What is Step Crafter?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Step Crafter is an add-on for Refined Storage. It adds a Step Crafter and a Step Requester, which give you recursive crafting and a way to keep items in stock in your network.[1]
What it does
With the Step Crafter, you put in a pattern and Shift + Click it to set a minimum and a maximum amount. When the amount of that pattern's output stored in your network drops below the minimum, it crafts automatically until the maximum is restored.[1]
The Step Requester works from a resource instead of a pattern. You select the resource you want to maintain, then click to set its minimum, maximum and batch size. When the available amount falls below the minimum, it asks your autocrafters to produce that resource in batches until the maximum is reached.[1]
In this pack
The pack includes Step Crafter 1.21.1-0.1.8, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]
The mod's project page lists a Step Crafter Manager, a Step Requester Manager, starting Step Crafter autocrafting tasks from the Grid, and a Redstone Pulse to start crafts as planned features. These are only plans, so don't count on them in this version.[1]
How do you get started with Step Crafter?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Step Crafter adds a few blocks on top of Refined Storage that keep items in stock for you, so you don't have to queue crafts by hand. The recipes use Refined Storage parts, so get a basic Refined Storage network running first.[1][3]
First, make a Step Crafter
Start with the Step Crafter. It's the core of the mod, and both the Step Crafter Manager and the Step Crafting Monitor are crafted from it. It accepts patterns for recursive autocrafting and lets you set a minimum and a maximum. When the network's amount of a pattern's output drops below the minimum, it crafts until it reaches the maximum.[1][3][4]

To set it up, put a pattern in, then Shift + Click it to enter the minimum and maximum amounts.[1]
Next, make a Step Requester
The Step Requester works from resources instead of patterns. Select the resource you want to maintain and click it to configure the minimum, maximum and batch size. When the amount falls below the minimum, it requests Autocrafters to produce the item in batches until the maximum is reached.[1][4]

Add managers once you have several
After you've placed a few of them, the managers save you from walking around to each one. The Step Crafter Manager lets you manage all your Step Crafters from a single interface, and the Step Requester Manager does the same for Step Requesters. Each one is crafted from its matching base block, so make the Step Crafter or Step Requester first.[3][4]

Watch and cancel crafts with the monitor
The Step Crafting Monitor displays the status of step crafting tasks and lets you cancel them in your storage network. It is crafted from a Step Crafter too.[3][4]

Speed things up with Slot Upgrades
The Slot Upgrade speeds up the Step Crafter. The speed multiplier applies per slot upgrade, using the formula: upgrade amount times speed multiplier, plus 1.[4]

Optional extras
The managers and the monitor can be recolored. In this pack you combine a dye with any manager or monitor of the matching kind, and the light blue recipe gives you the standard, undyed item. Here's the red Step Crafter Manager as an example.[3]

