What is Structurify - Structure Control?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Structurify is a structure configuration mod. It lets you control how structures generate in your world without writing a pile of datapacks. This pack currently includes version 2.0.34, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]

It's for you if you want to tune world generation: spread structures out, stop them overlapping, keep them off bumpy terrain, or limit them to certain biomes.[1]

What you can control

  • Disable all structures globally with one setting, or disable individual structures.[1]
  • Edit the biome list for a specific structure, so it can be limited to the biomes you select.[1]
  • Set spacing and separation globally for all structure sets, or per structure set. Spacing is the average distance in chunks between structures in a set. Separation is the minimum distance in chunks, and it can't be greater than the spacing.[1]
  • Set the salt and frequency for individual structure sets, which can keep generation consistent but varied on the same world seed.[1]
  • Use a flatness check, so a structure only generates if the nearby terrain is flat enough for the threshold you set.[1]
  • Use a biome check, so a structure only generates where all nearby biomes are in a list you define. This helps avoid villages spawning across rivers.[1]

How you use it

Structurify is built for in-game configuration. On NeoForge it needs no extra mods. Structures are grouped by namespace, so settings from different mods and datapacks are easy to find, and you can search for a specific structure.[1]

Everything you set in-game is mirrored in a JSON file at config/structurify.json. That file is handy on servers, though the mod's author recommends configuring through the in-game screens. The command /structurify dump writes the complete config file with default settings.[1]

Watch out: Structure generation is complex, so things can occasionally break. This is most likely with mods that add their own custom structure generation or heavily change vanilla generation.[1]

How do you get started with Structurify - Structure Control?

1 part

Structurify is a configuration mod, so your first steps here are settings rather than crafting. It lets you control how structures generate without writing datapacks, so a good first session is just learning where the options live.[1]

Your first steps, in order

  1. Open the mod's config screen in-game. The mod is designed for in-game configuration and needs the YACL library. On NeoForge or Forge you don't need any extra mods.[1]
  2. Look through the structure categories. Structures are grouped by the mod or datapack (namespace) they come from. From there you can disable individual structures, or edit the list of biomes a specific structure can generate in. You can also search for a structure across all categories.[1][3]
  3. Try the structure sets category to change how spread out structures are. A global spacing and separation modifier of 1.0 leaves things unchanged. Below 1.0 structure sets become more concentrated, and above 1.0 they become more spread out.[1][3]
  4. Tweak the extras if you want them. You can stop structures from overlapping each other, require flat terrain with the flatness check, or limit generation with the biome check, which helps avoid things like a village spawning across a river.[1][3]
  5. Run the /structurify dump command when you want to see everything. It dumps the complete config file with default settings to a file.[1]
Tip: Spacing is the average distance in chunks between structures in the same structure set. Separation is the minimum distance in chunks. Separation can't be greater than spacing, so change them together.[1][3]
Watch out: Every setting is mirrored in config/structurify.json. This file is handy for servers, but the mod recommends making your changes through the in-game screen rather than editing the file by hand.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't show whether this pack changes any Structurify defaults, so check the in-game screen for the pack's actual values before relying on the mod's defaults.

How does Structurify - Structure Control work?

7 parts

The mod's page currently describes Structurify as a configuration mod for structures, so this section covers how its settings work and how the pack has them set.[1]

Structures vs. structure sets

Structurify splits its settings into structures and structure sets. Structures are the individual buildings and features. They're grouped into categories by namespace, so each mod or datapack gets its own group. Each structure has its own settings, and you can disable it entirely or manage the list of biomes it can generate in.[1][3]

Structure sets are groups of structures, and they control how structures are spread out across the world. You can adjust the spread globally or set values for each structure set individually.[1][3]

How structure sets control spread

  • Spacing is the average distance in chunks between structures within the same structure set.[1][3]
  • Separation is the minimum distance in chunks between structures within the same structure set. It can't be greater than the spacing value.[1][3]
  • Salt is a number used as a seed for the random generator that scatters structures. Each structure set should have a unique salt.[3]
  • Frequency is the likelihood of a structure attempting to generate once all other conditions are met. 1.0 means a 100% chance and 0.0 means 0%.[3]
  • Weight is the chance of a structure being chosen over others. A bigger weight means a higher chance.[3]
  • A structure set can also be disabled, in which case it won't generate.[3]

The global spacing modifier

If you don't want to edit every set one by one, the global spacing and separation modifier multiplies the spacing and separation of each structure set. Below 1.0, structures are more concentrated. At 1.0 nothing changes. Above 1.0, they're more spread out. A structure set can opt out of the global modifier with its own override setting.[3]

In this pack the global modifier is switched off through general.enable_global_spacing_and_separation_modifier and its value general.global_spacing_and_separation_modifier is 1, so structure spacing isn't globally changed.[3][4]

