What is Inventory Essentials?

Same as in the Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 guide

Inventory Essentials is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 8.2.19, using the file inventoryessentials-forge-1.20.1-8.2.19.jar, so it is built for Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1.[1]

The mod was already in the pack by version 0.0.51.4 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]

Unverified What Inventory Essentials does in this pack is not confirmed by the available sources, so this page does not describe its features.

How do you get started with Inventory Essentials?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide

Inventory Essentials is about moving items around faster, so there is nothing to craft first. The mod's text in this pack is made up of key bindings and settings, with no item names. Your first steps are learning the controls and knowing which helpers exist.[2]

Find the controls

Open your controls screen and look for the Inventory Essentials category. These are the actions the mod adds:[2]

  • Sort Inventory, which goes with a setting that decides how middle-click inventory sorting behaves.[2]
  • Transfer all, Transfer all of type, Transfer single and Transfer one, for moving items between inventories in bulk or one at a time.[2]
  • Transfer on Hover (Hold), which quick-transfers items as you move your mouse over them while holding shift, so you do not click each one.[2]
  • Bulk Drop and Bulk Drop out of Screen, for dropping many items of the same type at once.[2]
  • Dump to Container, Restock Container and Restock Inventory, for emptying your pack into a chest or refilling from one.[2]

Know the click shortcuts

The setting tooltips describe the mouse gestures. Shift-ctrl-clicking moves all items of the same type at once. Space-clicking an item moves everything from that inventory. Control-space-clicking moves one of each item. Ctrl-clicking moves a single item instead of the full stack. Space-clicking armor can also swap you to all matching armor.[2]

Let the automatic helpers work

  • Tool refill replaces a broken tool from your inventory.[2]
  • Stack refill replaces a depleted block stack from your inventory.[2]
  • Bundle auto-fill puts picked up items into matching bundles, and bundle drag lets you hold click or right-click with a bundle to empty or insert hovered slots.[2]

Unverified Which of these options are switched on in this pack, and which keys they are bound to by default, is set in the mod's own settings. The sources here do not show those values, so check the controls screen and the mod's config in game.

How does Inventory Essentials work?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide

Inventory Essentials is about how you move, sort and restock items in your inventory and in containers. The only source available for it here is its language file, so this section covers the controls and options that file describes. Each option has a tooltip, and the mod adds its own category to your key bindings screen.[2]

Bulk moving items

There are several bulk actions, and each one has its own tooltip and its own key binding. The tooltips describe the default click combinations.[2]

  • Transfer all of type: shift-ctrl-clicking moves all items of the same type at once.[2]
  • Transfer all: space-clicking an item moves all items from that inventory at once. A separate option decides whether Transfer All still moves everything when you click an empty slot.[2]
  • Transfer single: control-space-clicking an item moves one of each item from that inventory at once.[2]
  • Bulk Drop: shift-ctrl-drop-clicking drops all items of the same type at once. There is also a separate key binding called Bulk Drop out of Screen.[2]
  • Armor sets: space-clicking armor in your inventory can swap you to all the matching armor, if that option is on.[2]

Single and drag transfers

  • Transfer one: ctrl-clicking can move just one item at a time instead of the full stack.[2]
  • Transfer on Hover (Hold): holding shift and moving your mouse over items quick-transfers them, so you do not need to click each one.[2]

Automatic refills and bundles

  • Stack refill: when a stack of blocks runs out, it can be replaced automatically from your inventory.[2]
  • Tool refill: when a tool breaks, it can be replaced automatically from your inventory.[2]
  • Bundle auto-fill: items you pick up can be placed straight into matching bundles.[2]
  • Bundle drag: holding click or right-click with a bundle can empty or insert the slots you hover over.[2]

Sorting and containers

Middle-clicking sorts your inventory, and an option lets you choose how that sorting behaves. The mod also has key bindings named Sort Inventory, Dump to Container, Restock Container and Restock Inventory. The language file only gives their names, so check your key bindings screen for what they are set to.[2]

Tip: Every feature above has its own on/off option, so if one of these shortcuts gets in your way, you can turn that single behavior off. The sources here do not show which options are on by default in this pack.[2]

One more option, forcing the client implementation even on servers that have the mod installed, is described as only useful for development, so you can ignore it.[2]

Which Inventory Essentials config options matter?

4 parts

All of Inventory Essentials's settings live in one file, and this pack ships it with the values below. Here are the options you'll most likely notice while playing.[3]

Sorting

inventorySorting controls what middle-click inventory sorting does. This pack sets it to CREATIVE. The other allowed values are CONSOLIDATE_ONLY, RETAIN_ORDER and ALPHABETICAL, so if you'd rather have your inventory sorted by name, that's the option to change.[3]

Moving items in bulk

Every bulk and quick-transfer feature is switched on in this pack:[3]

One option is off: allowBulkTransferAllOnEmptySlot is false. That means space-clicking does not move all items if you click an empty slot.[3]

Automatic refills and bundles

Leave this one alone

Tip: forceClientImplementation is false in this pack. The file describes it as only useful for development purposes, so you don't need to touch it.[3]

What changed in Inventory Essentials between versions?

Inventory Essentials has been in the pack since FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, and FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships version 26.1.2.7 of it.[4]

The one change the sources show for that version is a fix to creative tab sorting. Before it, sorting did not work unless you had opened a creative mode screen at least once. With 26.1.2.7 that requirement is gone.[5]

The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there is nothing else to report here.[4]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as inventoryessentials, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
