What is Replication?
3 parts
Replication is a tech mod that lets you replicate resources of similar types. You can turn dirt into stone, but you can't turn dirt into diamonds. If you like building a machine setup that copies items from scanned data, this is the mod for you. The pack includes version 1.21.1-1.2.7.[1][2][3]
The core loop
You start by breaking items down with a Disintegrator, which turns any item with matter values into matter. Matter Network Pipe carry that matter to Matter Tank blocks, and they also carry power like any other power pipe.[1][2]
The Identification Chamber scans items to learn their matter values and stores them in chips. Those chips go into a Chip Storage, which makes them available to the network. Once you have scanned something, you request it from the Replication Terminal. A Replicator then uses the matter in your tanks to build the item from scratch and sends it back to the terminal.[1][2]
Speeding things up
Sneak + right-click a Replicator with a Replicator Enclosure to add it. It gives a passive 20% acceleration at the cost of 10% extra power consumption.[2]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack has a dedicated Replication quest chapter. It opens with "Welcome to Replication!" quest, which asks for a Raw Replica and a Replica Ingot. Next comes "Matter Networks" quest for the matter network pipe, and the rest of the chapter branches from there.[4]
- After the pipe, the chapter branches into the matter tank ("Matter Tank" quest), identification chamber ("Identification Chamber" quest), replication terminal ("Viewing Your Network" quest) and replicator ("Replicator" quest).[4]
- The tank leads on to the disintegrator ("Disintegrator" quest).[4]
- The identification chamber leads to the Memory Chip ("Memory Chip" quest) and then to chip storage ("Chip Storage" quest).[4]
- The replicator leads to the replicator enclosure ("Replicator Enclosure" quest).[4]
How do you get started with Replication?
6 parts
Replication lets you turn items into matter and then print new items from that matter. It works with resources of similar types, so you can turn dirt into stone but not into diamonds. In this pack every machine is built around the Replica Ingot, so that is where you start.[2][5]
Step 1: Get Replica Ingots
The pack's quest chapter opens by asking for Raw Replica and Replica Ingot "Welcome to Replication!" quest. The pack also adds a dripper recipe that makes Deepslate Replica Ore, shown below.[4][5]
Raw Replica becomes an ingot in either a furnace or a blast furnace.[5]

This dripper recipe is added by the pack.
Step 2: Matter Network Pipe
Next in the quest chain is the Matter Network Pipe "Matter Networks" quest. It connects your Replication machines, carries power like any power pipe, and moves matter from the Disintegrator to tanks and from tanks to the machines that need it. The pack changes this recipe.[2][4][5]

Step 4: Scan items
The Identification Chamber scans items to learn their matter values "Identification Chamber" quest. Replicators can only print what you have scanned. Its recipe is changed in this pack.[2][4][5]

After that the quests ask for a Memory Chip "Memory Chip" quest and then a Chip Storage "Chip Storage" quest. Scanned values are stored on chips, and chips kept in a Chip Storage are available to the whole network. If you put the Chip Storage on top of the Identification Chamber, scanned patterns go straight into it, so the chamber doesn't need a chip inside.[2][4]

Step 5: Request and print
The Replication Terminal is where you request items "Viewing Your Network" quest. The Replicator then uses matter from your tanks to build the item from scratch and send it back to the terminal "Replicator" quest. Both recipes are changed by the pack.[2][4][5]

