What is Waystones?
1 part
Waystones lets you teleport from one waystone block to another. Once you've activated a waystone, you can return to it later. You activate one with a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping to it from an existing waystone.[1]
The mod also adds Warp Plates, a waystone structure that can generate in villages, and global waystones that every player can use, which suits community hubs or sharing with friends. There's an optional inventory button for warping without extra items, and it is configurable. The mod's own description pitches it as an alternative to /warp and /home commands on servers.[1]
In this pack you get Waystones 14.1.21 for Minecraft 1.20.1, first included in version 0.0.45.4 or earlier. The mod needs Balm installed alongside it, and the pack's mod list is where you can check that.[1][2]
In the quest book
The quest a quest in "Useful mods and Items" lives in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 in the book and holds 37 quests. The quest's own description reads "A way to teleport between dimensions", and its task is to obtain a Waystone.[3]
Other quests in that chapter cover utility mods such as "The Compasses" quest, "Magnet" quest and "Construction Wand" quest.[3]
How do you get started with Waystones?
5 parts
Waystones lets you activate waystone blocks and then return to them later. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop to the next one. The pack's quest book has a a quest in "Useful mods and Items" quest in the chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44), described as a way to teleport between dimensions. It asks you for the Waystone.[1][3]
First, make a Warp Stone
Start with the Warp Stone. It is a rechargeable teleport item, and it is also a component in the recipes for the Waystone and several other waystone blocks, so you need it before anything else.[1][4]

Using one means holding right-click while it charges. In this pack that charge time is 32 ticks (cooldowns.warpStoneUseTime), and the cooldown between uses is 30 seconds (cooldowns.warpStoneCooldown). The cooldown is tied to you, not to the item, so several Warp Stones share it.[5][6]
Next, craft your first Waystone
Now craft the Waystone itself and place it at your base. Activating a waystone makes it a destination you can return to. The pack also has Black, Deepslate, Ender, Mossy and Sandy variants, each with its own recipe.[1][4]

You may also find waystones in the world. The pack has them spawning in villages (worldGen.spawnInVillages is true), and freely generated ones are placed roughly every 25 chunks (worldGen.frequency). Their style depends on the biome (worldGen.worldGenStyle is set to BIOME).[6]
Then, craft Warp Scrolls
One craft of the Warp Scroll gives you 3 scrolls. Hold right-click to use one. The charge-up is 32 ticks in this pack (cooldowns.scrollUseTime).[4][6]

Finally, start hopping
The pack keeps restrictions.allowWaystoneToWaystoneTeleport set to true, so you can teleport between waystones by right-clicking one. Dimensional warping is set to ALLOW (restrictions.dimensionalWarp).[6]
The pack sets the XP multipliers for waystone, warp stone, portstone, sharestone and warp plate travel to 0 (for example xpCost.waystoneXpCostMultiplier). The base XP cost for travelling between dimensions is 3 levels (xpCost.dimensionalWarpXpCost).[6]
Where to go next
Once the basics work, the mod also has the Warp Plate, the Portstone and the Sharestone. Their in-pack recipes are shown below.[4][5]

How does Waystones work?
6 parts
Waystones is a teleport network. You activate a waystone once, and from then on you can return to it. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop to the next. The sources here describe no machines, power or fluids for this mod, so everything below is about how the teleporting works and how this pack tunes it.[1]
Ways to travel
- Waystone to waystone: in this pack restrictions.allowWaystoneToWaystoneTeleport is on, so you can teleport between waystones by right-clicking one. If that is off, you just get the message "You touch the waystone, but nothing happens."[5][6]
- Scrolls: you hold right-click to charge a scroll. The charge-up is 32 ticks, set by cooldowns.scrollUseTime. A scroll that is not bound to a waystone tells you so when you try to use it.[5][6]
- Warp Stone: it also charges while you hold right-click, for 32 ticks (cooldowns.warpStoneUseTime). If you let go early you get "The Warp Stone is not fully charged yet." After a use there is a 30 second cooldown (cooldowns.warpStoneCooldown). It belongs to the player, not the item, so carrying several stones does not get around it.[5][6]
- Inventory button: this is a configurable button that warps you without any additional items. Its cooldown in this pack is 300 seconds (cooldowns.inventoryButtonCooldown). The mode option (inventoryButton.inventoryButton) accepts NONE, NEAREST (nearest waystone), ANY (opens the waystone selection menu) or a specific waystone name. The pack's config file sets the mode to an empty value.[1][6]
- Warp Plate: you stand on top of it for 20 ticks (cooldowns.warpPlateUseTime).[6]

