What is Create Aeronautics: FTB Chunks?

2 parts

This is the bridge between your flying ships and FTB Chunks. The pack ships version 1.1.1 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier. Its one item in the sources is the Contraption Claim Block.[1][2]

What it does

Place a Contraption Claim Block on a ship and the ship becomes FTB Chunks territory. Only your team can break it or open it, and you can add allies from the block. The ship also shows up on the map with its altitude and speed.[2]

The block can also force-load the ship, with two options. Keep Anchor Loaded keeps the chunks under it awake, so the ship keeps existing while you're away. Keep Physics Active keeps it simulating too, so a flying farm keeps farming. Both count against your team's force-load limits.[2]

Watch out: A ship that never stops simulating never stops costing the server. The quest's advice is to force-load the base, not the fleet.[2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The quest "Contraption Claim Block" quest lives in the "Aeronautics" chapter, in the "Main Questline" group. That is chapter 5 of 31 in the book, and it has 58 quests.[2]

It comes straight after "Docking Connector" quest, which itself follows "Going Places" quest. That quest path covers docking, ropes, navigation, automated routes, claiming your ship so it keeps ticking while you're away, and taking it into other dimensions. It all branches off "Taking to the Skies" quest, the chapter's opener.[2]

Most of the chapter's quests are not shown in the material I have, so check the quest book to see what follows the claim block.[2]

How do you get started with Create Aeronautics: FTB Chunks?

3 parts

The item to know about here is the Contraption Claim Block. It ties your flying ships into FTB Chunks, so the first step is simply having a ship worth protecting.[2][3]

Get a ship in the air first

The claim block lives in the "Aeronautics" chapter of the quest book (Main Questline, chapter 5 of 31). The chapter opens with "Taking to the Skies" quest, which says you have already met the Physics Assembler and the Hot Air Burner on your starter ship. Build and fly that before you worry about claiming anything.[2]

The claim block belongs to the "Going Places" quest path, which covers docking, ropes, navigation and claiming your ship so it keeps ticking while you're away. Its quest, "Contraption Claim Block" quest, comes straight after "Docking Connector" quest.[2]

Craft the Contraption Claim Block

The pack changed the hand-crafted recipe for this block, so don't trust any recipe you remember from the mod's defaults. This is the in-pack version, made with Create's mechanical crafting:[4]

The pack also adds a second route through the FTB Constructor machine. Check the recipe below for the exact amounts and pick whichever fits your setup:[4]

Place it on your ship

Place the block on the ship and it becomes FTB Chunks territory. Only your team can break or open it, you can add allies from the block, and the ship shows up on the map with its altitude and speed.[2]

The block also lets you force-load the ship. Keep Anchor Loaded keeps the chunks under it awake so the ship still exists while you're gone. Keep Physics Active keeps it simulating too, so a flying farm keeps farming. Both count against your team's force-load limits.[2]

Force-loading is switched on in this pack: force_loading.allow_plot_chunk_force_load is set to true. The config notes that it respects FTB Chunks force-load limits and offline force-load settings.[5]

Watch out: A ship that never stops simulating never stops costing the server. The quest book's advice is to force-load the base, not the fleet, and the config warns that overused force-loaded contraptions can cause server lag.[2][5]

How does Create Aeronautics: FTB Chunks work?

2 parts

This mod is small. It adds one block, the Contraption Claim Block, and one server config option that controls whether claimed contraptions can be force-loaded through FTB Chunks.[3][5]

Getting the Contraption Claim Block

The pack gives you two ways to make the block, and it touched both. The first is a Create mechanical crafting recipe, which the pack changed from the mod's version. So don't rely on any recipe you remember from outside this pack.[4]

Create mechanical crafting. The pack changed this recipe.

The second route is one the pack added: a Modern Industrialization FTB Constructor recipe. It asks for larger amounts of each material than the mechanical crafting one, so use whichever fits your setup.[4]

Force-loading claimed contraptions

The option force_loading.allow_plot_chunk_force_load is set to true in this pack. That means players are allowed to force-load the plot chunks of a claimed contraption through FTB Chunks. The plot chunks are the real-world anchor chunks of the contraption.[5]

When you do this, a persistent Sable loading ticket is added. The contraption stays loaded and ticking even when no players are nearby. It respects the FTB Chunks force-load limits and the offline force-load settings, so your normal FTB Chunks limits still apply.[5]

Watch out: Force-loaded contraptions keep simulating physics, and the config itself warns this can cause server lag if overused. Only force-load the contraptions you really need running while you're away.[5]

How do you progress through Create Aeronautics: FTB Chunks?

