What is Particular ✨ Reforged?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Particular is a purely visual mod. It adds hand-crafted ambience effects to the world, so it makes Minecraft look and feel more alive without adding new gameplay. The pack ships Particular Reforged 1.5.7, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]
What you'll see
- 3D water splashes that match the water color. Wider entities make wider splashes, and taller falls make taller splashes.[1]
- Waterfall cascades. They appear when falling water is over 2 block deep source water and the top source water has at least 1 open side.[1]
- Fireflies in warm biomes, around flowers and tall grass. Their spawn rates are randomized at dusk.[1]
- Falling leaves. Each leaves block has its own leaf particle, and the leaves create ripples when they land on water.[1]
- Cave dust. The deeper you are and the less sunlight there is, the more of it spawns.[1]
- Bubbles from chests and barrels opened underwater. Ender chests release green-tinted bubbles.[1]
- Smaller touches: popping bubbles, ripples from rain and water drips, cake eating particles and emissive lava drips.[1]
Who it's for
It's for anyone who wants a prettier world and doesn't want to manage anything extra. You can disable any of the effects in the mod's configuration, and you can also adjust which biomes should not spawn cave dust. That's handy if an effect bothers you or costs you frames.[1]
The mod also adds custom falling leaves for Traverse, Regions Unexplored and Wilder Wild. Those only show up if the matching mod is installed.[1]
Where it fits in progression
It doesn't. Particular has no crafting, no machines and no tiers to unlock, so you can't gate or speed up your progress with it. The effects are active from the moment you load in.[1]
Unverified No in-jar guidebook, quests or ATM Star path involvement were found for this mod in the pack, and the pack's own configuration values for it are unconfirmed. If you want to change an effect, check the mod's config in your instance.
How do you get started with Particular ✨ Reforged?
3 parts
Good news: Particular ✨ Reforged needs no crafting. It is a visual mod that adds hand-crafted ambience effects to the world, so your first steps are about knowing what to look for and which effects are switched on in this pack.[1]
Unverified The sources here show no recipes and no quests for this mod, so there is no crafting order to give you. If the pack's quest book or recipes mention it anywhere, that detail is not shown in these sources.
What is switched on
In this pack, nearly every effect is enabled in general.enabledEffects.waterSplash and the other toggles in the same group. The one exception is general.enabledEffects.poppingBubbles, which is set to false, so you will not see popping bubbles unless you change it.[3]
Effects to look for first
- Water splashes: they match the water color, get wider with wider entities and taller with taller falls. The pack sets general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.minFallDistance to 0, so any entry into water can trigger them.[1][3]
- Waterfall cascades: they appear when falling water is over 2 block deep source water and the top source water has at least 1 open side.[1]
- Fireflies: they spawn in warm biomes at flowers and tall grass. In this pack they start at 12000 and stop at 23000 on the daytime clock, and they cannot spawn in rain.[1][3]
- Falling leaves: each leaves block has its own leaf particle, and leaves create ripples when they land on water.[1]
- Cave dust: it is enabled here, but the pack excludes lush caves, dripstone caves and the deep dark through general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.excludeBiomes.[3]
- Bubbles from underwater chests and barrels: opening one underwater releases bubbles, and ender chests give green-tinted bubbles.[1]
Tweaking it
If an effect bothers you or hurts your frame rate, you can disable it in config/particular-common.toml, for example general.enabledEffects.fallingLeaves or general.enabledEffects.fireflies. Cave dust frequency is controlled by general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.spawnChance, where a higher number means less dust.[1][3]
This pack also treats some TFC fluids like vanilla water for splashes, rain ripples and waterfall spray, through general.advancedSettings.customFluidsSettings.waterLikeFluids. Ships, boats and vehicles from Sable get their own water splash and wake particles through general.enabledEffects.sableSplashes.[3]
How does Particular ✨ Reforged work?
