What is Mama's Herbs and Harvest?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.0 guide

Mama's Herbs and Harvest is part of this pack, shipped as version 1.21.1-12 (the file herbsandharvest-1.21.1-12.jar). It isn't a new addition. It has been in the modlist since pack version 2.25 or earlier, so it's a settled part of the lineup.[1]

Unverified What the mod adds, who it's aimed at and where it fits in the pack's progression can't be confirmed yet, so those details are left out. Look the mod up in-game with a recipe viewer to see its items and recipes. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Mama's Herbs and Harvest?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

This mod is about farming and cooking. It adds crops, herbs, fruit trees, cookware and a long list of cooked dishes. Here is the order I'd start in, and why.[2]

Craft the handbook first

Start with The Homesteader's Handbook. It is the mod's own guide item, and the mod's text includes guide entries that describe dishes, such as Bagel and Cream Cheese. It is a good thing to have on hand before you start cooking.[2][3]

Make your cookware

Next come the Empty Pot and the Empty Baking Pan. The pot goes into the Pot of Beef Stew, shown below, and the mod has pan dishes such as the Pan of Chicken. The pack changed both cookware recipes, so use the ones below and not what you remember from other packs.[2][3]

Tip: A soup pot has to be heated before you can enjoy the soup, so plan a heat source under it.[2]

Start a crop

You can craft seeds straight from the crop. Barley is a good first pick because it also leads to the Barley Bread and the Bagel, with their recipes shown below the seed recipe. Turn it into seeds like this:[3]

Slice your bread

Bread Slice shows up in sandwiches like the Beef and Cheddar Sandwich, which needs 2 slices. Crafting one bread gives you 8 slices. There is also a Farmer's Delight cutting recipe that turns bread into a slice with a knife.[3]

How does Mama's Herbs and Harvest work?

4 parts

Mama's Herbs and Harvest is a cooking and farming mod, not a tech mod. The sources I have don't describe any power, fluid or pipe handling for it, so this section covers what they do show: the stations and blocks the mod adds, the messages the game gives you, how food is crafted in this pack, and how its plants generate in the world.[2][4]

Stations and cooking blocks

The mod's language file lists the cooking stations: a Butter Churn, a Cheesemaking Cauldron, a Cheese Aging Shelf, a Salt Basin, an Ingredient Jar, a Spice Jar, a Produce Basket, a Cake Stand and a Cupcake Stand. It also lists a Charcuterie Board and a Glass Pitcher.[2]

Cooked meals have their own blocks too. There is an Empty Baking Pan and a set of filled pans: Pan of Lasagna, Pan of Meatloaf, Pan of Pot Roast, Pan of Beef Wellington, Pan of Salmon Steaks and more. Soups use an Empty Pot, which you can also see as the item Empty Pot.[2]

Tip: Two messages tell you how these stations behave. If you try to make dairy products in a cauldron that isn't empty, you get "Cauldron is not empty. Please empty before making dairy products." For soup, the game says "The soup pot must be heated to enjoy the soup!" so a pot of soup needs heating before you can eat it.[2]

The language file also has guide entries for aging cheese on the Cheese Aging Shelf, using the Produce Basket, pan meals and soups. Those entries only appear as titles in the sources, so I can't tell you the exact steps for churning, cheesemaking, salting or aging.[2]

Unverified The exact steps, timings and inputs for the Butter Churn, Cheesemaking Cauldron, Cheese Aging Shelf and Salt Basin are not confirmed by the available sources.

Crafting food in this pack

In this pack's recipe dump, the mod's food recipes shown are ordinary crafting recipes, and most are shapeless. That includes the Apple Pie, the Blueberry Muffin and the Bagel with Cream Cheese. A few, like the Barley Bread, are shaped. Many recipes accept any item from a shared food group, such as any butter, egg or milk, rather than one specific item.[4]

Some recipes need a container item. Blackberry Jam uses Spice Jar Item, and the Pot of Beef Stew uses the Empty Pot. Here is the stew as the pack has it:[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: herbsandharvest:beef_stew_pot

Seeds come straight from the crop. The pack has single-ingredient recipes that turn Asparagus, Barley, Blackberry and Blueberry into their seeds, for example Barley Seeds from Barley.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: herbsandharvest:barley_seeds

Slices and boards are made the same way. A Bread Slice comes from any bread, and a Wood Board comes from a spruce slab.[4]

Fruit trees in the world

The mod adds fruit trees to world generation for avocado, cherry, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear and plum. Each one is added to Overworld biomes in the vegetal decoration step.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]

In the tree configs I can see (avocado, cherry, lemon, lime, orange, peach and pear), the trunk is oak log with a base height of 4. The foliage is a weighted mix: plain Fruit Tree Leaves have a weight of 3, and the fruit-bearing leaves for that tree have a weight of 1. So most leaves on a generated tree are plain, and only some can bear fruit.[13][14][15][16][17][18][19]

Cinnamon and thistle

Cinnamon works differently. World generation places a cinnamon sapling in the jungle, mangrove swamp, sparse jungle and bamboo jungle biomes, with a count of 3 in its placement settings. So look for it in those biomes.[20][21][22]

Thistle is also generated in Overworld biomes, placed as the lower half of the plant.[23][24]

The placement files for the individual fruit trees are too long to show here, so I can't tell you how often each tree spawns.[5]

How do you progress through Mama's Herbs and Harvest?

6 parts

This mod has no quests in the pack's quest book, so there is no quest order to follow. The path below follows the in-pack recipes instead, and each tier feeds the next: crops, herbs, stations, then finished dishes.[4]

Tier 1: Crops and seeds

Everything starts in the field. Asparagus and barley crops give you the crop itself only when fully grown (age 7). Break them younger and you just get seeds back. A fully grown crop also gives bonus seeds, and Fortune improves that bonus.[25][26]

Once you have a crop item you can turn it into more seeds by crafting. This works for Asparagus, Barley, Blueberry, Blackberry, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower and Celery.[4]

Avocados work differently. Breaking Avocado Fruit Leaves can drop an avocado fruit sapling, and Fortune raises the chance. Shears or Silk Touch drop the leaves block itself.[27]

Tier 2: Herbs

Herbs have a simple chain. Each fresh herb, such as Fresh Basil or Fresh Thyme, is crafted on its own into a chopped version like Chopped Basil or Chopped Thyme. The pot dishes and pot pies later on use these chopped herbs.[4]

Tier 3: Kitchen stations

Before the bigger dishes, craft the stations. The Butter Churn, the Cake Stand and the Cheese Aging Shelf are all crafted with plain wood parts.[4]

The Wood Board is a separate craft. You need it later for the Charcuterie Board.[4]

Tier 4: Simple foods

Your first dishes only need a few inputs. Try Barley Slice, Barley Bread, Bread Slice and the Bagel. The slices are also building blocks for sandwiches such as the Beef and Cheddar Sandwich.[4]

Tier 5: Baking

Pies, muffins and cakes come next. Examples are the Apple Pie, Blueberry Muffin, Carrot Cake and Black Forest Cake. Many of them want Ground Cinnamon, and the apple pie also wants Ground Ginger, so stock those first.[4]

Tier 6: Soups and full meals

The top of the chain is the pot dishes and layered meals. The Pot of Beef Stew, Pot of Chicken Noodle Soup and Pot of Corn Chowder all pull together vegetables, chopped herbs and an Empty Pot. The Burrito, Chef Salad and Charcuterie Board sit up here too.[4]