3 parts

There are no tiers to climb here. The only item this mod adds in the pack is the Contraption Claim Block, so progression is about when you reach it in the quest book and how you make it.[2][4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The Aeronautics chapter is chapter 5 of 31 in the Main Questline group. Its quests branch out from "Taking to the Skies" quest, and the claim block lives on the Going Places path. That path covers docking, ropes, navigation, automated routes, claiming your ship so it keeps ticking while you're away, and taking it into other dimensions.[2]

The order is "Taking to the Skies" quest, then "Going Places" quest, then "Docking Connector" quest, then "Contraption Claim Block" quest. The claim block quest asks you to hold the block itself.[2]

What the block gives you

Place it on a ship and the ship becomes FTB Chunks territory. Only your team can break it or open it, you can add allies from the block, and the ship shows up on the map with its altitude and speed.[2]

The block also lets you force-load the ship, with two options:[2]

  • Keep Anchor Loaded keeps the chunks under the ship awake, so it keeps existing while you're gone.[2]
  • Keep Physics Active keeps the ship simulating too, so a flying farm keeps farming.[2]
Watch out: Both options count against your team's force-load limits, and a ship that never stops simulating never stops costing the server. The quest's advice is to force-load the base, not the fleet.[2]

How to craft it

The pack gives you two routes. The first is a Create mechanical crafting recipe, and the pack has changed it from the mod's own version.[4]

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own version.

The second route is a recipe the pack added itself, made in the FTB Constructor machine from Modern Industrialization.[4]

How does Create Aeronautics: FTB Chunks work with other mods?

3 parts

The one place this mod meets the rest of the pack is the Contraption Claim Block. It ties FTB Chunks claiming to the ships you build in the Aeronautics chapter, and its recipes pull in items from Create and FTB Materials.[2][4]

Crafting it with Create

The block is made with Create's mechanical crafting, and the pack has changed this recipe. It mixes a part from Create with metals from FTB Materials, and an ender pearl from vanilla Minecraft. Here is the exact in-pack version:[4]

Crafting it with Modern Industrialization

The pack also adds a second route through the FTB Constructor machine from Modern Industrialization. It uses the same kinds of materials as the Create recipe, in larger amounts, so check the card below for the exact counts.[4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The quest "Contraption Claim Block" quest is in the "Aeronautics" chapter, part of the Main Questline group (chapter 5 of 31 in the book). It comes right after the Docking Connector quest.[2]

Per the quest, placing the block on a ship turns it into FTB Chunks territory. Only your team can break it or open it, and you can add allies from the block. The ship also shows up on the map with its altitude and speed.[2]

The block lets you force-load the ship too. Keep Anchor Loaded keeps the chunks under it awake so it still exists while you're away. Keep Physics Active keeps it simulating as well, so a flying farm keeps farming. Both count against your team's force-load limits.[2]

Watch out: A ship that never stops simulating never stops costing the server. The quest's advice is to force-load the base, not the fleet.[2]

The chapter's "Going Places" quest path also mentions claiming your ship so it keeps ticking while you're away. Most of the chapter's other quests are in the quest book, so check there for the rest.[2]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Create Aeronautics: FTB Chunks?

2 parts

This mod has one quest in the pack, and it is in the "Aeronautics" chapter. That chapter is in the Main Questline group and is chapter 5 of 31 in the book. The quest is "Contraption Claim Block" quest, and its task is to get the Contraption Claim Block.[2]

Where it sits in the chapter

The chapter starts at "Taking to the Skies" quest, which sets up the hull, lift, thrust, stability, steering and getting around. The claim block comes from the "getting somewhere" branch. Here is the path to it:[2]

  1. "Taking to the Skies" quest is the chapter's opening quest, and it is a checkmark task.[2]
  2. "Going Places" quest comes after it. This branch covers docking, ropes, navigation, automated routes, claiming your ship so it keeps ticking while you're away, and taking it to other dimensions.[2]
  3. "Docking Connector" quest comes after Going Places. It asks you to get the Docking Connector.[2]
  4. "Contraption Claim Block" quest comes after the Docking Connector quest. It asks you to get the Contraption Claim Block.[2]

Going Places has other branches too. "Ropes" quest leads to "Rope Launchers" quest, "Ground Travel" quest leads to "Hang Glider" quest, and "Navigation Tables" quest leads to "Airship Station" quest. "Aero Portals" quest is another quest directly after Going Places.[2]

What the claim block quest tells you

Place a Contraption Claim Block on a ship and the ship becomes FTB Chunks territory. Only your team can break it or open it, and you can add allies from the block. It also shows up on the map with its altitude and speed.[2]

The block lets you force-load the ship. Keep Anchor Loaded keeps the chunks under it awake, so the ship keeps existing while you're gone. Keep Physics Active keeps it simulating as well, so a flying farm keeps farming. Both count against your team's force-load limits.[2]

Watch out: A ship that never stops simulating never stops costing the server. The quest's advice is to force-load the base, not the fleet.[2]

Which Create Aeronautics: FTB Chunks config options matter?

1 part

There is one option in this mod's server config that you'll want to know about, and it's the one that decides whether your contraptions keep running while you're away: force_loading.allow_plot_chunk_force_load. This pack sets it to true.[5]

Plot chunk force loading

With this on, players can force-load the plot chunks (the real-world anchor chunks) of a claimed contraption through FTB Chunks. That adds a persistent Sable loading ticket, so the contraption stays loaded and ticking even when no players are nearby.[5]

It still respects FTB Chunks' own force-load limits and its offline force-load settings, so those rules decide how much you can actually keep loaded.[5]

Watch out: Force-loaded contraptions keep simulating physics, so overusing this can cause server lag. Only force-load the contraptions you really need running.[5]

Unverified Whether this pack's value differs from the mod's default is not shown in the available sources, so treat it only as the value this pack uses.