How does Replication work?
9 parts
Replication is built around one idea: you break items down into matter, store that matter, and then rebuild items from it. You can turn dirt into stone, but you can't turn dirt into diamonds, because the mod only replicates resources of similar types. Here's how each machine fits into that loop.[2]
The basic loop
- Put an item with matter values into a Disintegrator to turn it into matter.[2]
- Scan items in the Identification Chamber so their matter values are saved as patterns on chips.[2]
- Keep those chips in a Chip Storage so the whole network can use them.[2]
- Request an item at the Replication Terminal. A Replicator then builds it from scratch using the matter in your tanks and sends it back to the terminal.[2]
Matter pipes and tanks
Matter Network Pipe is what links your machines together. It carries power like any ordinary power pipe. It also carries matter, moving it from the Disintegrator to your Matter Tank blocks and from the tanks on to any machine that needs it.[2][5]
In this pack, ReplicationConfig.MatterPipe.POWER_TRANSFER is 2,560 and ReplicationConfig.MatterTank.CAPACITY is 256,000. Both are the mod's default values.[6]
Disintegrator
The Disintegrator is your matter source. The pack leaves its main settings at the mod defaults: ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.MAX_PROGRESS is 40, ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.POWER_USAGE is 1,500, and ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.TANK_CAPACITY is 16,000.[6]
Identification Chamber and Chip Storage
The Identification Chamber scans items to learn their matter values and stores them on chips. If you place a Chip Storage on top of the chamber, the patterns go straight into the storage, so you don't need a chip inside the chamber.[2]
The chamber has a fast mode and a slow mode. Fast mode scans much faster, but the item can be consumed on each action. Slow mode is slower, but the item is only consumed when the scan reaches 100%.[7]
The pack keeps the chamber's defaults. ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.MAX_PROGRESS is 100 (the progress shown in game is double that value), ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.POWER_USAGE is 5,000, and ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.IDENTIFICATION_PROGRESS is 0.5.[6]
Replicator
The Replicator builds what you request from the matter in your tanks. You can switch it to Infinite Mode in its GUI. It then keeps replicating a resource until the output is full or the matter runs out.[2]
The pack's ReplicationConfig.Replicator.MAX_PROGRESS is 100, with in-game progress shown as double. ReplicationConfig.Replicator.POWER_TICK is 80. Both are mod defaults.[6]
Speeding up a Replicator
Sneak + Right-Click a Replicator to install either upgrade. The Replicator Enclosure gives a passive 20% acceleration for 10% extra power consumption. The pack's config matches this, with ReplicationConfig.Replicator.ENCLOSURE_SPEED_MULTIPLIER at 0.8 and ReplicationConfig.Replicator.ENCLOSURE_POWER_MULTIPLIER at 1.1.[2][6]
The Replicator Motor adds a variable speed controller. 100% is the default speed and 20% is as fast as it can go. The faster you run it, the higher the failure chance, and the tooltip shows the current chance. When a print fails, the Replicator needs to run again, but it won't consume more matter to do so.[2][7]
You don't craft the motor directly. You craft its Matter Blueprint, use that in the Chip Storage, and then you can replicate the motor.[2][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: replication:matter_blueprint
Blueprint recipe; use the result in a Chip Storage to unlock the Replicator Motor.
Terminal and MatterOpedia
You place requests at the Replication Terminal. To cancel a task, Sneak + Click it.[2][7]
The MatterOpedia is a searchable list of which items hold which matter values. Open it with the button left of the search bar in the terminal, or by clicking the matter displays on the right of the terminal. You can sort it by amount or by display name, in ascending or descending order.[2][7]
- Type any matter name to list every item that contains that matter.[2]
- earth>10 lists items with more than 10 earth.[2]
- nether=20 lists items with exactly 20 nether.[2]
- quantum<6 lists items with less than 6 quantum.[2]
- !earth lists items that don't have earth.[2]
- *metallic lists items that only have metallic.[2]
How matter values are calculated
You don't need explicit values for every modded item. The system calculates values from crafting recipes, and datapacks can add, change or remove values.[1]
The pack changes a calculation setting. ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_RECIPE_DEPTH is 10 here, where the mod default is 11. Setting it to 0 disables recipe calculation entirely. ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_VISITED_RECIPES stays at 50.[6]
Recipes from mods in ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.IGNORED_RECIPE_MODS are skipped, and the pack lists ae2qolrecipes there. ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.SUBTRACT_CRAFTING_REMAINING_ITEM is on. That means an item left behind by a recipe, like the bucket in the cake recipe, has its matter value subtracted from the result.[6]
Items tagged replication:cant_be_scanned can't be scanned, but they can still be replicated. Items tagged replication:cant_be_disintegrated can't be disintegrated.[1]

