What is Macaw's Furniture?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Macaw's Furniture is a decoration mod: it adds wardrobes, drawers, chairs, desks, couches, chaise, sinks, tables and more, so your bases and houses can feel properly lived in.[1]

The mod is all about different furniture styles and customization. You can place pieces on top of each other to build different combinations, and merge them to make them wider or taller as much as you want.[1]

Furniture is not just for looks either. You can store your items in various types of furniture, or sit down on a chair and relax.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Macaw's Furniture 3.4.2, and the mod has been part of the pack since version 0.0.1 or earlier.[2]

Unverified Where this pack's quest book places the mod (its chapter, group, and what comes before and after it) and whether the ATM Star path uses it are not shown by the sources here. That detail lives in the pack's quest book, so check there if you want to know.

How do you get started with Macaw's Furniture?

4 parts

Macaw's Furniture adds a huge set of decorative and storage furniture to the pack. The recipe dump lists 416 shaped crafting recipes that make furniture, so you won't run out of things to build. The mod's own project page says you can place pieces on top of each other or merge them to make them wider or taller. Here's the order I'd tackle things in.[1][3]

The recipe dump labels the recipes in this section as the mod's own recipes. It shows no pack changes to them. I use acacia as the example wood. The birch recipes in the dump follow the same pattern, so the same steps work there.[3]

First: make the two parts

Before the storage furniture, craft a Cabinet Door and a Cabinet Drawer. A lot of the storage furniture needs one of them as an ingredient, so they're worth having ready.[3]

Next: seating and tables

The Acacia Chair is a good first piece because it is a single craft with no mod parts needed, so you can start decorating right away.[3]

Then: storage

Tip: Chaise recipes like the Blue Chaise make 4 per craft and come in colours instead of wood types, so they add a comfy corner.[3]

How does Macaw's Furniture work?

5 parts

Macaw's Furniture is a decoration mod, so there are no machines, multiblocks or power networks to set up here. What the mod offers is wardrobes, drawers, chairs, desks, couches, chaises, sinks, tables and more. The mechanics that matter are how you place them, how they combine and how you craft them.[1]

Placing and combining furniture

You can place pieces on top of each other to build different combinations. You can also merge them to make a piece wider or taller, as much as you want. Some pieces store your items, and chairs let you sit down and relax.[1]

The same furniture comes in several wood types. The mod's language file includes acacia, birch, cherry, crimson and dark oak sets, each with its own chairs, desks, drawers, wardrobes and so on. The examples below use acacia.[4]

Crafting: the two key components

Many storage pieces in this pack are built from two parts: Cabinet Door and Cabinet Drawer. Both are made with ordinary shaped crafting. Make these first, because many wardrobes, cabinets and drawers need them.[3]

Batch crafting

Many pieces come out in batches, so one craft covers a whole room. These are the acacia recipes shown in the pack's recipe dump:[3]

Upgrading one piece into another

Some furniture is crafted from another piece of furniture, and the recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack recipes. The counters and the end table work this way: see Acacia Drawer Counter with Acacia Drawer, Acacia Double Drawer Counter with Acacia Double Drawer, Acacia Cupboard Counter with Acacia Wardrobe, and Acacia End Table with Acacia Table.[3]

How many recipes there are

Every furniture recipe the dump counts is shaped crafting. It counts 416 recipes that take both this mod's items and vanilla items and make furniture, each with a different result. A further 236 recipes make furniture from vanilla items alone.[3]

How do you progress through Macaw's Furniture?

3 parts

Macaw's Furniture has no tier system in this pack. Every recipe in the data is a normal shaped crafting recipe, so nothing is gated behind machines. Progression is a crafting chain: simple pieces first, then the cabinet parts, then finished furniture that upgrades into fancier variants.[3]

The recipe data lists 416 shaped recipes that make the mod's furniture, and 236 of them take only vanilla ingredients. 138 of the ingredients across the mod's recipes are items from the mod itself, so a lot of furniture is built out of other furniture.[3]

Starter pieces

These pieces need nothing from the mod. The acacia and birch recipes follow the same pattern, and the cherry recipes in the pack data match it too. Acacia is used for the examples below.[3]

Cabinet parts

Cabinet Door and Cabinet Drawer are the key intermediates. Both are crafted from basic materials, and the wardrobes, kitchen cabinets and drawers all build on one of them. Make these early.[3]

Upgrading finished furniture

  1. Acacia Coffee Table starts the table chain.[3]
  2. Acacia Table comes next in the chain.[3]
  3. Acacia End Table builds on the table.[3]
  4. Acacia Glass Table is the top of the chain.[3]

Tip: Craft a good number of cabinet doors and drawers once, since each one feeds a 4× recipe. You will then have what you need for the storage furniture without going back for materials.[3]

What changed in Macaw's Furniture between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships with Macaw's Furniture 3.4.1. The pack's mod list says the mod was first included in Aero 1.0.3 or earlier.[5]

What 3.4.1 changed

The 3.4.1 update is a bug fix release. Here's what it sorted out:[6]

  • Drawers had bad shading, especially the stripped ones.[6]
  • The middle parts of desks had a glitchy texture.[6]
  • Kitchen sinks returned just one empty bucket when you filled buckets from them, even if you were holding more than one.[6]

The release also updated the ru_ru, fr_fr and es_cl translations.[6]

Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod, so any changes the pack itself made to Macaw's Furniture across its releases are unverified. Those would be listed in the pack's own release changelogs.
