What is Create: Transmission!?

1 part

Create: Transmission! is a small Create addon that adds a single block: the Transmission Chain. Its job is to power belts in a cleaner way, without needing an encased chain drive.[1]

The chain moves rotational power between belts. It can connect right angle belts, consecutive belts and even belts that sit on top of each other. It can only be placed on belts, and it can be encased like belts can.[1]

It is meant to cut down on clunky setups with gearboxes and encased chain drives, but it does not make them obsolete.[1]

In this pack

This pack includes version 1.2.2+neoforge-create6-1.21.1 of the mod.[2]

The quest book puts the mod in the "Create" chapter, which sits in the "Tech Mods" group as chapter 22 of 31 and holds 100 quests. The chain has no quest of its own. It is one of the two items in the "Mechanical Belt" quest quest, next to the regular belt connector, and that quest describes Transmission Chains as the way to cleanly transfer rotation between belts.[3]

The path that leads there starts with "Welcome to Create!" quest, then "Early-game Rotational Force" quest, then "Andesite Casing" quest. The Mechanical Belt quest comes right after the Andesite Casing quest, so you unlock it once you have andesite casings.[3]

Several other quests branch off the same Andesite Casing quest, including "Measuring RPM & Stress" quest, "Gearboxes" quest and "Mechanical Bearing" quest. The text of 58 of the chapter's 100 quests is not covered in this guide, so check the quest book itself for the rest of the chapter.[3]

How do you get started with Create: Transmission!?

3 parts

Create: Transmission! is a small addon that adds a single block, the Transmission Chain. It carries rotational force between belts in a cleaner way than an encased chain drive. So your first steps are really the first steps of Create itself, and the chain comes in once you have belts running.[1][4]

The order to go in

  1. Start with the quest "Welcome to Create!" quest and craft some Andesite Alloy. The quest says you will need a lot of it. It also points you to Ponder, Create's in-game documentation: hover over an item in JEI or in your inventory to see if it has one.[3]
  2. Make shafts and cogwheels next ("Early-game Rotational Force" quest). They are the main way to move rotational force to your machines, and the Cogwheel Ponder shows how they change RPM.[3]
  3. Get some power going. The Hand Crank ("Hand Crank" quest) is the quickest start, but the quest says it is not sustainable. For something permanent, Water Wheel ("Water Wheel" quest) gives you passive force from water alone.[3]
  4. Craft Andesite Casing ("Andesite Casing" quest). It is used to craft most early-game blocks and machines, and the quest book unlocks a lot of quests after it.[3]
  5. Set up Mechanical Belt and the Transmission Chain in "Mechanical Belt" quest. That quest lists both items as tasks.[3]

In the pack's quest book, the Transmission Chain sits in the "Create" chapter of the "Tech Mods" group. Its quest comes after Andesite Casing, which comes after the early rotational force quest, which comes after the welcome quest.[3]

Crafting the Transmission Chain

The pack has two ways to make it: a normal crafting recipe and a deploying recipe. Both give you the same item.[5]

How to use it

Without this mod, passing power between belts means an encased chain drive, which the mod's own Ponder calls bulky. The Transmission Chain is slim and only works on belts. It can connect belts at a right angle, belts one after another, and even belts stacked on top of each other.[1][4]

Watch out: Transmission Chains can only be placed on belts. The pack leaves placing_check set to true, so this check is on. The config describes turning it off as allowing chains to be placed everywhere.[1][6]
Tip: Transmission Chains can be encased, and a wrench removes the casing again. The mod has both an Andesite Encased and a Brass Encased version. Check the mod's Ponder scenes on the chain to see the layouts in action.[4]

How does Create: Transmission! work?

4 parts

Create: Transmission! is a small addon for Create with one job: moving rotational power between belts. It adds a single block, the Transmission Chain, and that is the whole mod, so the mechanics are easy to learn.[1]

What the Transmission Chain does

Normally you would pass rotation from belt to belt with an encased chain drive. The mod's own Ponder scene calls that approach bulky. The Transmission Chain is the slim alternative, and it only works on belts.[4]

It can power belts in several arrangements. You can connect belts at a right angle, connect consecutive belts, and even connect belts that sit on top of each other.[1][4]

The idea is to simplify belt powering and avoid clunky setups with gearboxes and encased chain drives. It does not make those obsolete.[1]

Crafting it

There are two ways to make the chain in this pack. You can craft it at a crafting table, or you can use a deployer.[5]

Encasing and removing the casing

Like belts, Transmission Chains can be encased. The mod has two encased blocks: the Andesite Encased Transmission Chain and the Brass Encased Transmission Chain. If you want the casing off again, use a wrench.[1][4]

The placement check

The mod has a server option, placing_check, that controls whether chain placement is checked. When it is disabled, chains can be placed anywhere. This pack sets it to true, so the chain keeps its belt-only placement here.[1][6]

Tip: Because the chain only works on belts, plan your belt layout first and then add chains where belts need to hand rotation to each other. That covers right angles, belts in a row and belts stacked on top of each other.[1][4]

How do you progress through Create: Transmission!?

