What is Aquaculture 2?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Aquaculture 2 turns vanilla fishing into a real hobby. It adds over 30 new fish that you can catch with a rod or find swimming in the wild, and any rod works, modded or vanilla. Each biome type has its own fish, and that includes modded biomes, so rivers, ponds and oceans all feel a bit more alive.[1]
The mod also adds its own series of fishing rods. On these you can fit hooks and bait for extra functionality, plus custom fishing line and bobbers to make the rod your own. You apply all of these in the Tackle Box, which also stores your spare hooks, bait, line and bobbers.[1]
Your catches aren't just trophies. You can turn fish into fish fillets, and how many you get depends on the fish. Fishing can also pull up extra loot such as Driftwood, Tin Cans, Messages in a Bottle, Lockboxes, Treasure Chests and Neptune's Bounty. With luck you can even fish up the fabled Neptunium tools and armor, although the mod notes that this loot is configurable.[1]
If you like a relaxed side activity that still pays off with gear, this mod is for you. All the Mods 10 4.5 ships Aquaculture 2 version 2.7.14, and the mod has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[1][2]
Where it fits in the pack
The Food and Farming quest chapter walks you up the rod ladder, one quest per upgrade.[3]
- Start with the Iron Fishing Rod in a quest in "?".[3]
- Upgrade to the Golden Fishing Rod in a quest in "?".[3]
- Move on to the Diamond Fishing Rod in a quest in "?".[3]
- Finish with the Neptunium Fishing Rod in a quest in "?".[3]
Neptunium also appears in the gear chapters. In the Basic Tools chapter, the Neptunium Pickaxe is one of several pickaxes that complete a quest in "?", and the Neptunium Sword has its own quest, a quest in "?".[4]
In the Basic Armor chapter, a quest in "?" asks for the full Neptunium set: the Neptunium Helmet, Neptunium Chestplate, Neptunium Leggings and Neptunium Boots.[5]
How do you get started with Aquaculture 2?
5 parts
Aquaculture 2 expands fishing with over 30 new fish to catch, either with a rod or swimming in the wild, and any modded or vanilla rod will work. So you can start fishing on day one with whatever rod you already have, then upgrade into the mod's own rods when you want hooks, bait, line and bobbers.[1]
Step 1: an Iron Fishing Rod
The Iron Fishing Rod is your real entry point. Unlike a vanilla rod, the mod's rods let you equip hooks and bait for extra functionality, and this pack's quest line starts here too.[1][6]

Crafting it completes a quest in "?", which unlocks the rest of the rod chain in the pack's quest book.[6]
Step 2: a hook
Hooks are an early upgrade and each one changes how the rod behaves. The Iron Hook gives a 20% chance to not use durability, and it's also an ingredient in nearly every other hook, so make a few.[7][8]
- Double Hook gives a chance to catch two things at once.[7][8]
- Redstone Hook increases how long you have to reel in a fish, great if you keep losing catches.[7][8]
- Note Hook plays an alert when a fish is approaching, so you can look away from the water.[7][8]
- Diamond Hook steps the durability saving up to a 50% chance to not use durability.[7][8]
Step 3: a Fillet Knife
Fish you catch get turned into fish fillets, and the amount depends on the fish (or on weight, if that config option is enabled). A fillet knife is what does the work, and the wooden one is cheap enough to make immediately.[1]

Raw fillets cook into Cooked Fish Fillet in a furnace, a smoker or a campfire, so your fishing trips double as an early food supply.[8]
Then a Tackle Box
Modifiers and customization items are applied in the Tackle Box, which also stores your spare hooks, bait, line and bobbers. It needs iron and a chest, so it's a natural follow-up once you're settled in.[1][8]

