What is Max Health Fix?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Max Health Fix is a small bug-fix mod. It does one thing: it stops Minecraft from throwing away your extra health when you log back in.[1]

What it fixes

Vanilla Minecraft has an old bug where the Max Health attribute is ignored when a player joins the game. If your max health is above the default limit of 20, you get reset back down to 20 on join. For example, say you wear a helmet that gives +10 max health and you leave the game with 25 health. Without the fix, you rejoin with 20.[1]

With the mod installed, your health stays where you left it.[1]

Who it is for

It matters to anyone who gets bonus max health from gear or other attribute modifiers. It also matters to server owners. Installed on a server, it fixes the bug for every player, even those without the mod on their client. Installed on the client, it fixes your singleplayer worlds.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Max Health Fix 5.0.4, the Forge build for Minecraft 1.18.2.[2]

There is nothing to craft, place or configure, so you won't need to do anything with it. It works in the background.[1]

Unverified Where this mod fits in the pack's progression is unconfirmed. The sources provided show no quests, no ATM Star path involvement and no in-jar guidebook for it.

How do you get started with Max Health Fix?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Good news: there is nothing to craft here. Max Health Fix is a bug-fix mod that works in the background, so you don't need to make any items to get started.[1]

It fixes an old Minecraft bug where the max health attribute is ignored when a player joins. Without the fix, anyone with more than the default 20 health gets reset to 20 on login. For example, if you wear a helmet that gives +10 max health and log out at 25 health, you would come back with 20.[1]

Where it works

  • On the client, the fix applies to your singleplayer worlds.[1]
  • On a server, the fix applies to all players, even those who don't have the mod on their client.[1]

In practice, if you play on a server, the server is the important place for the mod. Items or effects that raise your max health will then keep your current health when you rejoin.[1]

Checking that it works

If you want to confirm the fix is active, the mod page describes a quick test. You need a cheats-enabled world in survival mode, and a helmet that gives +10 max health. Equip it and your max health should go from 20 to 30, which is 15 hearts. Heal above 20, save and exit, then rejoin. With the mod installed, your health stays above 20.[1]

Tip: The test helmet in that guide is spawned with the /give command, so it only works in a world with cheats enabled.[1]

Unverified The sources don't say whether this pack changes anything about the mod, and they list no config options, quests or recipes for it. Nothing beyond the behavior above is confirmed for this pack.

How does Max Health Fix work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Good news: there's very little to learn here. Max Health Fix doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation. The project page describes it as a single bug fix, so there are no systems to set up or pipe together.[1]

What the mod fixes

Minecraft has an old bug where the Max Health attribute is ignored when a player joins the game. Anyone whose health is above the default limit of 20 gets reset down to 20 on joining.[1]

Here's the example from the project page. You wear a helmet that gives +10 max health and log out with 25 health. Without the fix, you come back with 20 health. With the mod installed, your health is kept.[1]

Where it needs to be installed

  • On the client, the bug is fixed for your singleplayer worlds.[1]
  • On the server, the bug is fixed for all players on that server, even those who don't have the mod on their client.[1]

How to see it working

The project page gives a test you can follow. Use these steps in a new world with cheats enabled and creative mode turned off.[1]

  1. Use the /give command to give yourself a diamond helmet with a max health attribute modifier. The project page lists the exact command.[1]
  2. Equip the helmet. Your max health should go from 20 to 30 (15 hearts).[1]
  3. Heal yourself so your health is over 20.[1]
  4. Save the game and exit, then rejoin.[1]
  5. Without the mod, your health is reset to 20. With the mod installed, it isn't.[1]
Tip: You don't need to do anything in-game to benefit from this mod. It works in the background whenever you join a world, so health-boosting gear keeps your current health between sessions.[1]

Unverified This pack has no config files for the mod, and there are no recipes, items or quests that we could confirm for it. Whether the pack changes any behavior of the mod is unverified.

Which Max Health Fix config options matter?

Max Health Fix has one config option, and it is just an on/off switch. That makes this a short section, but it is worth knowing what the switch does.[3]

The option is mod_enabled.value in config/maxhealthfix.json. The file describes it as determining if the mod and its features are enabled.[3]

This pack leaves it at the default: the default is true and the pack's value is true too. The pack did not change anything here, so the fix is active.[3]

What the fix does when it is on: Minecraft has an old bug where the max health attribute is ignored when a player joins. A player with more than 20 health gets reset to 20 on rejoin. For example, if you wear a helmet giving +10 max health and log out at 25 health, you would come back at 20. With the mod enabled, that reset does not happen.[1]

Tip: If you run a server, the mod on the server fixes the bug for all players, even those without the mod on their client. On the client, it fixes your singleplayer worlds.[1]
Watch out: Setting mod_enabled to false would turn the mod's features off, so the join-time health reset would come back. Leave it at true unless you have a specific reason.[1][3]

What changed in Max Health Fix between versions?

1 part

Max Health Fix is a small mod, and the sources here only cover one release of it, so this section is short.[4][5]

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Max Health Fix 26.1.2.3, the NeoForge build for MC 26.1.2. The pack's mod list says the mod was first included in FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, so it has been in the pack for a while.[5]

Max Health Fix 26.1.2.3

  • Fixed dependency metadata and changelog generation.[4]
  • Fixed missing dependency info.[4]

Both fixes are about how the mod describes itself, not about gameplay, so you will not notice anything different in your world from this update.[4]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as maxhealthfix, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