Warp Plates and Attuned Shards
A Warp Plate teleports you to another warp plate. The game tells you if the plate is not bound to another warp plate yet, or if the shard inside it has lost its attunement. The Attuned Shard and Crumbling Attuned Shard are both made with a crafting type named after the warp plate, shown below.[4][5]

Sharestones and Portstones
The pack has separate settings for teleporting from one sharestone to another and for teleporting from a Portstone. Sharestones come in a plain Sharestone and dyed versions such as Blue Sharestone and Gray Sharestone.[4][6]

XP cost
Travel cost is based on distance. In this pack xpCost.blocksPerXpLevel is 1,000 blocks per level. The base cost has a minimum of 0 (xpCost.minimumBaseXpCost) and a maximum of 3 (xpCost.maximumBaseXpCost). Travelling between dimensions has its own base cost of 3 levels, which ignores distance (xpCost.dimensionalWarpXpCost).[6]
The pack sets every cost multiplier to 0. That covers waystones, Warp Stones, warp plates, sharestones, portstones, the inventory button, global waystones and each leashed animal that travels with you. Each multiplier scales the base cost, so these methods end up scaled down to 0 in this pack.[6]
Rules set by the pack
- Dimensional warp is set to ALLOW, and both the allow list and the deny list are empty, so no dimension is blocked.[6]
- Leashed mobs teleport with you, including between dimensions. Only the wither is on the deny list (restrictions.leashedDenyList).[6]
- Making a waystone global (available to all players) requires creative mode in this pack. The global cooldown multiplier is 1.[1][6]
- Anyone can rename a waystone, because renaming is not restricted to the owner. Placing and breaking is not limited to creative players either.[6]
How do you progress through Waystones?
6 parts
The pack's quest book has one quest for Waystones: a quest in "Useful mods and Items", in the chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44, 37 quests). Its description reads "A way to teleport between dimensions", and its only task is to get a Waystone.[3]
The quest book doesn't go beyond that one item. Everything below comes from the pack's recipe list for the mod. Every one of those recipes is listed as a mod recipe, so the pack isn't shown changing any of them.[3][4]
Step 1: Warp Dust and Warp Stone
Everything starts with the Warp Stone. It is the base item for the Waystone, the other waystone blocks, the Sharestone and the Portstone.[4]

Warp Dust is a separate crafting step, and one craft gives you 4 of them. You'll need it later for the Warp Plate and the Attuned Shard.[4]
Step 2: The Waystone, which is what the quest asks for
Craft the Waystone to complete the quest.[3][4]

Waystone variants
The pack also has other waystone blocks: Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Deepslate Waystone, Black Waystone and Ender Waystone. The quest only asks for the plain Waystone, so these are optional. Their in-pack recipes are shown below.[3][4]