You can also craft Fishing Line and a Bobber to make your rod truly your own.[1][8]
Where it goes next
From the iron rod, the pack's quests walk you up through a quest in "?" for the Golden Fishing Rod and a quest in "?" for the Diamond Fishing Rod, ending at a quest in "?" for the Neptunium Fishing Rod, which makes fish more likely to bite.[6][7]
Neptunium tools and armor are fished up as loot rather than mined, and once you have ingots they feed into the pack's a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" quests. So keep fishing: that's the whole progression.[1][9][10]
How does Aquaculture 2 work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Aquaculture 2 doesn't have machines, power or pipes. Everything revolves around your fishing gear: the rod, the hook, the line and the bobber, plus what you do with the catch afterwards. Once you know how those pieces fit together, the whole mod clicks.[1]
Rods, tackle and the Tackle Box
The mod adds over 30 new fish, and you can catch them with any rod, modded or vanilla. Its own rods are the better choice, though, because they let you equip hooks and bait for extra functionality. Fishing line and bobbers let you customize the rod further.[1]
You apply modifiers and customization items in the Tackle Box. It also stores spare hooks, bait, line and bobbers, so it works as your fishing inventory.[1]
The rods in this pack are the Iron Fishing Rod, the Golden Fishing Rod, the Diamond Fishing Rod and the Neptunium Fishing Rod.[11]

The mod's tooltips describe what these hooks do:[7]
- Iron Hook: 20% chance to not use durability.[7]
- Diamond Hook: 50% chance to not use durability.[7]
- Quartz hook: 30% chance to not use durability.[7]
- Nether star hook: 50% chance to not use durability and increased luck.[7]
- Double Hook: a chance to catch two things.[7]
- Redstone hook and soul sand hook: more time to reel in a fish.[7]
- Note hook: plays an alert when a fish is approaching.[7]
The tooltips also list a double obsidian hook and an obsidian note hook. They carry the same descriptions as the Double Hook and the note hook.[7]
Fish, fillets and loot
You can catch fish with a rod or find them swimming in the wild. Each biome type, modded biomes included, has its own fish. You can turn a caught fish into fillets, and the number of fillets depends on the fish, or on its weight if that config option is enabled. Fishing also turns up other loot, such as a Tin Can, a Message in a Bottle you right-click to read, and Neptune's Bounty.[1]
Cutting fish needs a fillet knife. The pack has the Iron Fillet Knife, Gold Fillet Knife, Diamond Fillet Knife and Neptunium Fillet Knife. The Neptunium version increases the amount of fillets you get.[7][11]
Neptunium gear
You can find Neptunium tools and armor as fishing loot, and this is configurable. The Neptunium Nugget, Neptunium Ingot and Neptunium Block convert into one another in the crafting grid.[1][11]

- Neptunium Fishing Rod: fish are more likely to bite.[7][11]
- Neptunium Helmet: improves your underwater vision.[7][11]
- Neptunium Chestplate: lets you breathe underwater.[7][11]
- Neptunium Leggings: makes you weightless underwater.[7][11]
- Neptunium Boots: increases your swim speed.[7][11]
- Neptunium Pickaxe and Neptunium Shovel: usable without a speed penalty underwater.[7][11]
- Neptunium Sword and Neptunium Axe: increase damage against enemies underwater.[7][11]
- Neptunium Bow: arrows go smoothly through water.[7][11]
- Neptunium Hoe: tilled farmland stays moist.[7][11]
Unverified Whether this pack enables the weight-based fillet option, and how often Neptunium gear drops as fishing loot, are config settings. No config files for this mod were available, so the sources here do not show those values.
How do you progress through Aquaculture 2?
5 parts
The pack's quest book walks you up the fishing rod ladder one tier at a time. In the food and farming chapter you start with the Iron Fishing Rod, then the Golden Fishing Rod, then the Diamond Fishing Rod, and finally the Neptunium Fishing Rod, with each quest unlocked by the one before it.[6]
Tier 1: Iron
The Iron Fishing Rod is your entry point and the target of the first quest in the chain. It's a straightforward early-game craft, so you can pick it up as soon as you have iron and a bit of string.[6][8]
Crafting Shaped

