What is Rain Shield?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

This pack includes Rain Shield at version 2.0.1, shipped as the file RainShield-1.21.1-2.0.1.jar.[1]

It is not a recent addition. It was first included in version 1.0.1 of the pack or earlier, so it has been on the mod list for a long time.[1]

Unverified The sources here do not show what Rain Shield does in practice, so this guide does not describe its behavior, items or settings. They also do not show where the pack's quest book places the mod, or whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the quest book itself for that.

How do you get started with Rain Shield?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 guide

Getting started with this mod is simple: the recipe in the pack makes the Rain Shield, and it's a block you can place in the world.[2][3]

Craft the Rain Shield

The Rain Shield uses a shaped crafting recipe, so the ingredients have to go in the right pattern. The recipe dump lists it as a mod recipe, so it comes from the mod itself. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[2]

Rain ShieldMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
Empty slotFlintEmpty slot
Empty slotany blaze rodEmpty slot
any netherrackany netherrackany netherrack

Recipe id: rainshield:rain_shield

This is a shaped crafting recipe, so follow the pattern shown.

Some of the ingredients are tags rather than single items. Any item in the netherracks tag and any item in the blaze rods tag will work, which gives you some flexibility with what you use.[2]

How does Rain Shield work?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

Rain Shield adds a single block to the pack: Rain Shield. The sources I have don't describe any machine, multiblock, power, fluid or item handling for it, so this section stays short and covers only what can be confirmed.[4][5]

Crafting it

The Rain Shield is made with a shaped crafting recipe. The pack dump lists it as the mod's own recipe, so nothing in the sources shows the pack changing it. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[5]

Rain ShieldMod recipe

Breaking and picking it up

When you break a placed Rain Shield, it drops one Rain Shield with no tool requirement listed in its loot table. The drop only happens if the block survives an explosion, so if you blow one up, don't count on getting it back.[6]

Unverified What the Rain Shield actually does once placed (its range, any effect on weather, and whether it uses power or has any automation hooks) is not covered by the available sources, and the pack has no config files for this mod.

How do you progress through Rain Shield?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

There isn't a tier ladder to climb with this one. The recipe list for the pack shows just one recipe that makes a Rain Shield item, so Rain Shield is a single craft with no upgraded versions.[5]

It's a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod itself. Here's exactly what the pack uses:[5]

Rain ShieldMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
Empty slotFlintEmpty slot
Empty slotany blaze rodEmpty slot
any netherrackany netherrackany netherrack

Recipe id: rainshield:rain_shield

Some slots accept any item from a tag, so you can use whichever matching item you have on hand.

The block's loot table drops Rain Shield itself when it is broken, so you can pick it up and move it later. The loot table also has an explosion check, so don't count on getting it back if an explosion destroys it.[6]

Which Rain Shield config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

Rain Shield only has one option worth knowing about in this pack, and it lives in the client config. It is a client-side file, so it only affects what you see on your own screen.[7]

Rain Shield distance

General.rainShieldDistance sets the range in which the Rain Shield stops rain from rendering. This pack sets it to 80, which is the same as the mod default of 80, so nothing has been changed here. The value must be greater than 1.[7]

Tip: If you want a bigger or smaller dry area around your Rain Shield, edit this value in the client config. The pack's own value is 80, so that is what you get unless you change it yourself.[7]
