What is MI Tweaks?
2 parts
MI Tweaks is a small addon for Modern Industrialization. It adds configurable tweaks to existing machine mechanics, and it's built for modpack creators and addon developers who want to shape how MI plays in their pack. This pack includes version 1.9.5-1.21.1.[1][2]
The key thing to know is that every tweak is disabled by default. Unless a pack turns an option on, the mod doesn't change how MI behaves.[1]
What it adds
- Flux Transformer: a block that takes in EU, stores it, and converts it to FE when extracted. By default in the mod it takes HV, stores 204.8k EU, converts at 1:1 and doesn't limit the FE extract rate in practice.[1]
- Extra recipe conditions: a required EBF coil, or a minimum machine hull voltage, which let a pack gate recipes more freely than MI's EU/t-based method.[1]
- Voltage integration: options that make a machine's voltage matter, through the voltage recipe condition and voltage-based machine speed. A machine's voltage comes from the hull in its hull slot.[1]
- Efficiency behavior: choose how efficiency works in electric machines, or hide the efficiency bar and information in machine UIs.[1]
- Machine blueprints: items that can show a multiblock's shape and auto-place its blocks from your inventory. The mod gives no survival way to obtain them, so that's left to the pack.[1]
- Smaller tweaks: water pumps can require an ocean or river biome, crafting machine efficiency can be locked with the redstone control module, and energy bar tooltips can show current consumption.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
Unverified The sources don't show which MI Tweaks options this pack enables or changes from the defaults. The mod isn't on the ATM Star quest path, and no quests in this pack involve it, so there's no quest-driven progression to follow for it.
How do you get started with MI Tweaks?
3 parts
MI Tweaks is a small addon for Modern Industrialization. It exists so pack makers can adjust how MI behaves, so there isn't a long list of new gear to chase. The one standout block you can build yourself is the Flux Transformer.[1]
Step 1: Make the Flux Transformer
The Flux Transformer is your bridge between MI's EU power and FE, the common energy used by many other mods. It converts EU to FE, and its tooltip text gives the conversion rate in FE per EU.[1][3]
This pack changed the Flux Transformer's crafting recipe, so use the one below.[4]

This is the pack's changed recipe for the Flux Transformer.
Craft it once you have MI machines producing EU and want to power something that runs on FE.[1]
What the mod's defaults are
By default the Flux Transformer accepts HV EU, stores 204.8k EU internally and converts at 1:1 when FE is extracted. Those are the mod's defaults, and its voltage, storage and rate are all configurable. Check the transformer's tooltip in the pack for the conversion rate.[1][3]
Step 2: Machine Blueprints, only if you find one
The mod also adds the Machine Blueprint. Pack makers can use it as a requirement for building machines. The mod itself gives you no way to get blueprints in survival. If you already have one, you can duplicate it with the recipe below.[1][4]
This mod recipe duplicates a Machine Blueprint you already have.
No quests in this pack involve the mod, so the quest book won't walk you through any of this.[4]
How does MI Tweaks work?
