What is Tesseract?
2 parts
Tesseract is a logistics mod that moves items, fluids and energy between machines without a pipe run in between. Place a Tesseract, right-click it to open its GUI, and anything sent into it comes out of other Tesseracts on the same channel.[1]
There's no distance limit, and it works across dimensions. That makes it handy if you want to link a far-off machine setup to your base, or connect machines in different dimensions.[1]
How channels work
Channels decide which Tesseracts talk to each other. You create one from the GUI by picking a category tab, pressing Create and typing a name of up to 19 characters. You also choose whether it's locked or unlocked. Locked means private, so other players can't use it, and unlocked means public. Once a channel exists, you select it from the list and press Set on each Tesseract that should use it.[1]
The mod doesn't cap how much it transfers. It moves as much as the connected pipes and machines can send or receive, so your own pipes and machines are the bottleneck.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Tesseract 1.0.38 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.[2]
It shows up in two places in the questbook. One quest in the processing and automation chapter has you obtain a Tesseract, which fits its role as an automation tool. a quest in "Logistics & Automation" is that quest.[3]
The second is "Auto-Build The Tesseract Upgrade" quest in the World Engine tier 3 chapter, which also asks for a Tesseract. It unlocks only after two other quests in that chapter.[4]
Unverified The sources I have don't confirm the in-pack crafting recipe for the Tesseract, or any config changes the pack makes to it, so check the quest or recipe viewer in-game before planning around it. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with Tesseract?
3 parts
The Tesseract from Tesseract moves items, fluids and energy between Tesseracts. It works at any distance and even across dimensions. In this pack it is the task of two quests, so it is a handy thing to make once you want to skip long pipe runs.[1][3][4]
Step 1: Craft your Tesseract
The pack adds two recipes for the Tesseract, and you only need one of them. Both start from a Tesseract Frame. The first one uses the Supercooler.[5]
Supercooler recipe, added by the pack.
The second is a block casting recipe. It accepts any fluid in the molten ender tag, not just one specific molten ender.[5]
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
Tesseract Frame
- 900× any molten ender
Recipe id: ftb:productivemetalworks/casting/tesseract
Casting recipe, added by the pack.
Step 2: Set up a channel
Make at least two Tesseracts, because items, fluids and energy only travel between Tesseracts on the same channel. Then follow these steps.[1]
- Place a Tesseract and right-click it to open its GUI.[1]
- Click the category tab you want, then press the Create button.[1]
- Type a channel name. It can be up to 19 characters long, using letters and number keys.[1]
- Set the lock button: locked means private, unlocked means public. Then confirm with Create.[1]
- Open the second Tesseract, pick the same category tab, click your channel in the list and press SET.[1]
Quests to look for
Two quests ask you to have a Tesseract. a quest in "Logistics & Automation" is in the processing and automation chapter. "Auto-Build The Tesseract Upgrade" quest is in the World Engine tier 3 chapter and comes after two other quests.[3][4]
How does Tesseract work?
6 parts
The Tesseract is a wireless link for items, fluids and energy. Items, fluid and energy are transported between tesseracts that are on the same channel. It works at any distance and even across dimensions.[1][5][6]
Channels
Everything revolves around channels. Transfers only happen between tesseracts on the same channel, so you can run separate groups side by side. Right-click a tesseract to open its GUI and manage channels from there.[1]
Channel names can be up to 19 characters long and can contain letters and number keys. Each channel is either locked (private) or unlocked (public). Other players can't use your private channels.[1]
Adding a channel
- Right-click a tesseract to open its GUI.[1]
- Click the category tab you want at the top of the GUI.[1]
- Click the Create button to open a new GUI.[1]
- Select the text field and type the channel name.[1]
- Set the lock button: locked means private, unlocked means public.[1]
- Click Create again to confirm.[1]
Setting and removing a channel
To put a tesseract on a channel, open its GUI, click the category tab you want, click the channel in the list, then click the SET button. Do this on every tesseract that should share that channel.[1]
To remove a channel, open the GUI, click the category tab that matches the channel, click the channel in the list, then click the REMOVE button.[1]
Throughput and automation
Tesseracts don't limit how much items, fluid and energy they transfer. They move as much as the connected pipes and machines can send or receive, so your pipes and machines set the speed, not the tesseract.[1]
Pack config
The pack sets General.saveInterval to 3, so tesseract data is saved every 3 minutes. The allowed range is 1 to 30, and 3 is also the mod default, so the pack hasn't changed it.[7]
General.enableThermalRecipe is false. That option controls whether the alternative Thermal Series recipe is used when the Thermal Series mods are installed. The pack leaves it at the default.[7]
Crafting in this pack
This pack adds a supercooler recipe for the tesseract and a casting recipe that uses molten ender.[5]

