What is Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is a modular jewelcrafting mod. You build pieces of jewelry from a pattern plus materials, and the mod advertises more than 10,000 combinations, along with 7 new obtainable gemstone items. This pack includes version 1.21.1-2.0.2.[1][2]
How it works
You craft jewelry from a pattern at the Jewelcrafting Station. Some patterns you know from the start. Others you unlock by looting or trading for Artisan Scroll items.[1]
Each pattern gives a type of bonus, such as bonus attributes. The materials decide the specific bonus, and the quality of those materials decides how strong it is. The more precious the gems, the more powerful the piece.[1]
The mod also adds a villager profession. Jewelers work at a Jewelcrafting Station, buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry, and sell more advanced patterns.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
Jewelry shows up in the pack's "gearing_up" quest chapter. The chapter starts with a quest that asks you to get a Jewelcrafting Station (a quest in "?").[3]
Two quests unlock after that one, and both ask for Artisan Scrolls: a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". Another quest, a quest in "?", follows the second of them and also involves an Artisan Scroll.[3]
So the quest book wants you to build the station first, then start collecting patterns. If you like adding stat bonuses to your gear, this is the mod for you.[1][3]
Unverified The sources do not say whether the pack changes any of this mod's recipes, configs or pattern availability, so treat the mod's default behavior as unconfirmed for this pack.
How do you get started with Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?
3 parts
Jewelry in this mod is all about one block: the Jewelcrafting Station. Jewelry is crafted from a pattern at that station, so it's the first thing you want to get your hands on.[1]
Get a Jewelcrafting Station
The pack's gearing_up quest chapter starts the jewelry line with a quest that asks for the Jewelcrafting Station, a quest in "?". Every other jewelry quest in that chapter comes after it, so treat it as your starting point.[4]
Collect Artisan Scrolls
Some patterns are known to you from the start. Others have to be unlocked with Artisan Scroll, which you can find by looting or by trading. More advanced patterns are sold by Jewelers, the villagers who work at a Jewelcrafting Station.[1]
The quest book follows the same path. Once the station quest is done, a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" both unlock, and each has Artisan Scroll tasks. a quest in "?" comes after the second of those.[4]
Pick a pattern and materials
Each pattern gives a type of bonus, such as bonus attributes. The materials you use decide the specific bonus, and their quality decides how strong it is. The more precious the gems, the more powerful the piece.[1]
Tooltips help here. They list the applicable materials for a pattern and show the bonuses you get when the piece is crafted.[5]
Some bonuses you can look out for are immunity to an effect, gaining an effect when hit, making Piglins neutral, and discounts when trading with villagers.[5]
How does Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry work?
6 parts
Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is a modular jewelcrafting mod. Everything runs through one block, the Jewelcrafting Station. You craft jewelry there from a pattern plus materials.[1][5]
The Jewelcrafting Station
You craft jewelry from a pattern at the Jewelcrafting Station. The mod advertises more than 10,000 modular combinations, which come from mixing patterns with different materials.[1]
Each pattern gives a type of bonus, such as bonus attributes. The materials you use decide the specific bonus, and their quality decides how strong it is. The better the gems, the stronger the piece.[1]
The station's screen has tooltips that help you plan. One lists the applicable materials for a pattern, and another shows the bonuses you get when the piece is crafted. The language file lists Ring and Necklace as jewelry items.[5]
Gems
The mod adds 7 obtainable gemstone items: Garnet, Moonstone, Onyx, Peridot, Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz. They are the precious materials you feed into your jewelry.[1][5]
Patterns and Artisan Scrolls
Some patterns are known to the player by default. Others are unlocked by looting or trading for Artisan Scrolls. If you try to learn a pattern you already know, the tooltip tells you it is already learned.[1][5]
Bonus types
The language file shows the kinds of bonus a piece of jewelry can carry:[5]
- Immunity to a chosen effect.[5]
- When you are hit, you gain an effect for a number of seconds.[5]
- An effect that triggers when your projectile hits.[5]
- Piglins become neutral toward you.[5]
- A discount on items when trading.[5]
The Jeweler villager
The mod adds a new villager profession, the Jeweler, who works at a Jewelcrafting Station. Jewelers buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry, and sell more advanced patterns.[1][5]
Pack settings that affect it
This pack turns off Worldgen.enableDynamicJewelryLoot, which is set to false. The mod's default is true. When it is on, jewelry is automatically added to loot tables that contain gems and equipment. In this pack, you shouldn't expect jewelry to be injected into loot that way.[6]
Worldgen.jewelerHouseWeight is 2 in this pack, the same as the mod's default. It controls how often the Jeweler's House generates in villages.[6]
How do you progress through Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?
1 part
In this pack, the quest book gives the mod a short path in the gearing_up chapter. It starts with the crafting station and then branches into quests that ask you for Artisan Scrolls.[4]
The quest path
- Start with quest a quest in "?". Its task is to obtain the Jewelcrafting Station. Every other quest for this mod comes after it.[4]
- Once that is done, quests a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" both open up. Their tasks use the Artisan Scroll, and quest a quest in "?" lists that task more than once.[4]
- Quest a quest in "?" comes after a quest in "?". Its tasks include the Artisan Scroll.[4]
The path is not strictly linear. After the station, you can go for either Artisan Scroll quest first. The last quest in the chain only unlocks once you finish a quest in "?", while a quest in "?" is a side branch off the station quest.[4]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?
1 part
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
In this pack, the mod appears in one quest chapter, called "gearing_up". The quests have no titles in the pack files, so they are identified by their IDs below.[3]
Quest order in Gearing Up
- a quest in "?" is the starting point. Its task is to get a Jewelcrafting Station. Every other quest in this chapter for the mod comes after it, directly or indirectly.[3]
- a quest in "?" unlocks after the station quest. Its tasks are item tasks for the Artisan Scroll (Artisan Scroll), listed twice.[3]
- a quest in "?" also unlocks after the station quest, so you can do it before or after the previous quest. Its task is the Artisan Scroll.[3]
- a quest in "?" comes after a quest in "?". One of its tasks is the Artisan Scroll, and it has another item task alongside it.[3]
Which Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry config options matter?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Good news: Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry only has two worldgen options that this pack's server config spells out, and one of them is a change from the mod's default. Both live in config/irons_jewelry-server.toml.[7]
Dynamic jewelry loot (changed by the pack)
Worldgen.enableDynamicJewelryLoot is set to false in this pack. The mod's default is true. When it's on, the mod looks at what a loot table contains and automatically slips jewelry items into tables that have gems and equipment. With this pack turning it off, that automatic insertion doesn't happen, so you shouldn't expect jewelry to turn up in other loot tables just because they contain gems or gear.[7]
Jeweler's House weight (mod default)
Worldgen.jewelerHouseWeight controls how likely the Jeweler's House is to be picked in village generation. This pack sets it to 2, which is the same as the mod's default, so the pack hasn't touched it.[7]
The mod also adds a Jeweler villager profession that works at a Jewelcrafting Station, buying and selling materials and finished jewelry and selling more advanced patterns.[1]
Unverified Other options in the mod's configs, such as anything outside the two worldgen settings above, weren't included in the pack files I had, so I can't say whether this pack changes them.
