What is Relics?
2 parts
Relics is a drag-and-drop mod that adds dozens of unique items, each with its own mechanics. The mod's page advertises 28 relics, and you get the most out of them on their own, combined with other relics, or paired with items from other mods.[1]
Each relic has a leveling system and random stats, so copies of the same relic won't necessarily match. The mod also has an active ability system, and you can improve and customize your relics to build the set you want.[1]
The mod's balance adjusts automatically to the modpack it is in. Its page says that works for vanilla-like packs and for packs where health and damage numbers run into the thousands.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Relics 0.10.7.6, so everything in this guide describes that version.[2]
Relics shows up in the quest book in the "the_wild_hunt" chapter. There, quests ask you to obtain individual relic items. Here are a few of them:[3]
- Reflecting Necklace (quest "Reflecting Necklace" quest)[3]
- Shadow Glaive (quest "Shadow Glaive" quest)[3]
- Space Dissector (quest "Space Dissector" quest)[3]
- Infinite Ham (quest "Infinite Ham" quest)[3]
- Roller Skates (quest "Roller Skates" quest)[3]
The chapter also covers wearable relics such as Bastion Ring, Drowned Belt, Springy Boot and Midnight Robe, among others.[3]
Good to know
The mod's author has said no guidebook is planned for Relics, so a wiki like this one is the place to look things up.[1]
How do you get started with Relics?
3 parts
Relics adds wearable items, each with its own abilities. A relic can earn experience from specific actions, for example from its Penitence ability when the Holy Locket hits an undead enemy that is not yet burning.[3][4]
The pack's quest book has a chapter called the_wild_hunt, with one quest per relic. Each quest has an item task for that relic.[3]
Where to start
Start with the quest chapter. Quests like "Leather Belt" quest (the Leather Belt) and "Roller Skates" quest (the Roller Skates) show you which relics the pack lists. The quests have no titles, so the item in the task is your only hint.[3]
Unverified I couldn't confirm how you get relics in this pack. No crafting recipes for relics items were found, so there are no recipe blocks here. Check the quest chapter and the in-game item info for how to obtain them.
Which relic to aim for first
The mod's own item descriptions say what each relic does, though abilities can depend on conditions, such as looking at the target for the Ender Hand swap. Here are a few that are also quest items in the_wild_hunt chapter.[3][4]
- Bastion Ring makes piglins neutral toward the wearer, and the nearest piglin will indicate the location of a nearby bastion. Each trade with piglins has a chance to yield an additional trade result, up to a limit.[3][4]
- Ender Hand makes endermen neutral toward the wearer. It can also swap places with a target along your line of sight, within a set range.[3][4]
- Chorus Inhibitor makes using a chorus fruit teleport the wearer to a block along the line of sight within a set range, then goes on cooldown.[3][4]
- Drowned Belt increases the maximum number of amulet equipment slots, but reduces swimming speed and increases sinking speed. It also increases the damage the player deals underwater.[3][4]
Leveling your relics
Each relic can earn experience from its own actions. The Bastion Ring, for example, can gain experience for each Zombified Piglin, Piglin or Piglin Brute killed, and for each additional trade. The Drowned Belt can gain experience for each level of Riptide on the trident when you use it.[3][4]
The mod's description says each relic can have random stats and can be improved and customized. The exact upgrade steps in this pack were not available to me.[1]
How does Relics work?
