What is Time in a bottle?

2 parts

Time in a bottle lets you speed up blocks that tick, like a furnace, crops or a brewing stand. Instead of waiting around, you spend time that the bottle has stored up. The pack ships version 4.0.4 for Minecraft 1.20.1.[1][2]

How it works

  1. Get a Time in a bottle item first. It collects time passively, so keep it with you and let the stored time build up.[1]
  2. Right click the block you want to speed up. For blocks like the furnace, use Shift right click.[1]
  3. Each click doubles the speed applied. The mod page says each use lasts 30 seconds.[1]

Higher speeds cost more stored time. The mod page lists x2 at 30 seconds, x4 at 30 seconds, x8 at 60 seconds and x16 at 120 seconds, and it keeps doubling from there. These are the mod's own figures, so treat them as the standard behaviour rather than a confirmed pack value.[1]

Tip: There is one admin command to add or remove time from a bottle: /tiab with addTime or removeTime and a number of seconds. It is handy for testing.[1]

In the quest book

The pack's quest book has a quest for Time in a bottle, a quest in "Useful mods and Items", in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 and holds 37 quests. The quest has no title of its own and a single task: obtain the bottle.[3]

The chapter lists it right after "Digital Miner" quest and right before "Magnet" quest.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star path uses this mod, so check the quest book itself for that.

How do you get started with Time in a bottle?

4 parts

Your first stop is Time in a bottle. It stores time and spends it to speed up the block you click, so it's worth making early. The pack's quest book has a quest for it, a quest in "Useful mods and Items", in the chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44 in the book).[1][3]

Step 1: craft the bottle

The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's default. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[4]

Time in a bottleChanged by the pack

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
Time Crystal BlockTime Crystal BlockTime Crystal Block
any diamond gemClockany diamond gem
any lapi gemsGlass Bottleany lapi gems

Recipe id: tiab:time_in_a_bottle

Step 2: let it charge

Once you have the bottle, you wait. It collects time passively, and the tooltip shows both the stored time and the total accumulated time. Keep it in your inventory and get on with your other first tasks.[1][5]

In this pack the bottle can hold at most 622,080,000 ticks, and 1 second is 20 ticks. You're unlikely to hit that cap early on.[6]

Step 3: use it

  1. Hold the bottle and right click a tickable block, such as a furnace, crops or a brewing stand. For blocks with a screen, like the furnace, use Shift right click instead.[1]
  2. Each click doubles the speed applied to that block, and each use lasts 30 seconds. The pack keeps [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle. Each Use Duration]] at 30.[1][6]
  3. Keep an eye on your stored time. The cost per click is 30 seconds for x2, 30 for x4, 60 for x8, 120 for x16, 240 for x32 and 480 for x64, and it keeps doubling after that.[1]
Tip: Don't spend everything on the highest multiplier. The costs double with every step, so a few low-multiplier uses on a furnace or a crop field often get you more for the same stored time.[1]

Pack limits to know

The pack sets [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.Max Time Rate Power]] to 8, so the top speed is 2^8, or 256 times faster.[6]

The pack's [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.API Access]] list also blocks projectexpansion and solarflux from having API access to the mod.[6]

If you run the server, the mod has an admin command, /tiab with addTime or removeTime and a number of seconds, to add or remove time from a bottle.[1]

How does Time in a bottle work?

5 parts

Time in a bottle is a simple mod with one item: Time in a bottle. It quietly collects time while you play, and you spend that time to speed up the block you click. Here is how that works in this pack.[1][5]

Using the bottle

  1. Get a Time in a bottle. The pack changed its crafting recipe, shown further down.[1][4]
  2. Wait for the stored time to go up. The bottle collects time passively, and its tooltip shows both the stored time and the total accumulated time.[1][5]
  3. Right click a tickable block, such as a furnace, crops or a brewing stand. For blocks like the furnace, use Shift right click instead.[1]
  4. Each click doubles the speed applied to that block, and the boost lasts 30 seconds.[1][6]

What each click costs

Every doubling needs enough stored time in the bottle. The mod page lists these costs per click: x2 costs 30 seconds, x4 costs 30 seconds, x8 costs 60 seconds, x16 costs 120 seconds, x32 costs 240 seconds and x64 costs 480 seconds. The list carries on in the same pattern after that.[1]

Tip: Let the bottle charge before you start stacking clicks. The cost roughly doubles with each step from x8 onwards, so the high multipliers drain a lot of stored time.[1]

Pack settings

The pack sets the mod's values in defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml. These are the ones that shape how the bottle plays.[6]

