What is Compact Machines?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

Compact Machines is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 7.0.81, the NeoForge build (compactmachines-neoforge-7.0.81.jar).[1]

It isn't a new addition. The mod was already in the pack as of version 1.0.1 or earlier, so it has been around for a long time.[1]

I don't have enough information to describe the mod's items, recipes or mechanics as they work in this pack, so I'm leaving those out rather than guessing. Check back for the sections that cover them once they're confirmed.[1]

How do you get started with Compact Machines?

5 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 guide

Compact Machines lets you craft a machine, place it in the world, and then step inside it, because each machine is a pocket dimension. You get in by using a Personal Shrinking Device (the PSD) on a placed machine. So the first goal is simple: get a PSD and get a machine.[2]

Step 1: Compact Machine Walls

Start with Compact Machine Wall. It is a plain crafting recipe from the mod, and one craft gives you 8 walls, so you won't need many crafts.[3]

Step 2: The two modules

Next come the Atom Shrinking Module and the Atom Enlarging Module. Both are shaped crafting recipes straight from the mod, and you'll want one of each.[3]

Step 3: The Personal Shrinking Device

The PSD is your key to every machine. This pack changed its recipe, so don't trust a recipe from other versions or modpacks. Check the one below. It takes both modules, which is why you made them first.[3]

Once you hold one, use it on a placed machine to enter the compact space.[2]

Step 4: Your first machine

The machine item is New Machine. The pack adds recipes for it under these ids: tiny, small, normal, large, giant, massive, colossal and farming. The tiny and colossal ones are shown below, and the other sizes follow the same pattern in the pack's recipe list. The colossal recipe is a shaped crafting recipe in which the wall and both modules appear. The others are miniaturization recipes.[3]

Good to know

  • The pack keeps recipes.vanillaRecipes set to true, which the config describes as enabling vanilla-style recipes.[4]
  • There is a key binding called "Quick-Exit Compact Machine" for leaving a room fast, and another for opening the room upgrade screen.[2]
  • The mod has a game rule that can damage shrinking devices when you leave rooms. I can't confirm from the sources whether it is switched on in this pack, so keep an eye on your PSD's durability.[2]
  • If you run a server, commands.permLevels.give sets the command level needed to give machines to players. It is 2 here, the same as the mod default.[5]

Which Compact Machines config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

Good news: Compact Machines has only a handful of options, and this pack doesn't change any of the ones with a listed mod default. Here is how it sets the ones you're most likely to care about.[6][7][8]

Command permission levels (server config)

These live in the server config and decide who can run the admin commands for machines and rooms. Each accepts a value from 0 to 4, and the pack sets every one of them to 2, which is also the mod default. The config's own description lists the levels as 0 = ALL, 1 = ADMIN, 2 = OP and 4 = OWNER.[7]

Tip: If you run a server and want regular players to use one of these commands, lower that option's value. Remember that the rebind option only applies after a server restart.[7]

Recipes (common config)

recipes.vanillaRecipes is set to true in this pack. The file describes it as enabling vanilla-style recipes.[6]

Room previews (client config)

enableRoomPreviews is set to true in this pack, so you get a room preview when you open a bound machine's UI. This is a client-side setting, so it only affects your own game.[8]
