What is Snad?
Snad is a tiny mod with one job: it adds a block called Snad. Plain sand does nothing for your farms, but Snad does. It increases the growth rate of sugarcane, cacti and any other plantable crop, so you can put it under your plants and get more out of the same space.[1]
Snad is a quick craft. You can make it right in your inventory or in any other form of crafting, so there is no special machine to set up first.[1]
The pack includes Snad 20.1.0 (file Snad-20.1.0.jar), and it has been in the pack since version 0.0.45.4 or earlier.[2]
How do you get started with Snad?
3 parts
Good news: getting started with this mod is quick. There are no long crafting chains, because each block is made by putting two of its matching vanilla block together. It works in your inventory grid or any other crafting grid.[1][3]
Step 1: Make Snad first
Start with Snad. Unlike regular sand, it increases the growth rate of sugarcane, cacti and any other plantable crop. That makes it the one to craft before anything else.[1]
Two sand crafted together gives you Snad, and you can do it in your inventory.
In this pack the growth boost is controlled by [[config:config/snad-common.toml#Growth Speed]], which is set to 2. The config describes it as the multiplier for the chance of growth.[4]
Step 2: Red Snad for red sand setups
If you have red sand, you can make Red Snad the same way. The sources here don't describe any growth difference between it and regular Snad, so I won't promise one.[3][5]
Red Snad is crafted from red sand.
Step 3: Suol Snad for soul sand
Suol Snad is made from soul sand. This pack sets [[config:config/snad-common.toml#Movement Speed]] to 1.4, which the config describes as the multiplier for movement speed on Suol Snad.[3][4]
Suol Snad is crafted from soul sand.
How does Snad work?
4 parts
Snad has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling. It is a small set of blocks, so the mechanics are short: what the blocks do for your plants, how you craft them, and the two settings this pack uses.[1][5]
What Snad does
Unlike normal sand, Snad increases the growth rate of sugarcane, cacti and other plantable crops. Put it where you would normally put sand under those plants.[1]
The mod also adds Red Snad and Suol Snad. The sources only describe the Suol Snad effect through its config option, which is a movement speed multiplier while you walk on it (see below).[4][5]
Crafting
All three blocks are shapeless crafts that you can do in your inventory. Here is Snad:[1][3]
Red Snad and Suol Snad use the same pattern with a different base block:[3]
Pack settings
The pack's config file sets two values. [[config:config/snad-common.toml#Growth Speed]] is 2, and it is described as the multiplier for the chance of growth. [[config:config/snad-common.toml#Movement Speed]] is 1.4, and it is the multiplier for movement speed on Suol Snad.[4]
Using Snad in botany pots
The pack runs a script that lets you right-click certain terracotta botany pots with an item in hand to insert it straight into the pot. This works on the terracotta botany pot and its hopper version, plus the elite, ultra and creative tiers of both. You must not be crouching, and your hand must not be empty.[6]
Snad and Red Snad are both on the script's list of blocks that can be inserted this way. Suol Snad does not appear on that list, so the script does not handle it.[6]
How do you progress through Snad?
2 parts
Snad doesn't have a tier ladder in this pack. Each Snad block is a one-step shapeless craft from a sand-type block. None of the recipes use another Snad item, so there's no chain where one upgrades into the next.[3]
The three Snad blocks
Snad comes from regular sand, Red Snad comes from red sand, and Suol Snad comes from soul sand. The recipes are below.[3]
Red Snad, made from red sand.
Suol Snad, made from soul sand.
Using Snad in Botany Pots
This pack runs its own script that lets you insert items into terracotta Botany Pots by right clicking. It covers the basic and hopper terracotta pots, plus the elite, ultra and creative terracotta versions of both. The script ignores the click if your hand is empty or you're crouching.[6]
Snad and Red Snad are both on the script's list of blocks you can drop into a pot this way. Suol Snad isn't on that list, so the script won't insert it.[3][6]
Which Snad config options matter?
Snad only has two settings, and both live in the common config file. Here is how this pack sets them.[4]
- [[config:config/snad-common.toml#Growth Speed]] is set to 2 in this pack. It is the multiplier for the chance of growth.[4]
- [[config:config/snad-common.toml#Movement Speed]] is set to 1.4 in this pack. It is the multiplier for movement speed on Suol Snad.[4]
The growth option is the one you will probably care about most. Snad is there to speed up sugarcane, cacti and other plantable crops compared with regular sand, and this multiplier raises the chance of growth.[1][4]
Unverified The sources do not show the mod's default values for these two options, so it is unconfirmed whether the pack changed either of them.
What changed in Snad between versions?
