What is Macaw's Roofs?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Macaw's Roofs is a building mod that lets you put actual roof blocks on your builds instead of faking a roof with stairs. If you like detailed bases, this is a great one to have in your toolbox.[1]
It adds several kinds of roof pieces: Roofs, Steep Roofs, Lower Roofs, Top Roofs and Awnings, plus Rain Gutters and more.[1]
- Striped Awnings come in every color, and so do Rain Gutters.[1]
- Rain Gutters fill up when it is raining, which is a nice touch for a lived-in build.[1]
In this pack
This pack includes version 2.2.2 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.18.2 on Forge. It has been part of the pack since version 1.1 or earlier.[2]
Unverified The sources here do not show a quest book chapter, group or position for this mod, or whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the pack's quest book itself for that.
How do you get started with Macaw's Roofs?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide
Macaw's Roofs lets you build roofs with actual roof blocks instead of stacking stairs. The mod includes roofs, steep roofs, lower roofs, awnings, top roofs and rain gutters, so you can start with one wood type and expand from there.[1]
Each wood type has its own set of roof blocks, and the pack's recipes cover Acacia, Bamboo, Birch, Cherry and Crimson, among others. Most woods come in two families, named after the wood and after its planks, for example Acacia Roof and Acacia Planks Roof. I'll use Acacia for the examples, and the same naming pattern shows up for the other woods.[3]
What to make first
- Start with Acacia Roof. It's the plain roof of the set, so it's a good piece to test on a small build.[3]
- Make the matching Acacia Top Roof, which is the top roof piece of the same wood.[3]
- Try the other shapes: Acacia Steep Base Roof (Steep Base Roof) and Acacia Lower Base Roof (Lower Base Roof). Each has a matching top version, Acacia Steep Top Roof (Steep Top Roof) and Acacia Lower Top Roof (Lower Top Roof).[3]
- For a decorative touch, add a striped awning such as Blue Striped Awning. Striped awnings come in each color.[1][3]

How does Macaw's Roofs work?
4 parts
Good news and a heads-up: Macaw's Roofs is a building mod, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid hookups to wire together. What the sources do explain is how the roof pieces get made and how they behave when you break them, so that's what this section covers.[1]
What the mod adds
The mod describes itself as a way to build roofs with actual roof blocks instead of stairs. It includes roofs, steep roofs, lower roofs, top roofs, awnings and rain gutters. Striped awnings come in each color, and so do rain gutters.[1]
The one active behavior the project page mentions is that rain gutters fill up when it is raining.[1]
Roof piece names
Every material gets the same family of shapes. Take Acacia: you get Acacia Roof, Acacia Steep Base Roof (shown in game as Steep Base Roof), Acacia Lower Base Roof (Lower Base Roof), Acacia Top Roof, Acacia Lower Top Roof (Lower Top Roof), Acacia Steep Top Roof (Steep Top Roof) and Acacia Attic Roof. A separate set made from planks has the same shapes, for example Acacia Planks Roof.[5]
There is also a Base set: Base Roof, Base Roof Block and Base Roof Slab, plus the same steep, lower, top and attic shapes.[5]
Getting the pieces
The pack has 233 shaped crafting recipes and 388 stonecutting recipes that make Macaw's Roofs items, each with a different result.[6]
In the shaped recipes the output count depends on the shape. For the acacia and acacia planks sets, one craft gives the following amounts:[6]
- 2 of the Roof, Top Roof and Attic Roof pieces.[6]
- 4 of the Steep Base Roof and Lower Base Roof pieces.[6]
- 3 of the Lower Top Roof and Steep Top Roof pieces.[6]

The Andesite and Base sets are stonecutting recipes, one for each shape. They make a single piece per cut, except the Base Roof Slab, which gives 2.[6]

Breaking blocks
The roof block loot tables I could check, such as Acacia Attic Roof, Acacia Lower Base Roof, Base Attic Roof and Base Roof Block, all work the same way. One roll, and the block drops itself, with no extra conditions. So you get the piece back when you break it and can move or rebuild it freely.[7][8][9][10]
How do you progress through Macaw's Roofs?
2 parts
Macaw's Roofs has no tech gates in this pack. The sources here show only how each roof block is made, so progression comes down to choosing a material and a roof shape. I can't point you to a quest chapter for it.[6]
Two ways to make roofs
Roof recipes in this pack are plain mod recipes, and the dump marks them as such rather than as pack changes. The dump counts 233 shaped crafting recipes and 388 stonecutting recipes, each making a different roof item. Wood-type roofs use the crafting table, and stone-type roofs use the stonecutter.[6]
- Crafting table: the Acacia, Bamboo, Birch and Bamboo Mosaic sets, plus the matching Planks sets, are shaped crafting recipes.[6]
- Stonecutter: the Andesite, Base, Black, Black Concrete, Black Terracotta, Blackstone and Blue Concrete sets are stonecutting recipes.[6]
Roof shapes and how many you get
Each material comes in the same set of shapes. For the crafted wood sets, the amount per craft depends on the shape, as the Acacia set shows. The Bamboo, Birch and Bamboo Mosaic sets follow the same amounts.[6]
- Acacia Roof, Acacia Attic Roof and Acacia Top Roof each give 2 per craft.[6]
- Acacia Lower Base Roof (Lower Base) and Acacia Steep Base Roof (Steep Base) each give 4 per craft.[6]
- Acacia Lower Top Roof (Lower Top) and Acacia Steep Top Roof (Steep Top) each give 3 per craft.[6]

Recipe id: mcwroofs:acacia_roof
The in-pack recipe for the basic wood roof, which makes 2.
Stone-type roofs are cut one shape at a time. For example, the Andesite and Base sets give 1 of each roof shape per cut. The exception is Base Roof Slab, which gives 2 per cut. The Black set also has a Roof Block and a Roof Slab, and the slab gives 2.[6]
A stonecutting recipe, so you just cut it at the stonecutter.
