What is FTB Quests?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.2 guide

FTB Quests is included in this pack as version 2101.1.27, using the NeoForge build of the mod. It has been part of the pack since pack version 2.25 or earlier, so it's been around for most of the pack's life.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't describe what FTB Quests does, who it's aimed at, or how it fits into this pack's progression, so those details are left out until they can be confirmed.

How do you get started with FTB Quests?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

FTB Quests adds a small set of craftable items to the pack, and every one of them has a simple recipe. Here is the order I'd make them in.[2]

The Quest Book

Start with the Quest Book. Its recipe is shapeless, so the ingredients can go anywhere in the crafting grid.[2]

The Loot Crate Opener

Next is the Loot Crate Opener. It is a block, and when you right-click it, it shows how many items it has stored ("Stored items"). Its recipe is shaped, so follow the pattern shown below.[2][3]

Task Screens

The Task Screen (1x1) is where every screen starts. The 3x3, 5x5 and 7x7 recipes all use the smaller screens, so craft the 1x1 first and work upwards.[2]

Once you have a 1x1, you can make the Task Screen (3x3). After that come the Task Screen (5x5) and the Task Screen (7x7).[2]

The Task Screen Configurator

Finally, make the Task Screen Configurator. Its recipe also builds on the 1x1 screen. The screen settings in the mod include Size, Skin, Task Index, Fullscreen, Hide Icons, Indestructible, Input Only, Input Mode Icon and Draw Text Shadows. If you see "You don't have permission to configure this!", you are not allowed to change that screen.[2][3]

Tip: Every recipe above is a mod recipe in this pack, and the recipe blocks show the exact in-pack versions. Check those rather than assuming anything from memory.[2]

How does FTB Quests work?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.22.0 guide

The sources here describe no power, fluid or multiblock mechanics for FTB Quests. What they do describe is a set of blocks that link the quest book to the world: you hand items in, show progress on screens, or detect things with redstone. This page covers those blocks.[4]

Task screens

Task screens show a quest task in the world. They come as Task Screen (1x1) (1x1), Task Screen (3x3) (3x3), Task Screen (5x5) (5x5) and Task Screen (7x7) (7x7). Each size has its own crafting recipe in this pack.[4][5]

Recipe id: ftbquests:screen_3

A screen has these settings: Size, Skin, Task Index, Fullscreen, Hide Icons, Draw Text Shadows, Input Only, Input Mode Icon and Indestructible. If you lack permission, the screen tells you that you can't configure it. The pack also has a Task Screen Configurator with its own recipe.[4][5]

When you break a screen, it drops as an item that keeps its saved screen data. That applies to every screen size, so you can move a configured screen without redoing it.[6][7][8][9]

Quest Chest and Loot Crate Opener

The Quest Chest has an input slot and an output slot. Items placed in the input slot are used to complete quests, and rewards appear in the output slot. There is also an Auto-Transfer All Items option.[4]

The Loot Crate Opener stores loot crates. Right-clicking it shows how many items it holds. If you break it, it drops as an item that keeps the stored crates, so nothing is lost.[4][10]

The sources also list a Loot Crate Storage block, but they don't explain how it works.[4]

Detectors and barriers

The language file lists several more blocks. They are named here, but the sources don't describe their recipes or how you obtain them in this pack.[4]

  • Quest Detector: comes in a Player Detector variant (Radius, Height and Offset Y settings) and a Redstone Detector variant (Required Redstone Level setting). Both have a Task setting and a Notifications option.[4]
  • Quest Progress Detector: has an Output Level and an Object ID setting.[4]
  • Quest Barrier: has an Object ID and an Invisible When Open option. Its teleport settings can leave the dimension empty to stay in the current one, can be relative to the barrier's position, and use yaw (0 = South, 90 = West, 180 = North, 270 = East) and pitch (positive looks down, negative looks up).[4]
  • Stage Barrier and Progress Screen: these blocks exist, but the sources give no details on them.[4]

Quest Book

The Quest Book is the Quest Book, and it has a crafting recipe in this pack. The quest settings include an option to drop the book on death.[4][5]

Unverified The sources here include no config files for this mod in the pack, so whether any of the block settings above are tuned differently from the mod's defaults is not shown. Check the pack's quest chapters in game for details.

How do you progress through FTB Quests?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.22.0 guide

FTB Quests has no tech tree of its own. The only tiers in this pack are the Task Screen sizes, which you step up through by crafting. The pack's recipe dump lists them as mod recipes, with no changes from the pack. Nothing in the sources puts this mod on a quest chapter, so this page covers the crafting path only.[5]

Getting started: the Quest Book

The Quest Book is the starting item. It has its own crafting recipe.[5]

Task Screen tiers

Task Screens put quest tasks on a block in the world. The smallest is the Task Screen (1x1), and it is the base of the whole line.[5]

The next tier is the Task Screen (3x3). Its recipe builds on the 1x1 screen.[5]

Crafting Shaped

9 × Task Screen (1x1)

Recipe id: ftbquests:screen_3

After that comes the Task Screen (5x5), which builds on the smaller screens.[5]

The largest tier is the Task Screen (7x7), which again builds on the smaller screens.[5]

Tip: Every screen size keeps its saved task screen data when you break it and pick it up, so you can move a configured screen without setting it up again.[6][7][8][9]

Extras

The Task Screen Configurator is the tool for setting up screens, and it has its own recipe.[5]

The Loot Crate Opener is a block that opens loot crates. When you break it, it keeps the loot crate items stored inside it.[5][10]