2 parts

Here's the short version: in this pack, Create: Transmission! shows up in the quest book through one item, the Transmission Chain. The sources I have show no tiers or upgrade steps for the mod, so this section follows where the chain sits in the Create questline and how you make it.[3][5]

Where it sits in the quest book

The chain is a task in the "Mechanical Belt" quest quest. That quest is in the Create chapter, in the Tech Mods group (chapter 22 of 31 in the book), and it asks for the belt connector and the Transmission Chain. The quest text says Transmission Chains are used to cleanly transfer rotation between belts.[3]

You reach it along this path:[3]

  1. "Welcome to Create!" quest is the chapter's starting point. It asks for Andesite Alloy.[3]
  2. "Early-game Rotational Force" quest comes after it and covers cogwheels, large cogwheels and shafts.[3]
  3. "Andesite Casing" quest comes after that.[3]
  4. "Mechanical Belt" quest comes after Andesite Casing, and it's where the Transmission Chain appears.[3]

Since it unlocks right after Andesite Casing, the chain is an early-game item in this pack. It shares that spot with other quests that follow Andesite Casing, such as "Measuring RPM & Stress" quest, "Gearboxes" quest and "Plates" quest.[3]

Crafting the chain

The pack has two recipes for the Transmission Chain. Both produce the same item, so use whichever suits your setup.[5]

Crafting Shaped

The standard shaped crafting recipe.

Deploying (create)

Recipe id: createtransmission:transmission_chain_deployer

The same result made through a Create deploying recipe, so a Deployer can automate it.

Tip: Both recipes start from a Shaft, which you unlock in the Early-game Rotational Force quest. You'll already have the materials for the chain by the time you get to the Mechanical Belt quest.[3][5]

How does Create: Transmission! work with other mods?

3 parts

Create: Transmission! is an addon for Create that adds a single block, the Transmission Chain. Everything it does happens inside a Create belt setup, so its connections to the rest of the pack are all through Create.[1]

What it does for Create belts

The chain carries rotational power between belts. It can link right angle belts, consecutive belts and even belts stacked on top of each other. It can only be placed on belts, and like belts it can be encased. It is meant to replace clunky setups with gearboxes and encased chain drives, without making those obsolete.[1]

Crafting it with Create parts

In this pack the chain is made from a Create Shaft and a vanilla Chain. You can get it from a normal crafting table recipe or from a Create deployer recipe.[5]

Deploying (create)

In the quest book

The chain shows up in the "Mechanical Belt" quest quest. It sits in the "Create" chapter, which is in the "Tech Mods" group (chapter 22 of 31 in the book). The quest comes after the Andesite Casing quest and asks for a Create belt connector and the Transmission Chain. Its text explains that Transmission Chains are used to cleanly transfer rotation between belts.[3]

Tip: If you are setting up belts for the first time, the quest book's "Early-game Rotational Force" quest quest covers shafts and cogwheels, the basic way to move rotation around, and it is a good one to finish before you start on chains.[3]

The Create chapter has 100 quests in total, and the text of 71 of them is not shown in the sources for this guide, so check the quest book itself for those.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Create: Transmission!?

2 parts

Create: Transmission! only shows up in one quest in the pack's quest book. It sits in the "Create" chapter, which is in the "Tech Mods" group (chapter 22 of 31 in the book), not in a chapter of its own.[3]

The quest: Mechanical Belt

The quest is "Mechanical Belt" quest. It asks you to hand in two items: Mechanical Belt and the Transmission Chain. The quest text says Mechanical Belts make conveyor-like systems that move items and/or Rotational Force, and that Transmission Chains are used to cleanly transfer rotation between belts.[3]

How you get there

The quest is a few steps into the chapter. This is the path that leads to it, in order:[3]

  1. "Welcome to Create!" quest is the chapter's starting quest, and it asks for Andesite Alloy.[3]
  2. "Early-game Rotational Force" quest comes after it and asks for a Cogwheel, a Large Cogwheel and a Shaft.[3]
  3. "Andesite Casing" quest comes next and asks for Andesite Casing.[3]
  4. "Mechanical Belt" quest follows the Andesite Casing quest.[3]

Mechanical Belt is one of many quests that open once you finish Andesite Casing, so you can do it whenever you like after that. No other quest in the chapter lists it as a prerequisite, so it is a dead end and nothing else is locked behind it.[3]

Which Create: Transmission! config options matter?

Create: Transmission! has very little to configure, and the one option you are likely to care about is placing_check in the server config file.[6]

This option turns the transmission chain placement check on or off. The pack sets it to true, so the check is enabled. If you switched it to false, transmission chains could be placed everywhere.[6]

Tip: The mod's own description says the Transmission Chain can only be placed on belts. With the placement check enabled, as it is in this pack, plan your chains around your belts.[1][6]

What changed in Create: Transmission! between versions?

2 parts

Create: Transmission! is in this pack at version 1.2.2 for NeoForge and Create 6 on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so you have always had it. Here is what the two newest mod releases changed.[2]

1.2.2

  • The transmission chain got a new item texture, thanks to itsARprod.[7]
  • A Russian translation was added, thanks to Cuywex.[7]
  • A Ukrainian translation was added, thanks to Tenwoc.[7]

1.2.1

  • New feature: a config option for placing the transmission chain without restrictions. The sources here do not give the option's name or its default.[8]
  • A small rendering bug was fixed.[8]
