What is Rechiseled?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Rechiseled is a decorative building mod. It lets you swap one block for many different decorative variants of it, and those variants use connected textures. The mod adds over 600 decorative variants of vanilla blocks, so it's a great pick when you want your builds to look less plain.[1]

This pack includes Rechiseled 1.2.5 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.[2]

How it works

Everything revolves around the chisel. Right-click it to open the chiseling screen, where you put in a block and preview all of its variants. You can swap between those variants and their stairs and slabs right there.[1]

You can also chisel blocks that are already placed. Left-click a block with the chisel and it changes to a random variant. If you've stored a block in the chisel, that block acts as a filter and the left-clicked block turns into that exact variant.[1]

  • Most variants come with stairs and slabs, and the connected textures link up between the full block, stairs and slab of the same variant.[1]
  • The chisel has no durability, so you can use it as many times as you like.[1]
  • If your blocks aren't connecting, most blocks have a version with and without connected textures. Use the toggle button in the bottom right of the chiseling screen to switch.[1]

Who it's for

It's for builders. Rechiseled doesn't change how the pack's tech or progression works. It's a cosmetic tool for giving your base and your builds more variety, using blocks you already have.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show where Rechiseled fits in the pack's progression. No quests involve this mod, it isn't on the ATM Star path, and no in-pack chisel recipe is available here, so check in game for how to get the chisel.

Unverified Rechiseled has official addons for Create, Applied Energistics 2 and Cobblemon, but the sources don't confirm whether any of them are installed in this pack.

How do you get started with Rechiseled?

4 parts

Rechiseled turns plain blocks into decorative variants with connected textures, and the Chisel is the tool you use to do it. Make it first, because it is how you swap blocks between their variants.[1][3]

Craft the chisel

In this pack the chisel is crafted with a recipe the pack added itself, so check the recipe below rather than relying on what you remember from other packs. The chisel has no durability, so it can be used as many times as you want.[1][3]

Learn the two ways to chisel

  1. Right-click with the chisel to open the chiseling screen. Put a block in and you can preview all of its variants.[1]
  2. Pick a variant in the screen to swap to it. The same screen also gives you the stairs and slabs of that variant.[1]
  3. Left-click a block that is already placed to change it to a random variant. If you have stored a block in the chisel, it acts as a filter, and any block you left-click becomes that variant.[1]
Tip: If your blocks are not connecting, you probably picked the version without connecting textures. Most blocks come in both, and the button in the bottom right of the chiseling screen toggles between them.[1]

Stairs and slabs

Most variants come with stairs and slabs, and you get them from the chiseling screen. The connecting textures also link up between the full block, the stairs and the slab of the same variant, so you can build smooth walls and steps in one style.[1]

Polishing bordered basalt with sandpaper

The pack also adds Create sandpaper polishing recipes for bordered basalt. They turn Basalt Bordered Connecting into Basalt Bordered Polished Connecting. They also turn Bordered Basalt Slab into Bordered Polished Basalt Slab, and Bordered Basalt Stairs into Bordered Polished Basalt Stairs. The connecting versions of the slab and stairs have their own polishing recipes too.[3]

How does Rechiseled work?

5 parts

Rechiseled has no machines, power or fluids to worry about. Everything runs through one tool, the Chisel, which swaps blocks between decorative variants that use connected textures. The mod adds over 600 decorative variants of vanilla blocks.[1]

Getting the chisel

The pack adds its own recipe for the chisel to fix a conflicting recipe. Here is how it is crafted in this pack:[3][4]

Tip: The chisel has no durability, so you can use it as many times as you like.[1]

Using the chisel

  • Right-click with the chisel to open the chiseling screen.[1]
  • Left-click a block with the chisel to exchange it for another decorative variant.[1]

The chiseling screen

Put a block into the screen and you can preview all of its variants. You can swap between those variants and their stairs and slabs, so this is also where you get stairs and slabs for a variant.[1]

Most blocks come in a version with connecting textures and one without. A button in the bottom right of the screen toggles between them. If your blocks are not connecting, check that toggle first.[1]

Connecting textures also link up across the full block, stairs and slab of the same variant, so you can mix shapes without breaking the pattern.[1]

Chiseling blocks in the world

You can change blocks that are already placed. Left-click one with the chisel and it turns into a random variant. If the chisel has a block stored in it, that block works as a filter, and every block you left-click becomes that variant.[1]

Polishing with Create sandpaper

The pack adds Create sandpaper polishing recipes for the bordered basalt variants. They turn the bordered basalt blocks into their polished versions. For example, Basalt Bordered Connecting becomes Basalt Bordered Polished Connecting.[3]

The same polishing works for the slab and stairs, in both the plain and connecting forms: Bordered Basalt Slab becomes Bordered Polished Basalt Slab, and Bordered Basalt Stairs becomes Bordered Polished Basalt Stairs.[3]

How do you progress through Rechiseled?

2 parts

Rechiseled in this pack is a short path rather than a long tier ladder. Everything starts with the Chisel, and the only upgrade step the pack's recipes show is polishing bordered basalt with sandpaper.[3][4]

Step 1: Get a chisel

The pack sets its own recipe for the Chisel. The script that adds it is commented as fixing a conflicting recipe. The pack's shaped recipe is below.[3][4]

Step 2: Polish bordered basalt

The pack adds Create sandpaper polishing recipes that turn bordered basalt blocks into their polished versions. Plain and connecting variants each have their own recipe.[3]

What changed in Rechiseled between versions?

4 parts

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Rechiseled 1.2.5, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier. I have no pack changelog entries for it, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[5]

1.2.5 (the version in this pack)

  • Fixed non-connecting blocks also connecting when used with Fusion 1.3.0.[6]
  • Fixed the texture for the Compacted Coal Block.[6]

1.2.1 to 1.2.4: fixes

  • 1.2.4: fixed the chisel stack not always updating when you shift-click items out of its slot.[6][7]
  • 1.2.3: replaced the default JEI scrollbar with custom smooth scrolling, and fixed the Edged Block of Amethyst texture connecting incorrectly.[6][7]
  • 1.2.2: fixed being able to get oversized item stacks from the chisel, and fixed a crash when saving a chisel holding a stack larger than 99.[6][7][8]
  • 1.2.1: fixed in-world chiseling not working on a server.[6][7][8][9]

1.2.0: the big update

This is the release that shaped how the mod works today. The headline changes:[6][7][8][9]

  • Stairs and slabs were added for all of Rechiseled's decorative blocks, and for the vanilla chiseling recipe entries. Chiseling recipes can now include stairs and slabs too.[6][7][8][9]
  • The chiseling screen was overhauled with a scrollbar, a search field and filters. It shows more entries at once, and it marks chiselable blocks in your inventory.[6][7][8][9]
  • You can now chisel blocks by left-clicking them with a chisel.[6][7][8][9]
  • Rechiseled's textures take up 76% less atlas space.[6][7][8][9]
  • Flowers and other vegetation can now be placed on dirt blocks from Rechiseled.[6][7][8][9]
  • JEI and REI integration was improved. Other mods can now register plugins to add or modify chiseling recipes, and each block type got tags for its blocks, stairs and slabs.[6][7][8][9]
  • The chiseling screen preview got better lighting, and fixes for transparent blocks showing internal faces and for glass panes not connecting. A couple of misaligned textures and crashes with the mod Quad were also fixed.[6][7][8][9]
