What is Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
3 parts
Radical Cobblemon Trainers adds over 1,500 trainers to your world, taken from the ROM hacks Radical Red and Unbound and from Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. They spawn naturally, with different trainers in different biomes. This pack includes version 0.18.1-beta of the mod.[1][2]
It also changes how your team levels. Pokémon in your party that are below the current level cap gain no EXP until you defeat the next key trainer, such as a gym leader. That makes this mod the pack's main progression gate for your Pokémon levels. It is for you if you want real battles and a story to work through.[1][3]
How you get started
- Get a Trainer Card. You can craft one or trade for one with a Trainer Associate (see "Evolution" quest).[3]
- Hold the card out while you have no series. Trainer Associates are villagers: they spawn around you in that case, and they also spawn in villages. When one is close, the card glows and an arrow points to it.[3][4]
- Give the card to the Trainer Associate to receive a series. It tells you which trainer to beat to raise your level cap.[3][4]
- Right-click the card to see the trainers you have fought and the trainers in your series, with their names, level caps and spawn biomes.[4]
Series in this pack
- Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is the Sinnoh campaign. You need to get through it to unlock other series, including the ATM series.[5]
- Radical Red is an optional series, and it is much harder than the original story.[6]
- Unbound is an optional series that comes after you beat BDSP and Radical Red.[7]
- Content Creators is an optional series where you fight YouTubers, streamers and helpers.[8]
- The ATM Team Series has you beat members of the ATM Team to get the items for crafting the Shiny Pika Star, which is how you officially beat AllTheMons.[9]
Handy tools
The Trainer Spawner summons a specific series trainer in front of you when it gets a Redstone signal, once you place that trainer's Signature Item in it. The Trainer Repel Rod stops trainers spawning near it when you place it down.[4]
How do you get started with Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
5 parts
Welcome to Radical Cobblemon Trainers! This mod adds trainers to the world and changes how high your Pokemon can level. Your level cap stays put until you defeat a certain trainer, so everything starts with one item: the Trainer Card.[1][3]
Step 1: Make a Trainer Card
The Trainer Card tracks your progress, shows information about trainers, and helps you find the next key trainer when they spawn nearby. You can craft it or trade a Trainer Associate for one. The pack changed this recipe, so use the one below rather than a mod default.[1][3][11]

Step 2: Find a Trainer Associate and pick a Series
Trainer Associates are Villagers. Hold your Trainer Card out while it has no Series set, or walk near a Village, and they will show up. When one is close enough, the card glows like it's enchanted and an arrow above it points to the Associate.[3][4]
Hand the card to the Associate and you get it back with a Series set. The Series tells you which trainer to beat to raise your level cap. If you beat a trainer with a higher level cap in your Series, your cap goes up.[3][4]
- Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is the Sinnoh campaign. You need to get through it to unlock other Series, including the ATM Team Series.[5]
- Radical Red, Unbound and Content Creators are optional Series, started the same way by trading with a Trainer Associate.[6][7][8]
- The quest for Unbound lists Beat BDSP and Beat Radical Red as prerequisites.[7]
Quest: "Series" quest covers how Associates hand out the card and Series.[4]
Step 3: Right-click your card
Right-click the Trainer Card to see every trainer you've fought, or the trainers in your current Series. Each trainer shows a name and level cap, and the right arrow lists the biomes they spawn in. Series trainer names look random until you view them.[4]
Step 4: Craft a Trainer Spawner
Wandering around to find one specific trainer takes a long time. The Trainer Spawner fixes that. Where you see a Series trainer's biomes, you'll also find a Signature Item. Place that item in the Spawner, give it a Redstone signal, and the trainer appears in front of you, ready to battle. The pack changed this recipe too.[4][11]

Step 5: Craft a Trainer Repel Rod
If trainers keep spawning where you don't want them, place a Trainer Repel Rod and they won't spawn near it. It doesn't stop Trainer Spawners from working. The pack changed this recipe as well.[4][10][11]

How does Radical Cobblemon Trainers work?
