What is Particular ✨ Reforged?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Particular is a purely visual mod. It adds hand-crafted ambience effects to the world, so it makes Minecraft look and feel more alive without adding new gameplay. The pack ships Particular Reforged 1.5.7, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]

What you'll see

  • 3D water splashes that match the water color. Wider entities make wider splashes, and taller falls make taller splashes.[1]
  • Waterfall cascades. They appear when falling water is over 2 block deep source water and the top source water has at least 1 open side.[1]
  • Fireflies in warm biomes, around flowers and tall grass. Their spawn rates are randomized at dusk.[1]
  • Falling leaves. Each leaves block has its own leaf particle, and the leaves create ripples when they land on water.[1]
  • Cave dust. The deeper you are and the less sunlight there is, the more of it spawns.[1]
  • Bubbles from chests and barrels opened underwater. Ender chests release green-tinted bubbles.[1]
  • Smaller touches: popping bubbles, ripples from rain and water drips, cake eating particles and emissive lava drips.[1]
Tip: Place soul sand under a chest underwater and it opens by itself and releases bubbles. It makes a nice decoration for an underwater base.[1]

Who it's for

It's for anyone who wants a prettier world and doesn't want to manage anything extra. You can disable any of the effects in the mod's configuration, and you can also adjust which biomes should not spawn cave dust. That's handy if an effect bothers you or costs you frames.[1]

The mod also adds custom falling leaves for Traverse, Regions Unexplored and Wilder Wild. Those only show up if the matching mod is installed.[1]

Where it fits in progression

It doesn't. Particular has no crafting, no machines and no tiers to unlock, so you can't gate or speed up your progress with it. The effects are active from the moment you load in.[1]

Unverified No in-jar guidebook, quests or ATM Star path involvement were found for this mod in the pack, and the pack's own configuration values for it are unconfirmed. If you want to change an effect, check the mod's config in your instance.

How do you get started with Particular ✨ Reforged?

3 parts

Particular ✨ Reforged is a different kind of mod: it adds no machines to build. It enhances Minecraft's ambience with hand-crafted visual effects, so your first steps are about knowing what to look for and what you can switch off.[1]

What you will see

  • 3D water splashes that match the water color. The wider the entity, the wider the splash, and the taller the fall, the taller the splash.[1]
  • Waterfall cascades, which appear when falling water is over 2 blocks deep in source water and the top source water has at least 1 open side.[1]
  • Fireflies that spawn in warm biomes at flowers and tall grass, with spawn rates randomized at dusk.[1]
  • Falling leaves, where each leaves block has its own leaf particle. They create ripples when landing on water.[1]
  • Cave dust, whose spawn rate is proportional to depth and sunlight level.[1]
  • Bubbles from chests and barrels opened underwater. Ender chests release green-tinted bubbles.[1]
  • Popping bubbles, rain and water drip ripples, cake eating particles and emissive lava drips.[1]
Tip: Want to see the bubble effect on purpose? Place soul sand under a chest underwater and it opens automatically and releases bubbles.[1]

Turning effects on and off

Every effect has its own switch, and all of them are set to true in this pack. For example, you can toggle general.enabledEffects.fireflies, general.enabledEffects.fallingLeaves, general.enabledEffects.caveDust and general.enabledEffects.waterSplash in config/particular-common.toml.[3]

The cascade, bubble and ripple effects have switches too: general.enabledEffects.cascades, general.enabledEffects.chestBubbles, general.enabledEffects.barrelBubbles and general.enabledEffects.rainRipples are examples.[3]

Pack settings worth knowing

Unverified Quests and recipes for this mod: the sources here show no quests or crafting recipes for Particular, so there is no item to craft first. Check the pack's quest book yourself if you want to confirm.

How does Particular ✨ Reforged work?