7 parts
Particular ✨ Reforged is a mod of hand-crafted visual effects that adds ambience to the world. The mechanics worth knowing are what triggers each effect and which config options the pack uses to tune it. Everything lives in one file, and general.enabledEffects.waterSplash is one of the on/off switches in it.[1][3]
Switching effects on and off
Every effect has its own toggle under the enabledEffects group, so you can turn off anything you do not like. In this pack almost everything is on. The exception is popping bubbles, which is set to false.[1][3]
- On: general.enabledEffects.waterSplash, general.enabledEffects.lavaSplash, general.enabledEffects.cascades, general.enabledEffects.waterfallSpray, general.enabledEffects.fireflies, general.enabledEffects.fallingLeaves and general.enabledEffects.caveDust.[3]
- On: general.enabledEffects.chestBubbles, general.enabledEffects.barrelBubbles, general.enabledEffects.soulSandBubbles, general.enabledEffects.rainRipples, general.enabledEffects.waterDripRipples, general.enabledEffects.cakeEatingParticles and general.enabledEffects.emissiveLavaDrips.[3]
- Off: general.enabledEffects.poppingBubbles.[3]
- On: general.enabledEffects.sableSplashes, which gives water splash and wake particles to Sable sub-levels (ships, boats, vehicles).[3]
Water splashes
Splashes are 3D and match the water color. The wider the entity, the wider the splash, and the taller the fall, the taller the splash.[1]
In this pack general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.minFallDistance is 0, so there is no minimum fall needed before splash particles appear. Splash opacity (general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.splashOpacity) is 0.75, and it applies to both water and lava splashes. With general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.softEntryParticles on, a soft entry into water gives bubbles and tiny falling droplets instead of a full splash. Droplets use 1-voxel cuboid particles (general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.cuboidSplashDroplets), while general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.smallDroplets is off.[3]
Modded water counts too. The pack lists the TFC river, salt and spring water fluids in general.advancedSettings.customFluidsSettings.waterLikeFluids, so they are treated like vanilla water for splashes, rain ripples and waterfall spray.[3]
Cascades and waterfall spray
Cascades appear when falling water is over 2 block deep source water and the top source water has at least 1 open side. Their strength is proportional to the falling water's height and the number of open sides to the source water.[1]
Extra fluids can be added as flowing, source pairs in general.advancedSettings.customFluidsSettings.cascadeFluidPairs, which is empty in this pack. The config notes that TFC fluids do not produce cascades because they have no flowing variant.[3]
Waterfall spray is a separate effect. Here it uses regular particles, because general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.cuboidWaterfallSpray is false. If you turn the cuboid spray on, general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.waterCuboidBiomeTint (on in this pack) tints it with the local biome water color. When tinting is off, the fallback color is general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.waterCuboidColor, set to 16777215.[3]
Fireflies
Fireflies spawn in warm biomes at flowers and tall grass, and spawn rates are randomized at dusk.[1]
- Time window: they start at 12000 (general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.startTime) and stop at 23000 (general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.endTime).[3]
- Temperature: a biome must be between 0.5 (general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.minTemp) and 0.9900000095367432 (general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.maxTemp). Biomes listed in general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.biomes always spawn them and skip this check, but that list is empty here.[3]
- Rain: general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.canSpawnInRain is false, so fireflies do not spawn in rain.[3]
- Flowers modifier: general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.flowers is 1.[3]
- Tall flowers modifier: general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.tallFlowers is 0.5.[3]
- Grass modifier: general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.grass is 0.16666666666666666.[3]
- Tall grass modifier: general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.tallGrass is 0.08333333333333333.[3]
- Daily randomness: general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.dailyRandom holds the daily random factors, set to 0, 0, 0, 0.33, 0.66 and 1.[3]
- Extra spawn blocks: add them to general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.spawnBlocks, which is empty here. Their rate comes from general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.frequencyModifiers.customBlocks, which is 0.16666666666666666.[3]
- Colors: with general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.colorPool and general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.biomeColors both empty, fireflies use the built-in yellow, blue and red mix. A biomeColors entry takes priority over the color pool.[3]
Falling leaves
Each leaves block has a unique leaf particle with varying behavior, and the leaves create ripples when they land on water. The pack sets the spawn chance (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.spawnChance) to 60, where a higher number means less frequent. Leaves lay flat on the ground (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatOnGround is true), but not at right angles (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatRightAngles is false), and ripples on water are on (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.spawnRipples).[1][3]
Cave dust
Cave dust spawn rates are proportional to depth and sunlight level. The pack's values are listed below.[1][3]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.spawnChance is 700, and higher means less frequent.[3]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.baseMaxAge is 200 and general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.fadeDuration is 20.[3]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.maxAcceleration is 0.029999999329447746 and general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.accelChangeChance is 180.[3]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.color is 8421504 (RGB).[3]
- general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.excludeBiomes lists the biomes with no cave dust: minecraft:lush_caves, minecraft:dripstone_caves and minecraft:deep_dark.[3]
Bubbles from chests and barrels
Opening a chest or barrel underwater releases bubbles, and ender chests release green-tinted bubbles.[1]
Which Particular ✨ Reforged config options matter?
