What is Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

2 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls is an add-on for Industrial Foregoing that speeds up your machines using souls. In the base mod you pull those souls out of a Warden. It also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, which the mod uses a lot. This pack includes version 1.10.7.[1][2]

How it works

  1. Put a lens in the Soul Laser Base. It needs the Blue Lens, and the mod page warns you not to forget it. In this pack that is the Blue Laser Lens.[1][3]
  2. Use the Soul Laser Base to extract souls from the creature. The mod page says a Stasis Chamber is your friend here.[1]
  3. Connect the base to a Soul Surge with Soul Pipes.[1]
  4. Point the Soul Surge at the block you want to accelerate. A redstone signal stops it from working.[1]

By default each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster. The mod's default config sets that as 300 ticks of soul time and 4 extra ticks of acceleration. You can also stop a block from being accelerated by adding it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

Unverified These numbers are the mod's defaults. The sources do not show whether the pack changes any of these config values.

In this pack

The pack changes the soul source. Its quest text says you extract souls from Mewtwo instead of the Warden. Extracting hurts the creature and can even kill it, so the quest strongly recommends Stasis Chambers, ideally with upgrades to heal it faster. It also says to leave a 3 block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base.[3]

The quest "Industrial Foregoing &#27AEB9Souls" quest unlocks after Supreme Machine Frame. It asks for the Blue Laser Lens, Soul Laser Base, Soul Pipe and Soul Surge. It is marked as a work in progress.[3]

Watch out: The quest text warns that, as of writing, Mewtwo is unobtainable. That means this mod has no practical use yet. Check the quest before you spend resources on it.[3]

This mod is for players who already have Industrial Foregoing machines running and want them to go faster. It is an optional late-game boost rather than a requirement.[1][3]

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

3 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls adds machines that accelerate your other machines. The quest "Industrial Foregoing &#27AEB9Souls" quest in the Industrial Foregoing chapter is your roadmap, and it comes after the Supreme Machine Frame quest.[3]

Watch out: The quest says that, as written, Mewtwo is unobtainable, so the mod has no use in this pack at the moment. You can still craft the items below, but you can't run the full setup until that changes.[3]

What you're building

The Soul Laser Base is the heart of the setup. It works like a Fluid Laser Base and uses a Blue Laser Lens to pull souls out of a Mewtwo in this pack. The mod's own page describes pulling them from a Warden instead. Soul Surge blocks then spend those souls to speed up the block they point at. Soul Pipe blocks connect the two.[1][3]

What to make, in order

The quest's task list is the lens, then the base, the pipe and the surge. Here is why each one matters, in that order. All three Souls items are made in the Dissolution Chamber with recipes the pack added.[3][4]

  1. Get a Blue Laser Lens. The base needs a lens to extract souls, and the mod page's reminder is not to forget it.[1][3]
  2. Craft the Soul Laser Base. It extracts the souls everything else depends on.[1][3][4]
  3. Craft Soul Pipe blocks. They connect the base to your surges, and the quest also says souls can be extracted with them.[1][3][4]
  4. Craft a Soul Surge for each machine you want to accelerate.[1][3][4]

Setting it up

  • Leave a 3 block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base.[3]
  • Point each Soul Surge at the block you want to accelerate, then connect it to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes.[1]
  • Apply a redstone signal to a Soul Surge to stop it from working.[1]
  • Extracting souls hurts the Mewtwo and can even kill it, so the quest highly recommends Stasis Chambers, ideally with upgrades to speed up healing.[3]
Tip: By default in the mod, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes a machine 4 times faster, and the config can change this. You can also stop a block from being accelerated by adding it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls is a small add-on with one idea: pull souls out of a Warden, then spend them to speed up other blocks. Its machines are the Soul Laser Base, the Soul Pipe and the Soul Surge.[1][5]

The soul loop

  1. Extract souls from a Warden with a Soul Laser Base that has a Blue Lens installed. The project page stresses not forgetting the lens, and says the Stasis Chamber is a helpful partner here.[1]
  2. Let the souls build up in the Soul Laser Base's storage.[1]
  3. Place a Soul Surge pointing at the block you want to accelerate.[1]
  4. Connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes.[1]

