What is Relics?

2 parts

Relics is a mod about collectible, equippable items that each come with their own unique mechanic. The project page says you can use them alone or combine them with other relics and even other mods, so you can build a set around the playstyle you like. It advertises 28 relics.[1]

This pack ships Relics 0.10.7.6, built for Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

What makes relics different

  • Leveling and random stats: according to the project page, each relic ends up different from the next, and you choose what you want from it.[1]
  • Upgrades and customization: the mod advertises improvements for your relics so you can put together strong combinations.[1]
  • Active abilities: the project page describes a progressive active ability system that rewards good micro-control.[1]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book puts Relics in a chapter called "the_wild_hunt". Every quest there is untitled, and each one has an item task for a different relic. Examples are the Reflecting Necklace, Shadow Glaive, Bastion Ring, Roller Skates and Infinite Ham.[3]

The chapter also covers items such as the Space Dissector, Spore Sack and Midnight Robe. You can find the quests by their ids, for example a quest in "?" for the Reflecting Necklace and a quest in "?" for the Shadow Glaive.[3]

Tip: The mod's author says a guidebook is not planned for Relics, so there is no in-game book to lean on. The quest chapter is your best map of which relics exist in this pack.[1][3]

Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses Relics is not shown by the sources here. The quest chapter above is the only place they place the mod, and they do not say what comes before or after it.

How do you get started with Relics?

2 parts

Relics is a mod about useful items with unique mechanics. Each relic can level up, and the mod uses random stats, so copies of the same relic can differ.[1]

Where the quest book points you

The pack's quest book has a chapter called "the_wild_hunt". Every quest in it is untitled and has an item task for one relic, so it works as a checklist of the relics you can collect. The sources do not show what the quests reward.[3]

Things to know once you have one

Each relic earns experience in its own way. The Bastion Ring, for example, earns experience from killing Zombified Piglins, Piglins and Piglin Brutes, and from each additional trade made through its ability.[3][4]

Tip: If the game tells you that working with a relic is not possible in the current inventory, move the item into your main player inventory and try again.[4]

The mod has no guidebook, and its author says one is not planned. For now, your best sources are the item tooltips and the quest chapter.[1]

How does Relics work?

5 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The mod's project page describes Relics as a mod about useful items with unique mechanics, with 28 relics that each have their own abilities, random stats and a leveling system. So "core mechanics" here means how a relic levels up, how its abilities are unlocked and upgraded, and what this pack's configs set.[1]

The project page says the mod's balance is automatically adjusted to the needs of the modpack. That's why the numbers below come from this pack's config files and not from the mod's own defaults.[1]

Leveling and ability points

Every relic levels up by earning experience from its own specific activity. In this pack the Amphibian Boot, Aqua Walker and Blazing Flask all use a max level of leveling.maxLevel, an initial cost of leveling.initialCost and a step of leveling.step. The Bastion Ring has the same max level and initial cost, but its step is leveling.step, so it asks for more per level.[5][6][7][8]

Each ability also has its own max level, required level and required points. The Bastion Ring's trade ability is the stricter example here: it needs relic level ability.abilities.trade.requiredLevel and ability.abilities.trade.requiredPoints points, and its max level is ability.abilities.trade.maxLevel. Its compass ability has a max level of ability.abilities.compass.maxLevel.[7]

Watch out: The mod's own message says working with a relic in certain inventories is not possible, and tells you to move the item to the player's main inventory and try again.[4]

How relics earn experience

  • Amphibian Boot: its tooltip lists +1 experience for each second of acceleration from the Fins ability, and +1 for every second of acceleration from the Slipping ability.[4]
  • Aqua Walker: its tooltip lists +1 experience for every 5 units of getting wet from the Moisture Resistance ability.[4]
  • Bastion Ring: its tooltip lists +1, +5 or +10 experience for each Zombified Piglin, Piglin or Piglin Brute killed, plus +1 for each additional trade from the Respect ability.[4]
  • Blazing Flask: its tooltip lists +1 experience for every 5 seconds of flight within the Eternal Fire ability.[4]
  • Chorus Inhibitor: its tooltip lists +1 experience for every 10 blocks to the teleportation point from the Teleportation Control ability.[4]

The tooltips also list a generic Experience Spreading source: each time any relic in the inventory gains experience, regardless of the method, a percentage of that experience is also gained by the relic that has this source.[4]

Ability stats and upgrades

Each ability stat in the configs has a minimum and maximum initial value, plus an upgrade modifier and an upgrade operation. Here is what the pack sets for the relics it configures.[5][6][7][8]

