What is MI Tweaks?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
MI Tweaks is a small addon for Modern Industrialization. It adds configurable tweaks to existing machine mechanics, and it's built for modpack creators and addon developers who want to shape how MI plays in their pack. This pack includes version 1.9.5-1.21.1.[1][2]
The key thing to know is that every tweak is disabled by default. Unless a pack turns an option on, the mod doesn't change how MI behaves.[1]
What it adds
- Flux Transformer: a block that takes in EU, stores it, and converts it to FE when extracted. By default in the mod it takes HV, stores 204.8k EU, converts at 1:1 and doesn't limit the FE extract rate in practice.[1]
- Extra recipe conditions: a required EBF coil, or a minimum machine hull voltage, which let a pack gate recipes more freely than MI's EU/t-based method.[1]
- Voltage integration: options that make a machine's voltage matter, through the voltage recipe condition and voltage-based machine speed. A machine's voltage comes from the hull in its hull slot.[1]
- Efficiency behavior: choose how efficiency works in electric machines, or hide the efficiency bar and information in machine UIs.[1]
- Machine blueprints: items that can show a multiblock's shape and auto-place its blocks from your inventory. The mod gives no survival way to obtain them, so that's left to the pack.[1]
- Smaller tweaks: water pumps can require an ocean or river biome, crafting machine efficiency can be locked with the redstone control module, and energy bar tooltips can show current consumption.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
Unverified The sources don't show which MI Tweaks options this pack enables or changes from the defaults. The mod isn't on the ATM Star quest path, and no quests in this pack involve it, so there's no quest-driven progression to follow for it.
How do you get started with MI Tweaks?
3 parts
MI Tweaks is a small addon for Modern Industrialization that adds configurable tweaks to existing mechanics. It only adds a couple of things you craft, so your first steps are short: one block worth making early, and one item you can ignore for now.[1]
Step 1: Make a Flux Transformer
The Flux Transformer is the one item here that does real work. It takes in EU (Modern Industrialization's energy), stores it, and hands it out as FE, the energy most other mods use. That makes it your bridge when you want machine power to feed something that runs on FE.[1][3]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | ||
| Empty slot | any fe cable | |
| Empty slot |
Recipe id: mi_tweaks:flux_transformer
The recipe takes a cable from the FE cables tag, so any cable in that tag works.
In this pack the conversion rate is set to 1, so you get 1 FE for every EU. It holds 204,800 EU, and the FE extraction limit is 9,223,372,036,854,776,000. These match the mod defaults. You can see them in flux_transformer.conversion_rate, flux_transformer.capacity and flux_transformer.max_extract.[5]
Step 2: Know what the pack changed
- Efficiency is forced to the maximum on electric machines, because the pack sets efficiency.hack to ALWAYS_MAX. The efficiency bar is still shown, as efficiency.hide is false.[5]
- Machine and hatch voltage is displayed, and the energy bar tooltip shows the machine's current consumption. These are tweaks.display_machine_voltage and tweaks.display_energy_consumption_on_energy_bar.[5]
- Wrenches render multiblock shapes in the world, thanks to tweaks.wrenches_render_multiblock_shapes. That is handy when you build your first multiblock.[5]
Skip machine blueprints for now
The Machine Blueprint exists so a pack can require something extra before you place certain machines. This pack leaves that off: the placing, hatch-rendering and tooltip requirements are all DISABLED, and the list of machines that need blueprints is empty. You don't need a blueprint to build anything.[1][5]
If you do end up holding one, you can duplicate it with paper.[4]
This copies a blueprint you already have.
How does MI Tweaks work?
