What is Particular ✨ Reforged?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Particular is a purely visual mod. It adds hand-crafted ambience effects to the world, so it makes Minecraft look and feel more alive without adding new gameplay. The pack ships Particular Reforged 1.5.7, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]
What you'll see
- 3D water splashes that match the water color. Wider entities make wider splashes, and taller falls make taller splashes.[1]
- Waterfall cascades. They appear when falling water is over 2 block deep source water and the top source water has at least 1 open side.[1]
- Fireflies in warm biomes, around flowers and tall grass. Their spawn rates are randomized at dusk.[1]
- Falling leaves. Each leaves block has its own leaf particle, and the leaves create ripples when they land on water.[1]
- Cave dust. The deeper you are and the less sunlight there is, the more of it spawns.[1]
- Bubbles from chests and barrels opened underwater. Ender chests release green-tinted bubbles.[1]
- Smaller touches: popping bubbles, ripples from rain and water drips, cake eating particles and emissive lava drips.[1]
Who it's for
It's for anyone who wants a prettier world and doesn't want to manage anything extra. You can disable any of the effects in the mod's configuration, and you can also adjust which biomes should not spawn cave dust. That's handy if an effect bothers you or costs you frames.[1]
The mod also adds custom falling leaves for Traverse, Regions Unexplored and Wilder Wild. Those only show up if the matching mod is installed.[1]
Where it fits in progression
It doesn't. Particular has no crafting, no machines and no tiers to unlock, so you can't gate or speed up your progress with it. The effects are active from the moment you load in.[1]
Unverified No in-jar guidebook, quests or ATM Star path involvement were found for this mod in the pack, and the pack's own configuration values for it are unconfirmed. If you want to change an effect, check the mod's config in your instance.
How do you get started with Particular ✨ Reforged?
3 parts
Good news: there's nothing to craft here. Particular ✨ Reforged is a visual-effects mod that enhances Minecraft's ambience with hand-crafted effects, so it works as soon as you load into the world. This pack has no recipes that make items from the mod, and no quests involve it.[1]
What to look for first
- Water: entities hitting water create 3D splashes that match the water color. Wider entities make wider splashes, and taller falls make taller splashes.[1]
- Waterfalls: cascades appear when falling water is over 2-block-deep source water and the top source water has at least 1 open side. Their strength depends on the falling water's height and the number of open sides.[1]
- Fireflies: they spawn in warm biomes at flowers and tall grass, and spawn rates are randomized at dusk.[1]
- Falling leaves: each leaves block has its own leaf particle, and leaves create ripples when they land on water. Custom leaves are supported for Traverse, Regions Unexplored and Wilder Wild.[1]
- Caves: dust floats in the air, and its spawn rate depends on depth and sunlight level.[1]
- Underwater storage: opening a chest or barrel underwater releases bubbles, and ender chests release green-tinted bubbles.[1]
Other effects
The mod also adds popping bubbles, ripples from rain and water drips, cake-eating particles and emissive lava drips. Some ripple effects are automatically disabled when shaders are active, so don't be surprised if rain looks different with a shader pack.[1][3]
Tweaking it
If an effect isn't your thing, the mod can disable any of its effects and adjust which biomes should not spawn cave dust. The in-game config screen describes options for fireflies, falling leaves, cave dust, splashes and bubbles, along with advanced settings such as particle colors and opacity.[1][3]
Unverified The exact config file name and any values this pack changed from the mod's defaults could not be confirmed, so check the in-game config screen for the current settings.
How does Particular ✨ Reforged work?