4 parts
In this pack, the mod's core systems are trainer spawning and the level cap that gates your progression. The sources here describe no machines, multiblocks or automation for it. The mod adds over 1500 trainers that spawn naturally in your world. Most of how it works is controlled from Spawning.spawnIntervalTicks and the other options in the server config.[1][12]
How trainers spawn
The mod makes one spawn attempt per player every 180 ticks, set by Spawning.spawnIntervalTicks. Whether an attempt goes ahead depends on Spawning.globalSpawnChance, which is 0.85 in this pack.[12]
The more trainers you already have around you, the lower that chance gets. It shrinks toward Spawning.globalSpawnChanceMinimum, which is 0.1. You only hit that minimum when there's one free spot left under your cap.[12]
The pack lowers Spawning.maxTrainersPerPlayer to 8, where the mod default is 12. The overall cap, Spawning.maxTrainersTotal, stays at 60.[12]
- Distance: trainers spawn at least 25 blocks away horizontally (Spawning.minHorizontalDistanceToPlayers) and at most 70 blocks away (Spawning.maxHorizontalDistanceToPlayers). Vertically the limit is 30 blocks (Spawning.maxVerticalDistanceToPlayers).[12]
- Despawning: a non-persistent trainer despawns if it has had no line of sight to any player for 6000 ticks (Spawning.despawnTicksIfUnseen). A negative value turns this off.[12]
- Biomes and dimensions: the biome tag and dimension whitelists and blacklists are all empty in this pack, so they don't restrict anything. They are Spawning.biomeTagWhitelist, Spawning.biomeTagBlacklist, Spawning.dimensionWhitelist and Spawning.dimensionBlacklist.[12]
Level difference and the Trainer Card
Spawning.maxLevelDiff is 25 here. It limits how far a trainer's strongest Pokémon can be above your strongest one, counted at or below your level cap. The allowed difference scales linearly with your level relative to 100 and won't go below 4. For example, at level 20 the result is 5. Key trainers are an exception and can always spawn up to the configured difference. Spawn weight drops as the level difference grows.[12]
In this pack, Spawning.spawningRequiresTrainerCard is on. Trainers only spawn naturally around players carrying a Trainer Card in their inventory. This doesn't affect trainer spawners.[1][12]
The Trainer Card also helps you track your progress and look up information about trainers. It can point you to the next key trainer when one spawns nearby.[1]
Level cap and series
Your Pokémon can't gain experience once they are at or above your level cap. You lift the cap by defeating the next key trainer, such as a leader. The cap follows the strongest Pokémon on the next required trainer's team in your series, plus Players.relativeLevelCap, which is 0 in this pack.[1][12]
- Players.initialLevelCap is 15, the same as the mod default.[12]
- Players.allowOverLeveling is off, so the level cap does stop experience gain.[12]
- Players.initialSeries is "empty", so you start without a series. You pick a journey by seeking out the Trainer Association.[1][12]
- The freeroam series grants a level cap of 100 and lets you pause your current series. With Players.freeroamRequiresCompletedSeries on, you must complete another series first to get access to it.[12]

The pack changes the recipes of the Trainer Card, the Trainer Repel Rod and the Trainer Spawner. The blocks below show each in-pack recipe.[11]

How do you progress through Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
3 parts
Progression with Radical Cobblemon Trainers works through level caps. The mod changes how high your Pokémon can level until you defeat a certain Trainer, and the pack's quests walk you through it. Everything starts with the Trainer Card.[3]
Step 1: Get a Trainer Card and a Series
You can craft a Trainer Card or trade for one with a Trainer Associate. This pack changed the Trainer Card recipe, so use the one below.[3][11]
Crafting Shaped
| any redstone dust | ||
Recipe id: rctmod:trainer_card
This is the pack's changed Trainer Card recipe.