5 parts
MI Tweaks is an addon for Modern Industrialization that adds configurable tweaks to MI's existing mechanics. It is built for pack makers and its tweaks are off by default, so what you actually experience depends on the values this pack sets in its config file. Everything below describes those pack values.[1][5]
Efficiency
This pack sets efficiency.hack to ALWAYS_MAX, so electric machines are forced to run at max efficiency. The other modes are DISABLED, which leaves MI's own efficiency behavior alone, and ALWAYS_BASE, which runs at the base machine EU (or the recipe EU if that is greater) plus upgrades. The setting only applies to electric machines.[5]
efficiency.hide is false, so the efficiency bar and multiblock efficiency data stay visible in machine screens.[5]
The pack also ships casing max overclock overrides, but they are inactive, because efficiency.use_casing_max_overclock_overrides is false. If a pack maker turned it on, it would take over from the hack mode's max efficiency behavior. It would apply to electric machines and also to multiblocks, which use the casing of their highest tier energy hatch. These are the stored values for each tier:[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.lv is 32.[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.mv is 128.[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.hv is 512.[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.ev is 2048.[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.superconductor is 8192.[5]
Voltage
In MI, a machine's voltage by default only decides which cable tiers it can accept power from. MI Tweaks can make voltage matter more, and the voltage of a machine comes from the hull in its machine hull slot. This pack turns on tweaks.display_machine_voltage, so voltage shows on machines, including hatches and hulls.[1][5]
Recipe authors also get two extra process conditions: one that requires a specific EBF coil, independent of the recipe's EU/t cost, and one that requires a hull of a given voltage or higher. This section does not cover which recipes in the pack use them.[1]
Flux Transformer and EU Transformer
The Flux Transformer takes in EU (MI's energy), stores it, and converts it to FE (the energy most other mods use) when it is extracted. The pack's capacity is 204,800 EU and its conversion rate is 1, so the pack does not change the mod's defaults for either. The in-game help text shows the rate as FE per EU.[1][3][5]
The maximum FE extracted at a time is set by flux_transformer.max_extract, which is 9,223,372,036,854,776,000 in this pack. Capacity and conversion are flux_transformer.capacity and flux_transformer.conversion_rate.[5]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | ||
| Empty slot | any fe cable | |
| Empty slot |
Recipe id: mi_tweaks:flux_transformer
The pack's recipe accepts any cable from the FE cables tag.
The mod also has an EU Transformer that works the other way, converting FE to EU. Its help text shows the rate as EU per FE. In this pack, eu_transformer.capacity is 204,800 EU, eu_transformer.conversion_rate is 1, and eu_transformer.max_insert is 9,223,372,036,854,776,000.[3][5]
Machine blueprints
A Machine Blueprint is made for one specific machine. Held like a wrench, it shows the shape of that machine's multiblock. Right-click a multiblock controller with its matching blueprint and it takes the blocks from your inventory and places them for you.[1]
Pack makers can require blueprints for placing machines, for showing hatch positions while you hold hatches, and for a tooltip warning. In this pack all three modes (machine_blueprints.required.placing, machine_blueprints.required.rendering_hatches and machine_blueprints.required.tooltip) are DISABLED. The machine_blueprints.machines list is empty and machine_blueprints.learning is false. In practice, no machine here needs a blueprint to be placed.[1][5]
The mod itself gives no way to obtain blueprints in survival. The only blueprint recipe in the pack's list for this mod's items copies an existing one using paper.[1][4]
Copies a Machine Blueprint.
Other tweaks
- tweaks.wrenches_render_multiblock_shapes is true, so wrenches show multiblock shapes in the world, not just blueprints.[5]
- tweaks.display_energy_consumption_on_energy_bar is true, so the energy bar tooltip shows the machine's current energy consumption.[5]
- tweaks.require_water_biome_for_pump is false, so water pumps do not need a river or ocean biome.[5]
- tweaks.lock_efficiency_with_redstone is false, so a redstone module that locks a machine only locks the crafting operation, not the efficiency.[5]
- tweaks.disable_item_fuel_in_multiblock_boilers and tweaks.lock_boiler_temperature_with_redstone are both false, so multiblock boilers accept item fuel and lose fuel and heat when a redstone module locks them.[5]
- tweaks.very_hot_items_burn_time is 100 ticks of burn time, applied when you hold an item tagged mi_tweaks:very_hot.[5]
How do you progress through MI Tweaks?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
The pack's recipe data shows how a couple of MI Tweaks items are made, so this section sticks to those recipes. The sources don't lay out a tier breakdown for the mod.[6]
Flux Transformer
The Flux Transformer is made in a normal crafting grid with a shaped recipe, and the pack has changed that recipe. Follow the one below and don't rely on what the mod ships by default.[6]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: mi_tweaks:flux_transformer
This is the pack's changed recipe, not the mod default.