How do you progress through Tesseract?
2 parts
The sources for this pack don't lay out a tier ladder inside Tesseract itself, so there's no tier-by-tier breakdown to give you. What they do show is where the Tesseract appears in the pack's quest book and how the pack has you make it.[3][4][5]
Where it shows up in the quests
The Tesseract is a quest task in two places. The first is quest a quest in "Logistics & Automation" in the processing and automation chapter, which asks you to have the item.[3]
The second is quest "Auto-Build The Tesseract Upgrade" quest in the World Engine tier 3 chapter. It also asks for the Tesseract, and it comes after two other quests in the quest book.[4]
How you craft it in this pack
The pack adds two recipes for the Tesseract: one made in the Supercooler and one made by block casting. Both are added by the pack, so don't assume they match what the mod does on its own.[5]
The Supercooler version, added by the pack, uses a Tesseract Frame and Molten Ender.
Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
Tesseract Frame
- 900× any molten ender
Recipe id: ftb:productivemetalworks/casting/tesseract
The block casting version, added by the pack, uses a Tesseract Frame and any molten ender from the tag.
The difference is in the fluid: the casting recipe accepts any fluid in the molten ender tag, while the Supercooler recipe names one specific Molten Ender.[5]
How does Tesseract work with other mods?
2 parts
Tesseract moves items, fluid and energy between linked Tesseracts. In this pack, its crafting connects to another mod: the Tesseract is made from a Tesseract Frame plus molten ender, and the pack gives you two ways to do that.[1][5]
Crafting with Molten Ender
Both recipes were added by the pack. Each one combines the Tesseract Frame with molten ender, such as Molten Ender. The first uses the Supercooler.[5]

The second is a block casting recipe. It accepts any fluid in the molten ender tag, not just the one item listed above.[5]

Quest connections
- a quest in "Logistics & Automation" sits in the processing and automation quest chapter. Its task is to hold a Tesseract.[3]
- "Auto-Build The Tesseract Upgrade" quest sits in the World Engine tier 3 quest chapter. It also asks for a Tesseract, and it comes after two earlier quests, 2D99F429A18BEED1 and 0E7AD6BCF9F8605F.[4]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Tesseract?
3 parts
The Tesseract shows up in two quest chapters in this pack. In both, the quest task is simply to hold the item, so the only work is getting one made.[3][4]
Processing and automation chapter
In the processing and automation chapter, the untitled quest a quest in "Logistics & Automation" has a single task: submit a Tesseract. The quest source lists no prerequisite quests for it.[3]
World Engine, tier 3 chapter
In the World Engine tier 3 chapter, the untitled quest "Auto-Build The Tesseract Upgrade" quest also asks for a Tesseract. This one is gated: it comes after two other quests in the chapter, 2D99F429A18BEED1 and 0E7AD6BCF9F8605F, so both come before it in the chapter.[4]
Order
The processing and automation quest has no listed prerequisites, so you can complete it as soon as you have a Tesseract. The World Engine tier 3 quest comes after its two earlier quests in that chapter.[3][4]
Which Tesseract config options matter?
Tesseract has only two options in its common config file, and this pack leaves both at the mod default. You won't find any pack-specific changes here, but it's worth knowing what each one does.[7]
- General.saveInterval is set to 3. It controls how often Tesseract data is saved, in minutes, so in this pack your Tesseract data is saved every 3 minutes. The allowed range is 1 to 30, and 3 is also the mod default.[7]
- General.enableThermalRecipe is set to false, which is the mod default. This option decides whether the alternative Thermal Series recipe is used when the Thermal Series mods are installed. In this pack it is off, so that alternative recipe is not used.[7]
Unverified Whether a lower or higher save interval has a noticeable effect on performance or on how much data you could lose after a crash is not covered by the available sources.
What changed in Tesseract between versions?
1 part
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Tesseract 1.0.38, which is the newest release in the mod's changelog. The mod was already in the pack as of FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier.[2][8]
Mod changelog highlights
- 1.0.38 (the version in this pack): improved memory allocation for tesseract handling, and fixed a crash when narrating the lock button in the channel creation screen.[8]
- 1.0.37: added support for WTHIT and added Turkish translations.[8]
- 1.0.36: fixed the data for the last placed tesseract sometimes being overwritten when you placed a new tesseract after loading a save. Also added Simplified Chinese translations and updated the Russian ones.[8]
- 1.0.35a: fixed tesseract info not syncing to the client properly.[8]
- 1.0.35: the initial release of Tesseract, for Minecraft 1.20.5 and 1.20.6.[8]
If you placed tesseracts and then reloaded your world, the 1.0.36 fix is the one that matters most, since it stops the last placed tesseract's data from being overwritten.[8]
