What is Replication?
2 parts
Replication is a tech mod that lets you replicate resources of similar types. You can turn dirt into stone, but you can't turn dirt into diamonds. It needs Titanium to run, and this pack includes version 1.21.1-1.1.27.[1][2][3]
It's a good fit if you like building a machine network and then letting it do the work. You break items down into matter, scan them so the network remembers them, and then request copies from a terminal.[1][3]
How the loop works
- Put an item with matter values into the Disintegrator to break it down into matter.[1][3]
- Matter Network Pipes carry that matter to Matter Tank blocks, and from the tanks on to the machines that need it. These pipes also carry power, like any power pipe.[1][3]
- The Identification Chamber scans items to learn their matter values and stores them in chips. Chips placed in the Chip Storage become available to the whole network.[1][3]
- Request an item from the Replication Terminal. A Replicator then uses the matter in your tanks to build it from scratch and sends it back to the terminal.[1][3]
Where it fits in this pack
The pack has a quest chapter for Replication that walks you through the machines in order. It starts with a quest in "?", which asks for a Raw Replica, and then moves to a quest in "?", which asks for a Matter Network Pipe. Every other quest in the chapter branches from that pipe quest.[4]
- From the pipe quest, four quests open up: a quest in "?" (Identification Chamber), a quest in "?" (Disintegrator), a quest in "?" (Replication Terminal) and a quest in "?" (Replicator).[4]
- After the Disintegrator, a quest in "?" asks for a Matter Tank.[4]
- After the Identification Chamber, a quest in "?" asks for a Memory Chip, and a quest in "?" then asks for the Chip Storage.[4]
Unverified The sources don't say how early or late in the overall pack progression you're expected to start Replication, so this guide doesn't claim a stage for it.
How do you get started with Replication?
5 parts
Replication lets you copy resources of a similar type: dirt can become stone, but never diamonds. The whole setup runs on one idea. You break items down into matter, scan them to learn their matter values, then ask a terminal to rebuild them from scratch.[3]
This pack has a quest chapter for the mod that takes you through the machines in a set order. The steps below follow it.[4]
Start with Replica Ingots
The chapter opens with a quest in "?", which asks for Raw Replica. Smelting it gives you Replica Ingot, and nearly every machine below is crafted with that ingot. A blast furnace works as well as a regular furnace.[4][5]
Raw Replica and Raw Replica Block convert back and forth, and so do Replica Ingots and the Replica Block.[5]
The pack also adds its own dripper recipe that produces Deepslate Replica Ore.[5]

Recipe id: ftb:stuff/dripper/deepslate_replica_ore
Unverified What the Deepslate Replica Ore drops when mined is not confirmed in the sources available, so check it in game before you rely on it as your Raw Replica supply.
Matter Network Pipe
Next is a quest in "?", the Matter Network Pipe. These pipes connect your Replication machines. They carry power like any power pipe, and they also move matter from the Disintegrator to Matter Tanks and from the tanks to the machines that need it. The rest of the chapter unlocks from this quest.[3][4]

Scanning your items
The Identification Chamber (a quest in "?") scans items to learn their matter values and saves them onto chips. You need a Memory Chip (a quest in "?") to hold that data. The Chip Storage (a quest in "?") then makes the stored chips available to the whole network. The pack changed the Identification Chamber and Memory Chip recipes from the mod's defaults, so go by the recipes below.[3][4][5]

Terminal and Replicator
The Replication Terminal (a quest in "?") is where you request items you have already scanned. The pack changed its recipe from the mod's default. The Replicator (a quest in "?") then builds the requested item from the matter in your tanks and sends it back to the terminal.[3][4][5]

In the Replicator's GUI you can switch on Infinite Mode. It keeps replicating until the output is full or the matter runs out.[3]
How does Replication work?
8 parts
Replication turns items into matter and matter back into items. It can swap resources of similar types, so you can turn dirt into stone, but never dirt into diamonds. Here is how the machines fit together and what the pack's config does to them.[1][3]
The basic loop
- Break items down with a Disintegrator. It turns any item that has matter values into matter.[3]
- Scan items in the Identification Chamber. It works out their matter values and stores them on chips.[3]
- Put those chips in a Chip Storage so they are available to the network.[3]
- Request an item at the Replication Terminal. A Replicator then uses the matter stored in tanks to build the item from scratch and sends it back to the terminal.[3]
Matter pipes and tanks
Matter Network Pipe connects your Replication machines and automates part of the loop. It carries power and works like any power pipe. It also carries matter, moving it from the Disintegrator to the Matter Tanks and from the tanks to any machine that needs it.[1][3]

The pipe's power transfer is set by ReplicationConfig.MatterPipe.POWER_TRANSFER, which is 2,560 in this pack, the same as the mod default. A Matter Tank holds 256,000 according to ReplicationConfig.MatterTank.CAPACITY, also the mod default.[7]

