What is RFTools Builder?
RFTools Builder is an addon for RFTools Base. It adds the builder, all the shape cards, and the shield system.[1]
The mod is meant to be used together with RFTools Power. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, so you need both of those alongside it.[1]
This pack ships version 1.21-7.0.6 of the mod. It has been in the pack since 1.1.1 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[2]
How do you get started with RFTools Builder?
4 parts
RFTools Builder adds the Builder, all the shape cards and the shield system. It is an addon for RFTools Base, depends on that and McJtyLib, and is meant to be used together with RFTools Power. Here is the order I'd make things in.[1]
Step one: a Shape Card
Start with the plain Shape Card. It represents an area that the builder or the shield can use, and the other cards build on it. The pack changed this recipe, so use the one below.[3][4]
Step two: the Builder
Next comes the Builder. It can quarry areas, pump liquids, move, copy or swap structures, collect items and XP, move entities and build structures. The pack changed its recipe too, and it needs a Machine Frame from RFTools Base. An infusing bonus reduces its power consumption and increases its speed.[3][4]
To mark an area, sneak right click on the builder to start mark mode, then right click to mark two corners of the area you want.[4]
Step three: upgrade your card
When you want the builder to dig, craft a Shape Card (Quarry) from your basic card. The other variants work the same way, each one made from a card you already have, such as Shape Card (Pump) and Shape Card (Placing Liquids).[3]

The Composer is also worth making early. It combines shape cards into a composition card and lets you rotate, flip and apply boolean operations to each child shape.[4]
Step four: shields
The Shield Projector Tier 1 forms a shield out of adjacent template blocks. It can filter by mob type and do various things such as damage or solid. Use the Smart Wrench to add sections to the shield. The pack changed this recipe as well.[3][4]

The template blocks come in colours, for example Red Shield Template. Template blocks of the same colour should touch the shield projector. One craft gives you 8 of them.[3][4]

How does RFTools Builder work?
6 parts
RFTools Builder is built around one big machine, the Builder, plus a set of cards and side systems that tell it what to do. It is an addon for RFTools Base, depends on McJtyLib, and is meant to be used together with RFTools Power. Here is how the pieces fit.[1]
The Builder and shape cards
The Builder can quarry areas, pump liquids, move, copy or swap structures, collect items and XP, move entities and build structures. What it does depends on the card you feed it. A shape card represents an area that the builder or the shield system can use.[4]
To mark an area, sneak right click on the builder to start mark mode, then right click to mark two corners of the area you want. Shape card tooltips also show the shape, dimension, offset, formulas and scan id.[4]
Infusing the Builder gives a bonus: reduced power consumption and increased speed. In this pack the Builder recipe has been changed from the mod's default, so check the recipe below rather than relying on older guides.[3][4]
Shape card variants
The special cards are all crafted from a plain Shape Card or from another special card. These are the variants that appear in the sources:[3][4]
- Shape Card (Quarry) is made from a plain shape card. Shape Card (Fortune Quarry) and Shape Card (Silk Quarry) are both upgrades of the Quarry card.[3][4]
- Shape Card (Pump) is made from a plain shape card. Shape Card (Clearing Pump) is made from the Pump card. There is also a recipe that turns the Clearing Pump card back into a Pump card.[3][4]
- Shape Card (Placing Liquids) (Placing Liquids) is made from a plain shape card.[3][4]
- Shape Card (Clearing Quarry) is made from the Quarry card.[3][4]

Composer and Scanner
The Composer combines shape cards into a composition card. It lets you rotate and flip each child shape and apply boolean operations to it. Infusing it reduces its power consumption.[4]
The Scanner recipe is also changed by this pack.[3]

Space Chamber and vehicles
A Space Chamber Controller is one of the eight corners of an area of space you want to copy or move elsewhere. The other corners should be normal Space Chamber blocks. The controller has a channel setting.[4]

The Space Card links to a space chamber. Sneak right click it on a space chamber controller to set its channel. Right click in the air to see an overview of the area contents. Insert it in a Builder to copy or move the linked area. The card shows a base cost, and the final cost depends on infusion level.[4]
The Vehicle Builder uses a space card linked to a space chamber to make a vehicle inside a Vehicle Card. The card shows its name and contents. The Vehicle Control Module recipe is changed in this pack.[3][4]