To pause a Soul Surge, give it a redstone signal. If a block should never be sped up, add it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

Soul Laser Base in this pack

The pack tunes the laser to be slower but stronger. IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.MAX_PROGRESS is 30 (changed by the pack, the mod default is 20), so each operation takes longer. IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOULS_PER_OPERATION is 4 here, changed by the pack from the mod default of 2.[6]

Each operation hurts the Warden more as well: IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.DAMAGE_PER_OPERATION is 12 here (mod default 4). IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN is set to true in this pack, so the Warden is killed when its life gets near 0 instead of being kept alive.[6]

The soul tank holds up to 1,500 (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOUL_STORAGE_AMOUNT), raised by the pack from the mod default of 1,350.[6]

Watch out: Since the pack's KILL_WARDEN setting is true, a Warden feeding your laser can die. Plan your Warden supply around that.[6]

Soul Pipes

Each pipe holds 4 souls, set by IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE, the same as the mod default.[6]

Soul Surge in this pack

The project page says each soul lasts 15 seconds by default and makes the target 4 times faster. The pack shortens the soul lifetime: IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.SOUL_TIME is 200 ticks here, down from the mod default of 300.[1][6]

The pack also lowers IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.RANDOM_TICK_ACCELERATION_CHANCE to 0.025, from the mod default of 0.03.[6]

Separate options set how many extra ticks the surge gives. IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ACCELERATION_TICK covers tile entities, IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.BLOCK_ACCELERATION_TICK covers blocks and IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ENTITIES_ACCELERATION_TICK covers mobs. Each of them is 4 in this pack, the same as the mod default.[6]

Crafting

In this pack, these blocks are crafted in the Industrial Foregoing Dissolution Chamber with recipes added by the pack.[4]

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

3 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls does not have a tier ladder in this pack. It has one quest, "Industrial Foregoing &#27AEB9Souls" quest, and the quest is marked as work in progress. In the Industrial Foregoing chapter it comes after the Supreme Machine Frame quest.[3]

Watch out: The quest warns that, as of writing, Mewtwo is unobtainable, and that because of this the mod has no use at this time. You can craft the items below, but the full setup is not usable yet.[3]

What the quest asks for

The quest tasks are the Blue Laser Lens (Blue Laser Lens) from base Industrial Foregoing, plus the Soul Laser Base, the Soul Pipe and the Soul Surge from this mod.[3]

How the pieces fit together

  1. The Soul Laser Base is the heart of the setup. The quest compares it to a Fluid Laser Base extracting Ether Gas from a Wither. It uses a Blue Laser Lens to extract souls from a Mewtwo.[3]
  2. The extracted souls can be pulled out with Soul Pipes, or used with AE2.[3]
  3. Soul Surges use those souls to accelerate blocks.[3]
Tip: Extracting souls hurts the Mewtwo: it takes damage and can even die. The quest highly recommends Stasis Chambers, especially with upgrades to make the healing faster. It also says to leave a 3 block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base.[3]

Crafting the items

The pack added the recipes for all of these items, and each one is made in the Industrial Foregoing Dissolution Chamber. Here they are as the pack has them.[4]

How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work with other mods?

2 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls hooks into the rest of the pack mostly through crafting. All three of its main items are made in the Industrial Foregoing Dissolution Chamber, and the pack adds those recipes itself. That's where other mods' items come in.[4]

Dissolution Chamber recipes

The Soul Laser Base is the most demanding one. It needs a Supreme-tier Industrial Foregoing machine frame, and it also uses Unstable Portal Fluid Source from Just Dire Things. Sculk items and shared gear and plastic tags round it out.[4]

The Soul Surge uses the same Just Dire Things fluid, but only needs a Simple machine frame. That makes it a much cheaper step up.[4]

Tip: Echo Shards go into the Soul Pipe and the Soul Surge. The mod's project page says it also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, though it doesn't say how, and I can't confirm that from the pack data.[1][4]