5 parts
MI Tweaks is an addon for Modern Industrialization (MI) that adds configurable tweaks to MI's existing mechanics. It is built for pack makers, so it adds very little on its own. Instead, most of what you'll notice comes from the pack's config. In this pack nearly every tweak is switched off, with a few exceptions I'll point out below.[1][5]
Flux Transformer: turning EU into FE
The Flux Transformer is how you get power out of MI's EU network and into other mods. It takes in EU, stores it internally, and converts it to FE (the common energy used by many other mods) when the FE is extracted. The in-game tooltip tells you the live conversion rate in FE per EU.[1][3]
The pack's settings match the mod defaults. flux_transformer.capacity is 204,800 EU, flux_transformer.conversion_rate is 1 (so 1 FE per EU), and flux_transformer.max_extract is 9,223,372,036,854,776,000 FE at a time.[5]
The pack changed the Flux Transformer's crafting recipe, so don't rely on what you may remember from the mod's own recipe. Here is the one this pack uses:[4]
Crafting Shaped

EU Transformer settings
The config also has an EU Transformer that works the other way round: it converts FE to EU, and its tooltip shows the rate in EU per FE. In this pack eu_transformer.capacity is 204,800, eu_transformer.conversion_rate is 1, and eu_transformer.max_insert is 9,223,372,036,854,776,000, all the same as the mod defaults.[3][5]
Voltage and efficiency
In plain MI, a machine's voltage only decides which tier of cable it can accept power from. MI Tweaks adds options to make voltage matter more. A machine's voltage comes from the hull in its hull slot. Recipes can also require a minimum hull through a voltage process condition, and a separate EBF coil condition can require a specific coil regardless of the recipe's EU/t cost.[1]
tweaks.display_machine_voltage shows a machine's voltage, including on hatches and hulls. It is off in this pack. The mod recommends turning it on when you use the voltage recipe condition. The sources don't say whether any recipe in this pack uses these conditions.[1][5]
Efficiency behavior in electric machines is controlled by efficiency.hack. The pack allows DISABLED, ALWAYS_BASE and ALWAYS_MAX, and it is set to DISABLED, so MI's normal efficiency behavior is untouched. ALWAYS_BASE runs machines at the base machine EU, or the recipe EU if that is higher, plus upgrades. ALWAYS_MAX forces maximum efficiency.[1][5]
efficiency.use_casing_max_overclock_overrides is also off. If a pack turned it on, it would override the max-efficiency behavior of the hack mode. It applies to electric machines, and for multiblocks it uses the casing of the highest-tier energy hatch. The configured override values are 32 for efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.lv, 128 for efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.mv, 512 for efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.hv, 2,048 for efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.ev and 8,192 for efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.superconductor. They have no effect while the toggle is off.[5]
efficiency.hide can hide the efficiency bar and multiblock efficiency data. It is false here, so you still see them. tweaks.display_energy_consumption_on_energy_bar would add the machine's current energy consumption to the energy bar tooltip, which makes the most sense when efficiency is hidden. It is also off.[1][5]
Machine blueprints and multiblock shapes
The Machine Blueprint is made for a specific machine. Holding one shows that machine's multiblock shape, much like a wrench. Right-clicking a multiblock controller with the matching blueprint takes the blocks from your inventory and places them for you. The mod gives no way to obtain blueprints in survival, so that is left to the pack.[1]
The pack doesn't enforce blueprints. The machine_blueprints.required.placing, machine_blueprints.required.rendering_hatches and machine_blueprints.required.tooltip requirements are all DISABLED, machine_blueprints.machines is an empty list, and machine_blueprints.learning is false. So you can place machines normally, and wrenches still render multiblock shapes because tweaks.wrenches_render_multiblock_shapes is true.[1][5]
If you do get a blueprint, you can duplicate it with a recipe that uses only the blueprint and paper:[4]
Boilers, pumps and redstone
- tweaks.require_water_biome_for_pump would make water pumps work only in a river or ocean biome. It is off, so pumps aren't restricted by biome.[1][5]
- tweaks.lock_efficiency_with_redstone would make a redstone module that locks a machine lock its efficiency too, rather than only the crafting operation. It is off.[5]
- tweaks.lock_boiler_temperature_with_redstone would make a locked multiblock boiler keep its temperature and fuel consumption, instead of losing fuel and heat. It is off.[5]
- tweaks.disable_item_fuel_in_multiblock_boilers would block item fuels in multiblock boilers. It is off, so item fuels are not blocked.[5]
- tweaks.very_hot_items_burn_time is 100 ticks, the same as the mod default. It sets the burn time applied when you hold an item tagged mi_tweaks:very_hot.[5]
How do you progress through MI Tweaks?
2 parts
The pack's recipe data shows how a couple of MI Tweaks items are made, so this section sticks to those recipes. The sources don't lay out a tier breakdown for the mod.[4]
Flux Transformer
The Flux Transformer is made in a normal crafting grid with a shaped recipe, and the pack has changed that recipe. Follow the one below and don't rely on what the mod ships by default.[4]
Crafting Shaped

Copying Machine Blueprints
You can duplicate a Machine Blueprint with the mod's own copy recipe. The pack doesn't change it.[4]
This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.