Trainer Associates are Villagers. They spawn around you when you hold a Trainer Card and don't have a Series, and they also spawn in Villages. When one is close, the card glows like it's enchanted and an arrow above it points to the Associate.[3][4]
Give the Associate your card and you get a Series back. The Series tells you which Trainer to defeat to raise your level cap. Right-click the card to see the Trainers you've fought, or the Trainer in your Series, including their name and level cap. Beat a Trainer with a higher level cap in your Series and your own level cap goes up. The quest "Series" quest covers this.[3][4]
Series order
- Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl ("Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl" quest) is the Sinnoh campaign. You start it like any other Series by trading with a Trainer Associate. You need to get through it to unlock other Series, including the ATM Series.[5]
- Radical Red ("Radical Red" quest) is an optional Series that follows the Pokémon Red story, only much harder. You start it by trading your card to a Trainer Associate.[6]
- Unbound ("Unbound" quest) is optional and comes after the BDSP and Radical Red quests. It has a new story and uses the same mechanics as Firered. Hand your card to a Trainer Associate and you get it back set to Unbound.[7]
- Content Creators ("Content Creators" quest) is an optional Series where you fight YouTubers, Streamers and Helpers. You start it by giving a Trainer Associate your card and picking Content Creator Series.[8]
- The ATM Team Series ("ATM Team Series" quest) has you beat the ATM Team members to get the items for crafting the Shiny Pika Star, which is how you officially beat AllTheMons.[9]
Team members turn up in 3 different ways. Some spawn in their Custom Gyms, some wander and have Signature Items to summon them, and the rest spawn in the Elite Gym.[9]
Tools for hunting Trainers
Finding a specific Trainer by wandering biomes can take forever. The Trainer Spawner fixes that. Look up the Signature Item for a Series Trainer, place it in the Spawner, and give the Spawner a Redstone signal. That Trainer appears in front of you, ready to battle. The quest is a quest in "Evolution".[4]

Which All the Mons quests use Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
5 parts
Most of the quests for this mod ask you to hold the Trainer Card. You start with the basics, move into the Series campaigns, then pick up a few utility quests for spawning or repelling Trainers. Here is the order the quest book lays them out in.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
Getting started
The first stop is the "Evolution" quest quest in the Getting Started chapter. It unlocks after the Leveling up your Pokemon quest and asks you to get a Trainer Card, either by crafting it or by trading with a Trainer Associate. The quest explains that the mod changes how high your Pokemon's levels can go until you defeat a certain Trainer. Associates spawn near you when you hold the card out without a Series set, or when you're near a Village. The card glows when one is close and an arrow points the way.[3]
The Evolution chapter
This chapter opens with "Series" quest, which comes after a Level Caps quest and asks for a Trainer Card. You give a card to a Trainer Associate to get a Series. Right-clicking the card shows the Trainers you've fought and the Trainer in your Series, with their names and Level Caps. Beating a Trainer with a higher Level Cap in your Series raises your own cap.[4]
After Series, the chapter continues with utility quests:[4]
- a quest in "Evolution" asks for a Trainer Spawner. You place a Trainer's Signature Item in it, then give it a Redstone signal to make that Series Trainer appear in front of you.[4]
- a quest in "Evolution" asks for a Trainer Repel Rod. Place it down and Trainers won't spawn near it.[4]
Series campaigns
"Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl" quest is the Sinnoh campaign. You start it like any other Series: find a Trainer Associate in a Village, or hold out a card with no Series set so one spawns, then trade to begin it. The quest says you need to get through it to unlock other Series, including the ATM Series.[5]
The optional Series each ask for a Trainer Card and are started by handing it to a Trainer Associate:[6][7][8]
- "Radical Red" quest is an optional Series based on a ROM hack of Pokemon Red that follows the same story, just much harder, so expect a tough one.[6]
- "Unbound" quest is also optional. It comes after the Beat BDSP and Beat Radical Red quests, and your card comes back set to Unbound.[7]
- "Content Creators" quest is an optional Series that lets you fight Youtubers, Streamers and Helpers. You select the Content Creator Series when you give the Trainer Associate your card.[8]
The ATM Team
"ATM Team Series" quest asks for a Trainer Card and has you beat members of the ATM Team. There are 3 ways to find them: some spawn in their Custom Gyms, some wander and need Signature Items to summon them, and the rest spawn in the Elite Gym. You need to beat every member to get the items for crafting the Shiny Pika Star, which the quest says is how you officially beat the pack.[9]
Tips and Poke Tricks
The "Trainer Repel Rod" quest quest shows up in this chapter too and asks for a Trainer Repel Rod. The quest text says it doesn't tell you the size of the area the rod disables. It does say the rod won't stop Trainer Spawners from working.[10]
Which Radical Cobblemon Trainers config options matter?