6 parts
Particular is a visual mod: it enhances Minecraft's ambience with hand-crafted effects such as splashes, fireflies, falling leaves and cave dust. This section covers how each effect behaves and how the pack tunes it.[1]
Water splashes and cascades
Splashes are 3D and match the water color. The wider the entity, the wider the splash, and the taller the fall, the taller the splash.[1]
Waterfall cascades appear when falling water is over source water that is over 2 blocks deep, and the top source water has at least 1 open side. Cascade strength scales with the falling water's height and with the number of open sides on the source water.[1]
- general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.minFallDistance is 0 in the pack, which means splashes are always created whatever the fall distance.[3][4]
- general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.splashOpacity is 0.75, so water and lava splash particles are 25% more transparent.[3][4]
- general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.softEntryParticles is on. Gentle water entries use bubbles and tiny falling-water droplets instead of a full splash, while general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.smallDroplets is off.[3][4]
- general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.cuboidSplashDroplets is on, so splash droplets use 1-voxel cuboid particles. general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.cuboidWaterfallSpray is off.[3][4]
- general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.waterCuboidBiomeTint is on, so cuboid spray uses the local biome water color. The fallback general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.waterCuboidColor is white and only matters if tinting is turned off.[3][4]
The pack's general.advancedSettings.customFluidsSettings.waterLikeFluids list treats the tfc river, salt and spring water fluids it names like vanilla water for splashes, rain ripples and waterfall spray. general.advancedSettings.customFluidsSettings.cascadeFluidPairs is empty. The config notes say tfc fluids don't produce cascades because they have no flowing variant.[4]
Fireflies
Fireflies spawn in warm biomes at flowers and tall grass, and spawn rates are randomized at dusk.[1]
- Time window: general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.startTime is 12000 (sunset) and general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.endTime is 23000 (late night).[3][4]
- Temperature range: general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.minTemp is 0.5 and general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.maxTemp is 0.9900000095367432.[3][4]
- Rain: general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.canSpawnInRain is false, so fireflies stay hidden in rainy weather.[3][4]
- Plant frequency modifiers, each from 0.0 to 1.0: flowers 1, tall flowers 0.5, grass 0.16666666666666666 and tall grass 0.08333333333333333. These are general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.flowers, general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.tallFlowers, general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.grass and general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.tallGrass.[3][4]
- The daily random factors in general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.dailyRandom are set to [0,0,0,0.33,0.66,1].[4]
- general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.biomes, general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.spawnBlocks, general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.biomeColors and general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.colorPool are all empty in the pack. With an empty color pool, fireflies use the built-in yellow/blue/red mix.[4]
Falling leaves
Each leaves block has its own leaf particle with varying behavior, and leaves create ripples when they land on water. The mod also has custom falling leaves for Traverse, Regions Unexplored and Wilder Wild.[1]
In the pack, general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.spawnChance is 60 (higher means less frequent). Leaves lay flat on the ground (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatOnGround is true), but they don't snap to 90-degree angles (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatRightAngles is false). Ripples on water are on (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.spawnRipples).[3][4]
Cave dust
Cave dust spawn rates are proportional to depth and sunlight level.[1]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.spawnChance is 700, the mod default. Higher values mean less frequent spawning.[3][4]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.baseMaxAge is 200 ticks (10 seconds), and general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.fadeDuration is 20 ticks (1 second).[3][4]
- Movement: general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.accelChangeChance is 180, a 1 in 180 chance per tick of changing acceleration. general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.maxAcceleration is 0.029999999329447746.[3][4]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.color is 8421504, which is 0x808080 (gray).[3][4]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.excludeBiomes lists minecraft:lush_caves, minecraft:dripstone_caves and minecraft:deep_dark, so no cave dust spawns there.[4]
Underwater bubbles
When a chest or barrel is opened underwater, it releases bubbles, and ender chests release green-tinted bubbles. If you place soul sand under a chest, it opens automatically and releases bubbles.[1]
general.enabledEffects.barrelBubbles is enabled in the pack.[4]
Other effects
The mod also adds popping bubbles, ripples from rain and water drips, cake eating particles and emissive lava drips. Any of the effects can be disabled in the config. The rain and drip ripples are automatically disabled while shaders are active.[1][3]
Which Particular ✨ Reforged config options matter?