Unverified No quests in this pack involve MI Tweaks, so the quest book gives no guided progression for it, and the sources here show no further tier breakdown.
How does MI Tweaks work with other mods?
2 parts
MI Tweaks is an addon for Modern Industrialization, so nearly everything it does builds on that mod. The clearest bridge to other mods' power systems is the Flux Transformer.[1]
Flux Transformer: from EU to FE
The Flux Transformer takes in EU, which is Modern Industrialization's energy, stores it internally, and converts it to FE when it is extracted. FE is the common energy type used by many other mods, so this block is how you can power FE machines from your MI setup.[1]
The pack changed the Flux Transformer recipe. It combines Modern Industrialization parts with a cable from the FE cables tag, so any cable in that tag works for the FE side. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[4]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | ||
| Empty slot | any fe cable | |

Recipe id: mi_tweaks:flux_transformer
This recipe is changed by the pack, and the FE cable slot accepts any cable in the FE cables tag.
Mod defaults
These are the mod's own defaults, not confirmed pack values. The Flux Transformer accepts HV EU, stores 204.8k EU, converts at a 1:1 rate and has an FE extract limit of 2^63-1. All of these are configurable.[1]
Which MI Tweaks config options matter?
4 parts
Good news: this pack leaves MI Tweaks almost entirely alone. The mod ships with its tweaks disabled by default, and the pack's config keeps nearly everything in that off or neutral state. Everything below lives in config/mi_tweaks-startup.toml, which is the mod's startup config file.[1][5]
Wherever the file lists a mod default, the pack's value matches it, so the pack has not changed any of those values.[5]
Energy transformers
- flux_transformer.capacity is 204,800, the same as the mod default. This is the EU capacity of the Flux Transformer.[1][5]
- flux_transformer.conversion_rate is 1 (the mod default). It is the multiplier applied to EU to get FE, so the conversion is 1:1.[1][5]
- flux_transformer.max_extract is 9,223,372,036,854,776,000, also the mod default. It is the maximum FE the Flux Transformer can give out at a time.[5]
- The EU Transformer mirrors this, with each value matching the mod default: eu_transformer.capacity is 204,800, eu_transformer.conversion_rate is 1 (the multiplier on FE to get EU), and eu_transformer.max_insert is 9,223,372,036,854,776,000.[5]
Efficiency
- efficiency.hack is DISABLED, so no change is made to MI's efficiency behavior on electric machines. The other allowed modes are ALWAYS_BASE and ALWAYS_MAX.[5]
- efficiency.hide is false, so the efficiency bar and multiblock efficiency data stay visible.[5]
- efficiency.use_casing_max_overclock_overrides is false, so the casing overrides are switched off. The file still lists values for them: efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.lv is 32, efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.mv is 128, efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.hv is 512, efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.ev is 2,048 and efficiency.casing_max_overclock_overrides.superconductor is 8,192. They only come into play if that switch is turned on.[5]
Machine blueprints
The blueprint requirement system is not enforced in this pack. machine_blueprints.required.placing, machine_blueprints.required.rendering_hatches and machine_blueprints.required.tooltip are all DISABLED. machine_blueprints.learning is false, and the machine_blueprints.machines list is empty.[5]
Gameplay tweaks
- tweaks.disable_item_fuel_in_multiblock_boilers is false, so item fuels are not blocked in multiblock boilers.[5]
- tweaks.require_water_biome_for_pump is false, so water pumps do not need a river or ocean biome to operate.[5]
- tweaks.lock_efficiency_with_redstone and tweaks.lock_boiler_temperature_with_redstone are both false, so a redstone module locking a machine only locks the crafting operation, and a locked multiblock boiler loses fuel and heat rather than holding its temperature.[5]
- tweaks.display_energy_consumption_on_energy_bar and tweaks.display_machine_voltage are both false, so the extra energy bar tooltip info and the voltage display are off.[5]
- tweaks.very_hot_items_burn_time is 100 ticks, the mod default. It applies to items tagged mi_tweaks:very_hot.[5]
- tweaks.wrenches_render_multiblock_shapes is true, so wrenches show multiblock shapes in the world. If it were false, only blueprints could do that.[5]
What changed in MI Tweaks between versions?
