What is Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More)?

1 part

Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More) adds utility items to Cobblemon for a better experience. This pack runs version 1.7.2 of it.[1][2]

The mod's best-known items are the bottlecaps, which change a Cobblemon's IVs. The Golden Cap boosts all IVs to max, Silver Caps max out one particular IV, the Wooden Cap randomizes IVs, the Void Cap sets IVs to 0, and Obsidian Caps lower one particular IV by 1.[1]

There are also some handy extras. The Shiny Card switches a Cobblemon's shiny status, the Transmutation Orb switches its gender if applicable, and the Void Feather sets EVs to 0. The Poke Treat raises Friendship, and the Master Candy sets level to 100. The Cobblemax maxes level, IVs and Friendship, while the Cobblemin minimizes them.[1]

Where the quest book puts it

The only item from this mod that the pack's quest book covers is the Devolution Relic. It has its own quest, a quest in "Evolution", in the "Evolution" chapter, which has 33 quests in total.[3]

The relic quest sits at the end of a chain that starts with the level cap and trainer quests from Radical Cobblemon Trainers. The quest before it is "Evolve your Pokemon" quest, which explains how to evolve your Pokemon from the Team screen. That quest in turn comes after "Beat that Trainer!" quest. None of the other quests in the chapter list the relic quest as their prerequisite, so it closes this chain.[3]

The quest explains that evolving a Pokemon takes a lot of effort, but if you want to devolve one you just give it the relic. It does not work on first-stage Pokemon, since there is nothing earlier for them to turn back into.[3]

The mod's own description lists the Devolution Relic as the item that devolves a Cobblemon.[1]

Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here. That detail lives in the pack's quest book, in the ATM Star quest chapters.

How do you get started with Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More)?

5 parts

Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More) adds utility items to Cobblemon so you can tweak your team: IVs, EVs, friendship, level, gender and more. Here is the order I'd craft things in, and what each one is for.[1][4]

Step 1: the Wooden Cap

Start with the Wooden Cap. It randomizes a Cobblemon's IVs, and its recipe is the mod's own, which the pack leaves unchanged.[4][5]

Step 2: the Silver Caps

Next, make Silver Caps. Each one sets a single IV to 31, and there is one per stat. The pack changed all of these recipes, so don't trust a recipe you remember from the mod's own page. For example, the Atk Silver Cap sets Attack to 31.[4][5]

Step 3: friendship

The Poké Treat increases a Cobblemon's friendship, and one craft gives you 2 of them. Its sibling, the Stale Poké Treat, does the opposite and decreases friendship.[4][5]

Step 4: resetting stats

When you want a clean slate, the Void Feather sets a Cobblemon's EVs to 0. The cobblemon_utility:voidcap sets its IVs to 0.[4]

Watch out: Some items here lower stats. The Obsidian Caps (for example Atk Obsidian Cap) set one IV to 0, the Void Cap sets all IVs to 0, and the Void Feather sets EVs to 0. Check which item you are holding before you use it on a Cobblemon you care about.[4]

Step 5: the extras

The Ball Synchronizer is used by right clicking a Cobblemon that has the Poké Ball you want in its item slot. The pack changed its recipe.[4][5]

Finally, the Devolution Relic forces a Cobblemon to devolve, and the pack changed its recipe as well. The quest book covers it in the Evolution chapter, in a quest in "Evolution", which comes right after "Evolve your Pokemon" quest. The quest notes that it doesn't work on first-stage Pokemon.[3][4][5]

How does Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More) work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 0.9.0-beta guide

Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More) adds utility items to Cobblemon. In this pack its mechanics are item-based: each item changes one thing about a Cobblemon, such as an IV, its EVs, its level, its friendship, its gender or its Poké ball. Everything below comes from the item descriptions in the mod's own language file and the pack's recipe list.[1][4]

IV caps

The caps are the mod's IV tools. Silver caps set one specific IV to 31, and there is one for each stat: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed. Obsidian caps do the opposite and set one specific IV to 0. For example, Atk Silver Cap sets Attack to 31 and Atk Obsidian Cap sets Attack to 0.[4]