  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle. Each Use Duration]] is 30 seconds (allowed range 1 to 60). This is how long one click's boost lasts.[6]
  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.Max Time Rate Power]] is 8 (allowed range 1 to 12). The config describes it as a power of two, so 2^8 means a top speed of 256 times faster.[6]
  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.Max Stored Time]] is 622,080,000 ticks, at 20 ticks per second. That is the top of its allowed range of 600 to 622,080,000, so the pack leaves the bottle's storage cap as high as it can go.[6]
  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.Average Update Random Tick]] is 1365 (allowed range 600 to 2100). It sets the average random tick rate for blocks in a chunk, for example sapling growth. At 1365, a block is updated on average every 68.27 seconds (1365.33 game ticks).[6]
  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.API Access]] lists the mods blocked from having API access: projectexpansion and solarflux. The config notes that Tiab itself can be added to this list too.[6]

Admin command

The mod has one command for adding or removing time on a bottle: /tiab followed by addTime or removeTime and an amount in seconds. It is handy for testing or fixing a bottle.[1]

This is the Time in a bottle mod, a fork of an earlier standalone Time in a bottle. The pack's recipe for it uses content from Just Dire Things.[1][4]

How do you progress through Time in a bottle?

2 parts

There is no tier ladder to climb for Time in a bottle in this pack. The sources show one item and one recipe, so progression here is a single step: get the quest done and craft the bottle.[3][4]

Where the quest book puts it

The quest a quest in "Useful mods and Items" sits in the "Useful mods and Items" chapter, which is chapter 3 of 44 in the quest book and holds 37 quests. Its only task is to hold Time in a bottle.[3]

The in-pack recipe

The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. It is a shaped crafting recipe, and the block below shows the exact version used in this pack.[4]

Crafting Shaped

Unverified Whether the bottle has upgrade levels or any pack-specific speed limits is not confirmed by the sources for this pack, so check in-game before you plan around it.

How does Time in a bottle work with other mods?

1 part

The one in-pack link between this mod and another that the sources confirm is its crafting recipe. Time in a bottle needs a Time Crystal Block, so you have to get that block before you can make the bottle. The recipe is marked as changed by the pack, so follow the one below.[4]

Time in a bottleChanged by the pack

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
Time Crystal BlockTime Crystal BlockTime Crystal Block
any diamond gemClockany diamond gem
any lapi gemsGlass Bottleany lapi gems

Recipe id: tiab:time_in_a_bottle

This is the pack's version of the recipe, and the Time Crystal Block is the part that comes from another mod.

Everything else in the recipe is vanilla (Clock and Glass Bottle) or a generic tag: any diamond gem and any lapis gem. So the Time Crystal Block is the only ingredient that ties the bottle to another mod.[4]

In the quest book

The quest a quest in "Useful mods and Items" sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 in the book and holds 37 quests. It asks you to obtain Time in a bottle.[3]

In that chapter's listing, the quest right before it, "Digital Miner" quest, asks for an item from another mod, and so does the one right after it, "Magnet" quest.[3]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Time in a bottle?

2 parts

The pack's quest book asks you to hand in Time in a bottle in a single quest, which sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items".[3]

The quest

The quest is a quest in "Useful mods and Items". The book gives it no title of its own, so it is named after the item it asks for. Its one task is to hand in Time in a bottle. It has no description text and no other task.[3]

What else is in the chapter

In the same chapter, the book also has quests that ask for items from other mods, such as "Magnet" quest, "Construction Wand" quest and "Building Gadget" quest. Others ask for the "Tool Belt" quest and the "Torchmaster" quest items.[3]

Tip: The quest only asks you to have the item. The quest sources don't say how to obtain it, so check the recipe section of this guide for the crafting details.[3]

Which Time in a bottle config options matter?

2 parts

Everything here lives in the pack's server config file for Time in a Bottle. These are the options you're most likely to care about, with the exact values this pack uses.[6]

How long and how fast

  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle. Each Use Duration]] is 30 in this pack (seconds, allowed range 1 to 60). That is how long each click's speed-up lasts. The mod page also describes each click as lasting 30 seconds, so the pack matches it.[1][6]
  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.Max Time Rate Power]] is 8 (allowed range 1 to 12). It sets the maximum speed-up as a power of 2, so 2^8 gives 256 times faster.[6]
  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.Max Stored Time]] is 622,080,000 (allowed range 600 to 622,080,000). It is measured in ticks, where 1 second is 20 ticks, so the pack sits at the top of the allowed range. The mod page's sample config shows the same number for its max stored time option.[1][6]

Random ticks and API access

  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.Average Update Random Tick]] is 1,365 (allowed range 600 to 2,100). It defines the average random tick for blocks in a chunk, which matters for things like sapling growth. On average, blocks are updated every 68.27 seconds (1365.33 game ticks).[6]
  • [[config:defaultconfigs/tiab-server.toml#Time In A Bottle.API Access]] is set to projectexpansion and solarflux in this pack. It is the list of mods blocked from having API access, and the option's own comment says Tiab itself can be added too.[6]
Tip: Each click doubles the speed applied, and with this pack's use duration each click lasts 30 seconds. With the rate power at 8, the top speed is 256 times faster.[1][6]
