Which Steam 'n' Rails Neoforge config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 guide
Steam 'n' Rails splits its settings across a server file for gameplay rules, a client file for visuals, and a small common file. Wherever the pack's files list a mod default, the pack's value matches it, so the pack has not changed those values. Here are the ones you're most likely to want to tweak.[1][2][3]
Gameplay rules (server file)
- realism.realisticTrains is false, so trains do not need fuel to run in this pack. If you turn it on, trains need fuel from fuel tanks or solid fuels in chests or barrels.[2]
- realism.realisticFuelTanks is true, so fuel tanks only accept proper liquid fuels. Water and similar liquids can't go in.[2]
- misc.creeperTrackDamage is false, so creepers and ghast fireballs can't damage your tracks.[2]
- misc.strictCoupler is false. If you enable it, the coupler needs its points on the same or an adjacent track edge, so any junction between the two points stops it working.[2]
- misc.flipDistantSwitches is true, so you can control Brass Switches remotely while approaching them on a train. misc.switchPlacementRange is 64 blocks (the mod default, with an allowed range of 16 to 128).[2]
- misc.unlimitedCreativeRelocation is false, so creative players are not given unlimited distance when relocating trains.[2]
Conductors and semaphores
- conductors.activationDistance is 16 blocks, the mod default. That's how far away you can activate a conductor by looking at it.[2]
- conductors.mustOwnBoundTrain is false, so the conductor whistle is not limited to the train's owner.[2]
- conductors.whistleRebindRate is 10 and conductors.maxConductorVentLength is 64, both the mod defaults.[2]
- semaphores.simplifiedPlacement is true, so there is no upside-down semaphore placement. semaphores.flipYellowOrder is false.[2]
Visuals (client file)
- client.smoke.smokeType is set to CARTOON (the other choices are VANILLA and OLD). With it, client.smoke.cartoon.spawnFasterPuffs is true and client.smoke.cartoon.spawnSteam is false.[3]
- The old smoke options are also set: client.smoke.old.smokeQuality is HIGH, client.smoke.old.smokeLifetime is 500 ticks, client.smoke.old.smokePercentage is 0.75, and client.smoke.old.thickerSmoke is true.[3]
- client.animatedFlywheels is true, and client.flywheelSpeedMultiplier is 0.5, the mod default.[3]
- client.skipClientDerailing is false. Turning it on prevents stuttering when a train places tracks, but trains won't appear derailed when they crash.[3]
- client.nvidiaShutdownWatchdog is true. It force-exits the game if it hangs on the NVIDIA Linux shutdown bug, and you can disable it if a driver update fixes the hang for you.[3]
Common file
Both disableDatafixer and registerMissingTracks are false. Don't enable the datafixer option if your world has pre-Create 0.5.1 monobogeys, because they will be destroyed. Both options are flagged as requiring a reload.[1]
