What is RFTools Base?
4 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation for McJty's tech mods. It is the base mod for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. This pack includes version 1.21-6.0.8. You will mostly run into it as the shared source of materials and utilities that those other machines are built on.[1][2][3]
What it gives you
- Dimensional Shard ore generation, with a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions.[1]
- The machine infuser.[1]
- Base crafting materials for the other tech mods.[1]
- The smart wrench.[1]
- A security and owner system.[1]
Dimensional Shards
Dimensional Shard Ore sits underground in small clusters. Fortune affects it, and it drops Dimensional Shards when broken. Shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and you can also use them to infuse machines.[4]
Machine Frames and Machine Bases
Machine Frames are the housing for machines and devices. They do nothing on their own, but they show up as a crafting ingredient everywhere.[5]
Machine Bases work the same way as a crafting material, but the machines they produce are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output. The direction a machine faces depends on which edge of the block your cursor is closest to when you place it. That makes them handy in cramped spaces and on walls. If you don't like the facing, right-click with the wrench in Wrench Mode to change it.[6]
Redstone tools and modules
The in-game guide for this mod also covers a set of redstone logic blocks, such as the Counter, Timer and Sequencer. It also covers tools for configuring the tech machines. Many machines in the RFTools mods accept modules, and in most cases you can just right-click the machine with the module to insert it.[7][8][9][10][11][12]
Unverified The sources do not show RFTools Base on the ATM Star path or tied to any quest in this pack, so don't expect a quest to introduce it.
How do you get started with RFTools Base?
6 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation of the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. On its own it gives you crafting materials, the Machine Infuser, the Smart Wrench and Dimensional Shard ore, so your first steps are about getting those ready for the other tech mods.[1][3]
Make the Technology Guide
Start with the Technology Guide. It's the in-game manual for everything McJty makes, and the pack leaves its recipe as the mod's own.[13][14]

Craft a Machine Frame and a Machine Base
A Machine Frame does nothing by itself, but it's a crafting ingredient you'll use constantly. The pack changed its recipe, so go by the one below rather than what you remember from other packs.[5][14]

Get Dimensional Shards
Dimensional Shard drops from Dimensional Shard Ore, which generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions. Fortune affects the drops. There's only a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions. You'll need shards for several more complicated recipes and for infusing machines.[1][4]
The pack also changed the crafting recipe for the shard, so you aren't limited to mining it.[14]

Build the Machine Infuser
The Machine Infuser uses Dimensional Shards to improve other machines. For most machines, infusing lowers their power requirements, and some get extra benefits. You can even infuse the Infuser itself so it uses less power. The pack changed its recipe.[14][15]

Grab the Smart Wrench
The Smart Wrench works like a normal wrench: sneak right-click to pick a tech block up and right-click to rotate it. Right-click in the air to change mode. Select Mode is for special operations on blocks like the Shield Projector. The pack keeps the mod's recipe.[14][16]

Handy extras
- Information Screen: put it next to a machine to show information. It shows energy by default, and a wrench toggles the display mode if the attached machine supports it. The pack changed this recipe.[14][17]
- Filter Module: whitelists or blacklists items for machines that support it, such as the Crafter. The pack changed this recipe.[14][18][19]
- Tablet (empty): lets you remotely access machines, as long as they are near enough or chunkloaded. The pack changed its recipe.[14][20]

How does RFTools Base work?
4 parts
RFTools Base is the base mod for all the McJty tech mods. It supplies the shared parts the other mods build on: Dimensional Shard ore generation, the Machine Infuser, base crafting materials, the Smart Wrench, and a security and owner system.[1][3]
Dimensional Shards and infusing
Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters, with a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions. Fortune affects it, and it drops Dimensional Shard. Shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and you can also use them to infuse machines.[1][4]

The pack also has a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs a Dimensional Shard. The pack changed it from the default.
Shards are also an ingredient for Infused Diamond and Infused Enderpearl.[14]

The Machine Infuser is where shards pay off. It uses them to improve the efficiency of a lot of machines. For most machines, infusing reduces their power requirements, and some get extra benefits. You can infuse the Infuser itself so it uses less power.[15]

The extra benefits depend on the machine. Here are some examples from the guide:[15]
- The Matter Transmitter uses less power and teleports faster when infused.[21]
- The Matter Receiver uses less power when infused.[22]
- The Dialing Device and the Crafter both use less power when infused.[19][23]
- The Screen Controller gets a larger range when infused. Without infusion, its Scan button connects screens within a 32x32x32 radius.[24]
Machine Frames and Machine Bases
Every machine needs a housing. The Machine Frame does nothing on its own, but it is a very common crafting ingredient.[5]

The Machine Base is also just a crafting material. The difference is in what you build from it. Machines made from a base are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output.[6]
Crafting Shaped

