What is Rain Shield?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

This pack includes Rain Shield at version 2.0.1, shipped as the file RainShield-1.21.1-2.0.1.jar.[1]

It is not a recent addition. It was first included in version 1.0.1 of the pack or earlier, so it has been on the mod list for a long time.[1]

Unverified The sources here do not show what Rain Shield does in practice, so this guide does not describe its behavior, items or settings. They also do not show where the pack's quest book places the mod, or whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the quest book itself for that.

How do you get started with Rain Shield?

2 parts

There is only one thing to make with this mod, and it's a nice simple one: the Rain Shield from Rain Shield. So your first step is just to craft it.[2][3]

Step 1: Craft the Rain Shield

The Rain Shield is a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod itself. The pack doesn't list any change to it. The block below shows the exact in-pack recipe, so follow that in a crafting table.[2]

Step 2: Place it where you want dry skies

The Rain Shield is a block. Its job is to stop rain from being rendered within a set range around it. That makes it handy for a base where you don't want rain streaking across your view.[3]

The range is controlled by a distance option in the mod's settings. Its description says it defines the range in which the Rain Shield stops rendering rain.[3]

Unverified The exact range value is not shown in the sources here. The mod has a setting called rainShieldDistance for it, but the pack has no config file for this mod listed, so check in-game if you need the number.

How does Rain Shield work?

3 parts

Rain Shield is a very small mod, and everything the sources confirm comes down to one block: the Rain Shield. It has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item handling, so there is nothing to automate here.[2][3][4]

What the Rain Shield does

The mod's own option text describes the block as defining the range in which the Rain Shield stops rendering rain. So it is about what you see: rain is not drawn inside that range around the block.[3]

Getting one

The Rain Shield is made in a crafting table with a shaped recipe that comes from the mod itself. The pack's recipe is shown below.[2]

Breaking and moving it

When the block is broken it drops itself as one Rain Shield item, so you can pick it up and place it somewhere else. Its loot table also has a survives-explosion condition.[4]

Unverified The mod has a rainShieldDistance option that sets the range in which rain stops rendering. The sources here do not show its value or the config file it lives in, so check the config in your own instance for the actual range.

How do you progress through Rain Shield?

2 parts

Rain Shield doesn't have a tier ladder in this pack. The sources show a single item, Rain Shield from Rain Shield, so there are no upgrade steps to climb.[2][4]

Getting it

You craft it with a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod itself. The pack's recipe dump doesn't mark it as changed, so this is the recipe you'll use in the pack. The block below shows it exactly as it appears in-game.[2]

Picking it back up

If you break a placed Rain Shield, its loot table gives the same item back. That drop is subject to the explosion survival condition, so a block caught in an explosion may not drop anything.[4]

Unverified The sources here do not show where Rain Shield sits in the pack's progression, or whether any quest chapter mentions it. If you want to know, check the pack's quest book directly.