5 parts
The mod's project page describes Relics as a mod about useful items with unique mechanics, with 28 relics that each have their own abilities, random stats and a leveling system. So "core mechanics" here means how a relic levels up, how its abilities are unlocked and upgraded, and what this pack's configs set.[1]
The project page says the mod's balance is automatically adjusted to the needs of the modpack. That's why the numbers below come from this pack's config files and not from the mod's own defaults.[1]
Leveling and ability points
Every relic levels up by earning experience from its own specific activity. In this pack the Amphibian Boot, Aqua Walker and Blazing Flask all use a max level of leveling.maxLevel, an initial cost of leveling.initialCost and a step of leveling.step. The Bastion Ring has the same max level and initial cost, but its step is leveling.step, so it asks for more per level.[5][6][7][8]
Each ability also has its own max level, required level and required points. The Bastion Ring's trade ability is the stricter example here: it needs relic level ability.abilities.trade.requiredLevel and ability.abilities.trade.requiredPoints points, and its max level is ability.abilities.trade.maxLevel. Its compass ability has a max level of ability.abilities.compass.maxLevel.[7]
How relics earn experience
- Amphibian Boot: its tooltip lists +1 experience for each second of acceleration from the Fins ability, and +1 for every second of acceleration from the Slipping ability.[4]
- Aqua Walker: its tooltip lists +1 experience for every 5 units of getting wet from the Moisture Resistance ability.[4]
- Bastion Ring: its tooltip lists +1, +5 or +10 experience for each Zombified Piglin, Piglin or Piglin Brute killed, plus +1 for each additional trade from the Respect ability.[4]
- Blazing Flask: its tooltip lists +1 experience for every 5 seconds of flight within the Eternal Fire ability.[4]
- Chorus Inhibitor: its tooltip lists +1 experience for every 10 blocks to the teleportation point from the Teleportation Control ability.[4]
The tooltips also list a generic Experience Spreading source: each time any relic in the inventory gains experience, regardless of the method, a percentage of that experience is also gained by the relic that has this source.[4]
Ability stats and upgrades
Each ability stat in the configs has a minimum and maximum initial value, plus an upgrade modifier and an upgrade operation. Here is what the pack sets for the relics it configures.[5][6][7][8]
- Aqua Walker, walking: its tooltip says it allows walking on the surface of water for a certain period, after which the boots start sinking and pull the wearer underwater, and that the wearer must stay away from water blocks to dry them. The time stat starts between ability.abilities.walking.stats.time.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.walking.stats.time.maxInitialValue, with an upgrade modifier of ability.abilities.walking.stats.time.upgradeModifier using ability.abilities.walking.stats.time.upgradeOperation.[4][6]
- Amphibian Boot, swimming duration: its tooltip says swimming speed increases per second of swimming, and the modifier stops increasing once the swimming duration passes a limit. The duration stat starts between ability.abilities.swimming.stats.duration.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.swimming.stats.duration.maxInitialValue, with an upgrade modifier of ability.abilities.swimming.stats.duration.upgradeModifier.[4][5]
- Amphibian Boot, swimming speed: the speed stat starts between ability.abilities.swimming.stats.speed.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.swimming.stats.speed.maxInitialValue, with an upgrade modifier of ability.abilities.swimming.stats.speed.upgradeModifier.[5]
- Amphibian Boot, slipping duration: its tooltip says movement speed in the rain increases per second of movement, and the modifier stops increasing once the duration passes a limit. The duration stat starts between ability.abilities.slipping.stats.duration.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.slipping.stats.duration.maxInitialValue, with an upgrade modifier of ability.abilities.slipping.stats.duration.upgradeModifier.[4][5]
- Amphibian Boot, slipping speed: the speed stat starts between ability.abilities.slipping.stats.speed.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.slipping.stats.speed.maxInitialValue, with an upgrade modifier of ability.abilities.slipping.stats.speed.upgradeModifier.[5]
- Amphibian Boot, gills: its tooltip says the player may not consume an air unit, with a percentage chance. The chance stat starts between ability.abilities.gills.stats.chance.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.gills.stats.chance.maxInitialValue, with an upgrade modifier of ability.abilities.gills.stats.chance.upgradeModifier.[4][5]