How do you progress through Replication?
5 parts
In this pack the quest book lays Replication out as a single chapter that walks you through the machines one at a time, and each quest unlocks the next. Every quest in the chapter has an item as its task, so the order below is the order the quest book wants you to build things in.[4]
Start: Raw Replica and Replica Ingots
The chain starts with a quest that asks for both Raw Replica and Replica Ingot ("Welcome to Replication!" quest). Everything else in the chapter hangs off this one.[4]
Raw Replica can be smelted or blasted into a Replica Ingot, and every machine recipe in this chapter uses one. The pack also adds a Dripper recipe that turns a polymorphic fluid source into Deepslate Replica Ore.[5]
The blasting recipe (replication:blasting_raw_replica) gives the same result.
Dripper (ftbstuff)
Recipe id: ftb:stuff/dripper/deepslate_replica_ore

Next: Matter Network Pipe
Next you craft a Matter Network Pipe ("Matter Networks" quest). Pipes connect your Replication machines. They carry power and also move matter from the Disintegrator to Matter Tanks, and from the tanks to any machine that needs it.[2][4]

Finishing the pipe quest unlocks the Matter Tank, Identification Chamber, Replication Terminal and Replicator quests together, so you can do them in any order.[4]
The machine branches
- Matter Tank ("Matter Tank" quest) stores the matter your Replicators will use.[2][4]
- Identification Chamber ("Identification Chamber" quest) scans items to learn their matter values and stores them in chips.[2][4]
- Replication Terminal ("Viewing Your Network" quest) is where you request the items you want replicated.[2][4]
- Replicator ("Replicator" quest) uses the matter from your tanks to replicate the requested item from scratch.[2][4]

Finishing each branch
The Matter Tank, Identification Chamber and Replicator quests each have one follow-up. After the Matter Tank you build the Disintegrator ("Disintegrator" quest), which breaks items down into matter. After the Identification Chamber you craft a Memory Chip ("Memory Chip" quest), and after the Replicator you craft a Replicator Enclosure ("Replicator Enclosure" quest).[2][4]

The last quest in the chapter is the Chip Storage ("Chip Storage" quest), which unlocks after the Memory Chip. Chip Storage makes your scanned patterns available to the network. If you place it on top of the Identification Chamber, scanned patterns go straight into it without needing a chip inside the chamber.[2][4]

Speeding up replication
The Replicator Enclosure is an optional upgrade. Sneak + Right-Click it onto a Replicator for a passive 20% acceleration, at the cost of 10% extra power consumption.[2]
The Replicator Motor is not part of the quest chain. It lets you set a speed multiplier on a Replicator, but faster speeds raise the chance a print fails. A failed print has to run again, but it does not use more matter. To get a motor you craft a Matter Blueprint, use it in the Chip Storage, and then replicate the motor. The blueprint recipe is the mod's own and the pack has not changed it.[2][5]

