What is More Red?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

More Red is included in this pack at version 6.0.0.3, built for Minecraft 1.21.1 (the jar is morered-1.21.1-6.0.0.3.jar). It has been part of the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it's a long-standing member of the mod list.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what More Red adds, who it suits, or its recipes, configs and mechanics in this pack. I'm not guessing at those. The pack's mod list is the only confirmed information so far.

Unverified I found no quests in this pack that involve More Red, and the mod doesn't appear on the ATM Star path. No platform page or in-jar guidebook was available to confirm either point or to say where the mod fits in progression.

How do you get started with More Red?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

More Red is a wiring mod, and its own advancement tree makes a handy roadmap for your first steps. The tree opens with the line "There's a lot of redstone in your pockets". The order below follows those advancements.[2]

Start with Red Alloy Wire

Everything begins here. The first crafting advancement is about turning copper and redstone into Red Alloy Ingots and then crafting those into Red Alloy Wires. You need those wires for the colored cables in the next step.[2]

Colored cables and the Bundled Cable

Next you make colored cables from wool and Red Alloy Wires. The pack has a recipe for each cable color, for example the Blue Cable. Then you combine colored cables into a Bundled Cable, which is the next advancement in the chain.[2][3]

Tubes

The mod also has an advancement for crafting a Tube from copper and glass. In this pack, the tubes in the recipe list come in a copper version and a gold version. Here are both versions of the Black Tube.[2][3]

How does More Red work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide

More Red is a redstone mod built around cables, tubes, logic gates, a soldering station and wooden mechanical parts. The sources for this pack only confirm part of how these systems fit together, so this section sticks to what they show.[2]

Cables and tubes

Signal wiring starts with Red Alloy Ingots, which the mod's advancements describe as made from copper and redstone. Those ingots become Red Alloy Wires, and wires plus wool make a Colored Cable. Colored Cables can then be crafted into a Bundled Cable. Tubes are a separate block, crafted from copper and glass.[2]

There is a Colored Cable and a Colored Tube for each dye colour. Around them sit support blocks such as the Bundled Cable, the Cable Junction and the Cable Relay.[2]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any iron ingot

The Cable Relay is a shapeless crafting recipe.

Cables behave a little differently from other blocks when broken. Their loot tables run a function called set_wire_count on the dropped item, for example on the Black Cable, Blue Cable, Brown Cable and Bundled Cable. Tubes just drop themselves, with no extra function.[5][6][7][8][9]

Soldering and logic gates

The mod adds a Soldering Table and its own recipe type, morered:soldering. In this pack there are 27 soldering recipes, each making a different result, and they appear under a "Soldering" category. The Soldering Table has its own advancement in the mod.[2][4]

Gates in the sources include the AND Gate, the Bitwise AND Gate, the Bitwise OR Gate, the Bitwise NOT Gate, the Bitwise Diode and the Bitwise Multiplexer. Each of these has a soldering recipe. The AND Gate and the Alternator can also be made with ordinary shaped crafting.[4]

The mod's advancements group the Alternator, Extractor and Stonemill together as mechanisms.[2]

    Stone plates

The Stone Plate can be cut in a stonecutter. Smooth stone slabs give 4 plates and full smooth stone gives 8.[4]

    Stonecutting

      Recipe id: morered:stone_plate_from_smooth_stone_stonecutting

      Axles, gears and clutches

The mechanical parts come in a wood variant for each wood type, including pale oak. Each type has an Axle, a Gear, a Gearshifter, a Clutch and a Windcatcher. The Acacia and Birch Axle recipes both make 16 axles per craft, and the clutches are shapeless recipes.[2][4]

      Windcatchers and wind

The mod's advancement describes a Windcatcher as crafted from an Axle, Sticks and Wool. It uses its own recipe type, morered:windcatcher, and the pack has 11 such recipes, one per windcatcher result.[2][4]

      Windcatcher (morered)

      any woolAcacia Axleany wool
any wooden rodany woolany wooden rod

      Recipe id: morered:acacia_windcatcher

Windcatchers use the dedicated windcatcher recipe type.

A windcatcher keeps its colours when you break it. Its loot table copies the morered:windcatcher_colors component from the block onto the dropped item.[10]

The mod also ships a wind data map for dimension types. For the overworld wind tag it gives a range from y 63 to y 150, and for the end wind tag it gives a value of 2.[11]

Every mechanical and logic block I checked drops itself, and the loot tables include the survives-explosion condition.[12][13][14][15][16][17]

How do you progress through More Red?

      4 parts

The sources here don't lay out a tier ladder for More Red, so this section sticks to what the in-pack recipes show: which items come from which kind of crafting.[18]

      How the recipes are split

The pack's More Red recipes use shaped crafting, shapeless crafting, stonecutting, a soldering recipe type and a windcatcher recipe type. The recipe type tells you how each item is made.[18]

      Gates and logic parts

Several logic parts can be made two ways: by normal shaped crafting and through the soldering recipe type. AND Gate, Diode, Latch, Alternator, Cable Junction and Cable Relay all appear with a soldering recipe next to their regular one.[18]

Other parts also have a soldering recipe: NOT Gate, OR Gate, NAND Gate, NOR Gate, XOR Gate, XNOR Gate, Pulse Gate, Multiplexer and Hexidecrubrometer. The bitwise versions, such as Bitwise AND Gate and Bitwise Diode, follow the same pattern.[18]

        Gears, axles and windcatchers

Tip: A windcatcher keeps its colour settings when you break it, so you can pick it up and move it without redoing them.[19]

Which More Red config options matter?

        3 parts

Good news: every More Red option in this pack's server config sits at the mod default, so nothing here has been changed by the pack. Everything lives in hard_tube_cap's file, config/morered-server.toml, and these are the options you are most likely to care about when you start building tube networks with More Red.[20]

        Tube network size

        • soft_tube_cap is 400 (the mod default, allowed range 1 to 10,000). Once a contiguous tube network is bigger than this, items move more slowly, which is the mod's way of telling you that you have too many tubes.[20]
        • hard_tube_cap is 500 (the mod default, allowed range 1 to 10,000). If you try to build a network larger than this, not all of the tubes in it will join that network.[20]

        Tube speed and capacity

        • ticks_in_tube is 10 (the mod default, allowed range 1 to 72,000). This is the base time in ticks that a moving item stack spends in each tube block, and other factors adjust it.[20]
        • max_items_in_tube is 2,147,483,647 (the mod default). If a tube holds more item stacks than this value, the tube block breaks and drops its items on the ground. At this value you are very unlikely to hit it.[20]
        • osmosis_filter_transfer_rate is 8 (the mod default). It is the osmosis filter's automatic transfer rate in ticks per item, and the config notes that 8 matches a vanilla hopper.[20]

        Connection ranges

        • max_remote_tube_connection_range is 32 (the mod default). This is the maximum range at which tubes can be remotely connected to each other, and it also affects how many nearby chunks are checked for long tube intersections when you place a block.[20]
        • max_wire_plinth_connection_range is 32 blocks (the mod default). This is how far wire posts can remotely connect to each other.[20]
Tip: If your item networks feel sluggish, check how many tubes are in one contiguous network. Going past 400 slows items down, and past 500 the extra tubes will not join the network. Splitting a big build into smaller networks avoids both.[20]