Iron also unlocks most of the mod's accessories. The Iron Hook is the base for nearly every other hook in the mod, and the Fishing Line and the Iron Fillet Knife are both iron-tier crafts too.[8]
Tier 2: Gold
Next up is the Golden Fishing Rod, which is the second quest in the chain. Gold also gets you the Gold Hook and the Gold Fillet Knife if you want to round out the set.[6][8]

Tier 3: Diamond
The third quest asks for the Diamond Fishing Rod. Diamond is also where the hook tree peaks before endgame: the Diamond Hook is made from an Iron Hook, and it in turn is the base for the Nether Star Hook.[6][8]

Tier 4: Neptunium
Neptunium is the top tier and the final quest in the rod chain. Everything in this tier is crafted from Neptunium Ingots, which you don't mine: the pack's bee mod can produce Neptunium Nuggets in a centrifuge, and nine nuggets craft back up into an ingot.[6][8]

Neptunium isn't just a fishing tier. The pack's basic tools chapter has a quest for the Neptunium Sword, and the Neptunium Pickaxe counts as one of several accepted options for another tools quest alongside picks from other mods. The basic armor chapter asks for the full Neptunium set: helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots.[9][10]

Beyond those, the ingot also covers the Neptunium Axe, Shovel, Hoe, Bow, Fillet Knife and Neptune's Bounty, plus a Neptunium Block for compact storage that you can uncraft back into ingots at any time.[8]
Side progression: knives and fillets
Fillet knives follow their own ladder that runs parallel to the rods: wooden, stone, iron, gold, diamond and finally Neptunium. They're not required by the quest chain, but they turn your catches into Raw Fish Fillet, which cooks into Cooked Fish Fillet in a furnace, smoker or on a campfire.[8]
The pack adds one extra option here: an alloy smelting recipe from the pack's Ender IO integration that cooks Raw Fish Fillet into Cooked Fish Fillet, so you can fold fish processing into an automated setup instead of running a separate smoker.[8]
Alloy Smelting (enderio)
Recipe id: enderio:smelting/aquaculture/cooked_fish_fillet
An extra cooking route added by the pack.
Raw fillets can also be turned straight into Sushi if you'd rather skip the cooking step.[8]
Unverified The sources don't include the stats of each rod tier (durability, catch rates or luck), so treat the ladder above as a crafting and quest order rather than a measured power curve.
How does Aquaculture 2 work with other mods?
2 parts
Aquaculture 2 mostly keeps to itself, but the pack wires it into a few other mods through recipes and quests. The biggest hook is that fishing itself is mod-agnostic: any modded or vanilla rod will catch the new fish, so you don't have to drop your favourite tool from another mod to enjoy the extra catches.[1]
Neptunium from bees
The clearest cross-mod link in the pack is a centrifuge recipe that turns a Neptunium-flavoured honeycomb into Neptunium Nugget along with Wax. If you'd rather farm Neptunium than fish for it, this is your route.[8]
Centrifuge (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/aquaculture/honeycomb_neptunium
Processed in the centrifuge.
Quests that cross mod lines
The pack's quest book treats Aquaculture's rods as a progression ladder in the food and farming chapter. You work up through Iron Fishing Rod in a quest in "?", then Golden Fishing Rod in a quest in "?", Diamond Fishing Rod in a quest in "?" and finally Neptunium Fishing Rod in a quest in "?".[6]
Neptunium gear also shows up in the general tool and armor chapters, standing shoulder to shoulder with kit from other mods. a quest in "?" accepts Neptunium Pickaxe as one valid option alongside eternal_starlight:swamp_silver_pickaxe, Resonarium Pickaxe and Utherium Pickaxe, so whichever of those four routes you take first, the quest completes.[9]
- a quest in "?" asks specifically for Neptunium Sword, sharing the same prerequisite as the pickaxe quest.[9]
- a quest in "?" in the armor chapter wants the full set: Neptunium Helmet, Neptunium Chestplate, Neptunium Leggings and Neptunium Boots.[10]