- Bastion Ring, trade: each trade with piglins has a 50% chance to yield an additional trade result, but the number of times that can trigger is capped. The rolls stat starts between ability.abilities.trade.stats.rolls.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.trade.stats.rolls.maxInitialValue, and each upgrade adds ability.abilities.trade.stats.rolls.upgradeModifier using ability.abilities.trade.stats.rolls.upgradeOperation.[4][7]
- Bastion Ring, compass: its tooltip says it makes piglins neutral in relation to the wearer, and the nearest piglin will indicate the location of a bastion nearby.[4]
- Blazing Flask, bonfire: its tooltip says using the ability on a block creates a restricted flight zone with a maximum flight speed and a height. The area size depends on the amount of fire around the center, and if there is no fire at all, the zone will not be created. The height stat starts between ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.height.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.height.maxInitialValue, and each upgrade adds ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.height.upgradeModifier using ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.height.upgradeOperation.[4][8]
- Blazing Flask, bonfire speed: the speed stat starts between ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.speed.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.speed.maxInitialValue, with an upgrade modifier of ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.speed.upgradeModifier.[8]
- Blazing Flask, bonfire step: the step stat starts between ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.step.minInitialValue and ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.step.maxInitialValue, with an upgrade modifier of ability.abilities.bonfire.stats.step.upgradeModifier.[8]
Fuel and buffers
The nearest thing Relics has to item handling is the Elytra Booster. Its tooltip says that using any combustible fuel that would work in a furnace on the relic in the inventory replenishes its internal buffer, which has a maximum capacity. Activating the ability while flying with an elytra gradually increases flight speed up to a limit, consuming fuel from that buffer. The tooltip also lists +1 experience for every 10 seconds of burning fuel when placing it in the buffer.[4]
The Infinity Ham works in a similar way. Its tooltip says that at a regular interval it regenerates up to 6 edible chunks, and when the relic is consumed, it automatically uses the required number of chunks to replenish the player's hunger.[4]
Where relics drop
The pack's configs give relics loot entries for specific chest loot tables, all set to 0.025, for example loot.entries.minecraft:chests/buried_treasure. The Amphibian Boot and Aqua Walker have entries for water, ocean, river, ship and aqua chests, plus buried treasure. The Bastion Ring has an entry for bastion and piglin chests. The Blazing Flask has entries for those same chests, plus nether, fortress, lava, magma and fire chests.[5][6][7][8]
How do you progress through Relics?
1 part
In this pack, Relics progression is handled by one quest chapter, "the_wild_hunt". Each quest in it has a single task: obtain one specific relic item. The quests are untitled, so the chapter doesn't spell out an order or any tiers.[3]
Quest checklist
Here is every quest in the chapter and the relic it asks for. Treat it as a collection checklist rather than a ranked path.[3]
- "Reflecting Necklace" quest asks for the Reflecting Necklace.[3]
- "Chorus Inhibitor" quest asks for the Chorus Inhibitor.[3]
- "Shadow Glaive" quest asks for the Shadow Glaive.[3]
- "Bastion Ring" quest asks for the Bastion Ring.[3]

- "Ender Hand" quest asks for the Ender Hand.[3]
- "Spore Sack" quest asks for the Spore Sack.[3]
- "Roller Skates" quest asks for the Roller Skates.[3]
Unverified Nothing I have confirms a tier breakdown for these relics, how each one is obtained, or an in-pack crafting recipe for any of them. That is why this section shows no recipes and no tier ranking. Check each relic in-game before you plan around it.

- "Drowned Belt" quest asks for the Drowned Belt.[3]
- "Holy Locket" quest asks for the Holy Locket.[3]
- "Springy Boot" quest asks for the Springy Boot.[3]
- "Space Dissector" quest asks for the Space Dissector.[3]
- "Rage Glove" quest asks for the Rage Glove.[3]
- "Leather Belt" quest asks for the Leather Belt.[3]
- "Infinite Ham" quest asks for the Infinite Ham.[3]
- "Midnight Robe" quest asks for the Midnight Robe.[3]
- "Hunter Belt" quest asks for the Hunter Belt.[3]
- "Jellyfish Necklace" quest asks for the Jellyfish Necklace.[3]

- "Ender Hand" quest asks for the Ender Hand.[3]
- "Spore Sack" quest asks for the Spore Sack.[3]
- "Roller Skates" quest asks for the Roller Skates.[3]
Unverified The data I have doesn't show quest dependencies, so I can't confirm the order you need to complete these quests in, or what rewards they give. The list above follows the chapter file, not a confirmed progression.
Which Relics config options matter?
