What is Inventory Essentials?

Inventory Essentials is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 8.2.19, using the file inventoryessentials-forge-1.20.1-8.2.19.jar, so it is built for Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1.[1]

The mod was already in the pack by version 0.0.51.4 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]

Unverified What Inventory Essentials does in this pack is not confirmed by the available sources, so this page does not describe its features.

How do you get started with Inventory Essentials?

3 parts

Inventory Essentials is about moving items around faster, so your first steps are learning the click shortcuts, not crafting anything. This page covers the shortcuts and which ones this pack has switched on.[2][3]

Unverified The sources show no recipes, quests or craftable items for this mod, so there is nothing to make first and no recipe block to show.

Shortcuts that are on in this pack

  1. Start with enableShiftDrag. It is on, so you can hold shift and move your mouse over items to quick-transfer them without clicking each one.[2][3]
  2. Next, try enableSingleTransfer, which is also on. Ctrl-clicking moves one item at a time instead of the full stack.[2][3]
  3. Then enableBulkTransfer, also on. Shift-ctrl-clicking moves all items of the same type at once.[2][3]
  4. Use enableBulkTransferAll (on) to space-click an item and move everything from that inventory at once.[2][3]
  5. With enableBulkTransferSingle (on), control-space-clicking an item moves one of each item from that inventory.[2][3]
  6. Finally, enableBulkDrop is on, so shift-ctrl-drop-clicking drops all items of the same type at once.[2][3]

Armor swapping

bulkTransferArmorSets is on in this pack. Space-clicking armor in your inventory swaps to all matching armor, which is handy for changing full sets quickly.[2][3]

What is switched off

enableMiddleClickSort is set to false in this pack, so middle-clicking a slot does not sort the inventory. allowBulkTransferAllOnEmptySlot is also false, so space-clicking an empty slot will not move all items.[2][3]

Tip: The Controls menu has an Inventory Essentials category with entries such as Transfer all, Transfer all of type, Transfer one, Bulk Drop and Sort Inventory. Check it to see or change your keys.[2]
Watch out: forceClientImplementation is for development only and is false in this pack. Leave it alone.[2][3]

How does Inventory Essentials work?

2 parts

Inventory Essentials works differently from most mods in the pack. The sources show no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation for it. What they do show is a set of click shortcuts for moving and dropping items in inventory screens, and every one of them is a switch in the common config file.[2][3]

Moving and dropping items

Each shortcut below has its own on/off option. The pack's setting for each one is noted, so you know what works when you play.[2][3]

  • Single transfer: ctrl-clicking moves only one item at a time instead of the full stack. This is on in the pack (enableSingleTransfer).[2][3]
  • Bulk transfer of a type: shift-ctrl-clicking moves all items of the same type at once. This is on in the pack (enableBulkTransfer).[2][3]
  • Transfer all: space-clicking an item moves all items from that inventory at once. This is on in the pack (enableBulkTransferAll).[2][3]
  • Transfer one of each: control-space-clicking an item moves one of each item from that inventory at once. This is on in the pack (enableBulkTransferSingle).[2][3]
  • Shift drag: hold shift and move your mouse over items to quick-transfer them without clicking each one. This is on in the pack (enableShiftDrag).[2][3]
  • Bulk drop: shift-ctrl-drop-clicking drops all items of the same type at once. This is on in the pack (enableBulkDrop).[2][3]

Pack settings worth knowing

Tip: The mod registers its own key bindings under an Inventory Essentials category. They include Transfer all, Transfer all of type, Transfer one, Transfer on Hover (Hold), Bulk Drop, Bulk Drop out of Screen and Sort Inventory. Several of them also have a separate (Hold) modifier entry.[2]

Unverified Which keys these bindings use by default is not confirmed by the available sources. The click combinations above come from the option descriptions in the config.

Which Inventory Essentials config options matter?

2 parts

Everything for Inventory Essentials lives in one file, config/inventoryessentials-common.toml. Here is exactly how this pack sets each option, so you know which inventory shortcuts work out of the box.[3]

Tip: If you expect middle-click sorting to work, it won't here, because the pack has it switched off. You can change enableMiddleClickSort to true in the file if you want it.[3]

Unverified The mod's own default values are not given in the available sources, so it is unconfirmed which of these options the pack changed from the mod default.

What changed in Inventory Essentials between versions?

1 part

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 includes Inventory Essentials 8.2.19, using the file inventoryessentials-forge-1.20.1-8.2.19.jar. The mod was first included in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4 or earlier.[1]

Inventory Essentials 8.2.19

  • Fixed non-ResultSlot slots that are backed by ResultContainer not being ignored.[4]

That is the only change in the mod's own changelog for the version in this pack. The sources here have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't tell you how it changed between earlier pack releases.[1][4]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as inventoryessentials, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
