Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 1.21.1-2.0.2. Introducing modular jewelcrafting, featuring gems and jewelry! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

2 parts

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is a modular jewelcrafting mod. You build pieces of jewelry from a pattern plus materials, and the mod advertises more than 10,000 combinations, along with 7 new obtainable gemstone items. This pack includes version 1.21.1-2.0.2.[1][2]

How it works

You craft jewelry from a pattern at the Jewelcrafting Station. Some patterns you know from the start. Others you unlock by looting or trading for Artisan Scroll items.[1]

Each pattern gives a type of bonus, such as bonus attributes. The materials decide the specific bonus, and the quality of those materials decides how strong it is. The more precious the gems, the more powerful the piece.[1]

The mod also adds a villager profession. Jewelers work at a Jewelcrafting Station, buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry, and sell more advanced patterns.[1]

Tip: The mod needs Iron's Lib, Atlas API and Curios API to run.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Jewelry shows up in the pack's "gearing_up" quest chapter. The chapter starts with a quest that asks you to get a Jewelcrafting Station ("Iron's Gems & Jewelry!" quest).[3]

Two quests unlock after that one, and both ask for Artisan Scrolls: "Duality Jewelry" quest and "Artisan Scrolls" quest. Another quest, "Inscribing Runes" quest, follows the second of them and also involves an Artisan Scroll.[3]

So the quest book wants you to build the station first, then start collecting patterns. If you like adding stat bonuses to your gear, this is the mod for you.[1][3]

Unverified The sources do not say whether the pack changes any of this mod's recipes, configs or pattern availability, so treat the mod's default behavior as unconfirmed for this pack.

How do you get started with Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

4 parts

Welcome to Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry! In this mod you build modular jewelry from patterns and materials, and everything centres on one block: the Jewelcrafting Station. Here is the order I'd follow in this pack.[1]

Step by step

  1. Craft Jewelcrafting and You first. It's the in-mod guide to Gems 'n Jewelry, and its pattern screen tells you whether each pattern is unlocked by default or still locked.[4][5]
  2. Get a Jewelcrafting Station. Jewelry is crafted from a pattern at this block, and it's the task of quest "Iron's Gems & Jewelry!" quest, which has nothing before it in the gearing_up chapter.[1][3]
  3. Craft with the patterns you already know. Some patterns are unlocked by default and can be crafted right away at the station.[1][5]
  4. Go hunting for more patterns. The others need an Artisan Scroll, which you get by looting or trading.[1][5]

This is the pack's recipe for the guide.

If you lose your guide or want a spare, there's also a second recipe that turns a guide plus a book into another guide.[4]

Using the guide

The guide's pattern screen lets you select a part for more info. Each pattern entry also tells you whether it's unlocked by default, or locked and in need of an Artisan Scroll. The primary part of a piece decides the quality of the whole piece of jewelry, so choose that material carefully.[5]

Following the quests

The gearing_up chapter lines up neatly with the steps above. After the station quest, quests "Duality Jewelry" quest and "Artisan Scrolls" quest both unlock, and both ask for an Artisan Scroll. Quest "Duality Jewelry" quest has two of those tasks. Quest "Inscribing Runes" quest comes after "Artisan Scrolls" quest and its first task is also an Artisan Scroll. The quest data here doesn't say which patterns those scrolls are for.[3]

Where to find patterns

Most of the patterns whose guide text I could check can be found or traded for throughout the world. Two have more specific sources: the Haggler Ring pattern is traded for from Jewelers, and the Piglin Signet Ring pattern is found in Nether Fortresses and Bastions. Jewelers are villagers who work at a Jewelcrafting Station, and they also buy and sell materials and finished jewelry.[1][5]

Tip: Better materials make stronger bonuses, and the primary part scales the potency of all bonuses on the piece, so don't spend your best gems on the first piece you craft.[1][5]

How does Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry work?

6 parts

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is built around a single block: the Jewelcrafting Station. You craft modular jewelry there from a pattern plus materials, and the mod advertises 10,000+ possible combinations.[1][5]

Patterns and Artisan Scrolls

Jewelry is crafted from a pattern at the Jewelcrafting Station. Some patterns are known by default, while others have to be unlocked by looting or trading for Artisan Scrolls.[1]

  • The mod's screen text says a locked pattern needs an Artisan Scroll to learn, while a pattern unlocked by default can be crafted immediately at the station.[5]
  • Most patterns (such as the Bane Ring, Stalwart Ring and Tearstone Ring) can be found or traded for throughout the world. The Haggler Ring is traded for from Jewelers, and the Piglin Signet Ring is found in Nether Fortresses and Bastions.[5]
  • If you already know a pattern, its tooltip tells you it is already learned.[5]

Materials, parts and bonuses

Each pattern gives a type of bonus, such as bonus attributes. The materials you use decide the specific bonus, and the quality of those materials decides how strong it is.[1]

Every piece has a primary part, and that part sets the quality of the whole piece. When a material is used as the primary part, the potency of all the bonuses on the item is scaled by that material's quality value.[5]

The mod's text describes these bonus types:[5]

  • Immunity to an effect.[5]
  • Gaining an effect for a number of seconds when you are hit.[5]
  • An effect that triggers on projectile hit.[5]
  • Making Piglins neutral.[5]
  • A discount on items when trading.[5]

Item tooltips also show an "Applicable Materials" list and a "Bonuses when Crafted" header, so check them before you spend rare materials.[5]

The Jeweler

Villagers can work at a Jewelcrafting Station as the Jeweler profession. Jewelers buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry and sell the secrets of more advanced patterns. This is also the route to the Haggler Ring pattern.[1][5]

