What is Absolute Kinematics?
Absolute Kinematics is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 1.0.1 of it (the file is absolute_kinematics-1.0.1.jar) in the 1.10.0 release.[1]
It isn't a new arrival either: the mod was already included in version 1.1.0 of the pack or earlier, so it has been around for a long time.[1]
Unverified No description of what Absolute Kinematics actually does is available for this guide, so its features, items and mechanics are not covered here.
How do you get started with Absolute Kinematics?
2 parts
Absolute Kinematics gives you two blocks to make: the Hinge and the Ball Joint. Both let you turn a glued-together group of blocks into a moving Simulated Contraption. Both recipes are changed by the pack, so don't rely on crafting steps you remember from other modpacks.[2][3]
Step 1: The Hinge
The Hinge is the one you power with a shaft. It attaches to the block in front of it. Use Super Glue or Honey Glue to select the group of blocks you want to move, then power the Hinge through the shaft and it assembles into a Simulated Contraption.[3]

Keep in mind that the Hinge is locked to 90 degrees of rotation on each side, so you get 180 degrees of movement in total.[3]
Rotational power also passes straight through a Hinge, and the rotation stays uninterrupted as the Hinge turns. If you give it Redstone power, the Hinge unlocks and spins freely. This behavior can be configured using the value panel.[3]
Step 2: The Ball Joint
The Ball Joint also attaches to the block in front of it, and you again select your blocks with Super Glue or Honey Glue. The difference is how you assemble it: right click it with an empty hand and it becomes a Simulated Contraption. Ball Joints can not directly be moved with Rotational Force.[3]

Like the Hinge, it lets rotation from a shaft pass directly through it, and the rotation stays uninterrupted while the Ball Joint rotates. Give it Redstone power and it locks, blocking all rotation. You can configure this behavior with the value panel.[3]
Each block also has a matching link block, called the Ball Joint Link Block and the Hinge Link Block.[3]
How does Absolute Kinematics work?
4 parts
Absolute Kinematics gives you two joint blocks, the Ball Joint and the Hinge. Both let you turn a glued-together group of blocks into a moving structure. They work a bit differently, so let's go through each one.[3]
Assembling a structure
Both joints attach to the block directly in front of them. You choose which blocks belong to the structure with Super Glue or Honey Glue, and the joint then assembles that group into a Simulated Contraption.[3]
- Ball Joint: right click it with an empty hand and it assembles into a Simulated Contraption.[3]
- Hinge: it assembles into a Simulated Contraption when it is powered via the shaft.[3]
Ball Joint
The Ball Joint can not be moved directly with Rotational Force, so don't expect a shaft to turn it. Rotational power on a Shaft passes straight through the Ball Joint, and that rotation stays uninterrupted while the Ball Joint itself rotates.[3]
Redstone power locks the Ball Joint and blocks all rotation. This behavior can be configured using the value panel.[3]
Hinge
The Hinge is locked to 90 degrees of rotation on each side, which gives a total of 180 degrees of movement. Like the Ball Joint, it lets rotational power on a Shaft pass directly through, and that rotation stays uninterrupted as the Hinge turns.[3]
Redstone works the opposite way here: when the Hinge gets Redstone power it unlocks and spins freely. This can also be configured using the value panel.[3]
Crafting
The pack changes the recipes for both joints, so use the ones below rather than anything you remember from the mod's defaults.[2]

The mod also has a Ball Joint Link Block and a Hinge Link Block. The sources give no further detail on how they work.[3]
How do you progress through Absolute Kinematics?
2 parts
The recipe data for this mod in the pack covers Ball Joint and Hinge. Below you can see how each one is crafted in the pack.[2]
Both recipes are shaped crafting recipes that the pack has changed. What you see below is the pack's version, not the mod's default, so don't trust recipe viewers or guides written for the standalone mod.[2]

How does Absolute Kinematics work with other mods?
2 parts
In this pack, Absolute Kinematics connects to other mods through its crafting recipes for the Hinge and the Ball Joint. Each is a shaped crafting recipe that the pack has changed, so what you craft here is the pack's version, not the mod's default.[2]
Hinge
The Hinge is the more Create-flavoured of the pair. Its recipe uses a Gearbox and a Block of Industrial Iron, so you need Create materials on hand before you can make one. It also takes a wooden slab, and any slab from the wooden slabs tag works.[2]

Ball Joint
The Ball Joint also uses a Block of Industrial Iron and a wooden slab. Instead of a gearbox, it asks for a Brass Ingot, so it ties into the pack's brass supply rather than a Create machine part.[2]
