FTB Quests is a mod in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2, where it is version 2001.4.22. Questing Mod by FTB (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

Stuck? Why it might not be working

  • FTB Quests: the quest says 100%, or the task refuses what you have
Two things account for most of this in All the Mods 10 8.2, and neither is the one people look for. A quest whose tasks are all done does not close itself — the pack turns auto-claim off, so it shows a button and waits. And a task matches on the item you have far more narrowly than its icon suggests: 858 of the book's item tasks display an item carrying specific data, and only 223 of them actually check it. The detection mechanisms are real but no reporter is recorded hitting one.
Written for other versions than Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships. Some steps may no longer match.

What is FTB Quests?

1 part

This pack ships FTB Quests 2001.4.22, the mod that powers the quest book you follow through the pack. It has been in the pack since version 0.0.45.4 or earlier.[1]

Where it shows up in the quest book

The mod's own item, the Task Screen (1x1), appears in the quest book's "Shop" chapter. That chapter is chapter 2 of 44 and holds 29 quests.[2]

The quest a quest in "Shop" asks you to hand in that Task Screen item. Two quests are set to come after it: a quest in "Shop", which has a forge energy task, and a quest in "Shop", which asks for 100,000 of an Octadic Capacitor item.[2]

Most of the other quests in the Shop chapter, such as "Speed" quest and "Creative Flight" quest, ask for coin items in various amounts.[2]

Unverified The sources for this guide do not include a description of the mod's features, so this overview only covers how the pack's quest book uses it.

How do you get started with FTB Quests?

5 parts

Here is the order I'd make the FTB Quests items in this pack. Every recipe below is the exact in-pack version, so check the recipe blocks rather than relying on memory of the mod's defaults.[3]

First: the Quest Book

Start with the Quest Book. It's a shapeless recipe, so the ingredients can go in any arrangement in the crafting grid.[3]

Next: a 1x1 Task Screen

Make a Task Screen (1x1) next. It feeds into the recipes for the configurator and for every bigger screen, so you want it before anything else on this list. The pack's quest book also has a quest for it, a quest in "Shop", in the Shop chapter (chapter 2 of 44). That quest asks you to hand in the 1x1 screen itself.[2][3]

In the pack's quest book, two quests come after that screen quest in the Shop chapter. One has a Forge Energy task and no title of its own. The other asks you to hand in 100,000 of the Octadic Capacitor.[2]

Then: the Task Screen Configurator

Once you have a 1x1 screen, craft the Task Screen Configurator.[3]

Task screens have settings such as Size, Skin, Task Index, Fullscreen, Hide Icons, Input Only and Indestructible. If a screen tells you that you don't have permission to configure it, that's the mod's own message for it.[4]

Bigger screens

Task screens come in 1x1, 3x3, 5x5 and 7x7 sizes. Each bigger screen has its own recipe in this pack, and each one uses the smaller screens, so build up in order.[3][4]

Last: the Loot Crate Opener

Tip: Most of the other quests in this pack's Shop chapter ask you to hand in KubeJS coins (apotheotic, ascended and infused) in amounts such as 8, 16, 32 and 64. Check what a quest asks for before you open the chapter.[2]

How does FTB Quests work?

5 parts

FTB Quests is mostly a questing mod, but it also adds blocks that let you hand in items, read quest progress and react to quests with automation. Here is what the sources tell us about how they work.[4]

Task Screens

Task Screens come in several sizes: Task Screen (1x1), Task Screen (3x3), Task Screen (5x5) and Task Screen (7x7).[4]

Item tasks have a setting called Task Screen Only. When it is on, items can only be submitted by piping them into a Task Screen. It only applies when Consume Items is enabled for that task. So if a quest is set up this way, handing in items from your inventory will not work, and you need a screen to pipe into.[4]

Each screen has its own settings: Size, Skin, Task Index, Fullscreen, Hide Icons, Input Mode Icon, Input Only, Indestructible and Draw Text Shadows. If you lack permission, you get a message saying you can't configure the screen.[4]

If a screen shows "Broken Block / Missing Data!", the block is reporting a problem with its data.[4]

Quest Chest

The Quest Chest has an Input Slot and an Output Slot. You place items in the input slot to complete quests, and rewards appear in the output slot. There is also an Auto-Transfer All Items option for the chest.[4]

Detectors and barriers

The mod adds several blocks that react to quest state or to the world:[4]

  • Quest Detector: has Task and Notifications settings.[4]
  • Player Detector: has Radius, Height and Offset Y settings.[4]
  • Redstone Detector: has a Required Redstone Level setting.[4]
  • Quest Progress Detector: has an Object ID and an Output Level setting.[4]
  • Quest Barrier: has an Object ID setting. A Stage Barrier also exists.[4]

Beyond the setting names, the sources here do not explain exactly how each detector or barrier behaves, so test them in a creative world before building a contraption around them.[4]

Loot crates

The Loot Crate Opener shows a count of its stored items when you right click it. A Loot Crate Storage block also exists.[4]

Quest progression settings

The quest book file has a Detection Delay setting: the minimum interval, in ticks, between checks of a player's inventory when it changes. Higher values are kinder to server TPS, especially when inventories change often, but quest auto-completion messages take longer to appear.[4]

Progression mode can be Linear or Flexible. In Linear, a quest must be complete before the quests that depend on it are started. In Flexible, tasks in dependent quests can be progressed at any time, but those quests can't be completed until their dependency is.[4]

Quests can also require tasks to be done in strict order when Require Sequential Tasks is on. Setting Min Required Dependencies above 0 turns a quest into an OR quest, where only that many dependencies are needed to unlock it.[4]

Tip: Your Quest Book can be dropped on death if the Drop FTB Quests Book on Death option is enabled in the quest book settings. This pack's value for that option is not shown in the sources.[4]

How do you progress through FTB Quests?

2 parts

Progression for this mod in the pack runs through two places: the Shop chapter of the quest book, and the Task Screen crafting chain. What the Shop quests ask you to hand in is how the pack sorts its rewards into tiers.[2]

Shop tiers by coin

Almost every Shop quest asks you to hand in one type of coin: infused, apotheotic or ascended. The coin type and the amount the quest asks for are what separate the tiers.[2]

Two Shop quests ask for more than coins. "Inscriber Presses" quest asks you to hand in 16 apotheotic coins, a meteorite compass and 16 sky steel ingots. "Creative Flight" quest asks you to hand in 32 ascended coins plus a jetpack, and its own description says it needs a lot of levels.[2]

The chapter also has "Kill: 250x Wither" quest, which asks you to complete a kill task of its own instead of handing in items.[2]

Task Screen chain

The a quest in "Shop" quest asks you to hand in a Task Screen (1x1). Two quests come after it in the book: a quest in "Shop", which asks you to hand in 100,000 Ender IO octadic capacitors, and an untitled quest a quest in "Shop" with a Forge Energy task.[2]

The screens are crafted in size tiers, and each bigger screen is built from the smaller ones. Start with the 1x1.[3]

Crafting Shaped

The 5x5 builds on the 1x1 and the 3x3.[3]

The 7x7 builds on the 1x1, 3x3 and 5x5.[3]