The other caps work on all IVs at once. cobblemon_utility:voidcap sets every IV to 0. The Golden Cap sets every IV to 31, and the Wooden Cap randomizes them.[4]

The silver cap recipes were changed by the pack, so they are not the mod's defaults. The Attack one is shown here as an example. The obsidian cap recipes and the Void Cap recipe are the mod's own, and an obsidian cap recipe makes 2 caps per craft.[6]

Friendship and level

Poké Treat increases a Cobblemon's friendship, and Stale Poké Treat decreases it. The Stale Poké Treat is crafted from a Poké Treat, and one craft makes 2. Common Candy reduces a Cobblemon's level by 1, and one craft makes 4. The Master Candy goes the other way and sets a level to 100.[4][6]

Cobblemin and Cobblemax

Cobblemin minimizes a Cobblemon's level, IVs and friendship in one go. Cobblemax is the reverse and maximizes those same stats. The Cobblemin recipe is shapeless and uses other items from this mod, so it ties into the caps, treats and candies above. One craft makes 2.[4][6]

Evolution, gender, ball and shiny tools

Devolution Relic forces a Cobblemon to devolve. Transmutation Orb switches a Cobblemon's gender, and the project page notes this only applies where a gender switch is possible. The Shiny Card switches a Cobblemon's shiny status.[1][4]

Ball Synchronizer changes a Cobblemon's Poké ball to match the ball in its item slot. To use it, put the Poké ball you want in the Cobblemon's item slot, then right click the Cobblemon with the synchronizer.[1][4]

The pack changed the Devolution Relic and Ball Synchronizer recipes from the mod's versions. The Transmutation Orb recipe is the mod's own.[6]

How do you progress through Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More)?

4 parts

Cobblemon Utility+ doesn't have a questline of its own in this pack. The quest source here shows one quest that asks for an item from the mod, so most of your progression with it comes down to the crafting recipes. They fall into a few families, and I'll walk through them below.[3][5]

The cap families

The caps come in four families by name: Wooden, Silver, Obsidian and Void. The sources here don't say what each cap does or how the families rank against each other, so I'm only covering how you craft them.[5]

The Wooden Cap is the plain entry point, and its recipe is the mod's own.[5]

The Silver caps are where the pack steps in. There is one for each stat: Atk, Def, HP, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def and Speed, and all of their recipes are changed by the pack. Here is the Atk one as an example, Atk Silver Cap. The others follow the same pattern for their own stat.[5]

The Obsidian caps cover the same stats and keep the mod's own recipes. Each craft gives you 2 caps, for example Atk Obsidian Cap.[5]

Where the quest book fits in

The quest that asks for something from this mod is a quest in "Evolution", in the Evolution chapter. It comes after "Evolve your Pokemon" quest, which comes after "Beat that Trainer!" quest. Before those you pass through "Level Caps" quest, "Series" quest and a quest in "Evolution". So you reach the relic after you've dealt with Radical Cobblemon Trainers and learned how evolving works in the pack.[3]

The quest asks for the Devolution Relic. You give it to a Pokemon to devolve it, and it doesn't work on first-stage Pokemon, since there is nothing earlier to go back to. The pack changed this recipe too.[3][5]

How does Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More) work with other mods?

3 parts

Cobblemon Utility+ is built on top of Cobblemon. In this pack, the recipes that make its items lean on Cobblemon's own items, plus a few vanilla materials, so crafting with this mod means gathering things from the base mod too.[5]

Stat caps and mint leaves

The silver and obsidian caps each belong to one stat, and each stat's recipe uses a different Cobblemon mint leaf. The exception is HP, whose caps use Revival Herb instead. So your Cobblemon mint supply decides which caps you can make.[5]

Silver caps boost one particular IV to max, and obsidian caps lower one particular IV by 1. The silver cap recipes are changed by the pack, and they accept any item tagged as a diamond gem or an iron ingot. The obsidian cap recipes are the mod's own, and each craft gives you 2 caps.[1][5]

The obsidian caps are the mod's own recipe and make 2 per craft.