Gems

The mod adds seven gemstones: Garnet, Moonstone, Onyx, Peridot, Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz. In this pack, a script adds Topaz, Moonstone, Peridot, Onyx and Garnet to a tag named ftb:jewelry_gem, alongside many gems and crystals from other mods.[1][5][6]

The same script also defines tags named ftb:jewelry_metal and ftb:jewelry_rune, filled with ingots from other mods and with Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks runes.[6]

Pack settings

The pack sets Worldgen.enableDynamicJewelryLoot to false. By default (true) the mod inserts jewelry into loot tables based on their contents, for example tables with gems and equipment. In this pack that does not happen, so you will mostly get jewelry through crafting, patterns and trading.[7]

Worldgen.jewelerHouseWeight is 2, the same as the mod default. It controls how often the Jeweler's House generates in villages.[7]

The guide book

Jewelcrafting and You is the mod's in-game guide to Gems 'n Jewelry. Inside, you select a part of a pattern to see more info about it. It has two recipes in the pack: one to make it, and one to duplicate a copy you already own.[4][5]

How do you progress through Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

2 parts

In this pack, the quest book covers Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry in the Gearing Up chapter. The quests there are untitled, so the order below comes from how they connect and which items they ask for.[3]

The quest path

  1. Start with "Iron's Gems & Jewelry!" quest. It asks you to get a Jewelcrafting Station, and the other quests in the chapter follow from it.[3]
  2. Next you can take "Artisan Scrolls" quest, which unlocks after the station quest and asks for an Artisan Scroll (the Artisan Scroll).[3]
  3. "Duality Jewelry" quest also unlocks right after the station quest. Both of its tasks ask for an Artisan Scroll.[3]
  4. "Inscribing Runes" quest comes after "Artisan Scrolls" quest. One of its tasks asks for another Artisan Scroll.[3]

Getting the guide

The mod's guide item is Jewelcrafting and You. In this pack you craft it with the recipe below.[4]

There is also a second recipe that makes another copy of the guide from one you already have.[4]

How does Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry work with other mods?

2 parts

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry has only a small set of crossovers in this pack. The pack data shows one custom machine recipe that uses the mod's station alongside items from another mod, plus a short run of quests built around the mod's items.[3][4]

Custom machine recipe

The pack adds its own custom machine recipe that involves the Jewelcrafting Station and ties it to Ars Nouveau through Archwood Planks. Because the pack added it, you won't find this recipe in the mod on its own. The exact in-pack recipe is below.[4]

Added by the pack

Custom Machine (custommachinery)

Recipe id: ftb:world_engine/jewelcrafting_station

Added by the pack as a custom machine recipe. Vanilla Copper Ingot and Lapis Lazuli appear in it too.

Quests in the gearing_up chapter

The pack's gearing_up quest chapter has a small chain built around this mod. It starts with a quest whose task is the Jewelcrafting Station: "Iron's Gems & Jewelry!" quest.[3]

Right after that quest come "Duality Jewelry" quest, whose tasks are Artisan Scrolls, and "Artisan Scrolls" quest, which asks for an Artisan Scroll. A further quest, "Inscribing Runes" quest, follows the latter and also includes an Artisan Scroll task.[3]

Artisan Scrolls are how you unlock more advanced jewelry patterns, and you get them by looting or by trading with villagers.[1]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

1 part

In this pack, the mod appears in one quest chapter, called "gearing_up". The quests have no titles in the pack files, so they are identified by their IDs below.[3]

Quest order in Gearing Up

  1. "Iron's Gems & Jewelry!" quest is the starting point. Its task is to get a Jewelcrafting Station. Every other quest in this chapter for the mod comes after it, directly or indirectly.[3]
  2. "Duality Jewelry" quest unlocks after the station quest. Its tasks are item tasks for the Artisan Scroll (Artisan Scroll), listed twice.[3]
  3. "Artisan Scrolls" quest also unlocks after the station quest, so you can do it before or after the previous quest. Its task is the Artisan Scroll.[3]
  4. "Inscribing Runes" quest comes after "Artisan Scrolls" quest. One of its tasks is the Artisan Scroll, and it has another item task alongside it.[3]
Tip: Start with the Jewelcrafting Station. The other quests for this mod in the chapter all depend on that quest.[3]

Which Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry config options matter?

2 parts

Good news: Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry only has two worldgen options that this pack's server config spells out, and one of them is a change from the mod's default. Both live in config/irons_jewelry-server.toml.[7]

Dynamic jewelry loot (changed by the pack)

Worldgen.enableDynamicJewelryLoot is set to false in this pack. The mod's default is true. When it's on, the mod looks at what a loot table contains and automatically slips jewelry items into tables that have gems and equipment. With this pack turning it off, that automatic insertion doesn't happen, so you shouldn't expect jewelry to turn up in other loot tables just because they contain gems or gear.[7]

Tip: If you were hoping to find jewelry by raiding random chests, don't count on it in this pack. The pack disables the automatic insertion of jewelry into loot tables.[7]

Jeweler's House weight (mod default)

Worldgen.jewelerHouseWeight controls how likely the Jeweler's House is to be picked in village generation. This pack sets it to 2, which is the same as the mod's default, so the pack hasn't touched it.[7]

The mod also adds a Jeweler villager profession that works at a Jewelcrafting Station, buying and selling materials and finished jewelry and selling more advanced patterns.[1]

Unverified Other options in the mod's configs, such as anything outside the two worldgen settings above, weren't included in the pack files I had, so I can't say whether this pack changes them.