Unverified Beyond the centrifuge recipe above, we haven't confirmed any other cross-mod processing, alloying or transformation recipes for Aquaculture items in this pack.
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Aquaculture 2?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Aquaculture 2 shows up in three quest chapters in this pack. The biggest one is a fishing rod progression in the food and farming chapter. The basic tools and basic armor chapters also have quests for its Neptunium gear.[3][4][5]
Food and farming: the fishing rod ladder
This chapter has four quests in a straight chain. Each one asks for the next tier of fishing rod and unlocks only after you finish the one before it. The first rod quest opens after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[3]
- a quest in "?": get an Iron Fishing Rod.[3]
- a quest in "?": step up to a Golden Fishing Rod.[3]
- a quest in "?": next comes a Diamond Fishing Rod.[3]
- a quest in "?": finish the line with a Neptunium Fishing Rod.[3]
Basic tools: Neptunium pickaxe and sword
Two quests in the basic tools chapter use Neptunium gear, and both unlock after the same earlier quest in that chapter. You can do them in either order.[4]
- a quest in "?" is flexible: it accepts a Neptunium Pickaxe or one of several pickaxes from other mods. Any one of them completes it, so you don't need Aquaculture for this one.[4]
- a quest in "?" specifically asks for a Neptunium Sword.[4]
Basic armor: the full Neptunium set
In the basic armor chapter, a quest in "?" wants the whole set: Neptunium Helmet, Neptunium Chestplate, Neptunium Leggings and Neptunium Boots. Each piece is its own task, so you need all four to complete the quest.[5]
Which Aquaculture 2 config options matter?
2 parts
Aquaculture 2 keeps all of its settings in a single common config file, and in this pack the values sit at the mod's own defaults for everything the file reports a default for. Here's what each of the options you're most likely to touch actually does, and what it's set to right now.[12]
Basic options
- [[config:config/aquaculture-common.toml#basic options.Enable weight for fish? Useful for fishing competitions]] is off in this pack. Weight is meant for fishing competitions, and when it's enabled the number of fish fillets you get depends on the fish's weight instead of just the type of fish, so with it disabled your fillet yields come purely from the species you caught.[1][12]
- [[config:config/aquaculture-common.toml#basic options. How many blocks below sea level Aquaculture fish can spawn]] is set to 13, which matches the mod default. It can be anywhere from 0 to 63 if you want fish swimming in a deeper or shallower band of water.[12]
- [[config:config/aquaculture-common.toml#basic options.Show Fillet recipes in JEI?]] is on, so the fillet conversions for every fish show up in your recipe viewer instead of being hidden.[12]
- [[config:config/aquaculture-common.toml#basic options.Amount of Message In A Bottle messages. Used to add additional custom messages]] is 29, the mod default, with a range of 0 to 255. Bump it if you're adding your own custom messages for the Message in a Bottle you fish up.[1][12]
- [[config:config/aquaculture-common.toml#basic options.Enable debug mode? (Enables additional logging)]] is off, which is what you want unless you're chasing down a bug and need the extra logging.[12]
Neptunium options
Neptunium gear is the headline reward for spending time with a rod, and all three of its switches are turned on in this pack, so nothing about that progression has been cut.[1][12]
- [[config:config/aquaculture-common.toml#neptunium options.Add Neptune's Bounty as loot?]] is true, so Neptune's Bounty can appear as fishing loot. The config itself warns that it's very rare, so don't expect it on your first afternoon at the pond.[12]
- [[config:config/aquaculture-common.toml#neptunium options.Enable recipes for Neptunium items?]] and [[config:config/aquaculture-common.toml#neptunium options.Enable recipes for Neptunium armor?]] are both true, so the crafting recipes for Neptunium tools and armor are available rather than leaving that gear as fishing-loot-only.[1][12]