The cobblemon_utility:voidcap sets IVs to 0, and its recipe uses a Cobblemon mint leaf too. It also feeds the Cobblemin recipe, which uses a Cobblemon Poké Ball alongside other Utility+ items and makes 2 Cobblemin per craft. Cobblemin minimizes a Cobblemon's level, IVs and Friendship.[1][5]

Transmutation Orb and the Moon Stone

The Transmutation Orb switches a Cobblemon's gender if applicable. Its recipe in this pack uses the Cobblemon Moon Stone together with vanilla items, so the same stone you use for evolutions is also a crafting ingredient here.[1][5]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
Empty slotEnder PearlEmpty slot
Ender PearlGlass BottleEnder Pearl
Empty slotMoon StoneEmpty slot

Recipe id: cobblemon_utility:transmutation_orb_moon

The quest book helps you find that stone. "Finding Moon Stones" quest says Moon Stones are found in Taigas and Dripstone Caves, and "Moon Stone" quest comes after it and covers what the stone evolves.[3]

Where it sits in the quest book

The only Utility+ item in the quests I can see is the Devolution Relic, in a quest in "Evolution". It sits in the "Evolution" chapter, after the "Evolve your Pokemon" quest. The quest text says that if you want to devolve a Pokemon, you just give it this item, and that it doesn't work on first evolution Pokemon to find negative evolutions.[3]

The same chapter also covers evolution stones, trading evolutions, and level caps. "Level Caps" quest explains that Radical Cobblemon Trainers makes you beat a certain trainer before a Pokemon's level cap is unlocked and it can evolve.[3]

Which All the Mons quests use Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More)?

2 parts

Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More) shows up in the quest book exactly once, at the very end of the Evolution chapter. The quest hands you the Devolution Relic, so you get the item through the quest book rather than hunting for it yourself.[3]

The Devolution Relic quest

The quest a quest in "Evolution" asks you to submit the Devolution Relic. Its text explains that evolving a Pokemon takes quite a few steps, so it is hard to do by accident. If you want to go the other way and devolve a Pokemon, you just give it this item.[3]

There is one catch the quest mentions: the relic does not work on first-stage Pokemon, because there is no earlier form for them to go back to.[3]

What comes before it

The Devolution Relic quest is unlocked after "Evolve your Pokemon" quest, which sits at the end of a chain that leans on Radical Cobblemon Trainers for its level caps. Here is the route from the start of that chain:[3]

  1. "Level Caps" quest is a custom task. It explains that Radical Trainers means you must beat a certain trainer before your level cap goes up, so you need a Trainer Card and a Trainer Associate (the quest says they were most common in Villages).[3]
  2. "Series" quest asks for the Trainer Card. Trainer Associates are Villagers, and you can trade a Trainer Card to one of them for a Series.[3]
  3. a quest in "Evolution" asks for the Trainer Spawner. You place a Signature Item in it, give it a Redstone signal, and the Series trainer appears in front of you.[3]
  4. "Beat that Trainer!" quest is an advancement task: go and beat that trainer.[3]
  5. "Evolve your Pokemon" quest is a custom task. Open your Team with M, pick the Pokemon, and click the Evolve button under its picture.[3]
  6. a quest in "Evolution" closes the chain with the Devolution Relic.[3]

The Series quest also leads to a side branch, a quest in "Evolution", which asks for the Trainer Repel Rod. It is not part of the route to the relic.[3]

Tip: Don't expect to get the relic early. You have to work through the level cap and trainer battles first, so focus on getting your Pokemon evolved before you start thinking about devolving one.[3]

What changed in Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More) between versions?

1 part

All the Mons 0.6.0-beta ships Cobblemon Utility+ (IVs, EVs, & More) version 1.7.2. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[2]

Version 1.7.2

  • Fixed the Wooden Bottlecap recipe. This is the only change listed in the mod's 1.7.2 changelog.[7]

That is the version you get in this pack, so the fixed recipe is the one you will see in 0.6.0-beta. The changelog gives no other details about the fix.[2][7]