5 parts
Everything for this mod lives in one file, config/particular-common.toml. The mod lets you switch off any effect and choose which biomes get no cave dust, and this pack ships a full set of values for both.[1][3]
For every option where the pack's file lists a mod default, the pack value is identical to it. For the toggles and list options, the file doesn't show a mod default, so I can't tell you whether the pack changed them. Here is exactly what the pack sets.[3]
Effect toggles
Nearly every effect is switched on. The one exception is general.enabledEffects.poppingBubbles, which is false in this pack, so popping bubbles don't show up.[3]
- On: general.enabledEffects.fireflies, general.enabledEffects.fallingLeaves, general.enabledEffects.caveDust, general.enabledEffects.cascades and general.enabledEffects.waterfallSpray.[3]
- On: general.enabledEffects.waterSplash, general.enabledEffects.lavaSplash, general.enabledEffects.rainRipples and general.enabledEffects.waterDripRipples.[3]
- On: general.enabledEffects.chestBubbles, general.enabledEffects.barrelBubbles, general.enabledEffects.soulSandBubbles, general.enabledEffects.cakeEatingParticles and general.enabledEffects.emissiveLavaDrips.[3]
- On: general.enabledEffects.sableSplashes, which gives water splash and wake particles for Sable sub-levels such as ships, boats and vehicles.[3]
Cave dust
Cave dust won't spawn in lush caves, dripstone caves or the deep dark, because general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.excludeBiomes lists minecraft:lush_caves, minecraft:dripstone_caves and minecraft:deep_dark. The spawn rate is general.advancedSettings.caveDustSettings.spawnChance = 700 (higher means less frequent), which matches the mod default.[3]
Fireflies
Fireflies use the mod defaults for timing and temperature. They start at general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.startTime = 12000 and stop at general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.endTime = 23000. The temperature window runs from general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.minTemp = 0.5 to general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.maxTemp = 0.9900000095367432.[3]
general.advancedSettings.fireflySettings.canSpawnInRain is false, so rain keeps them away. The lists for always-spawn biomes, per-biome colours, the colour pool and extra spawn blocks are all empty in this pack.[3]
Falling leaves
general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.spawnChance is 60, the mod default. Leaves lay flat on the ground (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatOnGround is true) but not at right angles (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.layFlatRightAngles is false), and they make ripples when they land on water (general.advancedSettings.fallingLeavesSettings.spawnRipples is true).[3]
Water and splash settings
- general.advancedSettings.customFluidsSettings.waterLikeFluids lists tfc:river_water, tfc:flowing_salt_water, tfc:salt_water, tfc:flowing_spring_water and tfc:spring_water. These are treated like vanilla water for splashes, rain ripples and waterfall spray.[3]
- general.advancedSettings.customFluidsSettings.cascadeFluidPairs is empty. The config notes that TFC fluids produce no cascades because they have no flowing variant.[3]
- Splash droplets use 1-voxel cuboid particles (general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.cuboidSplashDroplets is true), while waterfall spray does not (general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.cuboidWaterfallSpray is false). Cuboid spray is tinted with the local biome water colour (general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.waterCuboidBiomeTint is true).[3]
- general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.softEntryParticles is true, so soft water entries give bubbles and tiny falling droplets instead of a full splash. general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.smallDroplets is false.[3]
- general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.splashOpacity is 0.75 and general.advancedSettings.waterSplashSettings.minFallDistance is 0 blocks, both the mod defaults.[3]
What changed in Particular ✨ Reforged between versions?
3 parts
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Particular Reforged 1.5.7, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs for versions 1.5.4, 1.5.5 and 1.5.7.[4][5]
1.5.7 (the version in this pack)
- Sable ships and boats no longer spam splashes while sailing. Splashes now only trigger when a ship actually drops into the water, and cruising leaves a foam wake instead.[6]
- The cave dust exclude biomes list now actually works.[6]
- There is a new sableSplashes toggle under enabledEffects in the config. Turn it off if you want no ship splashes and no wakes.[6]
1.5.5
- TFC river, salt and spring water now gets splash, ripple and spray particles. TFC 1.21 dropped the vanilla water tag override that 1.20 shipped, so the mod now ships its own datapack tag entry.[5]
- Fireflies now spawn on modded plants (TFC and others) that override animateTick without calling super. The hook moved from Block.animateTick to ClientLevel.doAnimateTick so coverage is consistent across blocks.[5]
1.5.4
This release fixed cascade particles piling up while the game is paused. It also added a batch of config options, mostly for custom fluids and fireflies.[5]
- customFluidsSettings.waterLikeFluids is a list of fluid IDs treated like vanilla water for splashes, rain ripples and waterfall spray. The changelog says it defaults to TFC river, salt and spring water.[5]
- customFluidsSettings.cascadeFluidPairs takes "flowing, source" pairs and produces cascade waterfalls for any mod fluid that has both variants. TFC fluids do not produce cascades because they have no flowing variant.[5]
- fireflySettings.biomes lists biome IDs where fireflies always spawn, bypassing the temperature check.[5]
- fireflySettings.spawnBlocks lists extra blocks that spawn fireflies, and there is a customBlocks frequency modifier.[5]
- fireflySettings.biomeColors gives a per-biome RGB tint in the format "biomeId|RRGGBB". fireflySettings.colorPool is a random RGB pool in the format "RRGGBB".[5]
- TerraFirmaCraft became an optional dependency, so the new config defaults work out of the box.[5]