5 parts
The options below all live in config/rctmod-server.toml. Only one of them is marked as changed from the mod default in this pack, and then there's a handful of settings worth knowing about.[12]
The one value the pack changed
Spawning.maxTrainersPerPlayer is set to 8 in this pack. The mod default is 12. This is the spawn cap of trainers per player, so you'll see fewer naturally spawned trainers around you at once than the mod would normally give you.[12]
Level cap and progression
- Players.initialLevelCap is 15, the same as the mod default. Pokemon at or above the cap gain no experience.[12]
- Players.relativeLevelCap is 0. The cap is based on the strongest Pokemon of your next required trainer in a series, and this value is added on top of it (it can be negative).[12]
- Players.allowOverLeveling is false, so the level cap does stop your Pokemon from gaining experience.[12]
- Players.initialSeries is "empty", so you start a new world with no series.[12]
- Players.freeroamRequiresCompletedSeries is true. You must complete another series before you can get the freeroam series (level cap of 100) through the trade at the trainer association.[12]
Spawning
- Spawning.spawningRequiresTrainerCard is true. Trainers only spawn naturally around players carrying a trainer card, and trainer spawners aren't affected.[12]
- Spawning.spawnTrainerAssociation is true, so a Trainer Association NPC can spawn near card carriers who haven't started a series or have completed their current one. One can also appear near villages.[12]
- A spawn attempt happens every 180 ticks (Spawning.spawnIntervalTicks). As your cap fills, that stretches towards 2,400 ticks (Spawning.spawnIntervalTicksMaximum).[12]
- Spawning.globalSpawnChance is 0.85 and shrinks towards 0.1 (Spawning.globalSpawnChanceMinimum) as your trainer slots fill up.[12]
- Trainers spawn between 25 blocks (Spawning.minHorizontalDistanceToPlayers) and 70 blocks (Spawning.maxHorizontalDistanceToPlayers) away horizontally, and up to 30 blocks away vertically (Spawning.maxVerticalDistanceToPlayers).[12]
- Spawning.despawnTicksIfUnseen is 6,000. Non-persistent trainers with no line of sight to any player for that long will despawn.[12]
- Spawning.maxLevelDiff is 25. It limits how much stronger a trainer's best Pokemon can be than yours for them to spawn for you, and it scales with your level.[12]
- Spawning.uniqueTrainerRadius is 5. Instead of blocking a trainer if the same one exists anywhere in the world, the mod only checks within that radius.[12]
- The biome and dimension whitelists and blacklists (Spawning.biomeTagWhitelist, Spawning.biomeTagBlacklist, Spawning.dimensionWhitelist, Spawning.dimensionBlacklist) are all empty, so no restrictions are applied.[12]
Battles on sight
Trainers.forceBattleOnSight is true, so trainers can force a battle when you look at each other. It takes 60 ticks of staring (Trainers.forceBattleLookTicks), from up to 8 blocks away (Trainers.forceBattleMaxDistance), and only if the level difference is at most 16 (Trainers.forceBattleMaxLevelDiff). The look time, distance and level difference all match the mod defaults.[12]
Debug logging
Debug.logSpawning and Debug.logRepelRods are both false. Turn them on if you're troubleshooting why trainers do or don't spawn, since they print extra info to the log.[12]
What changed in Radical Cobblemon Trainers between versions?
4 parts
All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Radical Cobblemon Trainers 0.18.1-beta, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]
0.18.1-beta (2026-04-12)
- Fixed a crash related to certain series constellations.[13]
- Since version 0.18.0-beta, the mod may only be redistributed under the terms of the MCOML License.[13]
0.17.7-beta (2026-03-19)
- The Trainer Repel Rod was reworked into a block entity. Repel rod positions are no longer saved separately, and each rod registers itself on its first tick, which is when its chunk is loaded.[14]
- The rework possibly fixes the earlier reports of repel rods randomly stopping to work. The changelog says the bug was never confirmed, so that is an assumption.[14]
- The Trainer Repel Rod now connects to redstone dust.[14]
- Added a debug config option, logRepelRods, which turns on extra logging about trainer repel rods.[14]
- Fixed trainers being able to spawn outside a player's simulation distance, which caused chunks to load and performance issues.[14]
0.17.6-beta (2026-01-29)
- Fixed the new nbt argument in the trainer summon commands not being optional, as it was supposed to be.[15]
0.17.4-beta (2025-11-30)
- Trainers no longer force a player into a battle while that player is actively looking into a container. Your own player inventory does not count as a container here.[16]
- Fixed Pokemon belonging to players attacking trainers that are targeting or looking at their owners.[16]
- Removed the ability to summon trainer entities with /summon. Use /rctmod trainer summon instead.[16]