Movers
The Mover moves vehicles to other movers. It is used together with a Mover Controller, which you place next to one of the movers. Infusing the controller reduces its power consumption.[4]

Mover Control is the control screen that goes in your vehicle, and it controls the movement of that platform. It has four pages, and each page is its own block. You switch pages by crafting: Page 2 is made from the first page, and Page 4 can be crafted back into the first page. A Mover Status block, which also goes in the vehicle, gives more information about the platform.[3][4]
Shields
A Shield Projector (Tier 1 to 4) forms a shield out of adjacent template blocks. It can filter by mob type and do various things such as damage or solid. Use the Smart Wrench to add sections to the shield. Infusing a projector reduces its power consumption and increases its damage.[4]
Template blocks come in blue, green, red and yellow. The set of template blocks with the same color should touch the shield projector. In this pack the blue and green template recipes each make 8 blocks.[3][4]

How do you progress through RFTools Builder?
6 parts
RFTools Builder has no single linear path in this pack. It is a set of machine families, and the recipes show a clear order inside each one: a base machine first, then upgrades that build on it. Parts from RFTools Base and the card-copying system from McJtyLib tie them together. Below, I go family by family and point out where the pack changed the recipe.[3]
Stage 1: Shape cards and the core builders
Everything shape-related starts with the Shape Card. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's version, so check the recipe below rather than relying on older guides.[3]

Stage 2: Upgraded shape cards
Special cards are made by combining a basic Shape Card with extra materials. The Shape Card (Quarry), Shape Card (Pump), Shape Card (Placing Liquids) and Shape Card (Void) all start from it.[3]

Stage 3: Shield projector tiers
The shield projector has four tiers. Shield Projector Tier 1 is crafted from scratch and the pack changed its recipe. Tiers 2, 3 and 4 are upgrades: you put the previous tier in the crafting grid with extra materials. Tier 3 and Tier 4 both need a Dimensional Shard, and Tier 4 also needs a nether star.[3]

How does RFTools Builder work with other mods?
3 parts
RFTools Builder is an addon, so its strongest links in this pack are to the rest of the RFTools family and to vanilla Minecraft. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, and it is meant to be used together with RFTools Power.[1]
RFTools Base is the backbone
Almost every machine in the mod is built around the Machine Frame from RFTools Base. That includes the Builder, Composer, Scanner, Projector, Space Chamber, Vehicle Builder, the mover family and the first-tier shield projector.[3]
The Scanner and Projector also use the Infused Diamond, another RFTools Base item.[3]
The Dimensional Shard gates the upgrades. The Fortune and Silk quarry shape cards each need a Dimensional Shard on top of a plain Shape Card (Quarry). Shield Projector Tier 3 and Shield Projector Tier 4 also need a shard. Tier 3 is built from Shield Projector Tier 2, and Tier 4 is built from Tier 3.[3]

Vanilla Minecraft parts
The mover machines lean on vanilla rail and redstone components. The Mover and Mover Controller use the mod's own recipes. The Mover Control and Mover Status have recipes that the pack changed.[3]

Other pack-changed recipes are the Builder, Projector, Scanner, Vehicle Builder and Shield Projector Tier 1. The Composer, Space Chamber, the Fortune and Silk quarry cards, and Shield Projector Tiers 3 and 4 use the mod's own recipes.[3]

Tag-based slots
Several recipes use common item tags instead of one fixed item, such as redstone dust, ender pearls, iron or gold ingots, quartz, blue dye and glass blocks. Any item in the matching tag works in that slot.[3]
Which RFTools Builder config options matter?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.6 guide
I don't have any config information for RFTools Builder in this pack, so I can't tell you which options matter or what values the pack sets. No config files for this mod were available to me, and the only source I have is the mod's project page, which doesn't list any options.[1]
Unverified Whether the pack changed any RFTools Builder config values from the mod defaults, and what those values are, is unverified. Check the config files in your own instance rather than relying on mod defaults, since the pack's values may differ.
What changed in RFTools Builder between versions?
1 part
RFTools Builder has been in the pack since All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.1.1 or earlier, and version 2.0.4 ships RFTools Builder 1.21-7.0.6. The pack changelogs I have don't mention this mod, so the history below comes from the mod's own changelog.[2]