If you use a Refined Storage Grid, the mod adds a tooltip that says ALT + click to stepcraft.[4]
How does Step Crafter work?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.22.0 guide
Step Crafter is an add-on for Refined Storage. It adds recursive crafting and keeps items in stock automatically. Everything below works through your storage network, so you set a target amount once and the network does the rest.[1]
Step Crafter
The Step Crafter accepts patterns for recursive autocrafting. Put a pattern in, then Shift + Click it to set a minimum and a maximum. When the amount of that pattern's output in your network drops below the minimum, it crafts until the maximum is reached again.[1][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: stepcrafter:step_crafter
This is the in-pack recipe for the Step Crafter.
These toggles on the Step Crafter screen are worth knowing about:[5]
- Insert into pointed container: if enabled, the Step Crafter tries to import the crafted components into the container it is pointed at.[5]
- Visible to the Step Crafter Manager: if enabled, you can manage this Step Crafter from the Step Crafter Manager.[5]
The filter slots also tell you what is going on. You may see Crafting, Finished, Not Enough Ingredients, "Network is full. Can't insert crafting result", or "External container is full or doesn't accept any items". If a slot says the network is full, free up space in your storage first.[5]
Step Requester
The Step Requester works from the other side. You pick a resource and configure its minimum, maximum and batch size. When the available amount drops below the minimum, it asks your autocrafters to produce it in batches until the maximum is reached.[1][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: stepcrafter:step_requester
This is the in-pack recipe for the Step Requester.
So the difference is simple. The Step Crafter takes patterns directly and follows them recursively, while the Step Requester hands the job to the autocrafters already on your network. Like the Step Crafter, it has a toggle that makes it visible to its manager.[5]
Managers and the monitor
The Step Crafter Manager lets you manage all your Step Crafters from a single interface. The Step Requester Manager does the same for Step Requesters. Only machines with their visibility toggle enabled can be managed there.[5]
Both managers have a search mode and a view type in the config. This pack sets both managers to the search mode "ALL" and the view type "VISIBLE". The other search modes are PATTERN_INPUTS, PATTERN_OUTPUTS and STEP_NAMES, and the other view types are NOT_FULL and ALL.[7]
- Search mode options: stepCrafterManager.searchMode and stepRequesterManager.searchMode.[7]
- View type options: stepCrafterManager.viewType and stepRequesterManager.viewType.[7]
The Step Crafting Monitor shows the status of step crafting tasks and lets you cancel them in your storage network. A task can be Ready, Running, Completed, Network Full or Not Enough Ingredients, and the monitor can list a missing resource. Its Required and Used numbers may not reflect the actual amount, so treat them as a guide.[5]
In the Grid, the tooltip "ALT + click to stepcraft" shows up, so you can start a step craft from there.[5]
The managers and the monitor also come in dyed colors. Dyeing is a shapeless craft with a dye and any manager or monitor of the matching type.[6]
The dyed managers and monitors keep a custom name when you break them and pick them up.[8][9][10]
Speed and energy
The Slot Upgrade speeds up the Step Crafter. The formula is the number of speed upgrades times the speed multiplier, plus 1. This pack sets stepCrafter.speedMultiplier to 14, which is the mod default.[5][7]

Recipe id: stepcrafter:slot_upgrade
This is the in-pack recipe for the Slot Upgrade.
Each of these has its own energy usage setting, and this pack keeps the mod default for each one:[7]
- Step Crafter: 6 (stepCrafter.energyUsage).[7]
- Step Requester: 6 (stepRequester.energyUsage).[7]
- Slot Upgrade: 4 (slotUpgrade.energyUsage).[7]
- Step Crafter Manager: 16 (stepCrafterManager.energyUsage).[7]
- Step Requester Manager: 16 (stepRequesterManager.energyUsage).[7]
- Step Crafting Monitor: 16 (stepCraftingMonitor.energyUsage).[7]
How do you progress through Step Crafter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide
Step Crafter progression in this pack is driven by its crafting recipes. The base blocks are built from Refined Storage parts, including Advanced Processor, so you need Refined Storage up and running before you start.[11]
The base blocks
Everything starts with the Step Crafter and the Step Requester. Make these first, because the managers and the monitor are built on top of them.[11]

Managers and the monitor
The next step uses your base blocks as ingredients. The Step Crafter Manager and the Step Crafting Monitor both need a Step Crafter, and the Step Requester Manager needs a Step Requester. All of them also use a glass block, and the pack accepts any block in the glass blocks tag. The monitor additionally needs a Refined Storage Pattern.[11]

Slot Upgrade
The Slot Upgrade has its own recipe. It uses a chest, Quartz Enriched Iron and a Refined Storage Upgrade, so it does not depend on any other Step Crafter block.[11]

Coloring
The managers and the monitor can be recolored. Each color has a shapeless recipe: a dye of that color plus any block of the matching kind (crafter manager, crafting monitor or requester manager). Here is the red Step Crafter Manager as an example.[11]