When you place one of these machines, its facing depends on which edge of the block face your cursor is closest to. Picture an X on the face you're placing against and look at which quarter of the X your cursor is in. The output faces that way and the input comes from the opposite side. This makes them handy in cramped spaces and on walls. If you don't like the facing, right-click with the wrench in Wrench Mode to change it.[6]
Modules, filters and crafting cards
Many RFTools machines accept modules. These are items you insert to modify a machine or add functions to it. When a machine supports modules, you can usually just right-click the machine with the module to insert it.[9]
The Filter Module lets a machine whitelist or blacklist items. The guide lists the Builder, Modular Storage and Crafter as supporting it. It handles blocks, items and tags, and you can also require matching on NBT and damage.[18]
- Sneak right-click an inventory, such as a chest, to add everything in it to the filter.[18]
- Sneak right-click a block in the world to add that block to the filter.[18]
- In the filter's GUI you can add tags, or convert a block or item into its matching tags.[18]

The Crafting Card holds a recipe. It works for regular 3x3 recipes and for more complex shapes, and various machines can use it. The stored recipe doesn't have to be valid, so the card can also stand in for a general set of inputs and an output.[25]

Tools and remote access
The Smart Wrench works like a normal wrench. Sneak right-click to pick a block up and right-click to rotate it. Right-click in the air to change mode. In Select Mode it performs specialized operations on blocks such as the Shield Projector.[16]
Crafting Shaped

The Tablet (empty) gives you remote access to machines. Sneak right-click to open its internal GUI, where you can install up to 6 modules. A normal right-click opens the GUI of the current module, and the previous and next destination keys switch between installed modules. The target machine must be near enough or chunkloaded. If it is properly chunkloaded, the tablet also works from another dimension.[20]
Screen Link and Redstone Information items can go into the tablet. A Screen Link is linked to a Screen with a right-click, so you can view that Screen from anywhere as long as it is chunkloaded. Redstone Information stores redstone channels, which you add by right-clicking a Redstone Transmitter or Receiver, so you can read and change those signals remotely.[26][27]

The Information Screen is a small screen you place next to a machine. By default it shows energy information. It can show power information for any block that supports RF/FE, and some machines offer extra views. Using a wrench on it toggles the display mode when the attached machine supports that.[17][28]

How do you progress through RFTools Base?
4 parts
RFTools Base is the base mod for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet, so almost everything you do with those mods starts with the items in this section. Here the progression is a short crafting ladder: basic housings and tools first, then Dimensional Shards, then everything built on shards.[3]
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest chapter that covers RFTools Base, so there is no quest-guided path to describe. The tiers below follow the in-pack recipes instead.
Housings and basic tools
Start with the Machine Frame. It does nothing on its own, but it is a crafting ingredient you will keep using. The pack changed its recipe from the mod default.[5][14]

Dimensional Shards
Shards unlock the more complicated recipes. Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions, and Fortune affects its drops. Shards are also used to infuse machines.[4]
You can also craft the Dimensional Shard. The pack changed that recipe, so it differs from the mod default.[14]

There is also a pack-changed Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs Dimensional Shards. Its id mentions honeycomb, but the recipe dump shows no item inputs for it.[14]

Infused materials and the Machine Infuser
With shards in hand you can make the Infused Diamond, whose recipe the pack changed. The Infused Enderpearl uses the unchanged mod recipe.[14]

How does RFTools Base work with other mods?
5 parts
RFTools Base is mostly a crafting-material mod. It is the base for the rest of the RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet, so most of its connections to other mods are recipes that use its items. In this pack that means XNet, RFTools Utility and a Productive Bees conversion.[1][3][14]
Machine Frame and Machine Base
Machine Frame does nothing on its own, but it is a ubiquitous crafting ingredient. Machine Base is also only a crafting material, and the machines made from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output.[5][6]
XNet
The XNet blocks that connect to RFTools Base are Controller, Redstone Proxy, Router and Wireless Router. The pack changes all of these recipes, so don't rely on the mod's default recipes. The Router below shows the pack's version.[14]

RFTools Utility
RFTools Utility leans on Machine Base and Machine Frame heavily. These redstone-style machines use a Machine Base, and the pack changes their recipes: Analog, Counter, Digit, Inventory Checker, Logic, Redstone Receiver, Redstone Transmitter, Sensor, Sequencer, Simple Dialer, Timer and Wire.[14]
The bigger machines use a Machine Frame, and the pack changes these recipes too: Destination Analyzer, Dialing Device, Environmental Controller, Matter Beamer, Matter Booster, Matter Receiver, Matter Transmitter, Screen Controller and Spawner. The Crafter Tier 1, Tank and Screen recipes are listed as the mod's own recipes, not pack changes.[14]
Module upgrades
Modules go into machines that support them, and you can usually right-click the machine with the module to insert it. The module templates are where RFTools Base materials come in: Module Template is a use for the Dimensional Shard, and ModulePlus Template builds on that template. Both are the mod's own recipes, shown below.[4][9][14]

The Plus modules are built on the ModulePlus Template. Featherfalling+ Module, Regeneration+ Module, Saturation+ Module and Speed+ Module are the mod's own recipes. Haste+ Module is the one the pack changes. The Flight Module, Peaceful Module and Waterbreathing Module use a Syringe recipe type instead.[14]

Productive Bees
The pack has a Productive Bees conversion recipe that takes an Infused Diamond and links it to the Productive Bees dimensional shard. The pack changes this recipe.[14]