Fuel and buffers

The nearest thing Relics has to item handling is the Elytra Booster. Its tooltip says that using any combustible fuel that would work in a furnace on the relic in the inventory replenishes its internal buffer, which has a maximum capacity. Activating the ability while flying with an elytra gradually increases flight speed up to a limit, consuming fuel from that buffer. The tooltip also lists +1 experience for every 10 seconds of burning fuel when placing it in the buffer.[4]

The Infinity Ham works in a similar way. Its tooltip says that at a regular interval it regenerates up to 6 edible chunks, and when the relic is consumed, it automatically uses the required number of chunks to replenish the player's hunger.[4]

Where relics drop

The pack's configs give relics loot entries for specific chest loot tables, all set to 0.025, for example loot.entries.minecraft:chests/buried_treasure. The Amphibian Boot and Aqua Walker have entries for water, ocean, river, ship and aqua chests, plus buried treasure. The Bastion Ring has an entry for bastion and piglin chests. The Blazing Flask has entries for those same chests, plus nether, fortress, lava, magma and fire chests.[5][6][7][8]

How do you progress through Relics?

1 part

Relics doesn't have a tier ladder in this pack that I can confirm. What the pack does give you is a quest chapter called the_wild_hunt, and every quest in it has a single task tied to one relic item.[3]

The quests have no titles, so you'll see them by their IDs. The sources don't show any ordering or dependencies between them, so treat the list below as a checklist rather than a fixed path.[3]

Wild Hunt quest checklist

Unverified The sources don't say how to obtain any of these relics, which relics are stronger than others, or whether the pack groups them into tiers. No in-pack recipes for Relics items were found, so check the quest book in-game for hints.

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Relics?

1 part

In this pack, Relics shows up in one quest chapter, called "the_wild_hunt". The chapter is all about collecting relics: each quest has a single item task for one Relics item, and the quests have no titles of their own.[3]

What the chapter asks for

Here is every quest in the chapter and the relic it has a task for. They're listed in the order the pack file gives them.[3]

Unverified The quest data I have doesn't show dependencies between these quests, their rewards, or how the chapter is laid out on the quest screen. I can't confirm which relic you're meant to tackle first or whether the quests unlock in a set order, so check the in-game chapter map for that.

Which Relics config options matter?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Relics is configured with one JSON file per relic in config/relics. Each file has a leveling part, an ability part and a loot part. Here are the values this pack uses that you're most likely to care about.[5][6]

Leveling costs

In every relic file shown here, the initial cost is 100 and the max level is 10. The only thing that changes between relics is the step value, which is either 100 or 200.[5][6][7]

Ability requirements

Most abilities in these files have a required level of 0 and cost 1 point. These are the exceptions worth knowing before you plan a build.[5][6][7][16]

Ability stat values

Each ability stat has an initial value range and an upgrade modifier. These are a few you'll probably look at first.[9][11][12]

  • Chorus Inhibitor blink distance: initial values from 16 to 32, with an upgrade modifier of 0.2 (MULTIPLY_BASE). Cooldown: initial values of 5 and 10, with an upgrade modifier of -0.5 (ADD).[9]
  • Ender's Hand swap distance: initial values from 16 to 32, with an upgrade modifier of 0.15 (MULTIPLY_BASE).[12]
  • Elytra Booster boost: capacity starts between 50 and 100 and speed between 1.1 and 1.5.[11]
  • Drowned Belt riptide cooldown: the two initial values are 10 and 5, with an upgrade modifier of -0.5 (ADD).[10]

Loot chances

Every loot entry in these files is set to 0.025. Here is where each group of relics gets it.[5][6][7]

  • Amphibian Boot, Aqua Walker, Drowned Belt and Jellyfish Necklace: buried treasure and water, ocean, river and ship style chests, for example loot.entries.minecraft:chests/buried_treasure.[5][6][10][19]
  • Ice Breaker and Ice Skates: igloo and village fletcher chests, plus cold themed chests.[17][18]
  • Blazing Flask: bastion, nether style and ruined portal chests. Bastion Ring: bastion and piglin chests.[7][8]
  • Chorus Inhibitor, Elytra Booster and Ender's Hand: end and warp style chests.[9][11][12]
  • Holy Locket: desert, sand and pyramid chests.[16]
  • Hunter Belt, Infinity Ham and Leather Belt: village chests.[13][14][15]

What changed in Relics between versions?

FTB Skies 2 1.12.0 ships with Relics version 0.10.7.6, using the file relics-1.21.1-0.10.7.6.jar. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]

The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so the notes below come only from the mod's own changelogs for two releases.[20][21]

  • 0.10.7.6: fixed compatibility with OctoLib 0.6. This is the version in the pack.[2][20]
  • 0.10.7.5: technical changes for addons.[21]

Neither changelog entry describes a gameplay change.[20][21]
