What is Macaw's Roofs?
1 part
Macaw's Roofs is a building mod that lets you put actual roof blocks on your builds instead of faking a roof with stairs. If you like detailed bases, this is a great one to have in your toolbox.[1]
It adds several kinds of roof pieces: Roofs, Steep Roofs, Lower Roofs, Top Roofs and Awnings, plus Rain Gutters and more.[1]
- Striped Awnings come in every color, and so do Rain Gutters.[1]
- Rain Gutters fill up when it is raining, which is a nice touch for a lived-in build.[1]
In this pack
This pack includes version 2.2.2 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.18.2 on Forge. It has been part of the pack since version 1.1 or earlier.[2]
Unverified The sources here do not show a quest book chapter, group or position for this mod, or whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the pack's quest book itself for that.
How do you get started with Macaw's Roofs?
5 parts
Macaw's Roofs lets you build roofs out of actual roof blocks instead of stacking stairs. The pack changed the mod's roof recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the standalone mod. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack crafts.[1][3]
Start with the basic roof
Make a plain Oak Roof first. It's the simplest roof block, and the best way to get a feel for the mod. Oak is just my example: the recipe dump shows the same set of roof pieces for spruce, birch and acacia too.[1][3]

Try the Planks version
Each wood also has a Planks variant, like Oak Planks Roof. It has its own pack recipe, separate from the one for the plain roof, so you can pick whichever look suits your build.[3]

Add the shaping pieces
The mod goes well beyond one roof block: it also includes Steep Roofs, Lower Roofs and Top Roofs, plus awnings and rain gutters. Craft a few of the shaping pieces so you have options for your roofline.[1]
- Oak Steep Base Roof is the Steep Base Roof.[3]
- Oak Lower Base Roof is the Lower Base Roof.[3]
- Oak Top Roof is the Top Roof.[3]

The hammer
The mod's language file has a hammer tooltip that reads: right click on the top roof to toggle between states. Keep that in mind once you have top roofs placed.[4]
How does Macaw's Roofs work?
4 parts
Macaw's Roofs is a building mod, so there is no power, fluid or machine setup to learn here. The sources describe roof blocks, and the mechanics that matter are which roof pieces exist, how the hammer works, and how the pack changed the crafting.[1]
The roof pieces
The mod adds real roof blocks so you don't have to fake a roof with stairs. Its page lists Roofs, Steep Roofs, Lower Roofs, Awnings, Top Roofs and Rain Gutters, plus more. Striped Awnings and Rain Gutters both come in every color.[1]
In this pack the wood variants show up as separate pieces. Acacia, for example, has a base roof, a steep base roof, a lower base roof, an attic roof, a top roof, a lower top roof and a steep top roof. Each also comes in a planks version, such as Acacia Planks Roof. Birch follows the same pattern.[3]
- Acacia Roof is the standard base roof piece.[3]
- Acacia Steep Base Roof and Acacia Lower Base Roof are the steep and lower base variants.[3]
- Acacia Top Roof, Acacia Lower Top Roof and Acacia Steep Top Roof are the top pieces.[3]
- Acacia Attic Roof is the attic roof piece.[3]
Toggling top roofs with the hammer
The mod's hammer has a tooltip that says to right click on the top roof to toggle between states. That is the one interactive mechanic the sources spell out.[4]
Rain gutters
Rain Gutters fill up when it is raining.[1]
Crafting in this pack
The pack changed the roof recipes, so don't rely on the mod's default ones. The roof recipes shown in the pack data are all shaped crafting recipes, and the attic roofs use a different ingredient set from the other pieces. Here are two Acacia examples.[3]

How do you progress through Macaw's Roofs?
3 parts
Macaw's Roofs is a decorative building mod, and the recipe data for this pack shows no tier ladder where one roof unlocks the next. What you choose is the wood type and the roof shape.[3]
Roof shapes
Each wood comes in the same set of shapes, such as Oak Roof, Oak Steep Base Roof, Oak Lower Base Roof, Oak Top Roof, Oak Lower Top Roof, Oak Steep Top Roof and Oak Attic Roof. Every one of them has a matching Planks version, for example Oak Planks Roof and Oak Planks Attic Roof. The recipe data I have covers oak, spruce, birch and acacia.[3]
How the pack changes the recipes
The pack adds its own roof recipes, built around TFC wood instead of vanilla wood. The standard roofs use the plain log of each wood, and the Planks versions use the stripped log. The same pattern holds for every wood I can see.[3]
Here are the pack's recipes for a standard roof, a Planks roof and an Attic roof. The Attic roof is the shape with a different crafting pattern.[3]

Quests and guidance
Unverified The sources here show no quests for this mod and no in-jar guidebook, so I can't confirm any quest-based progression for Macaw's Roofs.
How does Macaw's Roofs work with other mods?
2 parts
In this pack, the link between Macaw's Roofs and another mod is crafting. The roof recipes use wood items from the tfc namespace, such as Oak Log, and the pack has changed all of them.[3]
What the roof recipes use
- Standard roof pieces (roofs, steep, lower and top variants) take a log, any wooden rod and any slimeball. Example: Oak Roof uses Oak Log.[3]
- Attic roofs swap the wooden rod for any glass. Example: Oak Attic Roof uses a log, glass and a slimeball.[3]
- The "Planks" roof variants take a stripped log instead of a normal log. Example: Oak Planks Roof uses Stripped Oak Log.[3]
The rod, glass and slimeball slots accept any item in the matching tag, so whichever glass, wooden rod or slimeball you have will work. Each roof piece has its own recipe, so check the one you need.[3]

Which woods are covered
The recipes I can confirm cover oak, spruce, birch and acacia. Each of these woods has its roof shapes in both the log version and the planks (stripped log) version, for example Spruce Roof and Birch Planks Roof.[3]