This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.
How does Replication work with other mods?
3 parts
Replication mostly stands on its own in this pack, but the recipes show two places where it connects to other mods. One is a bridge to Refined Storage, and the other is a pack-made recipe that ties it to Just Dire Things.[5]
Refined Storage: the Replication RS2 Bridge
The Replication RS2 Bridge is a crafted item from the bridge mod, and it links Replication with Refined Storage. Its recipe uses items from both sides: the Construction Core and Machine Casing from Refined Storage, plus the Memory Chip and Replica Ingot from Replication. It is a normal shaped crafting recipe, and here is the exact in-pack version:[5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: replication_rs2_bridge:rep_rs2_bridge
The sources don't say how the bridge behaves once it is placed, so check it in-game before you build a setup around it.[5]
Just Dire Things: Deepslate Replica Ore
The pack adds its own Dripper recipe that produces Deepslate Replica Ore from the Just Dire Things Polymorphic Fluid Source. This recipe is a pack addition, so don't expect to find it in Replication on its own.[5]
Dripper (ftbstuff)
Recipe id: ftb:stuff/dripper/deepslate_replica_ore
Quests
The pack's Replication quest chapter only has tasks for Replication's own items, such as the Replicator and the Replication Terminal. No quest in it asks you to combine Replication with items from another mod.[4]
Unverified Whether the Deepslate Replica Ore from the Dripper feeds into any further recipes with other mods is not confirmed by the available sources.
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Replication?
3 parts
Replication has a single quest chapter in this pack, called "replication". None of its quests have a title in the quest book, so they are listed here by their ids. Each quest asks you to have an item, and the chapter is a branching tree rather than one straight line.[4]
The starting line
- "Welcome to Replication!" quest is the entry point. Its tasks are Raw Replica and Replica Ingot.[4]
- "Matter Networks" quest comes next and asks for a Matter Network Pipe.[4]
The branches open up
Once the pipe quest is done, the quests below unlock side by side, so you can take them in any order.[4]
- "Matter Tank" quest asks for a Matter Tank.[4]
- "Identification Chamber" quest asks for an Identification Chamber.[4]
- "Viewing Your Network" quest asks for a Replication Terminal. Nothing in this chapter unlocks after it.[4]
- "Replicator" quest asks for a Replicator.[4]
Follow-up quests
Most of those branches lead to further quests.[4]
- After the tank, "Disintegrator" quest asks for a Disintegrator.[4]
- After the replicator, "Replicator Enclosure" quest asks for a Replicator Enclosure.[4]
- After the identification chamber, "Memory Chip" quest asks for a Memory Chip. That one leads to the last quest in the chapter, "Chip Storage" quest, which asks for a Chip Storage.[4]
Which Replication config options matter?
3 parts
Replication keeps its settings in a single file, and this pack changes just a single value from the mod default. Everything else matches what the mod ships with, so the mod's own behavior applies for the rest.[6]
The value the pack changed
ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_RECIPE_DEPTH is set to 10 in this pack, down from the mod default of 11. It limits how deep the mod searches through crafting recipes when it works out matter values. Setting it to 0 disables recipe calculation entirely, so leave it alone unless you know why you're touching it.[6]
The mod works out values for modded items from their crafting recipes, so a value isn't needed for every item. These other recipe calculation options are at their defaults in this pack:[1][6]
- ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.MAX_VISITED_RECIPES is 50.[6]
- ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.IGNORED_RECIPE_MODS lists ae2qolrecipes, so recipes from that mod are ignored when matter values are calculated.[6]
- ReplicationConfig.RecipeCalculation.SUBTRACT_CRAFTING_REMAINING_ITEM is true. Items with a crafting remaining item, like the milk buckets in the cake recipe, have that remaining item's matter value subtracted from the calculation.[6]
Machine settings (all mod defaults)
- Disintegrator: ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.MAX_PROGRESS is 40, ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.POWER_USAGE is 1,500 and ReplicationConfig.Disintegrator.TANK_CAPACITY is 16,000.[6]
- Identification Chamber: ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.MAX_PROGRESS is 100, ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.POWER_USAGE is 5,000 and ReplicationConfig.IdentificationChamber.IDENTIFICATION_PROGRESS is 0.5. The config notes that the progress shown in game will be double the max progress value.[6]
- Replicator: ReplicationConfig.Replicator.MAX_PROGRESS is 100 (shown in game as double, per the config note) and ReplicationConfig.Replicator.POWER_TICK is 80. ReplicationConfig.Replicator.ENCLOSURE_POWER_MULTIPLIER is 1.1 and ReplicationConfig.Replicator.ENCLOSURE_SPEED_MULTIPLIER is 0.8.[6]
- Matter pipe and tank: ReplicationConfig.MatterPipe.POWER_TRANSFER is 2,560 and ReplicationConfig.MatterTank.CAPACITY is 256,000.[6]
Client options
The client options are both switched on. ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_MATTER_TOOLTIP_VALUES_OUTSIDE_TERMINAL is true, and ReplicationConfig.Client.SHOW_PRESS_SHIFT_TEXT is also true. Look at these if you want to change what item tooltips show.[6]
What changed in Replication between versions?
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships with Replication 1.21.1-1.2.7. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a long time.[3]
The mod's own changelog lists releases 1.1.27, 1.2.0, 1.2.1, 1.2.5, 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 for the 1.21.1 version, with 1.2.7 being the one in your pack.[3][8][9][10][11][12][13]
Unverified The individual changes made in each of those Replication releases could not be confirmed from the material available for this guide, so no per-release changes are listed here. The pack changelogs also have no entries for this mod.