How does Waystones work with other mods?
2 parts
Waystones only connects to other mods in one place that the pack's recipes and quests confirm: the pack's custom recipe for Tyrian Steel Ingot.[4]
Warp Dust in Tyrian Steel
The pack adds its own shaped crafting recipe for Tyrian Steel Ingot, and one of its ingredients is Warp Dust from Waystones. The other ingredients come from elsewhere: Azure Electrum Ingot and Crimson Steel Ingot, vanilla Netherite Scrap, and the Thermal Extra dusts Abyssal Dust, Dragonsteel Dust and Twinite Dust. One craft gives you 4 ingots.[4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/tyrian_steel_ingot
This recipe is added by the pack and uses Warp Dust from Waystones.
This is a pack change, not something Waystones does by itself. The mod page describes waystones, warp scrolls and the warp stone, and does not mention Tyrian Steel.[1][4]
In the quest book
The a quest in "Useful mods and Items" quest sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 in the book. It describes the waystone as a way to teleport between dimensions, and its only task is to have a Waystone. No quest in the sources asks for items from Waystones and another mod together.[3]
Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Waystones?
Waystones shows up in just one quest chapter in this pack: "Useful mods and Items". It's chapter 3 of 44 in the quest book and holds 37 quests, mostly one-item showcases of handy mods.[3]
The quest is a quest in "Useful mods and Items". Its description reads "A way to teleport between dimensions", and it has a single task: get a Waystone.[3]
In the chapter's quest list, it sits right after "Cakes" quest and right before "The Compasses" quest. Nothing else in the chapter asks for a Waystones item, so this is the only Waystones quest you need to do.[3]
Which Waystones config options matter?
5 parts
Waystones is configured in one file, config/waystones-common.toml. Here is how this pack sets the options you are most likely to care about. The values below are the pack's own.[6]
XP costs
Travel cost is where this pack is most distinctive. xpCost.maximumBaseXpCost is 3 and xpCost.minimumBaseXpCost is 0, so the distance-based base cost stays between those two. xpCost.blocksPerXpLevel is 1,000, and xpCost.dimensionalWarpXpCost is 3 for travelling between dimensions, which ignores block distance.[6]
Every multiplier applied to that base cost is set to 0. That covers xpCost.waystoneXpCostMultiplier, xpCost.warpStoneXpCostMultiplier, xpCost.warpPlateXpCostMultiplier, xpCost.portstoneXpCostMultiplier, xpCost.sharestoneXpCostMultiplier, xpCost.inventoryButtonXpCostMultiplier and xpCost.globalWaystoneXpCostMultiplier. xpCost.xpCostPerLeashed is also 0, and xpCost.inverseXpCost is false.[6]
Cooldowns and use times
- cooldowns.inventoryButtonCooldown is 300 seconds between uses of the inventory button.[6]
- cooldowns.warpStoneCooldown is 30 seconds. It is bound to the player, so multiple warp stones share the same cooldown.[6]
- cooldowns.warpStoneUseTime and cooldowns.scrollUseTime are both 32 ticks of charge-up while holding right-click.[6]
- cooldowns.warpPlateUseTime is 20 ticks, which is how long you stand on a warp plate.[6]
- cooldowns.globalWaystoneCooldownMultiplier is 1.[6]
Restrictions
- restrictions.dimensionalWarp is ALLOW, and both the dimension allow list and deny list for warping are empty, so cross-dimension warping is not restricted.[6]
- restrictions.allowWaystoneToWaystoneTeleport is true, so you can hop between waystones by right-clicking one.[6]
- restrictions.restrictToCreative is false and restrictions.restrictRenameToOwner is false.[6]
- restrictions.globalWaystoneSetupRequiresCreativeMode is true, so only creative players can make a waystone globally activated.[6]
- restrictions.transportLeashed and restrictions.transportLeashedDimensional are both true, so leashed mobs come with you. The only mob on restrictions.leashedDenyList is minecraft:wither.[6]
- restrictions.generatedWaystonesUnbreakable is false, so waystones from world generation can be broken.[6]
World generation
worldGen.frequency is 25, the approximate chunk distance between freely generated waystones. worldGen.spawnInVillages is true while worldGen.forceSpawnInVillages is false, so some villages may still have no waystone. worldGen.worldGenStyle is BIOME, which makes the look depend on the biome. worldGen.dimensionAllowList lists the Overworld, the Nether and the End.[6]
worldGen.nameGenerationMode is PRESET_FIRST, but worldGen.customWaystoneNames is empty.[6]
Inventory button and JourneyMap
inventoryButton.inventoryButton is set to an empty string in this pack. The file describes NONE, NEAREST, ANY or a waystone name as the options, so what an empty value does here is unverified. The button's inventory position is set by inventoryButton.warpButtonX (58) and inventoryButton.warpButtonY (60).[6]
compatibility.displayWaystonesOnJourneyMap and compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegration are both true. client.disableTextGlow is false.[6]
Unverified The sources only show this pack's values, not the mod's defaults, so which of these options the pack actually changed from the default is not confirmed here.
What changed in Waystones between versions?
1 part
This pack release, Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2, ships Waystones 14.1.21 (the Forge 1.20.1 build). The mod has been in the pack since 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[2]
Waystones 14.1.21
The mod's own changelog for the version you have lists one change: it fixed world gen features being registered multiple times in some cases, which resulted in feature cycle order crashes.[7]
Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there is nothing confirmed about changes made to Waystones between pack releases, or about which version it was updated from.