4 parts
Relics is configured with one JSON file per relic in config/relics. Each file has a leveling part, an ability part and a loot part. Here are the values this pack uses that you're most likely to care about.[5][6]
Leveling costs
In every relic file shown here, the initial cost is 100 and the max level is 10. The only thing that changes between relics is the step value, which is either 100 or 200.[5][6][7]
- Step 100: Amphibian Boot, Aqua Walker, Blazing Flask, Chorus Inhibitor, Drowned Belt, Elytra Booster, Ender's Hand, Hunter Belt, Infinity Ham and Leather Belt. See leveling.step for one example.[5][6][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]
- Step 200: Bastion Ring, Holy Locket, Ice Breaker, Ice Skates and Jellyfish Necklace. See leveling.step for one example.[7][16][17][18][19]
Ability requirements
Most abilities in these files have a required level of 0 and cost 1 point. These are the exceptions worth knowing before you plan a build.[5][6][7][16]
- Bastion Ring trade needs relic level 5 (ability.abilities.trade.requiredLevel).[7]
- Bastion Ring trade costs 2 points (ability.abilities.trade.requiredPoints).[7]
- Bastion Ring trade has a max level of 10 (ability.abilities.trade.maxLevel).[7]
- Holy Locket blessing needs relic level 10 (ability.abilities.blessing.requiredLevel).[16]
- Holy Locket blessing costs 2 points (ability.abilities.blessing.requiredPoints).[16]
- Holy Locket blessing has a max level of 5 (ability.abilities.blessing.maxLevel).[16]
- Holy Locket repentance needs relic level 5 (ability.abilities.repentance.requiredLevel).[16]
- Relic level 5 is also required for Ice Skates ram (ability.abilities.ram.requiredLevel), Infinity Ham infusion (ability.abilities.infusion.requiredLevel) and Jellyfish Necklace paralysis (ability.abilities.paralysis.requiredLevel).[14][18][19]
- The slots ability costs 2 points on the Leather Belt, Hunter Belt and Drowned Belt (ability.abilities.slots.requiredPoints).[10][13][15]
- On the Leather Belt, the slots charm stat starts between 1 (ability.abilities.slots.stats.charm.minInitialValue) and 3 (ability.abilities.slots.stats.charm.maxInitialValue).[15]
- Three abilities have a max level of 0 in this pack: Bastion Ring compass (ability.abilities.compass.maxLevel), Ender's Hand neutrality (ability.abilities.neutrality.maxLevel) and Jellyfish Necklace unsinkable (ability.abilities.unsinkable.maxLevel).[7][12][19]
Ability stat values
Each ability stat has an initial value range and an upgrade modifier. These are a few you'll probably look at first.[9][11][12]
- Chorus Inhibitor blink distance: initial values from 16 to 32, with an upgrade modifier of 0.2 (MULTIPLY_BASE). Cooldown: initial values of 5 and 10, with an upgrade modifier of -0.5 (ADD).[9]
- Ender's Hand swap distance: initial values from 16 to 32, with an upgrade modifier of 0.15 (MULTIPLY_BASE).[12]
- Elytra Booster boost: capacity starts between 50 and 100 and speed between 1.1 and 1.5.[11]
- Drowned Belt riptide cooldown: the two initial values are 10 and 5, with an upgrade modifier of -0.5 (ADD).[10]
Loot chances
Every loot entry in these files is set to 0.025. Here is where each group of relics gets it.[5][6][7]
- Amphibian Boot, Aqua Walker, Drowned Belt and Jellyfish Necklace: buried treasure and water, ocean, river and ship style chests, for example loot.entries.minecraft:chests/buried_treasure.[5][6][10][19]
- Ice Breaker and Ice Skates: igloo and village fletcher chests, plus cold themed chests.[17][18]
- Blazing Flask: bastion, nether style and ruined portal chests. Bastion Ring: bastion and piglin chests.[7][8]
- Chorus Inhibitor, Elytra Booster and Ender's Hand: end and warp style chests.[9][11][12]
- Holy Locket: desert, sand and pyramid chests.[16]
- Hunter Belt, Infinity Ham and Leather Belt: village chests.[13][14][15]
What changed in Relics between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Relics 0.10.7.6. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the modpack.[2]
Relics releases around the pack's version
- 0.10.7.5: technical changes for addons. Nothing here changes how the mod plays on its own.[20]
- 0.10.7.6 (the version in this pack): fixed compatibility with OctoLib 0.6.[2][21]
- 0.10.7.8: fixed another compatibility issue between Roller Skates and Helium Flamingo from RAR-Compat.[22]
Unverified There are no pack changelog entries for Relics, so any changes the pack itself made to this mod between releases are unconfirmed.
