What is FTB Quests?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.2 guide

FTB Quests is included in this pack as version 2101.1.27, using the NeoForge build of the mod. It has been part of the pack since pack version 2.25 or earlier, so it's been around for most of the pack's life.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't describe what FTB Quests does, who it's aimed at, or how it fits into this pack's progression, so those details are left out until they can be confirmed.

How do you get started with FTB Quests?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

FTB Quests adds a small set of craftable items to the pack, and every one of them has a simple recipe. Here is the order I'd make them in.[2]

The Quest Book

Start with the Quest Book. Its recipe is shapeless, so the ingredients can go anywhere in the crafting grid.[2]

The Loot Crate Opener

Next is the Loot Crate Opener. It is a block, and when you right-click it, it shows how many items it has stored ("Stored items"). Its recipe is shaped, so follow the pattern shown below.[2][3]

Task Screens

The Task Screen (1x1) is where every screen starts. The 3x3, 5x5 and 7x7 recipes all use the smaller screens, so craft the 1x1 first and work upwards.[2]

Once you have a 1x1, you can make the Task Screen (3x3). After that come the Task Screen (5x5) and the Task Screen (7x7).[2]

The Task Screen Configurator

Finally, make the Task Screen Configurator. Its recipe also builds on the 1x1 screen. The screen settings in the mod include Size, Skin, Task Index, Fullscreen, Hide Icons, Indestructible, Input Only, Input Mode Icon and Draw Text Shadows. If you see "You don't have permission to configure this!", you are not allowed to change that screen.[2][3]

Tip: Every recipe above is a mod recipe in this pack, and the recipe blocks show the exact in-pack versions. Check those rather than assuming anything from memory.[2]

How does FTB Quests work?

5 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

The sources here don't describe any power, fluid or multiblock mechanics for FTB Quests. What they do show is a set of blocks that connect the quest book to the world, plus a few rules for how quests unlock. Here is what is confirmed about each one.[3]

Task Screens

Task Screens show a quest task in the world. They come in several sizes: Task Screen (1x1), Task Screen (3x3), Task Screen (5x5) and Task Screen (7x7). The settings listed for a screen are Size, Skin, Task Index, Fullscreen, Hide Icons, Indestructible, Input Mode Icon, Input Only and Draw Text Shadows. If you lack permission to configure a screen, you get a message saying so.[3]

The pack also has the Task Screen Configurator. Here are the in-pack recipes for the screens and the configurator:[2]

Quest Chest, detectors and barriers

The mod's language file lists several more blocks. The sources only give their names and settings, so I won't guess at exact behaviour beyond that.[3]

  • Quest Chest: it has an Input Slot described as "Place items here to complete quests" and an Output Slot described as "Rewards will appear here". There is also an Auto-Transfer All Items option.[3]
  • Quest Detector: it has Notifications and Task settings. The Player Detector variant has Radius, Height and Offset Y. The Redstone Detector variant has a Required Redstone Level.[3]
  • Quest Progress Detector: it has an Object ID and an Output Level.[3]
  • Quest Barrier and Stage Barrier: the Quest Barrier has an Object ID and an Invisible When Open option. Barriers can also teleport, with optional dimension, relative position, yaw and pitch. Yaw 0 is South, 90 is West, 180 is North and 270 is East. Leave the dimension empty to teleport within the current dimension.[3]
  • Progress Screen: the language file lists it as a separate block from the Task Screens.[3]

Loot Crates

The Loot Crate Opener is a block that shows "Stored items" with a count when you right-click it. A separate Loot Crate Storage block also exists. The sources don't explain how items move in or out, so test it in a world before you build around it. This is its recipe:[2][3]

How quest logic works

The mod's tooltips describe a few rules that shape how a questline plays. Progression mode is either Linear or Flexible. In Linear mode, a quest must be complete before the quests that depend on it are started. In Flexible mode, you can progress tasks in dependent quests at any time, but those quests can't be completed until the dependency is.[3]

  • Min Required Dependencies: if set above 0, the quest becomes an OR quest, where only that many dependencies are needed to unlock it.[3]
  • Sequential tasks: when true, tasks must be completed in the strict order they were added to the quest. A quest can also use its chapter's setting.[3]
  • Repeatable quests: the repeat cooldown is the delay in seconds between claiming all the rewards and being able to redo the tasks.[3]
  • Detection delay: the minimum interval, in ticks, between checks of a player's inventory when it changes. Higher values are easier on server TPS but delay auto-completion messages.[3]

How do you progress through FTB Quests?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

The sources I have for FTB Quests in this pack show one real progression chain: the Task Screen sizes, from the smallest screen to the largest. Every other FTB Quests item here has its own single recipe.[4]

Quest Book and Loot Crate Opener

The Quest Book has its own crafting recipe in the pack.[4]

Task Screen sizes

Task Screens come in the sizes Task Screen (1x1), Task Screen (3x3), Task Screen (5x5) and Task Screen (7x7). Each larger size is crafted from the smaller screens, so you work up through them in order.[4]

The 5x5 screen uses both the 1x1 and 3x3 screens.

The 7x7 screen is the largest and uses the 1x1, 3x3 and 5x5 screens.

Configuring screens

The Task Screen Configurator is made from a 1x1 screen, so you can craft it once you have your first screen.[4]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest in this pack that involves FTB Quests items or guides you through them, so there is no quest-by-quest path in this section. Check the pack's quest book for anything beyond the recipes above.