Disintegrator
The Disintegrator has its own internal tank of 16,000 (ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.TANK_CAPACITY). Its progress cap is 40 (ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.MAX_PROGRESS) and its power usage is 1,500 (ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.POWER_USAGE). The pack leaves all three at the mod defaults.[7]

If you are a pack maker and want an item that can't be disintegrated, add it to the replication:cant_be_disintegrated tag.[1]
Identification Chamber and chips
The Identification Chamber has a fast mode and a slow mode. Fast mode scans much faster, but the item can be consumed on each action. Slow mode is slower, but the item is only consumed when the scan reaches 100%.[6]
In this pack the chamber uses 5,000 power (ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.POWER_USAGE) and has a max progress of 100 (ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.MAX_PROGRESS). The config notes that the progress shown in game is double the max progress value. ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.IDENTIFICATION_PROGRESS is set to 0.5, and its allowed range is 0.0 to 1.0. All of these match the mod defaults.[7]
The pack changed the crafting recipes for the Identification Chamber, the Memory Chip and the Replication Terminal, so don't rely on recipes from the mod's own docs for those three.[5]

Items tagged replication:cant_be_scanned can't be scanned. That tag only blocks scanning, not replicating.[1]

Replicators can run in Infinite Mode, which you set in the GUI. In that mode a Replicator keeps replicating a resource until the output is full or the matter runs out.[3]
The Replicator's max progress is 100 (ReplicationConfig.Replicator.MAX_PROGRESS) and its power per tick is 80 (ReplicationConfig.Replicator.POWER_TICK). Both are mod defaults. As with the chamber, the progress shown in game is double the max progress value.[7]

MatterOpedia
The MatterOpedia is a searchable list of which items have which matter values. Open it with the button to the left of the search bar in the terminal screen, or by clicking the matter displays on the right of the terminal. It can also be sorted by amount or by display name, in ascending or descending order.[3][6]
- Type a matter name to see every item that has that matter.[3]
- earth>10 shows items with more than 10 earth.[3]
- nether=20 shows items with exactly 20 nether.[3]
- quantum<6 shows items with less than 6 quantum.[3]
- !earth shows items that have no earth.[3]
- *metallic shows items that only have metallic.[3]
How matter values are calculated
You don't need a hand-written value for every modded item. The mod calculates values from crafting recipes, and datapacks can add, change or remove values.[1]
The pack changed one setting here. ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_RECIPE_DEPTH is 10 in this pack instead of the mod default of 11. Setting it to 0 turns recipe calculation off. ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_VISITED_RECIPES stays at 50.[7]
ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.SUBTRACT_CRAFTING_REMAINING_ITEM is enabled. Items that leave something behind when crafted, like the milk bucket in the cake recipe, have the matter value of that leftover item subtracted from the calculation.[7]
Tooltips
Item tooltips show a hint to hold a key to see matter values. ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_MATTER_TOOLTIP_VALUES_OUTSIDE_TERMINAL and ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_PRESS_SHIFT_TEXT are both true in this pack.[6][7]
Unverified The sources don't give the units for the power and matter numbers above. They also don't say exactly what the Identification Chamber's identification progress value does, or how the Disintegrator's progress cap relates to its speed.
How do you progress through Replication?
5 parts
The Replication quest chapter in this pack is a short, branching chain. You start with one item and unlock the rest of the machines from there. Each quest asks you to have a single item, and the quests have no titles, so I refer to them by ID.[4]
Tier 1: Raw Replica and Replica Ingots
The first quest, a quest in "?", asks for Raw Replica. Everything else in the chapter hangs off it.[4]
The pack adds a dripper recipe that turns Polymorphic Fluid Source into Deepslate Replica Ore. Raw Replica packs down into Raw Replica Block and unpacks again. You cook it in a furnace or a blast furnace to get Replica Ingot, which also converts to and from Replica Block.[5]

Unverified The sources do not confirm what Deepslate Replica Ore drops when mined, so check that in-game.
Tier 2: Matter Network Pipe
a quest in "?" asks for the Matter Network Pipe, and it unlocks four quests at once. Pipes connect your Replication machines. They carry power, and they carry matter from the Disintegrator to Matter Tanks and from the tanks to the machines that need it.[3][4]

Tier 3: The four core machines
Once you have the pipe, these four quests open up in any order:[4]
- a quest in "?" is the Disintegrator. It breaks items with matter values down into matter.[3][4]
- a quest in "?" is the Identification Chamber. It scans items to learn their matter values and stores them in chips.[3][4]
- a quest in "?" is the Replication Terminal, where you request items once you have scanned them.[3][4]
- a quest in "?" is the Replicator. It uses matter from tanks to replicate the requested item from scratch and sends it back to the terminal.[3][4]

