What is Structurify - Structure Control?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Structurify is a structure configuration mod. It lets you control how structures generate in your world without writing a pile of datapacks. This pack currently includes version 2.0.34, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]

It's for you if you want to tune world generation: spread structures out, stop them overlapping, keep them off bumpy terrain, or limit them to certain biomes.[1]

What you can control

  • Disable all structures globally with one setting, or disable individual structures.[1]
  • Edit the biome list for a specific structure, so it can be limited to the biomes you select.[1]
  • Set spacing and separation globally for all structure sets, or per structure set. Spacing is the average distance in chunks between structures in a set. Separation is the minimum distance in chunks, and it can't be greater than the spacing.[1]
  • Set the salt and frequency for individual structure sets, which can keep generation consistent but varied on the same world seed.[1]
  • Use a flatness check, so a structure only generates if the nearby terrain is flat enough for the threshold you set.[1]
  • Use a biome check, so a structure only generates where all nearby biomes are in a list you define. This helps avoid villages spawning across rivers.[1]

How you use it

Structurify is built for in-game configuration. On NeoForge it needs no extra mods. Structures are grouped by namespace, so settings from different mods and datapacks are easy to find, and you can search for a specific structure.[1]

Everything you set in-game is mirrored in a JSON file at config/structurify.json. That file is handy on servers, though the mod's author recommends configuring through the in-game screens. The command /structurify dump writes the complete config file with default settings.[1]

Watch out: Structure generation is complex, so things can occasionally break. This is most likely with mods that add their own custom structure generation or heavily change vanilla generation.[1]

How do you get started with Structurify - Structure Control?

2 parts

Structurify is a configuration mod, so there is nothing to craft here. Your first steps are all about settings: checking what the pack already does to structure generation, then tweaking it if you want to.[1]

First steps, in order

  1. Open the mod's config screen in game. Structures are grouped by namespace (the mod or datapack that adds them), and you can search for a specific structure across those groups. The mod needs YACL for this in-game screen.[1]
  2. Check the master switch first. In this pack general.disable_all_structures is false, so structures are not globally turned off. If you ever switch it on, it overrides every individual structure option.[3][4]
  3. Look at the global spread setting. The pack has general.enable_global_spacing_and_separation_modifier set to true and general.global_spacing_and_separation_modifier set to 1. A value of 1 leaves things unaffected, below 1 packs structure sets closer together, and above 1 spreads them out.[3][4]
  4. Note the pack's general.min_structure_distance_from_world_center value, which is 256 here.[3]
  5. Only then fine-tune individual structure sets. Each one has spacing, separation, salt and frequency, plus an option to override the global modifier.[1][4]

What spacing, separation and frequency mean

Spacing is the average distance in chunks between structures in the same set. Separation is the minimum distance in chunks between them, and it cannot be greater than spacing. Frequency is the chance a structure attempts to generate once all other conditions are met: 1.0 is a 100% chance and 0.0 is 0%.[4]

The pack already tunes some sets in structure_sets. For example, minecraft:buried_treasures has a frequency of 0.01 and minecraft:mineshafts has 0.004. The betterfortresses:fortress set has a frequency of 0, and none of the sets override the global modifier.[3]

Watch out: Individual mods and datapacks can define their own placement rules and overrides for a structure set, so changing a value might not always give you the spread you expected.[4]
Tip: Everything you change in game is mirrored in config/structurify.json, which is handy for servers. The command /structurify dump writes a complete config file with default settings to a file, useful for seeing every option.[1]

How does Structurify - Structure Control work?

5 parts

Structurify has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item handling to automate. It is a configuration mod for world generation: it lets you control which structures generate, where they can appear and how far apart they are, without writing datapacks. So this section is about how those settings work and what the pack sets them to.[1]

Where the settings live

You can change everything in game through the mod's config screen, which needs YACL. Every in-game option is mirrored in a JSON file at config/structurify.json. That file is handy on servers, though the mod's author recommends configuring through the in-game screens.[1]

If you want to see every option with its default value, the mod's page currently lists a /structurify dump command that writes the complete default config to a file.[1]

Structures and structure sets

The mod splits its settings into structures and structure sets. Structures are single things like a village, and you can disable them one by one or edit the biomes they may generate in. Structure sets are groups of structures that share a placement pattern, and they control how those structures are spread through the world. In the config screen, both are sorted by namespace, so each mod or datapack gets its own category.[1][4]

There is also a master switch, general.disable_all_structures. When it is on, all structures are disabled regardless of the individual structure options. This pack leaves it set to false. If a structure is disabled, the locate command currently tells you so instead of finding it.[3][4]

How structure spread works

  • Spacing is, as the mod currently describes it, the average distance in chunks between structures in the same structure set.[1][4]
  • Separation is currently described as the minimum distance in chunks between structures in the same set. It cannot be greater than the spacing value.[1][4]
  • Frequency is, per the mod's current screen text, the likelihood that a structure attempts to generate once every other condition is met. 1.0 is a 100% chance and 0.0 is a 0% chance.[4]
  • Salt is a number used as a seed for the random generator that scatters structures. Each structure set should have a unique salt.[4]
  • Each structure set can also be disabled outright, and then it will not generate.[4]

On top of the per-set values there is a global modifier. As the mod currently describes it, when general.enable_global_spacing_and_separation_modifier is on, the spacing and separation of each structure set are multiplied by general.global_spacing_and_separation_modifier. Below 1.0 structures become more concentrated, above 1.0 they spread out, and exactly 1.0 changes nothing.[4]

In this pack the global modifier is enabled but set to 1, so it does not change anything. A structure set can also opt out of the global modifier with its own override option, and every set in the pack's file has that override set to false.[3][4]