6 parts
Everything for Particular lives in one file, config/particular-common.toml. The good news is that this pack leaves the mod's tuning alone for every numeric value that lists a mod default: each one matches the default. So the options below are mostly about knowing what you can switch off or tweak if you want to.[4]
Turning effects on and off
Every toggle under the enabledEffects section is set to true in this pack, so you get the full set of effects. That includes general.enabledEffects.fireflies, general.enabledEffects.fallingLeaves, general.enabledEffects.caveDust, general.enabledEffects.waterSplash and general.enabledEffects.cascades. There is also general.enabledEffects.sableSplashes, which covers splash and wake particles for Sable sub-levels such as ships, boats and vehicles. If any effect hurts your frame rate or just isn't your thing, set its toggle to false.[1][4]
Cave dust
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.spawnChance is 700, the same as the mod default. Higher means less frequent dust.[4]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.excludeBiomes is set to minecraft:lush_caves, minecraft:dripstone_caves and minecraft:deep_dark, so no cave dust spawns in those biomes.[4]
Fireflies
Fireflies spawn from general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.startTime 12000 to general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.endTime 23000, both the mod defaults. The temperature window is general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.minTemp 0.5 up to general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.maxTemp 0.9900000095367432, also defaults. general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.canSpawnInRain is false, so they stay away in the rain.[4]
The extra-customization lists are all empty in this pack: biomes, biomeColors, colorPool and spawnBlocks. That means fireflies use the built-in yellow, blue and red color mix and only follow the temperature rules.[4]
Falling leaves
general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.spawnChance is 60, the mod default, and higher values mean fewer leaves. Leaves lay flat on the ground (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatOnGround is true), they don't snap to right angles (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatRightAngles is false), and they make ripples when they land on water.[4]
Water splashes
- general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.splashOpacity is 0.75 and general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.minFallDistance is 0, both the mod defaults. With a minimum fall distance of 0, no minimum drop is required to trigger a splash.[4]
- Splash droplets use 1-voxel cuboid particles (general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.cuboidSplashDroplets is true), while waterfall spray does not (general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.cuboidWaterfallSpray is false).[4]
- general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.softEntryParticles is true, so soft water entries give bubbles and tiny droplets instead of a full splash. general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.smallDroplets is false.[4]
Modded water
general.advancedSettings.customFluidsSettings.waterLikeFluids lists these tfc fluids: tfc:river_water, tfc:flowing_salt_water, tfc:salt_water, tfc:flowing_spring_water and tfc:spring_water. They are treated like vanilla water for splashes, rain ripples and waterfall spray. general.advancedSettings.customFluidsSettings.cascadeFluidPairs is empty, and the config notes that TFC fluids don't produce cascades because they have no flowing variant.[4]
What changed in Particular ✨ Reforged between versions?
5 parts
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Particular Reforged 1.5.7, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[5]
1.5.7
- Sable ships and boats no longer spam splashes while sailing. A splash now only triggers when a ship actually drops into the water, and cruising leaves a foam wake instead.[6]
- The cave dust exclude biomes list now actually works.[6]
- New config toggle enabledEffects.sableSplashes turns off ship splashes and wakes.[6]
1.5.5 and 1.5.4
- TFC river, salt and spring water now get splash, ripple and spray particles. TFC 1.21 dropped the vanilla water tag override that 1.20 shipped, so the mod ships its own datapack tag entry.[7]
- Fireflies now spawn on modded plants (TFC and others) that override animateTick without calling super. The mod hooked a different method to make coverage consistent across blocks.[7]
- Cascade particles no longer pile up while the game is paused.[7]
- New config lists for custom fluids: customFluidsSettings.waterLikeFluids (fluids treated like vanilla water, defaulting to TFC river, salt and spring water) and customFluidsSettings.cascadeFluidPairs (flowing, source pairs that make cascade waterfalls). TFC fluids don't produce cascades because they have no flowing variant.[7]
- New firefly config options: fireflySettings.biomes (biomes where fireflies always spawn, bypassing the temperature check), fireflySettings.spawnBlocks (extra blocks that spawn fireflies, plus a customBlocks frequency modifier), fireflySettings.biomeColors (per-biome tint) and fireflySettings.colorPool (random colour pool).[7]
- TerraFirmaCraft became an optional dependency so the new config defaults work out of the box.[7]
1.5.2
The changelog for this version carries a bold request to update: it fixed a big lag issue with Create Aeronautics. It also fixed a crash that happened when Create Aeronautics isn't loaded.[8]
1.5.0
This was the big visual update. The Fabric version also reached feature parity with NeoForge.[9]
- Reworked cascade waterfalls: new textures, gentler motion, and bigger waterfalls spawn proportionally more spray.[9]
- Cuboid fluid particles: tiny 1-voxel cubes for splash droplets, on by default. Turn on cuboidWaterfallSpray in the config to extend them to waterfall spray. Lava splashes get cuboid droplets too.[9]
- Soft water entries: stepping into water no longer triggers a full splash. Gentle entries make a small ring of bubbles and droplets, while real falls still give the big splash.[9]
- Splash particles are now translucent, at 75% opacity by default, and this is adjustable in the config.[9]
- Waterfalls are now saved per world and dimension, so cascade spray shows up instantly instead of taking a few seconds. Each remembered waterfall is rechecked once on load to make sure the water is still there. This works in singleplayer and multiplayer.[9]
1.1.7
An early fix that stopped the mod from crashing on servers.[10]
