What is Ars Caelum?

Ars Caelum is part of this pack. It ships version 3.0.0 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been included since version 1.0 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources here do not show what Ars Caelum does, so this guide doesn't describe its features. They also don't show where the pack's quest book places the mod (chapter, group, or what comes before and after it), or whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the quest book in-game for any placement.

How do you get started with Ars Caelum?

4 parts

Ars Caelum turns islands and a few handy effects into rituals you craft as items. Every recipe below is the exact in-pack one, so the site shows you the ingredients. Here's the order I'd go in, starting with islands and then the quality-of-life rituals.[2][3]

Conjure your first island

Four of the island rituals are the simple themed ones. Conjure Island: Vexing makes an island of Vexing Archwoods, source berries, mycelium and mushrooms, and converts the area to Mushroom Island. Conjure Island: Cascading gives you Cascading Archwoods, coral and sugarcane.[2][3]

Conjure Island: Flourishing brings Flourishing Archwoods, moss, glow berries and bamboo, and converts the area to Mangrove Swamp. Conjure Island: Blazing gives you Blazing Archwoods and lava, and converts the area to Archwood Forest.[2][3]

Watch out: Each of these island rituals needs a full jar of Source to begin, and should be performed at least 14 blocks from any other block. Find open sky before you start.[3]

Get a stone supply

Sedimentation converts four nearby water sources and produces cobblestone on the last source consumed. Augment it with Deepslate and you get Deepslate instead.[2][3]

Keep your mana topped up

Mana Regeneration grants mana regeneration to all players nearby, which is great if you're playing with friends.[2][3]

How does Ars Caelum work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Ars Caelum works through rituals in this pack. The sources I have cover what each ritual does and how its item is crafted. They don't describe machines, multiblocks, power, fluid handling or automation, so I'm not going to guess at those.[3][4]

Island rituals

Most of the island rituals need a full jar of Source before they begin. The exception in the descriptions is the village ritual, which doesn't mention it. The island rituals also carry a placement warning: perform them at least 14 blocks from any other block, so pick an open spot. The End Portal ritual words it more strictly and says it must be performed 14 blocks away from other blocks.[3]

Utility rituals

  • Sedimentation converts four nearby water sources and produces cobblestone on the last source consumed. Augment it with Deepslate to get Deepslate instead.[3][4]
  • Mana Regeneration grants mana regeneration to all players nearby.[3][4]
  • Summon Guardians summons waves of Guardians. Augment it with a Sea Lantern to summon an Elder Guardian.[3][4]
Watch out: The Summon Guardians ritual spawns hostile mobs, so only start it when you're ready to fight. The Elder Guardian version needs the Sea Lantern augment.[3]

Crafting the ritual items

In this pack every ritual item is made with a shapeless crafting recipe. The ingredients are mostly Ars Nouveau archwood logs and saplings, plus things like diamonds, ender eyes or blaze rods. Here are the exact in-pack recipes.[4]

How do you progress through Ars Caelum?

2 parts

Ars Caelum doesn't have a tier ladder you unlock step by step in this pack. What the pack does give us is a set of rituals, and each one is crafted as a shapeless recipe. This section walks through them so you can see what you can make and in what order you might tackle them.[2]

Unverified No quests in this pack involve Ars Caelum, and no in-jar guidebook or official documentation could be found. Any specific order for the rituals is therefore your own choice and not something the pack enforces.

Island rituals

These rituals all start with Conjure Island in the name. Each one is its own item with its own in-pack recipe, so you can pick whichever island you want first.[2]

Here are the exact in-pack recipes, starting with the elemental islands.[2]

Next come the more specialised islands: the geode, the Deep Dark, the village and the End portal island.[2]

Utility rituals

Besides islands, the mod adds rituals for other jobs: Mana Regeneration, Sedimentation and Summon Guardians. They are crafted the same way as the island rituals.[2]

How does Ars Caelum work with other mods?

3 parts

Ars Caelum's recipes in this pack lean heavily on Ars Nouveau. Every Ars Caelum ritual item in the recipe data is a shapeless recipe, and each of them takes an Ars Nouveau ingredient, usually a colored Archwood log. If you already have an Ars Nouveau setup going, you're most of the way there.[2]

Archwood colors map to island themes

The basic island rituals follow the Archwood color. Conjure Island: Blazing is made from the Blazing (red) Archwood, Conjure Island: Cascading from the Cascading (blue), Conjure Island: Flourishing from the Flourishing (green), and Conjure Island: Vexing from the Vexing (purple). Each of these uses the matching log and sapling, so you'll need to grow the right tree first.[2]

Special islands and other rituals

The more unusual islands still start from Archwood. Conjure Island: End Portal, Conjure Island: Geode and Conjure Island: Deep Dark all use Vexing Archwood Log as their Ars Nouveau ingredient. Conjure Island: Village mixes the Cascading, Flourishing and Blazing saplings, so it needs several tree types.[2]

The non-island rituals tie in too. Mana Regeneration is the ritual that calls for Abjuration Essence. Sedimentation uses Frostaya together with a Cascading Archwood log. Summon Guardians also takes a Cascading Archwood log.[2]

Vanilla and shared-tag ingredients

Beyond Ars Nouveau, several rituals use vanilla items such as Ender Eye, Amethyst Block, Deepslate and Blaze Rod. Others accept anything in common tags: diamond gems, Source storage blocks, blaze rods, diamond storage blocks or fish. Any item in the tag works, so you aren't locked to a specific mod's item for those slots.[2]

Tip: Vexing Archwood Logs are used in the End Portal, Geode, Deep Dark and Mana Regeneration rituals, as well as the Vexing island. Cascading Archwood Logs appear in the Cascading island, Village, Summon Guardians and Sedimentation. Stock up on Vexing and Cascading logs first.[2]