Checks that decide whether a structure generates

Beyond spread, each structure can have extra conditions. A structure that fails a check won't generate there.[3]

  • Flatness check: the structure only generates if the terrain under it is flat. In Auto mode the maximum height difference is calculated per structure from its area and number of pieces. In Manual mode you set it yourself. You can also let liquid, air and other special blocks count as solid so they don't fail the check.[1][3]
  • Biome check: Strict mode stops generation if any part of the structure touches a biome that isn't in its biome list. Blacklist mode stops it if any part touches a biome on the blacklist. It's handy for avoiding things like villages spawning across rivers.[1][3]
  • Distance from world center: a structure can be required to be farther than a minimum distance, closer than a maximum distance, or both. Circle mode measures a radius in every direction, while Square mode measures along the X and Z axes.[3]
  • Overlap prevention: when enabled, structures are prevented from overlapping each other. Overlap padding claims extra chunks around each structure's bounding box, and 0 disables the padding. Namespaces or individual structures can be excluded from it.[3]

The global minimum distance from the world center is general.min_structure_distance_from_world_center, and the pack sets it to 0. Per-structure checks can override the global and namespace-level settings, and each structure has its own override toggles for this.[3][4]

Jigsaw structure settings

Structures built from jigsaw pieces get a few extra options. Size sets the depth of the structure, from 1 (smallest) to 20 (biggest). You can limit how far from the structure center pieces may generate, in total, horizontally or vertically. You can also choose how the starting height is picked (constant, uniform or one of the bottom-biased distributions) and whether the start projects onto the terrain surface.[3]

What this pack sets

general.disable_all_structures is false in the pack, so structures generate normally unless something else turns them off. The pack's structure_sets list contains ftb:troll_cave with salt 11 and irons_spellbooks:ancient_battleground with salt 65431. Both have frequency 0.099999994, spacing 0, separation 0 and the per-set override of the global modifier turned off.[3][4]

Editing the settings

Structurify is designed for in-game configuration, which needs the YACL library. Everything you change in game is mirrored in config/structurify.json. The mod's page recommends doing the configuration in game, even for servers.[1]

Tip: The /structurify dump command writes the complete config file with default settings to a file, which is useful for seeing every available option.[1]
Watch out: Structure generation is complex, and the mod's page warns that things can occasionally break with mods that use their own custom structure generation logic or heavily alter vanilla generation.[1]

Which Structurify - Structure Control config options matter?

2 parts

Structurify lets you disable structures, respace them and tweak their generation without writing datapacks. In this pack, all of it is configured in config/structurify.json, and the values below are exactly what the pack sets.[1][4]

General options

Per-structure-set entries

The structure_sets option has entries for ftb:troll_cave (salt 11) and irons_spellbooks:ancient_battleground (salt 65431). Both have frequency 0.099999994, spacing 0 and separation 0, and both have override_global_spacing_and_separation_modifier set to false.[4]

Structurify lets you set salt and frequency per structure set, which keeps generation consistent but varied on the same world seed. You can also adjust spacing and separation for individual sets to change the distance between them.[1]

Tip: Run /structurify dump to write the complete config file with default settings. It's a handy way to see every option available.[1]

What changed in Structurify - Structure Control between versions?

3 parts

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Structurify 2.0.35, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier. What follows comes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[5]

2.0.35 (the version in 1.21.0)

  • Added "Enable" toggles and a "Circle"/"Square" mode for the min/max distance from world center.[6]
  • Added overlap prevention padding, measured in chunks. You can set it globally and per namespace or structure.[6]
  • Fixed "Exclude from overlap prevention" not excluding a structure unless its whole namespace was also excluded.[6]
  • Fixed min/max distance from world center always meaning "unlimited" when set to 0.[6]
  • Improved the "save only changed values" logic so it also covers general settings, structure namespaces and overlap checks.[6]

2.0.34

  • Fixed the config packet sync logic, and fixed jigsaw options not being editable for disabled structures.[7]
  • Fixed biome dropdown selection and the spacing value of structure sets being corrected to a wrong value.[7]
  • Improved search across more complex fields, and improved load/save of the structure "start_height" property, including modded height providers.[7]
  • The "/structurify dump" command now dumps all the biomes and all the values, not only the changed ones.[7]
  • The "YetAnotherConfigLib" dependency is now required only on the client side.[7]

Earlier fixes

  • 2.0.32: fixed the reset of the biome list.[8]
  • 2.0.30: fixed compatibility with "The Twilight Forest".[9]
  • 2.0.28: fixed a crash related to parsing modded jigsaw structure data.[10]
  • 2.0.25: fixed biome loading, fixed a crash when loading modded jigsaw structures, and fixed the flatness check not working correctly for very small structures.[11]
  • 1.0.21: fixed the default salt value to the correct 0 instead of 1.[12]