How does Replication work with other mods?
3 parts
Replication is mostly self-contained in this pack. The only direct link to another mod that I can confirm from the pack's recipes is a single dripper recipe that involves Just Dire Things.[5]
Just Dire Things and Deepslate Replica Ore
The pack adds a dripper recipe that produces Deepslate Replica Ore from Just Dire Things' polymorphic fluid. This recipe is not part of Replication itself. It's a pack-specific addition, so you won't find it in the mod's own documentation.[5]
Dripper (ftbstuff)
Recipe id: ftb:stuff/dripper/deepslate_replica_ore
Added by the pack.
Unverified The sources I have don't say what Deepslate Replica Ore is used for in the pack, so I can't tell you where it fits into a Replication setup.
Quests
The pack's Replication quest chapter only asks for Replication items. It starts with Raw Replica in quest a quest in "?", then moves on to the Matter Network Pipe in quest a quest in "?". From there it branches into the Disintegrator, Identification Chamber, Replication Terminal and Replicator. Later quests cover the Matter Tank, Memory Chip and Chip Storage. None of these quests involve items from other mods.[4]
Dependency
Replication also needs the Titanium library mod to run. That's a dependency rather than a gameplay integration.[1]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Replication?
3 parts
Replication has a single quest chapter in the pack, called "replication". It has nine quests and none of them has a title, so you will know them by the item each one asks for. Every task is an item task, and the chapter runs as one chain that splits into branches.[4]
The starting steps
- a quest in "?" is the entry point. It asks for Raw Replica.[4]
- a quest in "?" comes next and asks for Matter Network Pipe. Every other quest in the chapter depends on this one, directly or further down the chain.[4]
The four branches
Once the pipe quest is done, four quests open up at the same time. You can take them in any order.[4]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Identification Chamber.[4]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Disintegrator.[4]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Replication Terminal.[4]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Replicator.[4]
Follow-up quests
Two of the branches lead on to further quests.[4]
- After the Disintegrator, a quest in "?" asks for the Matter Tank.[4]
- After the Identification Chamber, a quest in "?" asks for the Memory Chip. Then a quest in "?" finishes the chain by asking for Chip Storage.[4]
The Replication Terminal and the Replicator have no follow-up quests. Those two are dead ends.[4]
Which Replication config options matter?
4 parts
Everything lives in config/replication/replication.toml. Good news: this pack only changes one Replication value from the mod default. Every other option below is at its default, so what you read in the mod's own docs for those holds here too.[7]
The one value the pack changed
ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_RECIPE_DEPTH is set to 10 in this pack, while the mod default is 11. Setting it to 0 disables the recipe calculation entirely. That calculation matters because Replication works out matter values for modded items from their crafting recipes, so you don't need a value for every item by hand.[1][7]
Recipe calculation
- ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_VISITED_RECIPES is 50, the mod default.[7]
- ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.SUBTRACT_CRAFTING_REMAINING_ITEM is true. Items that leave a remaining item behind in a recipe, like the milk buckets in the cake recipe, have that remaining item's matter value subtracted from the calculation.[7]
Machine speed, power and storage
All of these are at the mod default in this pack. For the Identification Chamber and Replicator progress values, the progress shown in game will be double the configured number.[7]
- Disintegrator: ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.MAX_PROGRESS is 40, ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.POWER_USAGE is 1,500, and ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.TANK_CAPACITY is 16,000.[7]
- Identification Chamber: ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.MAX_PROGRESS is 100, ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.POWER_USAGE is 5,000, and ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.IDENTIFICATION_PROGRESS is 0.5 (allowed range 0.0 to 1.0).[7]
- Replicator: ReplicationConfig.Replicator.MAX_PROGRESS is 100 and ReplicationConfig.Replicator.POWER_TICK is 80.[7]
- Matter Pipe: ReplicationConfig.MatterPipe.POWER_TRANSFER is 2,560.[7]
- Matter Tank: ReplicationConfig.MatterTank.CAPACITY is 256,000.[7]
Client options
ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_MATTER_TOOLTIP_VALUES_OUTSIDE_TERMINAL and ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_PRESS_SHIFT_TEXT are both true, so matter values show in item tooltips outside the terminal and you get the press-shift hint text.[7]
What changed in Replication between versions?
FTB Skies 2 1.2.0 ships with Replication version 1.21.1-1.1.27. The mod was already in the pack in 1.0.1 or earlier, so it has been part of Skies 2 from the early releases.[2]
Unverified The detailed changes between Replication releases could not be confirmed, because the mod's changelog text was not available for this guide. There are also no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say whether any pack release changed its recipes or values. Check the mod's own changelog before relying on anything that changed between versions.
