What is Productive Farming?

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Productive Farming is part of the pack, which ships version 26.1.2-0.12.0 of the mod. It was first included in this pack in 0.8.0-beta or earlier.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm what Productive Farming adds, who it suits best, or how it fits into the pack's progression. The sources I have only confirm that the mod is installed and which version it is. I'm not guessing at its features, items or recipes.

Unverified I found no quests for this mod and no sign that it sits on the ATM Star path, so I can't give you a progression route for it. Check in-game, for example in the recipe viewer, to see what the mod adds in this pack. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Productive Farming?

4 parts

Productive Farming adds a big range of crops, many of them with their own crate, plus machines to run a farm. The recipe sources for this pack show these crafted machines: the Farm Controller, the Watering Trough and the Feeding Trough. Start with those.[2][3]

Farm Controller

The Farm Controller is the first item to make. The pack's server config sets size limits for the farm multiblock, so it pays to know them before you build.[2][4]

The Farm Controller uses the mod's own crafting recipe.

These limits are the mod's defaults, so the pack has not changed them. Plan your farm to fit inside them.[4]

Troughs

Next, make the Watering Trough and the Feeding Trough. Both are crafting recipes from the mod itself.[2]

Each trough has its own tick rate in the server config: General.wateringTroughTickRate and General.feedingTroughTickRate are both 1,200 here, the same as the mod defaults.[4]

Seeds and flowers

The pack sets General.villagersTradeSeeds to false. That option controls whether seeds can be obtained from farmer villager trades, so don't count on villagers as a seed source here.[5]

Bonemeal on grass will not spawn Productive Farming flowers either, because General.spawnFlowersWithBonemeal is false.[4]

Luffa

Luffa is a handy crop to look at because the pack ties it into other mods. You can pack it into a Luffa Crate and unpack the crate again into 9 Luffa.[2]

Dried Luffa comes from a smoking recipe.[2]

The pack also adds machine recipes that produce Luffa: one for the hydroponic growth process in FTB Industrial Contraptions and one for the garden simulating process in LTX Industries.[2]

        How does Productive Farming work?

        6 parts

Productive Farming is a much smaller mod in this pack than in a normal install. The pack's recipe script strips out nearly everything and keeps only a list of flowers, a few functional blocks and items, and the luffa crop. So this section covers the systems you can actually use here, and it sticks to what the pack's config and scripts show.[6]

        What the pack keeps

The pack's script keeps the farm controller, farm hatch, feeding trough, watering trough, nutrient water (and its bucket) and pollen. It also keeps a list of flowers and one crop family: luffa, dried luffa and the luffa crate. Every other Productive Farming item has its recipes removed and is hidden from recipe viewers.[6]

The script also edits village farms. Every village farm crop tag is replaced with wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroots and air, and the yellow dent corn farmer trade is removed. Separately, General.villagersTradeSeeds is false in the startup config, so farmer villagers do not trade seeds.[5][6]

        The farm multiblock

The server config caps how big the farm multiblock can get, and the pack leaves these limits at the mod defaults: a max circumference of General.farmMaxCircumference (200), a max height of General.farmMaxHeight (20) and a max internal volume of General.farmMaxVolume (1,024). The pack keeps the Farm Controller craftable.[2][4][6]

        any stone brickComparatorany stone brick

        Recipe id: productivefarming:farm_controller

The controller is crafted in a normal crafting grid.

Speed upgrades in the farm give a tick speed bonus, set by General.speedUpgradeModifier. The pack keeps this at the mod default of 0.12.[4]

        Troughs and tick rates

The Feeding Trough has the in-game tooltip "Makes nearby animals breed". Its tick rate is set by General.feedingTroughTickRate, which is 1,200 in the pack (the mod default).[3][4]

any copper ingotany copper ingotany copper ingot

        Recipe id: productivefarming:feeding_trough

The Watering Trough has its own tick rate, General.wateringTroughTickRate, also 1,200 here. Both values are unchanged from the mod defaults.[4]

        Recipe id: productivefarming:watering_trough

The config has a few more timers. The child separator tick rate (General.childSeparatorTickRate) is 600, and the fishing trap tick rate (General.fishTrapTickRate) is 6,000. Clams spread in a fish farm with a chance set by General.clamSpreadChance, which is 0.1. All of these match the mod defaults.[4]

        Flowers, pollen and hives

        Crop stats

Productive Farming crops carry these stats: growth, yield, resistance and mutability. The mod's crop loot tables copy these stats onto the dropped item (agave, akebia and amaranth show this, though those crops are hidden in this pack).[6][7][8][9]

A data map sets the chance of a stat increase. Crops in the stat_crops tag get 0.07, and the mystical tier tags step down from 0.06 for tier 1 to 0.01 for tier 6.[10]

General.statsOnExternalCrops is true in the pack. That adds crop stats to vanilla and other mods' crops, as long as they are tagged productivefarming:external_stat_crops.[4]

        Luffa and machine automation

Luffa is the crop the pack keeps, and the pack adds recipes for it in other mods' machines: a hydroponic growth recipe in FTB Industrial Contraptions and a garden simulating recipe in LTX Industries. Both output Luffa.[2]

For storage there is the Luffa Crate, and a shapeless recipe unpacks one crate into 9 luffa. Dried Luffa comes from the mod's own smoking recipe.[2]

Tip: Looking for a specific crop in the recipe viewer and not finding it? That is the pack, not a bug. Most Productive Farming content is deliberately hidden in this pack, and luffa is the crop it keeps.[6]

How do you progress through Productive Farming?

              4 parts

The sources for this pack don't lay out a tier ladder for Productive Farming, so I won't invent one. What they do confirm is a small set of in-pack recipes, centred on the Luffa crop.[2]

              Getting Luffa

The pack adds machine routes to Luffa that the mod does not have on its own. One is a hydroponic growth recipe from FTB Industrial Contraptions, and the other is a garden simulating recipe from LTX Industries.[2]

                  Crates and processing

You can craft a Luffa Crate and unpack it again. Unpacking a crate gives you 9 Luffa back.[2]

Dried Luffa comes from a smoking recipe, which is a mod recipe the pack leaves as it is.[2]

                    Farm equipment

The Farm Controller, the Feeding Trough and the Watering Trough all have ordinary crafting recipes that come from the mod itself.[2]

                    Crop stats on drops

The loot tables for crops such as agave and akebia show that a harvested plant keeps its growth, yield, resistance and mutability components from the block it was grown in. The extra harvest drop is only given when the plant is at age 6, and Fortune can add more on top.[7][8]

Which Productive Farming config options matter?

                    4 parts

Productive Farming has a server config file and a startup config file that matter here. Every numeric value in the server file is left at the mod default in this pack, so the mod's own defaults are what you get. The on/off settings are covered at the end.[4][5]

                    Farm multiblock size

These options cap how big a farm multiblock can get. The pack sets General.farmMaxCircumference to 200, General.farmMaxHeight to 20 and General.farmMaxVolume to 1,024 (the maximum internal volume). All of them match the mod default.[4]

General.speedUpgradeModifier is the tick speed bonus you get from speed upgrades in the farm. The pack sets it to 0.12, the mod default, and it accepts values from 0.0 to 1.0.[4]

                    Machine tick rates

                    Bees, flowers and clams

                    Toggles

Tip: The villagersTradeSeeds option controls whether seeds can be obtained from farmer villager trades. It is false in this pack, so don't count on villagers as a seed source.[5]