Watch out: Other mods and datapacks can define their own placement rules and overrides for a structure set. Because of that, changing a spread value will not always give you the spread you expect.[4]

What this pack sets

The pack's file lists these structure sets under structure_sets. Their values are the pack's own, not the mod's defaults.[3]

  • betterfortresses:fortress has spacing 30, separation 20 and frequency 0 in this pack's file. Going by the frequency description the mod currently shows, that means a 0% chance to generate.[3][4]
  • cataclysm:acropolis has spacing 80, separation 50 and frequency 1.[3]
  • ftb:overworld_main has spacing 24, separation 12 and frequency 1.[3]
  • ftbteambases:start has spacing 0, separation 0 and frequency 1.[3]
  • minecraft:buried_treasures has spacing 1, separation 0 and frequency 0.01.[3]
  • minecraft:mineshafts has spacing 1, separation 0 and frequency 0.004.[3]
  • minecraft:strongholds has spacing 0, separation 0 and frequency 1.[3]

The file also sets general.min_structure_distance_from_world_center to 256. Per-structure settings are kept under structures in the same file.[3]

Per-structure checks

In the mod's current screen text, each structure has its own detail screen with extra checks that must pass before it generates.[4]

  • Biome check: in Strict mode, a structure will not generate if any part of it intersects a biome that is not in its biome list. In Blacklist mode, it will not generate if any part touches a biome on the blacklist. The mod's page says this helps avoid things like villages spawning across rivers.[1][4]
  • Flatness check: the structure only generates if the terrain under it is flat enough. The maximum allowed height difference is measured in blocks, and an Auto mode works it out per structure area and number of pieces.[4]
  • Distance from world center: a structure can have a minimum distance (it only generates farther than that) and a maximum distance (it only generates closer than that). Distance can be measured as a Circle (a radius in every direction) or a Square (along the X and Z axes).[4]
  • Overlap prevention: when enabled globally, structures are prevented from overlapping each other. Padding adds extra chunks around each structure's bounding box, and 0 disables padding. A structure or namespace can be excluded from this.[4]

The sources here do not currently show which of these per-structure checks are switched on for each structure in this pack. Check the in-game screen or the structures entry in the config file to see the actual values.[3][4]

Which Structurify - Structure Control config options matter?

3 parts

Structurify controls structure generation from one file, and this pack ships it with some very deliberate settings. Here is what the pack sets in general.disable_all_structures and the other options you are most likely to look at.[1][3]

General settings

Individual structures

The structures list is where the pack does most of its work. Every entry in the pack's file has is_disabled set to true. That covers vanilla structures such as villages, the ancient city, the bastion remnant and trial chambers, plus many structures added by other mods. The mod lets you disable structures one by one like this, so the pack uses it across the whole list.[1][3]

The optional checks are also left off. In the entries, enable_biome_check and enable_flatness_check are false, and flatness_check_threshold is 10. The mod describes these as ways to make a structure generate only on flat enough terrain, or only where nearby biomes fall within a list, for example to avoid villages spawning across rivers.[1][3]

Structure sets

The structure_sets list holds the spacing, separation and frequency for each set the pack configures. In every one of them, override_global_spacing_and_separation_modifier is false.[1][3]

  • ftb:overworld_main: spacing 24, separation 12, frequency 1.[3]
  • cataclysm:acropolis: spacing 80, separation 50, frequency 1.[3]
  • betterfortresses:fortress: spacing 30, separation 20, frequency 0.[3]
  • ftbteambases:start: spacing 0, separation 0, frequency 1.[3]
  • minecraft:strongholds: spacing 0, separation 0, frequency 1.[3]
  • minecraft:buried_treasures: spacing 1, separation 0, frequency 0.01.[3]
  • minecraft:mineshafts: spacing 1, separation 0, frequency 0.004.[3]
Tip: The /structurify dump command dumps the complete config file with default settings, which gives you a reference for what the mod itself starts with.[1]

What changed in Structurify - Structure Control between versions?

3 parts

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Structurify 2.0.35, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[5]

2.0.35 (the version in this pack)

  • Added "Enable" toggles and a "Circle" or "Square" mode for the min/max distance from world center.[6]
  • Added overlap prevention padding, measured in chunks. You can set it globally and per namespace or structure.[6]
  • Fixed "Exclude from overlap prevention" not excluding a structure unless its whole namespace was also excluded.[6]
  • Fixed min/max distance from world center always meaning "unlimited" when set to 0.[6]
  • Improved the "save only changed values" logic so it also covers general settings, structure namespaces and overlap checks.[6]

2.0.34

  • Fixed config packet sync logic, jigsaw options not being editable for disabled structures, and biome selection in the biome dropdown.[7]
  • Fixed the spacing value of structure sets being corrected to a wrong value.[7]
  • Improved search across more complex fields, and improved load and save of the structure "start_height" property, including modded height providers.[7]
  • The "/structurify dump" command now dumps all the biomes and all the values, not only the changed ones.[7]
  • The "YetAnotherConfigLib" dependency is now required only on the client side.[7]
  • Fixed a crash when loading mod resource packs with invalid metadata, but that fix was for Forge only.[7]

Earlier fixes

  • 2.0.33: fixed part of the config resetting, and config values not being saved.[8]
  • 2.0.32: fixed the biome list being reset.[9]
  • 2.0.30: fixed compatibility with "The Twilight Forest".[10]
  • 2.0.28: fixed a crash related to parsing modded jigsaw structure data.[11]
Tip: If you tweak distance from world center, remember that since 2.0.35 a value of 0 no longer always means "unlimited", and the new Enable toggles and Circle or Square mode are there to control it.[6]