Copying Machine Blueprints
You can duplicate a Machine Blueprint with the mod's own copy recipe. The pack doesn't change it.[6]
This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.
Unverified No quests in this pack involve MI Tweaks, so the quest book gives no guided progression for it, and the sources here show no further tier breakdown.
How does MI Tweaks work with other mods?
2 parts
MI Tweaks is an addon for Modern Industrialization, so its main link with the rest of the pack is on the energy side. Its one block, the Flux Transformer, takes MI's EU and turns it into FE, the common energy that many other mods use.[1]
Flux Transformer: EU in, FE out
The Flux Transformer takes in EU of a configurable voltage, stores it internally, and converts it to FE when the energy is extracted. That makes it the bridge between an MI power network and machines from other mods that run on FE.[1]
These are the mod's own defaults: it accepts HV, stores 204.8k EU, converts at 1:1, and has an FE extract limit of 2^63-1. The voltage, the conversion rate and the FE extract limit have config options, so a pack can set different values.[1]
How it is crafted
The crafting recipe is where the integration shows up in the pack. It combines parts from Modern Industrialization with cables from the shared FE cables tag, so any cable in that tag works for the FE side.[4]

The FE cable slots accept any item in the FE cables tag, so you can use whichever FE cable you already have.
Which MI Tweaks config options matter?
4 parts
All of the options below live in the startup config for MI Tweaks. A few of them are worth knowing about because they change how your machines behave day to day.[5]
Efficiency
The big one is efficiency.hack, which the pack sets to ALWAYS_MAX. On electric machines, efficiency is always forced to max. The other allowed values are DISABLED (no change to MI's efficiency behavior) and ALWAYS_BASE (base machine EU, or the recipe EU if it's greater, plus upgrades).[5]
efficiency.hide is false, so the efficiency bar and multiblock efficiency data stay visible.[5]
The override values are still written in the config. They only matter if that toggle is switched on:[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.lv is 32.[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.mv is 128.[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.hv is 512.[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.ev is 2,048.[5]
- efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.superconductor is 8,192.[5]
EU and Flux transformers
- eu_transformer.capacity is 204,800, the same as the mod default.[5]
- eu_transformer.conversion_rate is 1, the mod default. It is the multiplier applied to FE to get EU.[5]
- eu_transformer.max_insert is left at the mod default.[5]
- flux_transformer.capacity is 204,800, the mod default.[5]
- flux_transformer.conversion_rate is 1, the mod default. It is the multiplier applied to EU to get FE, so the conversion is 1:1.[5]
- flux_transformer.max_extract is left at the mod default.[5]
Quality of life tweaks
- tweaks.display_energy_consumption_on_energy_bar is true, so the energy bar tooltip shows the machine's current energy consumption.[5]
- tweaks.display_machine_voltage is true, so machine voltage is shown, including on hatches and hulls.[5]
- tweaks.wrenches_render_multiblock_shapes is true, so wrenches show multiblock shapes in the world.[5]
- tweaks.very_hot_items_burn_time is 100 ticks, the mod default. It applies to items tagged mi_tweaks:very_hot.[5]
Restrictions the pack leaves off
Several optional restrictions are all false in this pack: tweaks.disable_item_fuel_in_multiblock_boilers, tweaks.lock_boiler_temperature_with_redstone, tweaks.lock_efficiency_with_redstone and tweaks.require_water_biome_for_pump. In practice, item fuel is not blocked in multiblock boilers, and pumps don't need a river or ocean biome.[5]
Machine blueprints are switched off too. machine_blueprints.learning is false, the machine_blueprints.machines list is empty, and the placing, hatch rendering and tooltip requirements (machine_blueprints.required.placing, machine_blueprints.required.rendering_hatches, machine_blueprints.required.tooltip) are all DISABLED.[5]