The quest

The quest "Industrial Foregoing &#27AEB9Souls" quest sits in the Industrial Foregoing chapter and unlocks after the Supreme Machine Frame quest. Its tasks are to obtain a Blue Laser Lens, the Soul Laser Base, the Soul Pipe and the Soul Surge.[3]

The quest text describes the pack's setup. The Soul Laser Base uses a Blue Laser Lens to pull souls out of a Mewtwo, and you can carry those souls with Soul Pipes or use them with AE2. Soul Surges then spend the souls to accelerate blocks. Taking souls hurts the creature and can even kill it, so the quest strongly recommends Stasis Chambers, ideally with upgrades to speed up healing. It also tells you to leave a 3 block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base.[3]

Watch out: The quest warns that, as of writing, Mewtwo is unobtainable. That means the mod has no use in this pack at this time, and the quest is marked as a work in progress. You can still craft the items, but don't expect a working soul setup yet.[3]

This differs from the mod's own project page, which describes extracting souls from a Warden. The quest text says the pack swapped the Warden for Mewtwo.[1][3]

Which All the Mons quests use Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

3 parts

In this pack, Industrial Foregoing Souls has a single quest, found in the Industrial Foregoing chapter: "Industrial Foregoing &#27AEB9Souls" quest. It carries the tagline "Gotta go fast!" and is marked WIP. It comes after the Supreme Machine Frame quest, so that's the one to finish first.[3]

What the quest asks for

How the setup works

The Soul Laser Base is the heart of the setup. The quest compares it to a Fluid Laser Base extracting Ether Gas from a Wither. It uses the Blue Laser Lens to extract souls from a Mewtwo. You can pull those souls out with Soul Pipe, or use them with AE2.[3]

The souls are then spent by Soul Surge blocks, which accelerate other blocks. That's the "gotta go fast" part.[3]

Things to watch out for

Watch out: The quest text warns that, as of writing, Mewtwo is unobtainable. That means the mod has no use in the pack at this time.[3]
Tip: Extracting souls from a Mewtwo hurts it, and it can even die from the process. The quest strongly recommends Stasis Chambers, ideally with upgrades to make the healing faster. It also says to leave a 3 block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base.[3]

Which Industrial Foregoing: Souls config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Industrial Foregoing: Souls has two groups of options: the Soul Laser Base, which pulls souls out of a Warden, and the Soul Surge, which spends those souls to speed up machines. This pack changed most of the laser settings and two of the surge settings. Everything below comes from the pack's machines config file.[1][7]

Soul Laser Base: what the pack changed

Watch out: IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN is true in this pack, so the Warden is killed when its life gets near 0 instead of being kept alive. Combined with the higher damage per operation, plan for the Warden to die sooner than the mod's own defaults would suggest.[7]

Soul Surge: shorter souls, slightly fewer random ticks

Left at the mod default

The acceleration strength is unchanged at 4 extra ticks for each target type: IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ACCELERATION_TICK for tile entities, IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.BLOCK_ACCELERATION_TICK for blocks and IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ENTITIES_ACCELERATION_TICK for mobs. IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE is also still 4, so each Soul Pipe holds 4 souls.[7]

Tip: Since the surge strength is unchanged, the pack's tuning is mostly about how many souls you get, how fast the laser works, and how long each soul lasts. Plan your soul supply around the 200-tick soul time rather than the longer default.[7]

Unverified The mod's project page lists a default of false for the Warden-kill option, but the pack's config file does not mark that option as changed, so whether the pack actually differs from the mod default there is unconfirmed.

What changed in Industrial Foregoing: Souls between versions?

All the Mons 1.0.0-rc.4 ships Industrial Foregoing: Souls 1.10.7, using the file industrial-foregoing-souls-1.21.1-1.10.7.jar. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the modpack.[2]

Unverified The specific changes made in Industrial Foregoing: Souls 1.10.7 and earlier versions couldn't be confirmed from the material available for this guide. No pack changelog entries for this mod were provided either, so no pack-specific changes to it are listed here.
