestoreInventory help you find your grave or restore its contents from a distance.[1]
How do you progress through Corail Tombstone?
5 parts
The recipe dump shows how the mod's items chain together, and almost everything starts from Grave Dust. Here's the crafting path, tier by tier.[3]
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest for this mod, so there is no quest-driven order to follow. Check the pack's quest book if you want to confirm. The tiers below follow the crafting recipes instead.
Getting grave dust
Grave dust is the base material for the mod. The recipe dump shows a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs wax and grave dust, and it takes no item inputs. The pack has changed this recipe.[3]
Centrifuge (productivebees)

Simple grave dust crafts
With grave dust in hand, you can already make these items straight away:[3]
- Bone Needle[3]
- Grave Plate[3]
- Fishing Rod Of Misadventure[3]
- Smoke Ball[3]
- Dust Of Frost[3]
- Dust Of Vanishing[3]
Marble and decorative graves
The marbles are Dark Marble, White Marble, Carmin Marble, Blue Marble and Green Marble. The blue and green marble recipes are changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's defaults for those.[3]

Each marble also has slab, stairs and wall variants, such as Dark Marble Slab, Dark Marble Stairs and Dark Marble Wall. Blue, carmin, dark and green marble also have stonecutting recipes for these shapes.[3]
The marbles are also used for the decorative graves: Decorative Tombstone, Decorative Grave Simple, Decorative Grave Normal, Decorative Grave Cross, Decorative Grave Original and Decorative Subaraki Grave. Each marble type has its own recipe for them. Here is the dark marble one for the tombstone as an example.[3]

How does Corail Tombstone work with other mods?
1 part
The one in-pack link between Corail Tombstone and another mod is with Productive Bees. The pack has a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs Wax and Grave Dust together, and it is marked as changed by the pack.[3]
Centrifuge (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/tombstone/honeycomb_grave
A centrifuge recipe changed by the pack. It outputs Wax and Grave's Dust.
Why this matters
Grave's Dust is one of the things you need to build your own decorative graves, along with an Essence of Undeath. The mod's own description says you normally get the dust by killing undead mobs or through the Cat Morning Gift. In this pack, the centrifuge recipe gives you another source of it, so you aren't limited to hunting undead.[1][3]
The mod's project page says Corail Tombstone offers many compatibilities with other mods, but the part of it available here does not name them. Beyond the centrifuge recipe, no other connections with other mods are confirmed for this pack.[1]
Which Corail Tombstone config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Corail Tombstone is heavily configurable, but this pack leaves most of it at the mod's defaults. The handful of changes below are the ones that affect how you play, so start there.[1][4][5][8]
What the pack changed
- recovery.backup_on_death is true in this pack. The mod's own comment lists false as the default. Together with recovery.recovery_player_enable being on and recovery.recovery_player_max_saves set to 15, you get an automatic player backup when you die.[5]
- player_death.restore_effects_on_death is false. The mod's comment lists true as the default, so in this pack your beneficial potion effects are not restored after you die.[5]
- allowedMagicItems.allow_bag_of_seeds and allowedMagicItems.allow_book_of_recycling are both false. The mod default for each is true, so the Bag of Seeds and the Book of Recycling are switched off here. Every other magic item in that list is still allowed.[8]
- enchantments.frostbite_combining_fire_aspect is true. The mod default is false, so Frostbite can be combined with Fire Aspect in this pack. enchantments.plague_bringer_combining_magic_siphon stays false, so Plague Bringer cannot be combined with Magic Siphon.[8]
- client.enable_halloween_ghost is false, against a default of true. That means no Halloween ghost appears around you.[4]
- Two colour options differ from their defaults. client.fog_color is 16,777,215 (default 125,656), and client.particle_casting_color is 14,937,088 (default 125,656). These only change how the fog around graves and the magic-item particles look.[4]
Death settings left at their defaults
The item-loss options are all at 0. player_death.chance_loss_on_death and player_death.percent_loss_on_death are both 0, so nothing is lost from your grave through those options. player_death.decay_time is -1, which is the disabled value, so a grave is not unlocked to everyone after a set time.[5][8]
general.always_keep_xp_on_death is false, and player_death.chance_mob_on_grave_recovery is 0, so no creatures appear after you empty a grave.[5][8]
general.ghostly_shape_duration is 120 seconds. If you teleport with a Grave's Key, player_death.nerf_ghostly_shape_teleport_with_key is on and caps the effect at 10 seconds.[5][8]
Perks and prayer
Every perk is allowed in this pack, for example allowed_perks.allow_alchemist and allowed_perks.allow_necromancer. Perk levels are at their defaults too: allowed_perks.level_max_alchemist is 5, while allowed_perks.level_max_concentration is 3.[8]
allowed_perks.cooldown_reset_perk and decorative_grave.prayer_cooldown are both 120 minutes, the same as the defaults in the option comments.[8]
Client options you can tweak yourself
The client file is just personal preference. client.auto_equip_rule is ALWAYS, so your items are equipped automatically when you recover them. client.skip_respawn_screen is false, and client.activate_grave_by_sneaking is true. These match the mod defaults, so change them to suit you.[4]
What changed in Corail Tombstone between versions?

- All the Mods 10 4.6: updated from 9.4.5 to 9.4.7.[21]
Unverified The pack changelogs I have only record which version of the mod each release moved to, so what changed inside the mod in each update is unverified. The mod's own changelogs weren't available either. The step from 9.4.7 to the 9.4.8 build that ships in 4.14 isn't in the changelogs I have, so I can't say which pack release introduced it.