6 parts

Particular is an ambience mod, not a tech mod. It adds hand-crafted visual effects to the world, so there are no machines, power or item handling to set up. What matters is when each effect appears and which settings change it. This page walks through those effects and the values the pack uses in its config.[1]

Water splashes and waterfall cascades

Water splashes are 3D and match the water's color. A wider entity makes a wider splash, and a taller fall makes a taller splash.[1]

Cascades appear when falling water is over source water more than 2 blocks deep, and the top source water needs at least 1 open side. Cascade strength depends on the falling water's height and on how many open sides the source water has.[1]

Bubbles

Opening a chest or barrel underwater releases bubbles. Ender chests release green-tinted bubbles.[1]

Tip: Place soul sand under a chest and it opens automatically and releases bubbles, which makes a nice underwater decoration.[1]

Popping bubbles are a separate effect. Each bubble type has its own toggle: general.enabledEffects.chestBubbles, general.enabledEffects.barrelBubbles, general.enabledEffects.soulSandBubbles and general.enabledEffects.poppingBubbles. All four are on in the pack.[1][3]

Fireflies

Fireflies spawn in warm biomes at flowers and tall grass. Their spawn rates are randomized at dusk.[1]

The pack leaves the firefly timing and temperature range at the mod defaults. Spawning starts at 12000 (general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.startTime) and stops at 23000 (general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.endTime). Both are on a 0 to 23999 time scale. The biome temperature must be between 0.5 (general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.minTemp) and 0.9900000095367432 (general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.maxTemp).[3]

Fireflies cannot spawn in rain, because general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.canSpawnInRain is false in the pack.[3]

Each plant type has its own frequency modifier, again at the mod default:[3]

The daily random factors are [0,0,0,0.33,0.66,1] (general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.dailyRandom). That is why some evenings are busier than others.[3]

Falling leaves

Each leaves block has its own leaf particle with varying behavior, and leaves create ripples when they land on water. The mod also adds custom falling leaves for Traverse, Regions Unexplored and Wilder Wild.[1]

In the pack, general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.spawnChance is 60 (higher means less frequent, the same as the mod default). Leaves lay flat on the ground (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatOnGround is true) but not at right angles (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatRightAngles is false). Ripples on water are on (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.spawnRipples is true).[3]

Cave dust

Cave dust spawn rates are proportional to depth and sunlight level, so you see more of it deeper down and away from daylight.[1]

The pack uses the mod defaults for the dust particles themselves:[3]

general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.excludeBiomes lists minecraft:lush_caves, minecraft:dripstone_caves and minecraft:deep_dark, so no cave dust spawns there.[3]

Other ambience and toggles

The mod also adds ripples from rain and water drips, cake eating particles and emissive lava drips. You can disable any effect in the config, and in the pack every effect is enabled.[1][3]

Which Particular ✨ Reforged config options matter?

4 parts

Particular is all about ambience, so its config is mostly about which effects you see and how often they show up. The mod can disable any effect and change which biomes are excluded from cave dust. Here is exactly how this pack sets things up.[1]

Nothing in this pack's config differs from the mod defaults where a default is shown. Every value that lists a default matches it, so the pack is effectively running Particular's standard look. Some options, like the biome exclusion list and the on/off toggles, don't show a default in the sources, so I can't say whether the pack touched those.[3]

Effect toggles

Every effect is switched on in this pack: general.enabledEffects.waterSplash, general.enabledEffects.cascades, general.enabledEffects.waterfallSpray, general.enabledEffects.fireflies, general.enabledEffects.fallingLeaves, general.enabledEffects.caveDust, general.enabledEffects.chestBubbles, general.enabledEffects.barrelBubbles, general.enabledEffects.soulSandBubbles, general.enabledEffects.poppingBubbles, general.enabledEffects.rainRipples, general.enabledEffects.waterDripRipples, general.enabledEffects.cakeEatingParticles and general.enabledEffects.emissiveLavaDrips are all set to true.[3]

Tip: If one effect bothers you or your frame rate, set its toggle under enabledEffects to false. For effects with a spawn chance, a higher number means fewer particles.[1][3]

What changed in Particular ✨ Reforged between versions?

Particular Reforged has been in FTB StoneBlock 4 since 1.0.0 or earlier. Pack version 1.13.1 ships with Particular Reforged 1.1.7.[4]

The one change I can confirm from the mod's own changelog for 1.1.7 is a fix so it no longer crashes on servers. That matters if you play multiplayer or run a dedicated server.[5]

There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't tell you about any other changes across the pack's releases.[4]