How does Step Crafter work with other mods?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide
Step Crafter is built entirely around Refined Storage. The mod adds the Step Crafter and the Step Requester to give a Refined Storage network recursive crafting and the ability to keep items in stock. Every recipe for the mod in this pack is made from Refined Storage parts.[1][11]
How it plugs into your network
On the Step Crafter side, you put in a pattern and Shift + Click it to set a minimum and a maximum amount. When the network's stored amount of that pattern's output drops below the minimum, it crafts automatically until the maximum is restored.[1]
The Step Requester works from the resource instead. You select what you want to maintain, then configure its minimum, maximum and batch size. When the available amount falls below the minimum, it asks autocrafters to produce that resource in batches until the maximum is reached.[1]
Recipes that use Refined Storage items
Quartz Enriched Iron shows up in every Step Crafter recipe in this pack, so you will need to be set up with Refined Storage materials before you can craft any of them. All of these are shaped crafting recipes.[11]
The Step Crafter is the base of the crafting side. It is made from Refined Storage components, including an Autocrafter.[11]

The Step Requester is the base of the stock-keeping side, and it is also built from Refined Storage parts, including a Detector.[11]

Managers and the monitor
The Step Crafter Manager and the Step Crafting Monitor both need a Step Crafter first. Keep an eye out for the Machine Casing in both recipes below, and for the Pattern in the monitor's.[11]

The manager and monitor blocks also come in colour variants, such as black and blue. The mod groups them with one item tag for each type: crafter managers, crafting monitors and requester managers.[12][13][14]
Slot Upgrade
The Slot Upgrade is a Refined Storage flavoured craft. See the recipe below for where the regular Upgrade and a Chest fit in.[11]

Which Step Crafter config options matter?
4 parts
Good news: wherever the sources list a mod default, this pack uses exactly that value, so none of these options is a pack-specific change. The options are split between the common file, which covers speed, energy and the manager screens, and the client file, which covers the defaults on the resource configuration screen.[15][16]
Crafting speed
stepCrafter.speedMultiplier is set to 14, the same as the mod default. It can be any value above 0.[15]
Energy usage
Each Step Crafter block has its own energy usage option, and the pack leaves all of them at the mod default. Every one accepts a value from 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[15]
- stepCrafter.energyUsage: 6[15]
- stepRequester.energyUsage: 6[15]
- slotUpgrade.energyUsage: 4[15]
- stepCrafterManager.energyUsage: 16[15]
- stepRequesterManager.energyUsage: 16[15]
- stepCraftingMonitor.energyUsage: 16[15]
Manager search and view
Both managers have a search mode and a view type. The pack sets stepCrafterManager.searchMode and stepRequesterManager.searchMode to "ALL". The other allowed values are PATTERN_INPUTS, PATTERN_OUTPUTS and STEP_NAMES.[15]
stepCrafterManager.viewType and stepRequesterManager.viewType are both set to "VISIBLE". The other allowed values are NOT_FULL and ALL.[15]
Defaults when you set up a resource
When you configure a resource for the Step Requester, you set a minimum, a maximum and a batch size. The client config decides what those fields start with. resourceConfigurationDefaults.defaultBatchSize is 1, while resourceConfigurationDefaults.defaultMinAmount and resourceConfigurationDefaults.defaultMaxAmount are both 0. All of these match the mod defaults.[1][16]
What changed in Step Crafter between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 ships Step Crafter 1.21.1-0.1.9, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.16.0 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[17]
Changes by mod version
- 0.1.9 (the version in this pack): fixed Alt + Click not working inside the Grid.[17][18]
- 0.1.8: the default resource values for the Step Crafter and Step Requester can now be changed in the client-side configuration screen.[19]
- 0.1.6: fixed a crash that sometimes happened when using inventory sorter mods.[20]
- 0.1.5: fixed a bug where saving a fluid filter in the Step Crafter or Step Requester incorrectly changed its min amount, max amount, and batch size.[21]
- 0.1.4: added a new side button to the Step Crafter that controls whether crafted items are inserted into the pointed container. This release also fixed various crashes.[22]
